The Ortega Burger was very good as were the garlic fries. I think they use garlic oil instead of fresh garlic. But they were tasty. In like that they were crinkle cut. We walked in without really reading the menu, assuming that since it's a diner we could get breakfast for dinner. Turns out, breakfast isn't served all day, and our daughter--who was really looking forward to pancakes--was pretty bummed. The cook, however, didn't hesitate at all. He was genuinely excited to fire up the grill and make her pancakes anyway, which completely made her night (and honestly ours too). That kind of kindness and extra effort really stood out. It's small, the edge of the meat was dry/over cooked, no cheese (?), the peppers and bun tasty. The fries are an extra add on; they were crispy and hot. Let me tell you, you will not be disappointed. These fries are the most perfectly crisp fries ever. I no longer care for McDonald's fries. This place makes their fries in fresh oil because I didn't taste any old oil taste in the fries, just perfectly freshly fried potatoes. Now let's get to the burger. I thought I loved In-n-Out, but I have discovered tonight's that I do not love In-n-out. If you love a pure truly great burger, no alterations, all American great cheeseburger, D's Diner is the place to go. Go give this place a try! My husband and I are on vacation and are trying different food that pops up on yelp with good reviews. We tried this place because it had good reviews and it not disappoint. The food is amazing! My husband had the potatoes with eggs over easy and pancakes. I tried the potatoes and I ordered my own side. They are so flavorful and buttery. The pancakes are so fluffy and moist. The owner was so nice and attentive. We felt very welcomed to be here we felt part of his family. The ambiance is a diner feel except it's on a strip mall but didn't feel that way. I want so much to like this place and have it as an alternative for my usual fish and chips places. It's close enough for me to walk to... and the people working there are so friendly and nice. The vibe of the place is great. But the fish and chips are barely average. Bummer. I decided to try again, since they were freshly opened last time I was there and I was thinking that maybe they were still getting up to speed when I ate there a year ago. The place has improved it's decorations a bit. The staff is still super friendly and attentive. It's still plain looking inside, but inviting... But the food was about the same... the main difference was a price increase. Same two pieces of fish... a bit fresher tasting this time but still right out of the freezer with some inscrutable crust. Same under-cooked krinkle-cut fries, ditto on the freezer comment. They do supply some odd tasting malt vinegar, but the tarter sauce is decent. Still no Cole slaw. I'll up the rating one star since the fish was not awful and old like last time, but calling the food average seems overly generous to me. Bummer! I eat fish and chips weekly, and D's could easily have become one of my regular stops. But the quality of the food just isn't up to par with the many other excellent choices here in Sonoma County. And the price is the same as every other place so that's not any added incentive to show up. I'll try again next year and see if things improve... but I'm not holding my breath. read more

It was SOOOOO good!! The service was amazing! I can't remember the lady's name, but she was super sweet and VERY attentive! I went with my son and we got the special (chilaquiles, one red with chorizo & one green with an over easy egg). They were so flavorful and filling. I felt like it was a great value for the price. They sent over some house made salsa that was so fresh and had a good kick to it, but not overpowering. The server & cook noticed my son's plate was a bit too spicy for him and offered to cool down the spice level for him. After that, he devoured it! The food 15/10 we had the chiliquiles which is not yet on the menu but was offered to us yesterday and even thou there were 10 different things we wanted to try we ordered the chiliquiles and then had to try some garlic French fries that were too!!!! The waitress was a sweetheart and the vibe there was awesome. The owner came out to let us sample his verde sauce as well and I have to say I'm literally going in today too with my hubs cause it was THAT good I have to take him now LOL this spot is gonna be a go-to for us. Stopped in for dinner with my son. It's clean, the hostess was friendly and the owner came out to chat with my son about his baseball game (he was in his uniform). It has a wonderful hometown feel and reminded me of the hospitality of the Sebastopol location I have frequented for years. Got the BLT, wonderfully seasoned, crispy bacon. We are very excited to have D's Diner here in Santa Rosa, CA. When it's super hard trying to decide what's for dinner, D's Diner has it covered. We've eaten many times at the Sebastopol Diner. So, we knew we were going to love having D's 10 minutes away. The food is delicious. The staff are all very kind and welcoming.
