This looks like an unassuming, neighborhood restaurant, but it was truly fantastic! Would definitely go back if I'm in the area again. My boyfriend and I ordered wine, the artichoke dip, mussels, tagliatelle, 1/2 chicken, and bread pudding. There was a good variety of wine to choose from and the waitress was nice enough to give me a couple samples before ordering a full glass. We were surprised by the lemon / tangy flavor in the artichoke dip but really enjoyed it! We LOVED the mussels--this was a generous serving, and this was a great combination with the broth and sausage. The tagliatelle was clearly homemade and fresh, and the sauce was flavorful but light; the only thing I would change is the amount of peas / pea flavor. The chicken skin was perfectly crispy! Lastly, the bread pudding was literally baked fresh to the point where we almost couldn't order it. The staff told us it would be a bit of a wait, but when it took a little longer than expected, they continued to check in on us and whether we still wanted to wait. It was definitely worth it! It wasn't as sweet / cinnamon-y as other bread puddings that I've had, but was moist without being soggy and felt like a true homemade recipe. I had forgotten about this place. It's in an out-of-the-way part of town, but really, I think this spot is good enough to make it a destination on its own. Spinster Sisters is tucked into a little art neighborhood - South A or SoFa, and it really is a cool little area. I hadn't been since COVID, but a friend suggested it, and I was happy to return. It's a cute spot, with a nice indoor dining room and an attached patio that is also really sweet. Apparently they are just getting back to doing brunches and opening earlier, so I'll definitely have to come back for brunch on the patio soon. There was a group of four of us, and we did a tour of the menu. We started with a seasonal melon salad (with nuts and chevre and a little bit of spice) and the scallop ceviche. Both were quite tasty - and very fresh. They have a good wine list, and we found a tasty chardonnay that paired well with the starters. For main course, we had the gnocchi, roasted chicken, and their flat iron steak. All were nicely prepared. The gnocchi was delicious - delicate - if I had to guess I would say it was the french variety - nice and light. The chicken was nicely prepared and well presented with baby carrots (tasty, but perhaps a bit over cooked). The steak with au gratin potatoes and squash was also a hit. We didn't make it to desert, but their offerings were enticing - I think we had just filled ourselves with the entrees. Hats off to the staff for accommodating a friend with gluten intolerance - they were very supportive and prepared a nice alternate for them to ensure they fully enjoyed their meal. Great spot! When I arrived, the process for getting admitted was weird and off putting. Instead of being brought to a table and given a menu, you have to order outside. A cute farm to table place in Santa Rosa. Had to wait about 30-40 min for a group on a Saturday night so would recommend a reservation especially for larger groups. They have a frequently changing menu, with limited vegetarian or pescatarian options. We ended up getting the scallops, which I think were too salty, but otherwise had interesting textures. Focaccia was warm, crisp on the outside, and quite flavorful and nicely chewy and fluffy on the inside, so I'd recommend that. Service was good at refilling water but in general was quite slow with bringing out food and the check. Cute space, it is relatively loud inside, but we did not feel rushed throughout the meal. I'd say definitely on the pricey side, especially for small portions. I wouldn't return if I were in the area but maybe with a different menu we'd have a better experience. read more

I came here for Valentine's Day dinner and was worried this restaurant was all hype but was glad to report it was amazing! The staff was very attentive even though they were extremely busy. We started with the burrata and house made focaccia, both tasted so fresh melted in your mouth. For entrees we got the lamb shoulder with polenta and the butternut squash gnocchi pasta dish. WOW. The lamb was so delicious and the pasta complimented it perfectly. As you can tell by the pictures it was so good we couldn't wait to way it. We made a dinner reservation for 6:30pm on a Friday. It's a small place and seemed pretty full when we arrived, so I'd definitely recommend reserving online beforehand. The interior is cozy and cute, nice and warm compared to the chill outdoors. We were greeted upon entry and service continued to be friendly and attentive throughout the meal. My boyfriend ordered the Scottish steelhead and I ordered the butternut squash gnocchi. We also ordered the focaccia to start, which was very tasty! The gnocchi had a pretty mild flavor and I wouldn't have minded a little bit of salt, but overall it was pretty good. I enjoyed the pieces of squash and the hazelnuts. The steelhead was tasty as well, though my boyfriend noted the portion was a bit smaller than expected. Overall this was a nice dining experience and a cute date night spot. The combination of bitter greens, salty umami tapenade, and perfectly pan-fried sweet cod was unforgettable. Dessert Bittersweet Chocolate Torte - Rich chocolate with vanilla mousseline and wafer biscuit. Excellent, though would have benefited from a finishing salt like Maldon. Service Notes Service was prompt but rushed. Courses arrived immediately after clearing the previous one with no breathing room. The server brought the anniversary dessert with a candle while I was in the restroom. Water wasn't consistently refilled. The server was kind but seemed shy and eager to close up for the evening. Value Total: $191.40 before tip. I suppose the pricing feels on par for Santa Rosa in 2025, but wow. Definitely the most we have ever paid for an anniversary meal. Saturday May 9, the day before Mothers Day was the perfect way to avoid the hordes. Served weekends, brunch hours are from 9:30 am to 2 pm. Set in a residential area near Juilliard Park, the ambiance is that of a neighborhood haunt. At 10:30 am, we were given an inside table (the outside area will be open later). Drink portions are huge. My caffe latte was served in a quasi bowl--enough for two of us. My wife had the Dutch baby pancake, while I had the Old fashioned eggs your way. These were served with a healthy hash (diced veggies and potatoes pan roasted) and toast with house made mixed berry jam. The pancake was served with an egg, fruit, and lemon curd spread (on the side). We ordered the house made focaccia cinnamon roll to go. I must mention the extraordinary service. "No request too great," seemed to be our server's motto. Requests for splitting the latte, serving some items on the side, or inquiring about additional matters were handled with professionalism and kindness. The timing of the meal was perfect. The food is top notch and very flavorful and uses the current fresh harvests that are available. If you want to go plant based that is very easy to do as well. This restaurant has been our annual tradition every time we come to Santa Rosa. Overall, flavors have always been solid, albeit a bit pricey. I tend to prefer their smaller dishes, as I think it's a better value. We got their pork tenderloin, which was a bit disappointing. Their chard artichoke and cauliflower steak were good though. this was the best find when we moved here. fell in love with the space, the food, and the staff, but we're wondering if there's been a change in the kitchen. we went for brunch not long after they started up again and the food was not only mediocre, but 2 of the 4 dishes at our table were almost room temp. we went back again recently for dinner and again, mediocre. my wife ordered a steak dish and the steak was cool at best. she sent it back and they returned the dish with steak that was badly prepared and was purple, third time it was fine, but the rest of our table had finished their meal by that point. i had a chicken dish and while the chicken itself was cooked well, the rest of the dish was pretty bland. unfortunately the best dish out of the 4 of us was our daughters butter noodles. i only ate half my chicken and asked to take the rest to go, but we ended up having dessert and the server never brought my to go box. i completely forgot about it until i was on my way home. i thought maybe they'd offer some kind of concession for the issue, but nothing. i really do love this place and ill give it another shot, but its too expensive to eat out these days and to have this kind of experience at this cost... hmmm, if i have the same experience on another visit i might need to wait until something improves in their kitchen. read more

One of our favorite Santa Rosa restaurants. They are very community oriented and serve what is preached in Sonoma County's Farm to Table ethic. Weds., early eve, we five ate outside in their beautiful setting and we were graciously and efficiently served a fine array of nourishing food/delicious cuisine. The staff is upbeat yet not giddy nor pushy. They truly aim to please. Rarely eating a cheeseburger, I do prefer cheddar to pimento cheese and served on a toasted brioche - no problem! My husband and I both agreed: The Spinster Sisters alone is worth the two-hour drive. It's that special. I only took the one photo because I was fully immersed in the moment enjoying our meal, but when the crème puff was placed the lighting was undeniable. The crème puffed texture reminded me of amaretti cookie, which was moist and sponge dense, filled with a rhubarb compote, topped with an orange blossom chantilly, in a base of, what I'm calling, a marzipan gazpacho. We like to sit at the right side of the bar to watch the kitchen prepare and deliver meals. We started with a plate of braised Romano beans with tomato, pancetta and basil. Delicious and a great start. Entrees were halibut with fava and pea hummus, fragola, pea tendrils, mint and spicy oil. The other entree was roast chicken with fingerling potatoes, spring onions, salsa verde and roasted jus. Also ordered the Mac and Cheese as a side. Both entrees and the Mac were a big yum, very well prepared. Service here is always exceptional, friendly and helpful. For beverages my wife had a Pinot Blanc and I went with a dark lager beer. They probably could have been more attentive, I'm saying this because I had to ask for my water to be refilled. Maybe it's because we were sitting outside, I'm really not sure. Food itself was very tasty. It was burger night, so we had to try that & it was very good considering it was $28 served with fries & a pickle. We ordered a variety of foods to taste & they were all good. My favorite was the substitute Lemon Tart for dessert. It replaced their mousse on the menu & I'm glad we tried it because it was delicious. Parking can be difficult because it's only street parking.
