I did not know what to expect from but WOW! I had such an amazing experience here. Came for a light lunch and thankfully it wasn't too busy yet. We were seated inside where we can see the kitchen and the food being made (there is also the option to sit outside). Our server Selvin was great. I asked for recommendations and he suggested the wontons which did not disappoint! He was very attentive and appreciated that he gave us time to look over the menu. The dishes we ordered were amazingly tasty! The wontons were perfectly golden brown on the outside and shrimp filling was very creamy. The fries, oh my! They were my favorite with dipping sauce. The steak was cooked to our liking. The mushroom and Chinese broccoli paired well with the sauce. Love the food - every time I visit Santa Rosa I make an effort to come here. Ordered the bone marrow, Dino short rib and matzah ball soup. Bone marrow portion was great however the marrow came out cold and I wish there was something more to cut the fat - more pickled slaw or crackers maybe? Dino short rib was amazing. Huge! Juicy! Flavor bomb galore. Bring your appetite, this thing is called dino short rib for a reason. Can def taste the smoky taste and it wasn't dry at all. I think the rib is smoked first and then sous-vide afterwards. Service was solid. Friendly staff and the hostess was able to seat us inside after we realized sitting outside was too cold for us. There is a good reason Bird and The Bottle is highly rated. The space is well curated and has a beautiful patio to enjoy those cool Santa Rosa evenings. I sat at the bar where there were only 3 others sitting there. It was a Sunday evening and there were still plenty of available tables around 7pm, I got a non alcoholic drink, Garnot Story. It was refreshing. I wasn't very hungry but there were so many opts that had a unique twist so, after speaking with the bartenders I decided on the Smokey Poke and the Chicken wings. The poke was super fresh, light, and had nuts which gave it another dynamic level of flavor and crunch. The chicken wings are full bone in wings including the drum stick part intact. I might just be me, but I love a fusion spot! This was such a fun spot that we swung into on our way to Mendocino county. Love the indoor and outdoor seating options. We got to sit at the chef's table which provided the best views of exporting and some cooking too. All the staff here seem to love their job and everyone is smiling! I love that! The food was pretty great too. The miso guacamole was handmade from fresh avocados right in front of us. I really enjoyed the fried salt and pepper octopus too. Great sauce accompaniment. Wow, this is Asian fusion done right! I wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood. I just realized that they're part of the Stark Reality restaurant group, which has a big presence in Sonoma County. We had also tried Grossman's Noshery & Bar from the same restaurant group and were happy with the food there. I also heard good things about their other restaurants, so it should not have been a surprise that we were also impressed with the food here. Food is served tapas style and honestly, all the dishes sound appetizing. On this visit, we tried a few dishes. I wish I came with a more empty stomach to try more things. We ordered their crispy maitake mushrooms, steamed local black cod, and grilled house-made lamb sausage. Everything was delicious! The crispy maitake mushrooms came with a fish sauce which gave a nice brightening note to eat with fried food. Lemon was also fried with them to help cut any grease, so overall this dish did not feel oily or heavy. The steamed local black cod's ginger scallion oil surprisingly paired very well with the black truffle pesto. It had an earthy flavor profile that was brightened by the ginger. The cod was perfectly cooked and the mushrooms soaked up all of that saucy goodness. I loved this dish! The grilled house-made lamb sausage was Thai inspired and you could definitely taste the spices in the sausage. I actually would've liked more of the tamarind BBQ sauce and basil salad on this dish to help counter the lamb's spiciness a bit, but I enjoyed the dish. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and came out quickly. The restaurant is housed in what looks like a historic house, so it was a very cozy environment. Bird & The Bottle has a really interesting menu that seems to blend American, Vietnamese, Jewish, and everything in between, as they use their wood-fired grill to deliver maximum flavor in their dishes. The Good: * Fantastic outdoor dining space * Reservations via OpenTable * Daily Happy Hour (HH) from 3-5 p.m. However, please note the website and OpenTable both say the HH menu is limited to certain dining areas, but I'm pretty sure we sat in the main dining room and they didn't have an issue with it. But, just sayin'... * HH drink prices are terrific, and they definitely don't hold back on the liquor. * And, speaking of HH, get that Pastrami Taco. Actually, get two. You won't be sorry. * Brews on tap, as well as the aforementioned full bar. * The Everything Greens dish was our everything, and that's saying something--because as good as everything else was, this dish was the highlight of the meal. A+++ get it. * BBQ'd Bone Marrow was, well, just look at those pics. Luscious comes to mind. If you've never had marrow before, then welcome to the club. * The SF "Style" Garlic Noodles might've been our second favorite dish behind the Everything Greens. The texture of the noodles and the deep, umami garlic flavor were spot on. I know it's really hectic during that time, but an almost thirty-minute wait for one taco and one drink is a bit much. However, once HH was over, the dishes started coming out at a much more expedient pace. The Ugly: * Parking can be a bit of a challenge, even with their shared parking lot, as we had to luck out and find a space on the street. Definitely be mindful of the signs in their shared lot, as some of the spots are reserved for other nearby businesses--and they will tow you according to the signs we saw. So be forewarned. Conclusion: If you're looking for one place in Santa Rosa to dine at, then this might be the one. I'm honestly surprised they're not at least Michelin-recommended. This place was a highlight of our overnight trip to Santa Rosa. John picked this place and I have to give him kudos. The food was outstanding and way better than I anticipated. My two favorite things were the Everything Greens and the Mayo Cake. Even the cocktail was outstanding (I rarely drink these days so it had to be good in order for me to drink a cocktail). The service was okay. Our table was kind of in a weird spot and I felt like our server kept forgetting about us. Also, he made it clear that he would have our starter come our first (bone marrow) and then have the other items come after. That didn't happen. But whatever. The food was so good that all was forgiven. I think coming at Happy Hour makes things a bit chaotic for the staff. The food and drinks during that time were very slow. Lets begin with their super awesome bar program. These guys know cocktails! Every drink mixed and poured is done with passion and love. We ordered a little gem salad and fries to split along with a burger each. I thought while the burger was good, it was small and for $17 without fries included seemed priced a little high. The fries were the bomb! Came with an onion type of dipping sauce which was delicious. We really enjoyed the gem salad too. It had a great vinaigrette dressing with sliced green apple and pecans. Driving back from Fort Bragg on my way into San Francisco. I decided to stop in the Santa Rosa area because I was starving. I knew immediately I needed to come here for an early supper upon looking for restaurants in the area. They definitely didn't disappoint. The cocktails are just so delicious. I had the Shiso Pretty and wow, this is a great cocktail with Grey Goose vodka, St. George spice pear, shiso drinking vinegar lime I ordered the skirt steak with the everything greens. I highly suggest having them together. I had ordered them separately when the server mentioned it was her favorite, and it seemed to be the favor of many of the staff at this restaurant. We ordered multiple dishes on the menu and the worst was by far the bone marrow which we were very excited to try, should've known what to expect when they served it with ranch seasoned saltines, bone marrow is already so fatty and rich it doesn't need much for it to shine, adding andouille and onion jam was doing way too much. The saving grace of the night was the edamame appetizer (which was still a tad over cooked), sticky rice, which was not sticky by the way (jasmine rice) and the steak that was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The style is small plates/tapas but we were so excited to find out that the portions were much more generous than other tapas places we'd been to. Both were unique and surprising- also the Easy Rider is basically two drinks in one!
