WHEN: Sat @11am For my dear friend who lives in Sebastopol, we came here so I can take her out on her birthday (we tried the other year but it was closed!). There's an ample amount of parking since it's located in The Barlow. We arrived right at opening time: 11am. This place is gorgeous!!! Anna Leigh took such great care of us, and here's what we ordered from the Brunch Menu: CARROT GINGER TURMERIC SHRUB - $6 It's a shame I don't do day drinking nor much drinking these days, so I'm glad there's this option which sounds nice and healthy-ish! It's mostly vinegar soda, but I do taste a tiny bit of the carrot ginger turmeric. I don't usually drink carbonated beverages so sadly I didn't finish my drink. FRIES - $14 smoked mushroom 'ketchup', aïoli We didn't get any aioli and the ketchup tasted like regular ketchup. Fries were good as expected--hot and crispy! FRIED CHICKEN - $24 Hot sauce crema, Seasonal Pickles. This is pretty much Chicken Karaage which is good! I really like the hot sauce crema which I'm glad is not spicy at all! CINNAMON SUGAR BEIGNETS - $12 Comes with Apple Butter. This is more like donut holes, but I'm glad it came out piping hot! It's fine but the apple butter makes it fun. Fern Bar feels more like a place to hang out in the evening for drinks--there's so many selections of it! And they all sound So good! All in all I still enjoyed my time here with my friend to celebrate her birthday.
Another solid 5 stars for Fern Bar! Ambience -- Cocktails -- Food -- The happy hour bites are truly fabulous. My friend ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which came with a surprisingly delicious kale salad. We both enjoyed a pear cocktail--absolute perfection! I went with the Buddha Bowl on a recommendation, and it was outstanding. Service was efficient and friendly, and the happy hour pricing offers excellent value. A consistently great experience all around!
On Saturday night, my boyfriend treated me to a date night in Sebastopol and made reservations here for an early birthday celebration for me. We each ordered a cocktail and also brought a bottle of wine to enjoy with dinner. We shared the kimchi pancake, a bao bun, lamb skewers, and the cod for dinner. This restaurant has the savory items down pat. Every dish felt unique and curated with so much flavor annoy was presented so beautifully. If I had to nitpick anything on the menu, it would have to be the desserts. I almost wish they either didn't offer desserts at all or partnered with a patisserie to provide something more than churros and chocolate mousse. It just felt very lackluster for such a fine establishment. Overall, I am so happy I enjoyed this restaurant as much as I did! It had been on my list for quite a while, and I'm so glad that I finally got to try it out!
Great happy hour! The space is so beautifully decorated and the staff are friendly and helpful. We got a few drinks and they were very well balanced. Also got some numbing chicken it was juicy and crunchy.
SEP2025 Came in for a quick spell since I had to wait for someone. Luckily, this was during happy hour so an easy way to kill an hour. The bartenders are easy going and answered any questions that I had. They checked in frequently as well. I had ordered a pigs in a blanket, pickles, some of the numb nums, greens, and fried chicken along with a thai & dry. The thai & dry was good, thankfully not too sweet. Everything was made well but I really liked the chicken dishes. It was interesting having the numb nums since the tingle was subtle; just haven't had wings with that type of flavor. The fried chicken was light, crispy and cooked through. The dip that came with it rounded out everything. Definitely a cute little space and a good stop for happy hour.
Walked in Saturday night and crossed our fingers for a table. Luckily we were seated immediately and there were still a handful of tables available. I ordered the smashburger and my wife got the salad with fried chicken. She also got a mocktail. Both of our meals were tasty but you have to order fries separately when you get the burger...grhhhh!!! $24 for a burger that doesn't even come with the regular fixings (no lettuce, tomato, onions, etc), I think it's a bit crazy to not even include fries. However, the burger and the added fries were still tasty! Our server was also very friendly and at tentative. The decor and interior design was beautiful as well, tons of plants and wooden furniture. However they had a taxidermy hawk on display, which I'm 99% isn't legal. It's quirky but hawks are indeed protected by fed/state law and are not legal to possess. Great restaurant, but quite pricy and some slightly questionable decor!
This place has a ton of potential, it has a sweet hippy vibe. They have amazing reviews and it's such a beautiful space, but it did not wow me in anyway. I was so excited to come here, I ordered the Kyoto sour and it missed the bar. The ingredients are great but I was good off one cocktail as it didn't make me want another. My friend did get the Whiskey for Breakfast and that was a lovely cocktail. We also ordered the green chili onion dip, I was looking forward to this and it ended up being like a whipped cheese, like no exaggeration it's airy and whipped, extremely airy. The fermented potato chips are great but I don't think for $19 this appetizer is worth it. The cocktails missed for sure and I just wouldn't make it a point to be back here. Not to mention the bartenders were not social at all very dry. They were very cut throat and straight to the point. Needless to say I will not be back anytime soon.

I went with two friends, we split a bunch of the apps, and still had a ton to take home. -My favorite was the numb nums: had such a unique and interesting spice to it! -Spicy Lamb Skewers: solid, as i dont usually order lamb -Fries: the mushroom dipping sauce was unique! -Greens: can't go wrong with a good salad -Baked Potato Gnocchi: exactly as its described. rich and warm.

Easily the best gluten free fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. The bottom bun does get a little soggy from the sauce if you take it to go, but that was my fault. Hidden in such a cute little area too.
Been here a 3 times and I have great experience every-time! First off, the place is so charming! With plants and ferns and vintage style furniture makes the space so nice and instagrammable worthy! My first visit here was on a friend's bday! The chicken sandwich was sooo delicious and juicy considering its fried! Their fries are also thin and crispy but mushy on the outside and seasoned well! Their cocktails are to die for! The service is always outstanding and they cater to all your dietary needs! Or atleast they do their best to give alternatives! The 2nd time I went here was for a brunch and I shared a spam and eggs fried rice and chicken sandwich with my friend! Again, delicious! The 3rd time was during Father's day as a treat to my husband! He got the smashed burger and i got the eggs and cheese sandwich! The chili and cashew combination on the sandwich was unique but when you bite it it makes sense, if you know what I mean! I will probably order chicken sandwich again next time or salad but I am goad I tried other food they have on their menu! Will definitely recommend this place to every one I know esp if they are visiting!
Came during Happy Hour for some drinks and bites. The vibes were warm and inviting. The drinks were very good. They have several different infused alcohols which amps up the complexity of their drinks. I appreciated their clarified cocktails - refreshing! Food is good but down side is their food portions. Even for HH the portions are tiny (3 pigs in a blanket and 4 tiny wings). Will be back for drinks!
It feels very modern botanical here and while the vibe and decorations are nice, the food was okay. Came here for lunch and I got a fried chicken sandwich. $28 is quite pricey for a fried chicken sandwich and fries that I didn't feel were particularly special. Fiancé got one of their brunch plates and thought it was okay. Service took a while and they were quite busy.

Fern Bar is a swanky little spot tucked into a corner of The Barlow in Sebastopol. On Easter Sunday for lunch, it was not busy in the slightest! We were seated quickly inside and the server went through all the menu options really helping us pick what was good and she said everything is either made in house or sourced locally! I got the smashburger and it was delicious!! I would definitely get it again. The bun was REALLY good. so soft and somewhat airy. I'm a little weary about pickled onions, but the pickled shallots on the burger were absolutely fantastic on the burger it was a gentle more subtle onion flavor. YUM! Would eat again! read more
A hip and cool restaurant with a creative cocktail menu. The vibes are lush green magic. I really loved the staff and love in the space. The vibe was relaxed and fun. Everyone in my group stepped out of their comfort zone with cocktails. The nibbles were also tasty. Some got burgers, others got the rice or fried chicken. I got the cod dish. It was cooked very well. The skin was crispy and everything was seasoned well. I enjoyed the corn cake on the bottom. One thing not to skip is the side of fries. It comes with three dips and a nice sharing size for the table. The setting lovely and I'm really glad I checked this spot off my list. read more

Loved it here! Came in for some food after a party near by and was seated right away. We tried the gnocchi app and the burger. The cheese sauce on the gnocchi app was velvety and luscious and I could've eaten like three more bowls of it. The burger was moist and I loved the addition of the arugula for a textural contrast. Went there for lunch. While the menu is limited, everything was well executed and delicious. The fried chicken sandwich looked deceptively simple but the jalapeño lime slaw really elevated the flavors. Only negative was that it's pretty pricey for what you get. The sandwich was small so I think $28 for it seems excessive. Service was fast and attentive. We had another wine tasting to get to, and the waiter made sure we got our food quickly. Decor was so cute, and the ambiance was perfect for a casual lunch either friends. Great place to stop by in the Barlow! read more

The restaurant is a well decorated and very green space. I loved the vibe inside. We had our dog with us so we had to sit on the patio outside. Not a lot of vibe out there unfortunately, but what can you do. Even though we were tucked away on the patio, the staff checked up on us very frequently. The drinks were great, I'd come back just for the cocktails. The ones we tried were Neighbor's Bounty and Mango Mule. The food was good. I was ecstatic to find a place with a gluten free chicken sandwich on the menu. It's been a very long time since I've had a good chicken sando, and this truly delivered. The name of this restaurant definitely fits the interior of this place. When you enter it feels like you entered a forest with a cozy vibe. Whoever decorated this place just knew how to make each plant work with one another. The employees here are super nice and welcoming. We didn't really know what to order and our server was kind enough to recommend what she thought was good. I like the drink menu they offer. I do not drink, but they do have "mocktails" that has a wine that I love. It's a non-alcoholic wine that I usually don't see places offer so I was happy and excited when I saw that this was on the menu. I ended up ordering the "mocktail" of a mimosa and that was super good and delicious. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich and I got the egg and cheese sandwich. The chicken sandwich was cooked perfectly where the chicken was moist and the bread was delicious. I would say that the egg and cheese was good , but definitely should have added a protein with it. I would say that the egg and cheese sandwich did have a lot of peanuts in it that I had to scrape some of it off since the taste of peanuts overpowered the sandwich itself. Overall, I can definitely see why this place earned a lot of awards for being a great restaurant and will come back again. read more

May 25, 2025 - Sunday - Memorial Weekend We sat at an outside bar top with a couple stools. We had our puppy with us. The menu seemed aimed at brunch type items. We split the beef tongue Reuben pastrami sandwich with a spicey aeoli sauce and red cabbage on rye bread. We also got a hazy IPA beer and glass of Chardonnay. The sandwich, which came with a new potato dill potato salad, was good and tasted like a nicely seasoned thin sliced roast beef. Our drinks were tasty too. Lizzy D was our server. Went for Happy Hour on a Monday which was a Holiday for some. They were not staffed appropriately for the number of people that showed up. One cook and one server, I believe there was a bartender but I didn't see him or her. We weren't in a hurry, so the wait wasn't too big a deal. Hopefully this isn't the normal for staffing. There was another person who came around to take payment. The vibe is very relaxed with many plants and seating with leather or green backing. There is also a small lounge area with couch's and coffee tables. I had the chicken sandwich $20 ( jalapeño lime slaw, spicy cheese, mayo,potato bun). The chicken was light and crispy- it was a decent sandwich. For $20 I felt it should have come with fries- that was an additional $6, so passed on ordering. I really liked their clarified Mai Tai ( white & dark rum, Cointreau, orange blossom syrup & almond). I'd order it again. It's a nice place - the staffing level just really made the place feel off. read more
First off, the place is gorgeous with a relaxed upscale vibe, like I wish every restaurant had. Lighting was soft and low which was relaxing. Secondly, the food was absolutely delicious! I Appreciated all the gluten-free vegan options and I loved the Savoy Cabbage dosa dish, truly special. Service was unobtrusive but professional and friendly. Will certainly go back. Excellent. Interesting menu. The drink menu was huge. They had a good amount of NA cocktails which I love. First of all the location is at The Barlow, and the interior is so much fun. It's giving groovy, hippy, and very green with plant life. We loved the fried chicken sandwich (maybe the best I've ever had), the flavor had it standing out from the others I've tried. The homemade spam over rice was a treat, and we loved the salad. Friendly and attentive service. Can't wait to come back! read more

My partner and I fought for our LIVES to try to get a reseveration on a Friday night and ended up only grabbing a slot for early Saturday dinner that someone must have cancelled. Staff tried really hard to be helpful and fit us in whenever we called or visited, but since this was my first time here, I really wanted the experience of sitting inside with all the decor. It was absolutely WORTH sitting down to eat & enjoy the fun green, nature-y decor. The main interior area had so many GORGEOUS plants & taxidermied animals. I was a little apprehensive about Asian fushion food especially in Sebastapol - but the food truly changed my life (not to be dramatic). Highlights included the refreshing & light Early Girl Tomato Custard and crispy Eggplant Katsu with laab on top. Also had the Pork Skewers and Kimchijeon, were also very flavorful & beautifully presented. I came out of sobreity to try the drinks after reading about how Fern Bar came to be. Tried the Taco 'Bout It and Thailand Iced Tea, which were yummy but didn't feel like there was much alcohol in them. Honestly very fairly priced in my opinion. I have been so impressed with the food in Sebastapol and will definitely be coming again JUST to eat at Fern Bar again. read more
We stopped here for dinner while walking around d the Barlow. I love the restaurants decor with all the greenery and there is a back deck and patio you can sit on. Staff was attentive. Menu is a bit small but the food was very tasty. The Umani Bomb dish was amassing, even my husband who isn't normally a vegetarian dish lover thought it was delicious! read more

Came here for a week night date night. I love the decor of this place. Lots of plants scattered throughout the restaurant. Great place to meet up someone for drinks, date night, or a friend gathering. They have table seating, bar seating, and lounge couchs and chair seating. They have a very good drink menu with lots of unique cocktails. We got the long Thailand ice tea, ice queen, and Kyoto sour. For food we got the umami bomb, burger and added fries and also the churros. Kyoto sour had a nice sour taste to it but I think there are too many ingredients. Hard to discern all the flavors, almost like it had not directions. Kinda like if you mixed a bunch of sauces together and you are left confused. Ice queen was good and refreshing. Kinda reminded me of a mint mojito. Was bummed I couldn't really taste the lychee. Long Thailand was my favorite cocktail. You get the creaminess with first sip then you get the Thai tea flavor and then it ends with a nice coconut flavor. It was dangerously too easy to drink. The umami bomb was very good. Nice texture from the fried broccoli and Crispy rice. Mushrooms were on point! Wish it had a little more sauce. It was a little dry but I know more sauce would dampen them crispy rice texture. So hard problem to solve. My husbands burger was good but what was the star of his dish was the fries!! They were thin like shoe string, crispy, salty and flavorful. Had a good fighting to the fries that didn't bog you down in grease. Taste like they use some fat or beef tallow to fire them. Now I usually go for appetizer over dessert, but my friend recommended the churro. Churros came out hot and warm. Inside is a little too soft for me. Felt like the dough the disintegrates as you're eating it. Also didn't like the sauce. Had like a thin applesauce consistency with hint of cumin. Good service overall felt well attended to. Would definitely come back for drinks and their fries. Overall, 4.5/5 read more
