The menu only had a small variety of items, 4 or 5 main dishes, and several appetizers and a couple salads. I found it hard to choose something I wanted to eat. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The tables are small with booth-style seating on one side of the table, so 4 people at a table are packed in next to each other. MAY2025 We had come out for dinner. Reservations were easy and quick for the same night. Service was on point. Answered any questions that we had, good on water refills, and checked in consistently. We were sat in a booth which was nice as the sun was dipping down for the day. We had gotten a number of things to share and I grabbed practically every vegetable dish available minus the large plates to try things out. We had the focaccia pulled apart, cracked cucumbers and pickles, roasted carrots, crispy calamari, and fire roasted beets to share. I'd say my favorite was the beets. The yogurt sauce and the nuts really balanced things out and made for nice bites and texture changes. The carrots were rich and cooked well; nicely sauteed with the sauce. The rest of the dishes were cooked well and easy to share for a cocktail night out. I'd say I'd want something for the calamari to drip into though but that's just my preference. We had also ended the night with the cheesecake and the carrot cake. The cheesecake had a nice berry compote to top, and wasn't too sweet bite to bite. The carrot cake was quite dry unfortunately. My husband and I ordered the mixed greens salad, and it was ample to share. The calamari appetizer with smoked chili remoulade and shaved Parmesan was some of the best calamari we have ever tasted. We both ordered the hanger steak for our main entree, and it was extremely tender and cooked perfectly. We had the apple crisp for dessert to complete our meal. The food, atmosphere, and service were excellent; we highly recommend them. Our only request to the restaurant is to add more entrees to their menu; the menu feels limited. We went Friday for dinner for my girls weekend. It was easy to book a table and we parked at a nearby lot. Everything was so delicious my favorite was the beet salad with caramelized yogurt and toasted pistachios. My girl friends love ceviche with lemongrass and the light batter on the calamari. There was 5 ladies and we ordered 5 medium plates and 2 large plates to share which was the perfect amount of food for us to try many things. I ordered the Afternoon Delight Cocktail which nice. I enjoyed the variety of foods and how everything was so fresh tasting. I do wish we had more space as we were in a booth for 4 with a chair added so we had to clear plates so there would be room for our next courses but that was easy since everything was so yummy. I searched Yelp for oysters and came across Goldfinch. We stopped in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised to find it quiet, allowing us to choose our own seating. We picked a roomy end booth--though a heads-up: the booths aren't anchored, so every time I got up, it slid and needed to be readjusted from the outside. Our server was friendly and helpful when we were choosing drinks. When I asked about the two rosé options, she had to refer back to the menu but ended up recommending the Ameztoi Rubentis Rosé. She offered a small sample, and I really enjoyed it so went with a glass. The drink menu was impressive, featuring a solid selection of local and French wines, a few specialty cocktails, a full bar, and a nice beer list. We ordered a few small bites to share, starting with a dozen Marin Miyagi oysters--perfectly sized and served with lemon and a light mignonette. I appreciated that they were super fresh and sourced locally from Tomales Bay. We also tried the Local Halibut Ceviche, which was beautifully presented with edible flowers that added a surprising but lovely flavor. Lastly, we had the Grilled Shrimp Skewer--four well-seasoned shrimp served over a small bed of dressed lettuce and roasted lemon. It felt like a bonus that the salad element was just as good as the shrimp. The interior décor is tastefully done--elegant yet inviting and fun. However, the one downside of our visit was the number of flies buzzing around inside. It was a hot day, so maybe that contributed, but it was distracting to see at least half a dozen flying around at any given moment. Hopefully, it was just a one time thing. Overall, I loved the food and the overall experience. I'd recommend checking it out if you're in the area--especially for the oysters and ceviche. The dishes are on the smaller and pricier side, but they're fresh and flavorful. While I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to return on a future visit, I'm definitely glad we tried it once. read more

The concomitant spätzle-veggie mix and jus were great accompaniments. *Grilled Shrimp skewer was also delicious and had a nice kick to it. The Meh: *Prices ain't cheap but they ain't Michelin level pricing, either. *While the lemon cheesecake was a great cheesecake, I personally, could've used more lemon flavor in it. Almost two years from that last time my wife and i ate at Goldfinch. Here's an update. * our greeter was not a typical greeter that ask your name, grabs the menus, and puts you at a table and walks away. Instead (I wish I had asked her name!) she was more like an old friend who greeted us with an authentic smile, grabbed the menus, then showed my wife 3 different options for tables, each with pluses and minuses. And then she stopped by again to chat. I mean, who DOES that? * our server, Jessica, came to the table very quickly and looked at me and said "I seem to remember you" and she was right! Two years later. Again, who DOES that! And she interacted with my wife and with me, giving a bit more info on ones we were trying to decide. There's one restaurant who we have been "regulars" where we get that treatment. It's such a treat to have people who know there product and love to share it with their clients AND makes eye contact as they walk by to see if there's a question from one of us. No your normal stop by, ask the everything all right and then evaporate. * and the fellow that was delivering food answered our questions as well. I think that service side of the house is a TEAM and each of them were, IMHO, authentic and committed to the restaurant's success and the joy of the clients. I just wish they were 10 minutes away vs the half an hour away! The food was only analogous to our first visit. Instead of a collection of ingredients each dish was an entity made from an ingredients, each dish had its own personality and the ingredients were woven into a well-balanced whole. The standout this time for my wife and I was the dessert - a carrot cake that was made with almond flour, had bits of raisins and nuts mixed in, and had a wonderful icing that had a texture of cream cheese but it was veggie not dairy based. Wish I could remember the ingredient. Net net it was splendid. And I loved Jessica's comment when she saw the "clean plate club" and said "looks like you have a separate dessert stomach!" It brings me great joy to deal with people who bring forward their authentic self, and magnetize guests to share their love of the food. And their genuine smiles put sunshine in my heart. I've been to this establishment (Goldfinch in Sebastopol) a number of times, I usually go to the bar and have a couple drinks and a couple bites for their happy hour. The drinks are somewhat lackluster but fine, not nearly as solid as many of the other bars in the county. The real issue here is the service, it's never been warm, but the last time I was there I actually walked out when I was ignored for 15 minutes by bartenders who were walking back and forth around me as if I didn't exist. It was the last straw with this abysmal lack of customer service and unearned pretension. I won't be back. read more

For starters, we enjoyed the local pickled vegetables and the ball park fries. She had the beet salad as her entree while I had the fried calamari. We thought the interior touches from the comfortable booth seating to the cool lighting fixture, right down to the silverware were awesome! They also have the best restroom design in my opinion. Had one of the most flavorful steaks of my life at Goldfinch in Sebastopol, CA. I took my parents out to eat to celebrate their recent move from North Carolina. We started with the seared ahi and chile relleno--both are absolutely delicious and I highly recommend. But the star of the show was the steak, with layered potato pave (yum), grilled broccolini, and blue cheese crumbles. Sauce was savory, with sharp bites from the cheese, with the perfectly medium rare steak was a real treat. Ended with a to die for lemon cheesecake.
