I can't believe I slept on this place for so long. I've only recently started coming here more often, and somehow I keep ordering the same thing every time because it's just that consistently good. The breakfast croissant sandwich is my go to. The menu is actually huge and feels never ending, which makes this spot perfect for groups since there's truly something for everyone. They're also great about customizing orders, which I always appreciate. The quality is on point. The croissant is never soggy, always fluffy, soft, and perfectly flaky on the outside. Inside, you get fluffy eggs with melted American cheese, fresh avocado slices, and just a touch of mayo. It comes with bacon, but I usually swap it for apple chicken sausage and they have no problem accommodating. There's plenty of indoor seating plus outdoor tables if you want to sit and people watch. Service is friendly, efficient, and welcoming. Overall, such a solid breakfast spot that I'll definitely keep coming back to. read more

It's a decent sized restaurant in the middle of Main St. I was seated quickly, though it took a bit for someone to get back to me. This happened the first time I ate here, as well. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which is bacon, eggs & cheese on a very large croissant that looked like it had been squished in a bag. Tasty though. read more

This place is a little out of our way (we're in Santa Rosa) but anytime we're in Sebastopol and want something casual, Sunshine is an easy choice. Typically we go for breakfast, which has always been great, but today we were there around lunch time. Hubby ordered the Reuben sandwich (corned beef on rye bread with Swiss cheese, thousand island, and sauerkraut) and I chose the Sebastopol sandwich (roasted turkey, applewood smoked bacon, pepperjack cheese, pesto aoili, avocado, lettuce, and tomato on a French roll). We opted for a side salad but you can also choose from several of their other yummy sides like garlic fries or onion rings. Both sandwiches, we agreed, were very flavorful and fresh. I would absolutely order that Sebastopol sandwich again. Great food, great service. I love all the local artwork that adorns the walls (that's also available for purchase). I would call it a tolerance not an experience. Presidents Day holiday could be a little of the issue, we were a party of 10, they weren't really busy or full when we arrived said it would be 15-20 minutes to put a table together, no problem, they seat us after that time and then we wait another 10-15 to take our order, order taken, 30 minutes and still no food or water refills, trying to be patient! Food finally, chicken fried steak was terrible, it's a breaded meat patty, the gravy was what I call "see through", get the idea, the egg dishes we had were just eggs, nothing special, best part was the junior breakfast with pancakes for our 3 year old. It is clean enough but only an old physical plant in downtown Sebastopol with too many tables and not enough help. It was brightly lit. There are other places to try in town. read more

Absolutely fantastic breakdown! Came here with a buddy of mine, it was I nice morning so we decided to eat outside. Our waiter was very friendly and quickly got our drinks ordered, great Ice Tea. Now when ever I go to breakfast I get one of two things, either chicken fried steak or eggs Benedict. When I saw that they have combined both in one dish I knew what had to be done. My breakfast was the best I've had in a long time, every bite was as good as the last. The hash browns were also cooked perfectly. The restaurant spends TOO MUCH time and energy on Door Dash and thus lets the "in restaurant" diner's food sit and get cold. Cold waffle and cold Benedicts. Love this place. My favorite breakfast in Sebastopol. Always good. Staff always caring and friendly. Took my granddaughter and her friend here for breakfast a couple weeks ago. So good I've been back twice since then. Light and bright, clean, and consistently great food. I like the breakfast special with the pancakes. One of the things I love the most is you never have to ask for extra crispy hash browns because they're always cooked perfectly. Their pancakes are incredible too. Decided to try the Sunshine Café for the first time. All the seats outside were taken so we went inside. The hostess took us into the adjoining dining room, which I found to be stuffy and hot so I asked if we could sit in the front dining area. She politely allowed us to change our seats. We ordered the Sebastopol Sandwich which was a turkey, bacon, jack cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato on a roll with fries, the chorizo con huevos plate which came with hash browns, tortillas, salsa and sour cream. The eggs were scrambled with mild chorizo. I ordered the fish wrap and fries. The fish was chopped up and overcooked. I picked out a piece that I thought was plastic because it was quite hard, but realized that it was fish. The fries were excellent and hot. Food came quickly and the servers were very pleasant. This was our daughter's third time to the Sunshine Café and she said her Sebastopol Sandwich was her favorite out of the three visits. This was a good first experience for me at this popular downtown eatery and there are several dishes I would like to try on my return visit. Parking on Main Street is challenging. There is a public parking lot kitty corner to the restaurant and there is street parking around the corner, limited to 2 hours Monday - Saturday. read more

Partook in the tritip scramble - really a shaved steak offering - as well as the tuna salad. Both were large offerings and tasty as well. I've probably been here only five times cause I don't live that close. I love that they have gluten-free bread so I was able to have French toast with my bacon. BTW, the bacon is always spot on. So many places now have country potatoes, which I hate, these guys have real hashbrowns. I've been there twice in the last three weeks and the hashbrowns were cooked crispy the first time and just cooked OK the second. Still, I will be back, but I will make sure I say crispy hashbrowns. My server the first time in this set of visits was great, the second time definitely had attitude. The place is cute and comfy and I can usually find parking at the lot across the street. read more

This is hands down my favorite spot on all of Sebastopol. I know there are a ton of good places to go here but for my time and money, I eat out at Sunshine about 1/4 of the time! The owners are amazing - and will be serving and making your food, too! I love the relaxed atmosphere (RIP the parklet) and the hearty, delicious food. There's classic diner breakfast, lunch and dinner options along with crepes, some Mexican specialties and a slew of adult beverage offerings. My mother recommended that we come here and she said that my late father used to love the patty melt and french fries or maybe it was garlic french fries? I ended up having the Reuben sandwich in my companion had the patty melt. But he just had to have the onion rings. He said they were fantastic and I had to agree they were very very good. My Reuben sandwich was great, just slathered with sauce and grilled to perfection with very good tasting corned beef. They have such a wide range on their menu it's just awesome. And their prices are so affordable! It's amazing in this day and age when everything just seems to be going up and up. They somehow provide absolutely tasty and fantastic food, and provide a very enjoyable experience. You can dine inside in the dining coffee shop atmosphere, or if you prefer outside dining they have tables with umbrellas outdoors Street side so you can watch people as they walk by and enjoy the fresh air. Our server was I think one of the owners actually and she was so friendly and accommodating and she explained Each of the specials of the day. We did end up taking home a sample for my mother. She ended up ordering a patty melt and onion rings the next day to go and she said that they were the best onion rings she has ever had! She should know she's such a foodie!! This restaurant offers crispy hashbrowns and sunnyside up eggs done just right. I've actually eaten at only a few places that can make these breakfast items the way I like them. Sometimes the egg yolks are overcooked or covered with a white film from having a lid put over them, other times the yolks are broken, or the whites of the egg aren't done enough. Sometimes the hashbrowns are underdone inside and soggy, or replaced by home fries, which I detest. Here, both the eggs and potatoes were absolutely satisfying. Went there for lunch. The Rueben was really greasy, the fries soggy and fried in what tasted like old oil, but my major complaint is this. I asked how much a side of cole slaw would be as I didn't see it on the menu. The manager who waited on us said "about $3.00". When our food came I asked the waitress for the price as I wanted to order it. She went to check and came back with "$4.00". I ordered it and when the bill came it was $4.50! I should have stopped there and ask that it be changed to $4.00 but didn't. Plus it was a tiny little side bowl. We called ahead to see if they allowed dogs. When we go there we noticed that they only had tables for two outside. I asked the hostess she asked if it was a service dog, I said no. She quickly arranged a table close to the door for us. There were 11 of us. They took our drink order as soon as we were seated. Then came over and to our food order. The drinks came out then the food. Very fast service! My husband had a sunshine special I had a Main st favorite. The food was great and service was great too.
