It's been many years since I've been here and I'm sooo glad I chose this spot for a little girls night. First off, the ambiance really sets the vibe here. Such a quaint little spot that feels homey and local. To start I ordered the strawberry hibiscus shrub soda and my oh my, I think I've rekindled my obsession with shrub sodas. Perfectly sweet, tarte, and refreshing. We ordered the house focaccia and shishito peppers to start and both nailed the spot. The focaccia was fluffy, flavorful, and not too dense. And the shishitos had a DELISH red sauce that I was scooping up with every bite. I ordered the gnocchi, which came with fresh tomatoes and was cooked to a really nice texture. My friend ordered the salmon dish and although she said it was on the smaller side she was hoping for, the flavors were well worth it. I hadn't been back for several years after I paid about $16 for a grilled octopus salad, which was nothing more than some scraps of oily lettuce and exactly two overcooked nickel sized slices of octopus. This place had always been wildly pretentious and catered to the hipsters, but in the beginning, their food was actually fantastic. My partner received a gift certificate from a colleague, so I thought we'd try again, and came for brunch. My hope was that the place had returned to the portions and quality of when they first opened, which were proportionate to the cost. Unfortunately, it has declined even further since the octopus incident. We ordered the baby pancake and the burger. The portions were spectacularly small for the pricepoint, and everything tasted underwhelming. The baby pancake was more of an over done, miniscule crepe, and the medium rare burger we ordered was well done, dry, and tiny. There is a process of waiting outside and ordering, which is confusing, unwelcoming, and downright strange. There is a reason that no other restaurants do this. Please knock it off. The service was just ok, and no one came to check on us after our mediocre food was served. Fortunately, all this experience cost us was the tip, and time we could have spent eating something substantial and leaving feeling full. Meh. It was a Saturday morning and we loved starting our day off eating brunch here. While visiting Santa Rosa I was checking Yelp and discovered this hidden neighborhood gem. Spinster Sisters got its name as the building was once a small Italian market called La Rose Market during the 1920's. Upstairs the parents raised their five daughters and two of them were seamstresses. Little is known about the two sisters except they never married and lived in the same apartment upstairs till their death. When the restaurant opened in 2012, they chose to honor these sisters and all women. Not a huge place, but does offer both indoor and garden dining. We sat inside near a big picture window. The location is on a quiet, artsy street and I felt like a local dining here. I learned after dining here that this area of town is SOFA Arts District. Chef/Owner Liza Hinman cooks up some unique and flavorful dishes here. She has been part of the Santa Rosa restaurant community since 2004. I went with Rancho Gordo Black Bean tostados. I added an egg too. This was a great meal. Just enough food but not over the top. Any time I can order a Mexican breakfast I do. I also enjoyed drinking a fun morning Mimosa. Service was provided by Wade and he was very informative about the restaurant and many of their dishes. They also serve dinner with reservations and I would love to return in the future. I had forgotten about this place. It's in an out-of-the-way part of town, but really, I think this spot is good enough to make it a destination on its own. Spinster Sisters is tucked into a little art neighborhood - South A or SoFa, and it really is a cool little area. I hadn't been since COVID, but a friend suggested it, and I was happy to return. It's a cute spot, with a nice indoor dining room and an attached patio that is also really sweet. Apparently they are just getting back to doing brunches and opening earlier, so I'll definitely have to come back for brunch on the patio soon. There was a group of four of us, and we did a tour of the menu. We started with a seasonal melon salad (with nuts and chevre and a little bit of spice) and the scallop ceviche. Both were quite tasty - and very fresh. They have a good wine list, and we found a tasty chardonnay that paired well with the starters. For main course, we had the gnocchi, roasted chicken, and their flat iron steak. All were nicely prepared. The gnocchi was delicious - delicate - if I had to guess I would say it was the french variety - nice and light. The chicken was nicely prepared and well presented with baby carrots (tasty, but perhaps a bit over cooked). The steak with au gratin potatoes and squash was also a hit. We didn't make it to desert, but their offerings were enticing - I think we had just filled ourselves with the entrees. Hats off to the staff for accommodating a friend with gluten intolerance - they were very supportive and prepared a nice alternate for them to ensure they fully enjoyed their meal. Great spot! Great service! Make it a point to give yourself a little extra time to explore the little art district too - it's a charming part of town, and nicely tucked away from downtown. This looks like an unassuming, neighborhood restaurant, but it was truly fantastic! Would definitely go back if I'm in the area again. My boyfriend and I ordered wine, the artichoke dip, mussels, tagliatelle, 1/2 chicken, and bread pudding. There was a good variety of wine to choose from and the waitress was nice enough to give me a couple samples before ordering a full glass. We were surprised by the lemon / tangy flavor in the artichoke dip but really enjoyed it! We LOVED the mussels--this was a generous serving, and this was a great combination with the broth and sausage. The tagliatelle was clearly homemade and fresh, and the sauce was flavorful but light; the only thing I would change is the amount of peas / pea flavor. The chicken skin was perfectly crispy! Lastly, the bread pudding was literally baked fresh to the point where we almost couldn't order it. The staff told us it would be a bit of a wait, but when it took a little longer than expected, they continued to check in on us and whether we still wanted to wait. It was definitely worth it! It wasn't as sweet / cinnamon-y as other bread puddings that I've had, but was moist without being soggy and felt like a true homemade recipe. A cute farm to table place in Santa Rosa. Had to wait about 30-40 min for a group on a Saturday night so would recommend a reservation especially for larger groups. They have a frequently changing menu, with limited vegetarian or pescatarian options. We ended up getting the scallops, which I think were too salty, but otherwise had interesting textures. Focaccia was warm, crisp on the outside, and quite flavorful and nicely chewy and fluffy on the inside, so I'd recommend that. Service was good at refilling water but in general was quite slow with bringing out food and the check. Cute space, it is relatively loud inside, but we did not feel rushed throughout the meal. I'd say definitely on the pricey side, especially for small portions. I wouldn't return if I were in the area but maybe with a different menu we'd have a better experience. read more

I came here for Valentine's Day dinner and was worried this restaurant was all hype but was glad to report it was amazing! The staff was very attentive even though they were extremely busy. We started with the burrata and house made focaccia, both tasted so fresh melted in your mouth. For entrees we got the lamb shoulder with polenta and the butternut squash gnocchi pasta dish. WOW. The lamb was so delicious and the pasta complimented it perfectly. As you can tell by the pictures it was so good we couldn't wait to way it. When I arrived, the process for getting admitted was weird and off putting. Instead of being brought to a table and given a menu, you have to order outside. There's no comfortable way to go over the menu while sipping on coffee. This was about as inviting as a McDonalds. I left after a few minutes. read more

We made a dinner reservation for 6:30pm on a Friday. It's a small place and seemed pretty full when we arrived, so I'd definitely recommend reserving online beforehand. The interior is cozy and cute, nice and warm compared to the chill outdoors. We were greeted upon entry and service continued to be friendly and attentive throughout the meal. My boyfriend ordered the Scottish steelhead and I ordered the butternut squash gnocchi. We also ordered the focaccia to start, which was very tasty! The gnocchi had a pretty mild flavor and I wouldn't have minded a little bit of salt, but overall it was pretty good. I enjoyed the pieces of squash and the hazelnuts. The steelhead was tasty as well, though my boyfriend noted the portion was a bit smaller than expected. Overall this was a nice dining experience and a cute date night spot. An absolutely delightful dinner in the garden! Everything was extremely fresh and very tasty. I appreciated the N.A. drink selection as well (I loved Ellie's N.A. cider). Dessert Bittersweet Chocolate Torte - Rich chocolate with vanilla mousseline and wafer biscuit. Excellent, though would have benefited from a finishing salt like Maldon. Service Notes Service was prompt but rushed. Courses arrived immediately after clearing the previous one with no breathing room. The server brought the anniversary dessert with a candle while I was in the restroom. Water wasn't consistently refilled. The server was kind but seemed shy and eager to close up for the evening. Value Total: $191.40 before tip. I suppose the pricing feels on par for Santa Rosa in 2025, but wow. Definitely the most we have ever paid for an anniversary meal. Overall A memorable anniversary meal with exceptional food, particularly the black cod. Saturday May 9, the day before Mothers Day was the perfect way to avoid the hordes. Served weekends, brunch hours are from 9:30 am to 2 pm. Set in a residential area near Juilliard Park, the ambiance is that of a neighborhood haunt. At 10:30 am, we were given an inside table (the outside area will be open later). Drink portions are huge. My caffe latte was served in a quasi bowl--enough for two of us. My wife had the Dutch baby pancake, while I had the Old fashioned eggs your way. These were served with a healthy hash (diced veggies and potatoes pan roasted) and toast with house made mixed berry jam. The pancake was served with an egg, fruit, and lemon curd spread (on the side). We ordered the house made focaccia cinnamon roll to go. I must mention the extraordinary service. "No request too great," seemed to be our server's motto. Requests for splitting the latte, serving some items on the side, or inquiring about additional matters were handled with professionalism and kindness. The timing of the meal was perfect. It has been a while since we have been to Spinster Sisters but very much reminded of why we like this place so much. The food is top notch and very flavorful and uses the current fresh harvests that are available. If you want to go plant based that is very easy to do as well. Service was always excellent and continues to be. I personally love sitting at the bar for dinner as you get to see everything that is going on, but the outside is lovely as is the regular inside seating. If you have not been, go try it out. This restaurant has been our annual tradition every time we come to Santa Rosa. Overall, flavors have always been solid, albeit a bit pricey. I tend to prefer their smaller dishes, as I think it's a better value. We got their pork tenderloin, which was a bit disappointing. Their chard artichoke and cauliflower steak were good though. One of our favorite Santa Rosa restaurants. They are very community oriented and serve what is preached in Sonoma County's Farm to Table ethic. Weds., early eve, we five ate outside in their beautiful setting and we were graciously and efficiently served a fine array of nourishing food/delicious cuisine. The staff is upbeat yet not giddy nor pushy. They truly aim to please. Rarely eating a cheeseburger, I do prefer cheddar to pimento cheese and served on a toasted brioche - no problem! A Gem Worth the Drive: The Spinster Sisters Made Our Trip My husband and I were staying out of town at the Astro Motel in Santa Rosa and took advantage of their stay-and-eat option, which included a credit at The Spinster Sisters. We thought, "Sure, let's give it a try." What we didn't expect was to be completely blown away. We opted for a variety of small plates, and every single dish was a standout. I mean every one, even the cherry salad, which surprised me the most. I usually skip fruit in salads, but these tart cherries were magic, bright, balanced, and made the greens sing. And then there were the ribs. Sticky, deeply flavorful, with just the right amount of char. Absolutely unforgettable. My husband and I both agreed: The Spinster Sisters alone is worth the two-hour drive. It's that special. We dined in their garden, which was beautifully maintained and added an extra touch of magic to the evening. The neighborhood around the restaurant is quaint and charming, and the service was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. If you're anywhere near Santa Rosa, or even if you're not, this spot should be on your list. It's more than a meal. It's an experience. read more

this was the best find when we moved here. fell in love with the space, the food, and the staff, but we're wondering if there's been a change in the kitchen. we went for brunch not long after they started up again and the food was not only mediocre, but 2 of the 4 dishes at our table were almost room temp. we went back again recently for dinner and again, mediocre. my wife ordered a steak dish and the steak was cool at best. she sent it back and they returned the dish with steak that was badly prepared and was purple, third time it was fine, but the rest of our table had finished their meal by that point. i had a chicken dish and while the chicken itself was cooked well, the rest of the dish was pretty bland. unfortunately the best dish out of the 4 of us was our daughters butter noodles. i only ate half my chicken and asked to take the rest to go, but we ended up having dessert and the server never brought my to go box. i completely forgot about it until i was on my way home. i thought maybe they'd offer some kind of concession for the issue, but nothing. i really do love this place and ill give it another shot, but its too expensive to eat out these days and to have this kind of experience at this cost... hmmm, if i have the same experience on another visit i might need to wait until something improves in their kitchen. read more

The Spinster Sisters always delivers. You have a choice of indoor tables, a large comfortable bar or the outdoor Garden area. Last night we chose the bar and enjoyed a great dinner. We like to sit at the right side of the bar to watch the kitchen prepare and deliver meals. We started with a plate of braised Romano beans with tomato, pancetta and basil. Delicious and a great start. Entrees were halibut with fava and pea hummus, fragola, pea tendrils, mint and spicy oil. The other entree was roast chicken with fingerling potatoes, spring onions, salsa verde and roasted jus. Also ordered the Mac and Cheese as a side. Both entrees and the Mac were a big yum, very well prepared. Service here is always exceptional, friendly and helpful. For beverages my wife had a Pinot Blanc and I went with a dark lager beer. Best meal we've had in a long time! Service was exceptional, with the perfect amount of attention to detail and attentiveness. Food was paced at a great and enjoyable rate. I only took the one photo because I was fully immersed in the moment enjoying our meal, but when the crème puff was placed the lighting was undeniable. The crème puffed texture reminded me of amaretti cookie, which was moist and sponge dense, filled with a rhubarb compote, topped with an orange blossom chantilly, in a base of, what I'm calling, a marzipan gazpacho. Every element was divine and perfect with an espresso to finish the evening wonderfully. Thanks for an amazing Mother's Day meal, especially when we got a night out without the little one! Located on the corner of an residential area, this restaurant is so versatile. They provide cozy indoor dining (intimate setting), bar seating (more casual) and then outdoor garden (intimate/casual). We went with the garden around 6pm, perfect weather + wonderful seating area. The staff was wonderful, gave us great recommendations and were very attentive to our needs! The menu supposedly changes pretty often but we loved all our food choices! Our orders - Roasted carrot salad: I'm a basically salad guy (Cesar, Cobb) but this salad was the bomb! The roasted carrots really made this dish shine! - Ricotta + chard gnudi - Pan roasted chicken thigh with chickpeas: the chickpeas provided a great carb substitute that was both filling and flavorful, chicken thigh was tender and juicy - pistachio baklava cheesecake THIS ITEM IS A MUST! The crunch, creaminess, and sweetness all measured to perfection. Contemplated a second piece but knew it wouldn't have been able to replace the first taste.
