Occasionally we will take a train ride up to Windsor just to have lunch at KC's American Kitchen. I have never had a bad meal here. Their shakes are supper yummy, and if you like cole slaw their's is particularly good. This time I was going to get their Ceasars Salad, but they had a Salmon Ceasars Salad special. The Salmon was cooked perfectly and very very tasty. It was especially good. My husband had the Audrey Hepburn Sandwich. He gave it a thumbs up, and said the fries were good too. A nice diner with a good menu. Service is exceptional. Our server was quick and checked just enough to ensure we had all we needed. Menu had a variety of sandwiches, burgers, some salads and a lot of snacks. Had the pulled pork quesadilla- good pork. My husband enjoyed it a lot. The teriyaki burger which was good. It was a very chilly Sunday morning after J Vineyards' Christmas party the night before, and we slept through our complimentary breakfast at our hotel lol So I checked my trusty Yelp app to see what looks good with good reviews, and bing bada boom, KC's American Kitchen, so the decision was made. The ambience here has a diner vibe, with lots of old Hollywood pictures and memorabilia. Service was prompt and came with a smile. I ordered the bacon, avocado with pepper jack cheese omelette. Hubby ordered over-easy eggs with maple sausage and a biscuit. Hubby loved the maple sausages, plus his perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, and the biscuit was darn tasty. He also ordered a mocha and loved it all. My omelet was very good, not chintzy with the cheese or the bacon, the bread option included this raspberry coffee cake and thank you very much delish. This diner is so adorable and has great food. My mom and I went here after we drove back from a winding road in healdsburg and we were both a bit nauseous. We rolled in ~16 deep without a reservation and they handled us like pros! The food was wonderful, and the service was even better! I ordered a "I love animals" burger, and my daughter ordered a "sassy waitress" sandwich. Both were well prepared, but what really impressed me was that they had our orders in quickly, and we were all eating in ~15 minutes time. We came out early on a cold, rainy weekday morning. We had our little dog, so we sat on the patio, but found the outdoor space to be warm and actually comfortable even though the weather was not. I ordered one of the potato pancake meals: "loaded potato pancake" on the menu. I've got to say I think I would've been happier with just the side of hashbrowns. I was hoping that my order would've been nice and crispy, but sadly it wasn't. I wasn't too impressed with the potato pancakes. The bacon was tasty, but really chewy. I'm a crisp bacon type of gal. My husband ordered the waffle and it was absolutely delicious. The flavor was so yummy. My potato pancakes came with a choice of bread and I decided I would choose the biscuit. Big mistake. It was super weird flavored. It was a drop biscuit, not a traditional biscuit. I flagged down a server and she graciously, and cheerfully took the biscuit back and brought me rye toast. If we ever come back, it would be for the waffle alone, and that's the only reason why I gave it three stars. read more

Been here a few times for lunch and have always had a pretty good experience. Yesterday the husband and I decided to try their breakfast offerings. The restaurant was packed on a busy Saturday morning but we were able to snag a table inside. I love their outdoor covered patio, they have a great fire pit out there. They have a wide breakfast offering with menu items that are very unique. My husband decided on the Hillbilly Benedict (biscuit, sausage patty, egg, and sausage gravy) and I went for the Big Boss Benedict (English muffin, ham, avocado, egg, and hollandaise). Both were served with county potatoes (hashbrowns or fruit are also options). The food was delicious, however my poached eggs were way overcooked which was a big disappointment as I love a runny egg. The hollandaise was a tad thin but had great flavor. My husband loved his meal and cleared his plate. Service was attentive and friendly throughout. The ambiance is fun with lots of decor to look at. We tried this place out when we stayed at a timeshare in Windsor. The food was really good and I liked that they had a local food to try.

Went here yesterday for lunch with a friend and his wife who raved about the Haddock in the "Big Fish and Chips." I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak as my friend also loves those but hasn't tried it yet. He was a bit disappointed with his fish as compared to his prior trip it spent a bit too long in the fryer and was thus a bit dry. He deemed the fries good as was the cole slaw which I also had and also found it good. My Philly Cheesesteak had a very nice bun, which is good as the $18 sandwich is mostly bread with very little else. The meat, cheese and veggie portion should be doubled; especially at this price. Service was friendly and fast, we sat outside in the heated space which is actually larger than the retro vibe interior. Don't think I will be returning and not sure he will be either as there is better Fish and Chips at Betty's in Santa Rosa and I've had better sandwiches at Santa Rosa food trucks. read more

I want to love this place! I love the ambiance, and always, the service is great! The location is lovely! But I'm striking out on the food. Once I ordered the meatloaf sandwich; it was beautiful presentation but it was dry and without flavor. It's served open face, no sauce on the bread, mashed potato's grilled onions and a BBQ sauce drizzle... each layer is dry and flavorless. Even the grilled onions don't have any flavor. The only flavor was from the BBQ sauce garnish. Today, I tried the Steak and Bleu ( tri-tip and Bleu cheese) sandwich, it comes with grilled onions again it was dry and flavorless; maybe some aioli? Or some seasoning? The tri tip was well done and then reheated in a flat grill surface from the looks of the meat. Again it is great presentation, fantastic service, but the food is bland, REALLY bland; I have tried twice in the last month.. I am afraid I won't be back, which really is unfortunate, I really wanted to love it! read more

My sandwich came with French Fries. The fries were nice and crispy on the edges but soft in the middle. Perfect! Hollywood Cobb Salad: A Hollywood tradition since 1942. Mixed salad greens topped with sliced chicken breast, avocado, Bleu cheese crumbles, bacon, tomato & chopped egg. Choice of dressings - Ranch, 1,000 Island, Bleu Cheese, Honey Mustard, or Basalmic Vinaigrette dressing. This was a fairly large and tasty salad. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. The Cilantro Mango dressing was very delicious! The portion size was pretty good on all the things we ordered. My only complaint would be that it was smoky in the restaurant. It was like the kitchen vent/exhaust fan was not working that well. It was coming from the cooks making all the delicious food for us diners or takeout. Great ambiance, service, and food! I've been here a few times with coworkers for brunch or lunch and it's never been a miss. Dining with big groups can sometimes be tough but KC's delivers good service for large parties effortlessly. Today I went for a Denver omelet. Super hearty and filling. The orange juice is to die for. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The only thing I wish is that the menu was more specific for people with dietary restrictions (i.e., gluten free, vegetarian). I enjoyed the covering of the sun and also the nice breeze in their outdoor seating area. I got the sourdough Dave burger and this was surprisingly good, I was unsure about the side of mustard sauce but it was delicious! I enjoyed the sourdough because it didn't make me feel too full. I was able to order it with sweet potato fries which I was happy about and we finished off with a chocolate dessert to share between the 3 of us and I left feeling filled up! KC's American Kitchen is powered by two things: the Windsor locals and the staff who deserve medals, raises, and possibly a parade. Our server was great -- efficient, warm, and working with the kind of professionalism that single-handedly keeps this restaurant's reputation afloat. The regulars were cheerful, loyal, and clearly the beating heart of this place. If the experience ended there, I'd be writing a love letter. But then the food arrived, and it became painfully obvious that the ownership has entered a long-term relationship with portion control that borders on performance art. I ordered the hash browns ($4.95) and a fruit bowl ($8.50). Two simple breakfast items. Nothing outrageous. What I received could only have been conceived by someone in management gazing solemnly into a spreadsheet and deciding fruit must be dispensed in homeopathic quantities. The hash browns were tiny enough (about as much at a fast food place for $1) to make me wonder if the kitchen was running a pilot program for potato conservation. But the fruit bowl? That was the moment I realized I was witnessing a philosophical statement disguised as breakfast. A few underripe, crunchy melon cubes and exactly three grapes. Not "a small bunch." Not "a handful." But three. Placed with the drama of a museum exhibit titled Still Life With Disappointment. And through all of this, the staff delivered everything with kindness and grace, as if they weren't being forced to present portions so small they should come with a magnifying glass. I didn't complain -- not because I enjoyed the meal, but because the staff clearly had nothing to do with these decisions. They're out there performing hospitality heroics with ingredients that suggest an ownership overdose of penny-pinching. KC's has the soul of a great restaurant, thanks to its people. But the portioning and pricing are unmistakably the work of management, and it shows in every underwhelming, overpriced bite. I won't be returning until ownership changes something -- whether it's leadership, philosophy, or their fear of fruit. The locals and staff deserve better. So do customers. I've been here several times over the years when in the area and keep forgetting to review. KC's is elevated diner food with a fun, retro vibe. Located right off Windsor town green, there is plenty of free street parking. If you come on off hours; there's usually no wait. There is also a spacious outdoor patio with space heaters. Service is usually pretty prompt. I first tried them out when I saw that they had quite a few vegetarian options. I found my go to with their garden wrap-fresh veggies, avocado and mozzarella. It comes with fries but you can upgrade to a salad or sweet potato fries. It's always well made with fresh veggies. They also have burgers, salads, hot sandwiches and more. It's a simple menu but the decor is fun and it's always reliably good. Great choice when dining in Windsor. read more
