Came to KC's after the fabulous farmers market in Windsor, it was 11:10 but they don't serve lunch until after 11:45. Ordered breakfast instead, requested a mimosa with cranberry instead of orange juice, was told they don't do that, I could order a bellini instead, but I didn't want sweet peach or strawberry juice, ok I'll take the orange juice, first time in 40 years of ordering mimosas that happened. Ordered the potato cakes with poached eggs, supposedly their specialty, the eggs were hard poached and the potato cakes were mushy except for the edges, definitely not cooked enough. Pretty good buttermilk biscuit on the side but the rest of the meal was not good. I'd had a crab cake sandwich there once before that was 90% filler and 10% crab, was thinking maybe that was a fluke, but after today's breakfast I won't be returning. read more

After a morning walk at the nearby lake park, we stopped in here for a quick bite to eat. I had been here in the way distant past and remembered it being very lackluster, but hearing they had new owners recently, we decided to give them a go anyway. When we arrived, we were one of just a few parties in the building despite it being peak breakfast time. We were seated promptly and looked over the menus. I was excited about their "famous" potato pancakes and was hopeful that with them being "famous" they would also be delicious or well made. I was sorely mistaken. Our server Devon took our order and hubby ordered the Double Wide Trailer Works with over easy eggs and raspberry streusel ($17.50). I ordered the American potato cakes with applesauce instead of eggs (because I was hoping for a sort of latke-ish experience), and the streusel as well ($14.50). While we waited for our food to come out, we checked out the kitschy decor which I don't hate in a diner, however I thought it was dusty, items were coming off the wall and hanging by screws out of the drywall, and it just seemed in poor taste. Our food took a super long time given that the kitchen (which we could see clearly from our table) was very well-staffed, and the other tables had all eaten by this time. Once the food came out, I knew we were in for a problem. When Devon dropped the potato cakes on the table, they sort of squished around, and it was clear to us before I even cut into them that they were raw and uncooked inside. I cut into them anyway, hoping I was wrong since these were their "famous" items, and how could they become "famous" if they couldn't cook them well? Well, I was right, and they were a juicy mush inside, completely wet and slimy and not edible at all. Hubby's breakfast was a horrible oily mess and not well seasoned, and the "raspberry streusel coffee cake" was so dry, clearly artificially pink flavored/colored, that there was not a thing they served us that we wanted to eat. Devon came by at one point and I told her their "famous" pancakes were not cooked at all, and she made a sort of halfhearted shrug but didn't take the plate away. I wonder if that's because she knew they were not cooked or if they came out this way enough, it just didn't faze her anymore. Regardless, I didn't eat it, and left feeling grossed out rather than satisfied by my breakfast. Ultimately, we ended up going down the street to the amazing Cafe Noto and having a second chance breakfast there which was a massive improvement, and where we should have gone in the first place. Quick service open seating in or on patio which is nice even in a light rain. Plenty to look at on walls and tables. The menu provides for a good variety and the food is great. Some of my favorite dishes are the vegetarian burger, eggs, French toast, and grilled cheese. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait, and the prices are kind of high, but I still recommend KC's. Appeared and handled our table as tho harried. Placed order: Ham & Cheese Omelette, (with hash browns) Waffle Combo. Qualified egg order to over medium. The waitress answers before I could get my statement out..."oh yeah, I completely trust my kitchen staff". Ordered toast..."toasty...not untoasted and limp. (Mm hmm. I received what I requested not). Mm hmm. Our order was served in less than four minutes. FOUR minutes!! Net result: The omelette was cool, with unmelted cheese. Hash browns warm on the inside , ( not hot). Waffles a bit overcooked but edible. Eggs...over HARD, and not to order. Toast...limp. Our table was left unattended for the duration as the server spent much time at a pub-table with patrons that offered levity and conversation and our table with no water service, not inquiry as to how our meal was...until the server presented the check . Joined some friends for lunch; haven't been here in a few years! Got there early for lunch (a bit too early, lunch is served after 11:45am) but we were quickly seated in the deck area and relaxed a bit before ordering. The deck is nice and airy, and they have sun shades to keep the heat down. The kitchen opened a little early to accommodate orders for lunch (thank you!) as there were a couple of groups ready for lunch, and we were off and running! We ordered mainly lunch items, but one breakfast dish, the Huevos Locos. Lunch items were the Buffalo chicken wrap, Asian crispy chicken salad and the grilled pesto veggie sandwich with a side salad instead of fries (extra$2). The huevos locos are three eggs scrambled with chopped corn tortillas, Ortega green chiles, avocado & tomato and smothered in melted cheddar cheese AND topped with sour cream & salsa. Sooooo yummy! The chicken wrap was nicely presented and tasty. It includes crispy and spicy Buffalo chicken wrapped with lettuce, tomato, hard-boiled egg, red onion, bleu cheese crumbles & dressing. The chicken was moist and smothered in sauce, and ell wrapped. A side of fries was chosen (French fries or potato salad are options, or swap your fries for onion rings, sweet potato fries, garlic fries or green salad, extra $2). The Asian chicken salad (sliced crispy chicken on top of a salad of mixed greens, cabbage, carrots & green onions and tossed in a sweet-spicy Asian dressing, then sprinkled with roasted almonds & crunchy noodles) was a plate full of colors, textures and flavors. There was none left! Now, on to the pesto veggie sandwich. It is a mix of artichoke hearts, olives, onions and bell peppers smothered with provolone cheese and topped with pesto sauce on grilled parmesan sourdough bread. And boy, was it tasty! All these ingredients seemed to complement each other in unexpected ways - artichokes have their own distinct flavors, sweet bell peppers, tangy but mellow onions, and distinct olives all went well with the provolone, one of my favorite cheeses on a sandwich. The only caveat I offer is that the grilled sandwich was soggy on the bottom - it had been plated too long, and the steam from the hot veggies and cheese was not good for the bread. Every time I picked it up, the bottom slice of bread bent over like a wilted flower. Not easy to eat like that, but I did my best and ended up finished everything with a fork. Not a deal breaker, but just an observation. And make sure you leave room for a milkshake - I just had to try the raspberry shake. It was sooo thick and very berry! Refreshing on a warm day. This place has the most ridiculously large menu that you think "they can't be doing all this well" but, my friend, you would be mistaken! Their portions are bonkers big and all the food I've had has been delicious. I'm obsessed with their French dip sandwich (except who puts sliced tomato on a French dip? I'll let it slide since the servers almost always asks if you want the tomato on there) 50's diner themed inside and nice big patio outside. TV's for watching a game on the patio as well as a fire pit and overhead heaters. The servers are all high school kids to early 20's, always polite and do a great job. One young lady was being berated by some boomer who was put out that she gave him a box for his leftovers because she's "supposed to do it" for him. Decent, trendy American place in what counts for Windsor's town center that does great eggs and has an absolutely lovely patio overlooking the Windsor Town Green. You'll get a lot of filling food, which is great for starting off the day. We're tourists and our day was a lot of visiting Sonoma State Park, hiking, and zip-lining, so going here for breakfast/brunch suited us. They have deals worked out with a few other places like the local WorldMark, where guests are given a discount for their order. Also, from what I've observed, dog friendly! XD Going off from our experience in the outdoor patio area, there wasn't really a lot of social distancing? We were all vaccinated, but just be aware of it if it makes you uncomfortable and looking for a sit-down place to eat. We were there for brunch on the weekend, and parking was packed. To be fair, this might because the weekend we went happened to be the area's school graduation. Actually, the day of the local high school's (the one down the street) graduation was ON the day we went here for brunch. So watch out for local special occasions if you're visiting in May. Couldn't' find a slot in their parking lot nor in the spaces lining Windsor the town green. After circling a few times, we managed to get a spot along Windsor Road on the other side of the building KCS is located in. I imagine parking will also be pretty busy on Sunday mornings when the Windsor Farmers Market is taking place. This place IS in the area, so yes. Their poached eggs really were top-notch. They were just PERFECT. Unfortunately, my waffle was a bit underdone (crispy on the outside, wet in the middle). However, egg-related things (including the burrito) in our order were also delicious. After exploring the outdoors, we wanted to grab a bite and Yelp brought us to this adorable diner in downtown Windsor. Very cute vibe inside and out, and I felt like I was transported to the Southeast. Our server was very friendly, and we all ordered sodas with our sandwiches: pulled pork, club, and reuben. My cup did have a pretty bad lipstick stain and she did forget to bring me my new cup of drink, but really polite about it. Food quickly arrived as we came at an off time in the afternoon and the portions are huge! My reuben had legit corned beef chunks and the rye bread was a bit overly buttered. The only flaw of this sandwich was they had a saucy mustard that I didn't notice on the menu and though I like mustard, I didn't like it on this sandwich. KC's hosted a Christmas group event for us and it was certainly the favorite Christmas group event for the wife and I (over the years). They had the semi outdoor part of the restaurant going and it was really nice. It was in the mid '50s fahrenheit outside temperature but it was nice and cozy. Cool fire going too. TVs set up is always fun. Probably would be a great place to watch the game. Had an awesome tree for pictures with friends. They had some seriously good food, pork sliders and hors d'oeuvres. The wings and jalapeno poppers were some of my favorite. There was a spread of fun christmas-themed desserts. Service was quick and friendly. Gotta have the department party back there again next year. The price for the party was also very reasonable and good value for the money. I got to also talk to one of the owners, super nice, told me that they do a mean breakfast too. So KC's is on my list for that and I don't even live in Windsor. Worth the drive. In-between wine tasting we decided to give KC's a shot as we aren't from the area and it looked like a tasty place to eat. As a party of 4 with 2 big dogs they were able to seat us in the shade on a toasty Sunday. We ordered Salads, Wraps and Burgers a variety of what they had to offer and we overall enjoyed our food. It's your classic America style restaurant, lots of choices to pick from depending on your appetite for the day. Our server was kind and checked up on us (and the dogs) regularly to see if we needed anything. Next time were in Windsor wine tasting we won't forget this spot. read more

We always make it a point to eat here at least once when we are visiting Windsor..Some of the best fresh breakfast you will ever have..The decor of the restaurantakes you feel like you're in the 50's the food makes you feel like you're on one of those fancy cooking shows and the staff is always tops for sure. Everything was phenomenal! Got a chicken fried steak and coffee cake for breakfast. It was all perfect. Potatoes could have had a LITTLE more flavor but I used them to soak up the egg yolk and it fixed that. Went on a Thursday morning so it was understandably nice and quiet. The music was calm. We sat on their patio which had overhead heaters making it the perfect temperature. And the server was friendly, attentive, and only came by when needed. Overall really awesome experience. Had breakfast here, again. I usually have pancakes, with eggs and bacon. It is all really tasty and I have to hold myself back from eating all of it at one sitting. My dining partners have had, for one, the Hillbilly Benedict, and for another, the potato pancakes. Nobody complained. Today, we ate on the patio.
