So the original plan was to go to Sam's down the street. An hour wait pushed us to Brothers Café. After my last visit, I said I wouldn't go back. After today's visit, there's no way I'm going back. Today was my third visit. Visit one was several years ago and was pretty standard. Visit two, a couple years ago, I ordered the breakfast combo. I'm not sure I could've ordered less food. The portion size for the most expensive breakfast dish they had was unbelievably small. Four very small servings of random breakfast items. Visit three, today, brings us to the biscuits and gravy saga. Unfortunately we didn't go over the reviews of the biscuits and gravy. Here are my ratings: Short Rib Beef Sliders... 5/5. AMAZING!!! Juicy meat, toasted bun, caramelized onion. Chicken Flautas.... 5/5. Crispy, flavorful and they come with a yummy jalapeño jelly. Steak Nachos... 4/5. Juicy steak full of flavor, some kind of interesting sauce and homeade chips. (Chips didn't hold up well on the 5 minute drive to my house). Salmon Ceasar Salad... 1/5. Salmon tasted funny, was a little soft and they left the skin on. Ceasar Salad comes with chips and tomatoes which I asked for non of. So they only did lettuce and cheese. The restaurant had decided not to let you type modifications or I would have asked for croutons for the salad and the Salmon to be crispy. Chocolate Nutella and Strawberry Crepe... 5/5. Brothers Cafe is a unique and great addition to this part of Santa Rosa. I had heard this was a great place and now I know why! Brothers is run by the same folks who run "Hole In The Wall" in Sebastopol, which we've been loving for years. The menu is practically the same, so I can order my favorites like their "Hole In The Wall Scramble" and their Dutch Baby. The really funny part of this place is they have a Drive Thru counter. I'm not sure if you can order anything on the menu if you're driving through, but how funny that they kept that aspect of the place. The former resident of this building was a Burger King and then Zee's Diner. First, a big shout out to our server who was just so sweet and fun to talk with. I believe her name was Alex? The food was solid and just as good as it is in Sebastopol. Although, I should add that this isn't your typical Dutch Baby. A traditional Dutch baby would not have apples and cinnamon in it. In my experience, this would be a German Apple Pancake. Still 100% worth ordering and delicious! I also tried their Chilaquiles for the first time and really enjoyed this as well. We were driving through the area and we're a bit hungry so we decided to stop here at Brother café. It was a bit busy when we got there needed to wait about 20 minutes before we were seated customer service is great. we placed our drink orders they brought them over pretty fast. We went over the menu. Trying to decide if we wanted breakfast or lunch. There's a lot of selection. It's a bit overwhelming. The menu is pretty big. We finally made our decision placed. Our order. Waited about 10:00/15:00 minutes for our food. Everything was really good lots of flavor good presentation glad we found this place to try while in the area. Also a side note there was a homeless gentleman sitting in the doorway area and he was patiently waiting. For me, though we only visit on occasion, we go because it has a great neighborhood vibe and the interaction with regulars is enjoyable to watch. Most recently I ordered the French dip - bread was grilled but soft, onions and mushrooms were present but not overwhelming, the Swiss cheese perfectly melted, and the au jus flavorful ...but the meat was so so. The bummer part is that's the main part of the dish. (For old timers, Singletree Inn has ruined me for French Dips.) Hubby ordered a bacon burger and enjoyed it just fine. Fairly good experience. My mom and boyfriend had great meals, while my biscuits and gravy were lack luster. The pancakes were phenomenal and the burrito was flavorful, but the biscuits were crunchy and the mushroom gravy lacked flavor. I'd rather have to add salt and hot sauce to make something tasty than the opposite - so overpowering that I can't fix it at all. Service was hustling. My son and i came back to brothers cafe to try it again and this time it was better, but out of the three restaurants, i think i like the Sonoma diner a little better and your only thing i really could complain about is the fact they use those tiny take spoon size coffee creamer 1/2 n 1/2 cups. I recommend checking in on Yelp as you begin your experience as our server started out so so and after checking in he was suddenly checking in constantly. The gravy was a little on the watery side compared to the other two spots (This and Sonoma diner at owned by the Hole in the Wall cafe in sebastopol). The bacon was great and the scramble was good too. I like the windows in the place, it would be a convenient breakfast place to hop over ti if you were staying at the sandman hotel. read more

This review is much needed for an update. My daughter is in down visiting for the holidays. With all the running around, getting things ready we didn't have time to plan for a dinner. Didn't want to do any of the usuals, so I chose Brothers. Extremely friendly staff greeted us upon entry. We chose our seat and ordered some drinks. The menu is pretty extensive for a small restaurant and so many things sounded delicious. We all had the same issue. The poor waiter had to stop by a few times to see if we were ready. When we finally decided, I ordered the Reuben, fries and a cup of chicken vegetable soup. Wife ordered the "Hole in the wall" scramble. My daughter ordered the schnitzel sandwich w/ salad. As we waited for our food, MNF was on one of the TV's. There was a decent crowd in the restaurant when we arrived. Many of them cheering on the 49ers. The folks dissipated as they finished their meals, so it wasn't really a MNF crowd there to watch the game. Food showed up and everyone raved about their choices. I've been back a few times since my first review. Yes, this place is good. I did notice a change of ownership notice on the door. I hope nothing major changes. Visited Brothers Cafe on a Sunday morning. Never been here before so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try. We arrived around 9am. Once inside we were told to pick a table of our own. There were plenty of spots to choose from so we grabbed a sunny booth table. We were almost immediately greeted and got some drinks going. We ordered a green goddess juice and coffee. Soon after we got some food started as well, I ordered the funguy omelette with sourdough toast, my partner got the two eggs any style, scrambled, with bacon. Service was awesome! We were at the mall and decided to try this place for the first time since it's just a mile down Cleveland Avenue. We are familiar with Hole in the Wall and we knew this place would not disappoint with the top reviews it has been earning. As we approached the front doors, we were surprised to see that there were people waiting for a table on a Monday afternoon. The tables were indeed full but we were seated under the atrium windows within a couple minutes. A server asked us for our drink orders and he provided menus that were several pages long. The menu items look familiar to Hole in the Wall and so we anticipated that this place would serve up delicious food as well. We ordered the reuben with a side caesar salad and the chicken sandwich with a green salad. Meals were prepared quickly and delivered to our table. We both took a bite of our salads and wow, the greens were fresh and tasty. We really enjoyed our sandwiches as well. Mine had a nice portion of chicken and great flavor. The chicken was nice and juicy. I took half home and it tasted just as good on day 2. Since we were sitting under the atrium windows, it felt quite warm, but within 10 minutes, the a/c had kicked on and it was quite pleasant. Our server was friendly and attentive. We noticed all the employees hustle and work hard, including the manager, who walks around and picks up dishes and asks diners if we would like a coffee refill. What a find! This restaurant is tucked away off the highway and looks like it might have been a chain restaurant in a former life, but it features super friendly service, great food, and an interior decorated with paintings by local artists. We had the beet salad with citrus dressing, daily special of grilled chicken pistachio pesto sandwich, and Nutella crepe. Delish! read more

I ordered the chicken parmigiana off the "Daily Specials" menu. It took far too long to make. I should point out there were only 3 people in the restaurant- arriving after I ordered, so not busy at all... my waiter told me the cook did not know how to make Marinara Sauce and would take a bit longer. When the food finally arrived, the chicken was smothered in an orange sludge not recognised as any Marinara Sauce I had ever seen. The chicken was way overcooked and barely edible. Of note is the waiter who reduced the bill 50%. Note to management; if you advertise a dish (on the Daily Specials no less), useful to have kitchen staff who know how to cook.... all on offer. read more

This place is buzzing! Glad to see it thriving. I once tried to dine at the previous concept before it and left within 5 minutes because of the lack of service. Brothers Cafe is far from it. We were greeted who I think was an owner and quickly waited on by the attentive and friendly staff. I was unfortunately on a time restraint so had to quickly choose my meal and ordered a breakfast burrito with bacon. Overall the burrito is a typical breakfast burrito, ok size, tasted good. Second time here. I remember being a tad underwhelmed the first time but they were new then and I wanted to give them another try. The restaurant was nearly full when we arrived at 10:45 on Saturday morning. We were greeted and seated right away. This place has a ton of windows and no shades and unfortunately the sun was glaring right into my face but cest la vie. We perused the menu for a bit and then waited what felt like a very long time to have our order taken. My husband ended up flagging someone down. He got the ham Benedict, I went with the Hole in the Wall scramble. We were grateful when our food arrived pretty quickly. My husband appreciated that the eggs on his benedict were cooked exactly as ordered- fried over hard with a broken yolk (he can't stand runny eggs). The hollandaise was very well done, however the ham was the most flimsy, thin piece of deli ham I've ever seen. If you're not going to offer a thicker slice of ham, at least provide 3-4 slices of the deli ham. My scramble was good (though also had little squares of the very thin deli ham), eggs were cooked nicely. Both my husband's and my potatoes were cold when delivered and tasted off in a slight way- perhaps old oil. The (what I assume to be) housemade jam at the table was delicious. Though somewhat disappointed for the second time, we both saw some dishes at tables near us that looked far better. Perhaps there are other items on their menu that they truly excel at. I can't say that I would recommend this place necessarily, but I wasn't so unhappy that I would advise against it. I was looking around at other people's food and it all looked amazing I ordered the Ruben Sandwich because I saw other people eating burgers and they looked huge so I had high hopes. When I got it, it looked a little small for me. I'm used to Ruben's being packed with meat and sauerkraut. Some of the meat was tough & chewy, and some was soft and tender. Overall the flavor was good but I was hoping for more & the chewy meat kept getting stuck in my teeth. The fries were pretty good, what can I say? They're fries. My partner wasn't super hungry so he ordered the Nacho Fries. To me, they looked kind of crazy and soggy but he said he liked them. He said they were exactly what he was expecting but they were soggy due to all the toppings.
