Was perfect stop along the coast on way back to SF after weekend in Bodega Bay. Got a table indoors near the windows so could see the water and rustic boardwalk. Whole ambience is rustic and reminds me of New England. Got the cioppino which had a real spicy kick to it. Good amount of mussels, scallop and fish. Also got the bbq oysters which I was hesitant about given the bbq sauce but actually wasn't overbearing and had nice tartness to it too. Companion got the fish tacos which were ok and not filling enough. Another diner got the burger and also seemed to hit the spot but probably nothing particularly special. Ok I pretty much loved this place. We were staying in Olema and wanted to eat seafood, so we came here. It is on the eastern shore of Tomales Bay in western Marin County, a very natural, beautiful place. The restaurant is kind of a dive bar, and that adds to its charm immensely. We had scotch and white wine to drink, and oysters, shrimp ceviche, clam chowder, fish and chips to eat. All of it was very good, and the ceviche was amazing. I implore you to order it! First time here today. We were weirded by the ordering format where we had to scan to order but we said, whatever let's give it a shot because the menu looked amazing. Really cute place and absolutely delicious food. We ordered the cheeseburger and fish and chips. Fries were perfectly crispy. Everything we ate was so good! For dessert we ordered the soft serve ice cream in cones. Soooo so good. Think maybe they're short staffed or figuring things out. I don't think it's a place for folks that need/want constant table service (which we don't mind). Overall great experience, looking forward to coming back many more times and telling friends to go too. Everything comes to the table clearly microwaved. It's HOT. Like scalding your skin hot. Soup cools and it is like slurping water. No flavor. Not like a clam chowder I've ever had. Chicken strips look okay. Cool temp outside. My husband starts to break it apart for the baby and it's scorching hot inside, burning his fingers. I look at the chicken and it's yellow and not textured right. Looks like it's far past expiration. No way I'm feeding that to my baby. My husband is brave. He tastes the chicken. It's not edible, definitely expired. They're serving this microwaved, scorching hot inside, expired chicken to children. My husband ate his soup. Nothing else was eaten. Check out on app to find they auto populate a 20% tip. $50 for two cups of soup and kids menu chicken strips cooked in the microwave. Power outage all down Tomales Bay today. Not Nick's Cove!! Me and my sister were coming from Stockton and had an appetite to please. We thankfully ordered our food and drinks at the bar. We ordered a half dozen raw oysters, fish tacos, LAGUNITAS Beer battered fish & chips and shared the red/green sauced prawn enchiladas!! Oysters were fresh and buttery smooth, fish & chips were crispy and tender, and the enchiladas were creamy with the freshest prawns cooked perfectly, tucked inside corn tortillas. Employees and customers wore masks . Service was friendly and quick. My Bloody Mary was spicy and not thick. Nick's has curb appeal inside and out. Seating was limited inside and out and was first come first serve. We waited a bit and quickly swooped a table outside on the pier after it was bussed. Weather was sunny and cool on this March afternoon. Explored the Beach Shack at the end of the pier and it was decorated really nicely. The burgers had to be sent back because it was more on the rare- medium rare than the medium well asked. The clam chowder was thin and under seasoned. Steak wasn't cooked to order and also under seasoned. There were five adults and 5 kids and everyone was like meh. Should've researched more before we drove out here. This review is for restaurant! I think the average stars of reviews....3.5 stars....is about right! Its such a great spot, right on the water, appealing menu and we easily got a table with a view. The good news: My friend's cioppino was truly good. 5 star cioppino. Both the broth and the fish/shellfish/toast. My oysters were NOT very interesting: too big, and I like lemon/garlic/butter which is not their usual prepration. (they do bar b q sauce). They kindly tried to make them the way I like them (thanks for trying!) but still not good! The french fries say they come with fennel pollen (which I love! and is rare!!) and lemon zest. The lemon zest was lovely, but could not taste (nor see) the fennel. (I did not discuss this with the waitress....my bad). I was too busy trying to horn in on the cioppino broth in my friend's bowl. Still, its such a sweet spot. Go! and order Cioppino! with fries and remind them to put the fennel pollen on the fries! read more

Last night was a disappointment - it feels like this place has gone downhill since our last visit a year ago (and previous visits.) I'm sympathetic to whatever staffing or kitchen issues they may have, but...sigh. The BBQ oysters were half-heartedly cooked in a blah sauce, the Louis salad was mediocre, and the halibut was dry and overcooked. Only the mussels were good, and I enjoyed my tasty drink, 'un-buzzed', recommended by our server, who also apologized for the way that after the oysters, everything came out at once, so our table for two had too many dishes - it just felt like we were eating in a rushed diner. The table wasn't wiped clean, the oysters were sort of dumped off (without plates, which fortunately our server recognized was missing eventually). Too sweet and couldn't taste the garlic sauce. Super disappointing. Charcuterie Board- Don't let me get started. My 5 year old nephew and niece have constructed better charcuterie boards! Pale, thin slices of meat enough for an infant. 1 type of flavorless cheese. Hand full of nuts and a tiny bit of honey. All items covering about 20% of the board. For $22, this place ought to be ashamed! Fish and Chips - Wife got the fish and chips, it was ok but was more on the mushier side and the batter fell apart easy. Fries were the best thing we had out of all things. The Cole slaw it came with also had no flavor and was more of a garnish than anything. Clam chowder - It was ok if you like soupy, watery chowders with uncooked potato's and no flavor. Sole- My Sole fish came out raw and had to send it back. The spinach was the best thing of the dish. The potato's it came with seemed not cooked through and barely touched it. For a lunch closer to $200 (looking back on other reviews, didn't realize they auto-charge you 20% gratuity otherwise I would have not left a other 20% tip for a trash experience), you would hope the quality would be amazing or close to it. Nick's Cove is worth a stop on your way up to Sonoma County (or anytime you're in the area and craving fresh seafood). The seafood was incredibly fresh: mussels, clams, and oysters. Order the BBQ oysters and you won't regret it! They're juicy, plump, and the BBQ sauce is heavenly. I even asked our waiter if we could purchase the sauce, but unfortunately they don't sell it but totally should! Even the chicken sandwich and fries were surprisingly really tasty. High quality ingredients, and the sandwich was well constructed and had great flavor. I also dipped it and the fries in the extra BBQ sauce. It was so good to see the improvements in this place! The food used to be mediocre at best and the service almost non-existent. But every thing has changed. The Cioppino had a delicious thick broth and everything was cooked just right. The Halibut was tender and juicy with a very good sauce with roasted cauliflowers. The tequila cocktails were great. Manager wasn't helpful, simply looked annoyed. Yet!!! Their app still populates 20% when you've done most of the work yourself. Well, it's been a while since I have eater at Nick's. The last time about 4 or so years ago it was pretty good. Today my wife and I stopped by while driving along Tomales Bay for the afternoon. All I can say is that things have changed. For starters, you can grab a menu or use that bullshit QR code menu crap. I saw many older people scratching their heads about that. So, after reading the menu you will have to get up and go to a counter by the front door to place your order. Gone are the way of the waiters. After you place your order they ring up the total and you pay up front ( much like McDonald's or Burger King). The tip must be figured at that time and I think 20% was the default tip. How the hell are you going to know what to tip if you haven't gotten any service yet???? I put in $5.00 until I see how the meal and further service (if any) turns out. Drinks: I ordered a bloody Mary. Not sure what it cost, but it should have been free. I didn't taste any alcohol at all. Very weak to say the least... never again. My wife ordered a glass of wine that was good. How can you screw that up? No water was offered as a server never came to the table.. remember, you have to truck to the counter to order yourself. Food: Wife ordered the halibut. Was ok but needed salt to have any kind of flavor, and the portion wasn't the greatest either. Her meal came with steamed spinach, a couple small boiled potatoes that had absolutely no seasoning on them. She only ate the halibut. A $35.00 piece of fish...wow. Clam chowder: Had plenty of clams, which is good. Flavor was okay but had better at Morro Bay and Fort Bragg harbor. My meal was the fish and chips. Chips were pretty good and I got plenty. The fish was cooked okay, but for some reason the fish was mushy. Like old fish, but didn't taste like old fish, just pretty much no flavor. The fish didn't flake like a good fresh cod should. Again, pretty much better everywhere else I have eaten it. Summary: All in all, a pretty much bland lunch that cost a bit over $100.00, including my $5.00 tip. Having the customers do all the work, why should we leave any tip? They want 20% just to bring the meal to the table? Since I did everything else, why not call my name and I'll go get the food from where I ordered it?? This place has adopted the same method of serving food that Taco Bell has been doing for years. Let me begin it is a destination restaurant as there aren't any other restaurants or shops nearby, it is right on beautiful Highway1 . We go to that beautiful area for hiking near or walking right along the ocean, so we drive over, appx 30 -45 minutes from the ocean, next to Tomales Bay(views in pictures) Okay food, with chef Constantino now at the helm the food is elevated in flavor and quality of products but you can order comfort food , for example Fish and Chips! Oh, crab rolls. Hubby ordered a cheeseburger and fries . Let it be known we rarely eat beef but we decided to try it. Great burger w/ a white cheddar cheese that played very well with the beef... so juicy! The picture you see is the crab roll. Albeit very good and good amount of crab meat it was too mushy with the mayo maybe even a tangy almost tzatziki mix? Don't get me wrong. It was really good but just a little bit too much of the mayo mixture. When we go again, I will definitely try the fish and chips. Very casual place, hiking wear and tennis shoes "friendly". My burger was horrible, i mean hard, chewy meat. 2 bites and I could not take it anymore. Fries were tasty and fresh. I tasted my husband's fish and chips and it tasted gross, like not fresh. Clam chowder was not good either. There was very minimal human interaction throughout lunch yet they expected a nice tip. Overall, we left the place hangry so people don't waste your money there. My friend recommended Nick's Cove for a late afternoon snack (wine and a cheese plate.) Absolutely loved it! First of all, it's not as touristy as some of the other spots in the area. The ambiance feels as if you've stopped into your local bar, where everyone knows your name, that just happens to be in a stunning location on an ocean bay. The setting is truly unique; you place your order at the entrance, pick up your drinks at the bar, and head out to the pier with a buzzer that lets you know when your dish is ready at the kitchen. When we visit Point Reyes, typically for the express purpose of loading up on oysters at Hog Island Oyster Co (see separate review), we usually stop in at Nick's Cove as well. Nick's has a very good bar, with a respectable selection of spirits and wine. Their food is good too, albeit pricy, and the menu is currently more limited due to the covid dining restrictions. This time around we had a dozen oysters, the clam chowder, and the chicken wings. The chicken wings were very good. So were the oysters, but $36 for a dozen is a bit steep, especially when they're literally harvested right from their backyard. As with the rest of the state, dining is currently limited to outdoors only. There is plenty of outdoor/patio seating available, however Tomales Bay climate can be harsh - cold and windy - so dress accordingly. It would be a welcome improvement if they installed outdoor heaters and/or any kind of insulation from the wind. There is one bothersome thing for me here, which is the dead animals on the walls of the interior of the restaurant. I really REALLY wish they would take these 'trophies' down. But back to the good stuff. One of the very best things about this place is the cottages across the street that are owned by the same people, that are available for lodging. There is typically a two-night stay minimum, but not always. We've stayed in the cottages a couple of times, and it is truly one of the most romantic places I've ever stayed. If you are looking for a romantic getaway with your significant other, absolutely give this place a try! Then in the morning you can head back across the street to the restaurant for breakfast or a nice early lunch on the bay. read more

We were so disappointed in Nick's Cove food today. It's usually one of our favorite places, but the chowder was literally clam milk soup~ runny and lukewarm- not chowder. I have never in my life sent food back and asked for a refund, but it was so bad we had no choice. We asked the manager what happened and she said there's new management and a new recipe. I can guarantee there's no cream in that chowder. It was almost empty which I chalked up to the time of day - around 1:30 on Sunday, but down the road Hog island and Marshall's store and oyster co were packed. Had a few great meals at Nick's several years ago, so were happy to return. Arrived around 3:30 p.m. on New Years Day - a busy day out at Pt. Reyes, but found a table fairly readily - it's seat yourself now, so my BF looked for a table where people were leaving, and snagged a great one by the window. We sat for 10 min. or so --- wondering where the servers were, before noticing the QR code on the table - so once we connected to WiFi, we managed to order. The beverages and food arrived quite quickly - thank goodness, as we were getting hangry - - so I guess my only problem was the lack of information about the self-ordering process. All the servers were gracious and helpful. The food was good... particularly those fries - the extra spicy Bloody Mary was good and the wine nicely chilled. The post-meal/sunset stroll on the pier was lovely - so go to Nick's but go informed :) read more
