    Greek Salad

Walt from Walt's Adventures reporting from the Americana in Santa Rosa, California. This small eatery has a small outdoor seating with a pleasant indoor atmosphere. We were fortunate to find street parking and were directed to our table inside upon arriving. Our selections were presented well and all prepared to our satisfaction. I would recommend their salads and BBQ burger. Their fries were ok. Regrettably, there seemed to be a miscommunication with the staff resulting in a bit of a wait to have our order taken or to receive drink refills. Besides this hiccup, I would recommend their Americana.

It's warmer in the back and still a nice bright space

Delicious food, attentive service, sweet ambiance! Farm to table restaurants are more common in Sebastopol and Sonoma than Marin (where I live). Yes, they can be more expensive but there are some more reasonably priced items and the quality was excellent. We shared a Huevos Rancheros and Avocado Toast. The huevos had a more smoky, dark beans and sauce which was unique and flavorful. I could tell the corn tortillas under were thicker than most and had a wonderful chewy quality and the eggs were more orangey yolked. I licked my plate. Yum. Avocado toast had local bakery Red Bird sourdough toast creatively done with pickled onions, radishes and more. Land and Water coffee, which I loved. Our server was a bit overwhelmed with a busier than usual Monday crowd (a school holiday) but she kept in touch and refreshed our coffee. Atmosphere is pleasant and I'll be back to try more! It's not in my budget for an everyday experience but a great treat for a couple times a month.

Great chiliquiles and the Sebastopol Omelette.

Had an excellent breakfast here of chiliquiles and the Sebastopol Omelette. All local and fresh.

Special of the day: Fish sandwich with a side

The last time I was here, it was the Gypsy Café so I was looking forward to lunch at this relatively new spot. The majority of our group of five had eaten breakfast here before and they had all been favorably impressed. It must have been a good day for fish as the daily specials included a fish sandwich and fish and chips. We sat in the booth near the rear of the restaurant. It was quiet and we could hear ourselves talk. Our server left a bottle of water on the table for us. It's always nice to be able to serve ourselves rather than have to wave someone down. They do have a couple small tables out front on the sidewalk in addition to several tables inside. Now for the food.... All of our dishes looked beautiful. Three of us ordered the fish sandwich, which came with a side. I ordered the green salad and two friends ordered the coleslaw. I was sitting next to the person who ordered the fish and chips and it looked delicious! Our other friend ordered the kale Caesar salad and it was a fair amount of fresh greens with croutons, shredded Estero Gold cheese, and sliced red onion. I felt it would have been nicer if they served a roll or a piece of hearty bread with his salad. The fish on my sandwich was cooked perfectly and there was a layer of red cabbage coleslaw in between the bun. Keep your napkin nearby as you will need it! The green salad that accompanied my sandwich was fresh and crisp and delightful. My dining companions mentioned that they wished their coleslaw had less of a mayo-like ingredient and a bit more seasoning. Ambiance inside is pleasant and clean. Parking can be tricky on Main Street but there is parking across Main Street in a public lot.

Awesome cafe. Family owned small business. Friendly chef who cooks with quality local ingredients. We had the chicken sandwich and Americana salad again! Too good.

I ordered the potatoes and eggs. It came eithbdpinich. It was okay but I'm not sure I'll go back. It wasn't anything special. The waitperson was good. The cafe was cute.

I love eating this food, I love it, I wish I could do it more often but speaking my truth it is expensive. But I will also say it is worth it! Everything is so fresh, the ambience is perfect for a brunch diner, it isn't freezing in here it's actually warm! When did restaurants stop turning on the heat? Anyway, delicious delicious food but be ready to spend $80 on breakfast .

    Crab sandwich and onion rings
    Victoria B.

It's was ok. I wanted a crab sandwichand they had one so I was happy about that because I was heading to the coast to get one however, I was very hungry so I settled. Although it presents well it's really not that flavorful and the onion rings were too greasy just not for me. It wasn't horrid but for the price I expected much more than shreds of crab soaked in whatever that sauce it was covered in.

What allowed my husband and I to host a particularly memorable rehearsal dinner was the staff's attention to service. There was one cook and 4 servers for 19 guests. We were for want of nothing--serving appetizers, pouring wine, pouring water, clearing dishes, serving us each course all at the same time--I could go on and on. The lead server had a subtle way of communicating with me during the event. I appreciated the flow of serving the meals and allowing us time for our special toasts. To top it off, cleaning up afterwards! I'm not sure the stovetop has ever been that clean. Every person at the rehearsal dinner commented how great the food and service was. Two of us have dietary restrictions and the caterers were very accommodating of this. It was a real positive start to our wedding weekend. Becky was wonderful to work with--emailing and talking with me on the phone to make sure we had what we needed and had our bases covered. I highly recommend The Cook and The Drummer for an event or dinner party if the host really wants to enjoy themselves and the food.

I made a reservation for 6pm on the deck as it had seatbacks and my husband has a bad back and can't sit on a picnic table. It's an elevated section above the beer garden, which that night had a singer with guitar. Service was pleasant though a little slow with drinks but they were pretty busy. We both had margaritas to start, which were $16 plus $3 for call brand so $19 each. Pretty good but not too strong. I then had the Hopmunk hefewisen beer which was only $8, much more reasonable. I had the Biergarten cheeseburger on a pretzel bun, cooked perfectly medium rare. Served with caramelized onions, bacon, smoked Gouda and a beer cheese, it was tasty but pretty messy! Cost was $23 plus I subbed a kale Caesar for $2 which was good but not worth the hype as a little dry. Husband had the grilled mole chicken with mole sauce and Spanish rice for $24. It was a large portion with two pieces of chicken and he enjoyed it. We then saw a show in the stone tavern next to the beer garden. It's an intimate venue with not a bad view in the house. We had seats because my husband is disabled so we're right in the front row. Otherwise it was standing only. Great acoustics and venue. I would go there often if I lived in Sebastopol, as it's right near the Barlow and downtown. Definitely recommend for food, entertainment and atmosphere.

We ordered the buffalo wings as well as the steak and frites and their chicken Philly sandwich. The steak plate was pretty good and the wings were also relatively good. The steak does have chimichurri on it and the salad is really good as well or the coleslaw. I can't remember what it came with. The wings taste pretty fresh and they do give you blue cheese and ranch with them, as well as vegetables like carrots and celery. However you are paying $17 for eight wings just a heads up. My friend personally did not enjoy the chicken plate. She felt like the chicken did not taste fresh but quite frankly, we were unable to get our waiters attention throughout our whole time seated there so at the end, we decided to just leave it without saying anything. The service is the reason for the lower rating. I think the food was pretty decent, but the service was not up to par. Service here was mediocre. I will add that I do not say that lightly and I normally do not like saying that about restaurants. I normally understand when service is off if the restaurant is full however this restaurant was pretty empty. At first our server came around twice and then we ordered and once after she brought out the waters. My friend had to ask her twice to bring a lemon for her water because it seems that the server forgot, although from what I could tell, she was really only serving our table and maybe two others. When the food came out I asked if she could refill my water. She said she would be back with more water. However, she literally did not come back until 30 minutes later and that was after my friend had to flag her down and ask her if she could bring us more water. I should also say that this was after we had finished the entire meal, which at that point water was really not necessary. What really pushed the experience over the limit was the server mentioning to us when we were paying that she got off the clock early because it was so slow. Meanwhile I sat there wondering if this was the reason that her service was so awful. While sitting there eating, I did notice that in general service was a problem for this restaurant... I noticed another customer walked in and sat for a while and wasn't spoke to. When he asked them if they were still serving food, he was responded to rudely. I also noticed another customer asked in regard to the menu and another server told him that the menu was over there on the other side without giving any direction. Aesthetically speaking, the spot is really cute. There's a lot of lights. They have a lot of plants however, based on the service, I don't think I would come back here. My friend who has been coming here for many years was actually shocked at how bad the service was today and said that this was pretty abnormal. Who knows maybe it was an off day. Either way after being unattended for more than 30 minutes and ignored it didn't really leave any reason to come back here again.

We ordered 3/4 of the menu items and were super impressed with every item from presentation to layered flavors. Sometimes Thai restaurants are a bit boring and westernized but the flavor here were bold and nicely nuanced. For those sensitive to spice, they also offer to make some dishes half spice. The most impressive dish was the rock fish - it is a full size fish with herb and lime garnishes; the fish was fresh and delicious. My favorite dish was actually the tofu salad - the tofu is actually silken soft on the inside as promised - and surrounded by lots of fresh herbs and citrus. The drunken noodles also stood out as non-typical with excellent wok heat to give it a deep umami flavor. Service was casual and non-intrusive but also very friendly and attentive. I appreciated the proactive extra napkins for our dish and was impressed by how they handled a huge pain in the butt customer sitting next to us who literally complained about every single dish. They patiently took her complaints and offered her alternatives while I admittedly wondered why the customer even bothered to eat a Thai restaurant at all, I felt bad for the staff but they handled it so professionally. They were almost like a deconstructed dumpling with noodle sheets and spring onions that you wrapped in lettuce leaves. The chili oil was really rich and added a lot of flavor to each bite. We also shared the pad Thai. It also came deconstructed with fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, and other seasonings on the side so you could mix everything to your liking. It was a fun presentation but I wasn't quite sure how much of each ingredient to add. Overall, I enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere.
