We came based on a locals rec. We were seated almost immediately, but it seemed as though there was only one server for the entire room we were in. The young man was kind and tried his best, but this meal start to finish took entirely too long and he never even came to check on us. Three other people came and dropped off food and drinks. Started with the fries with eyes. Not great. Deep fried smelt. Pretty fishy tasting and served with just basic tarter. We only had a few each before deciding it was a no. We both had cioppino. The broth was good. There were 7 mussels , 4 clams and 6 crab leg sections, still in shell. The crab made the meal extra messy and we were not given extra napkins and again, no check ins to even ask for some. Dessert was just ok. We tried the ice cream, the s'mores and the chocolate cake. Nothing stood out. The room was chilly. Noticeably different temperature than sitting in the main building by the bar. What a wonderful way to end our trip to Point Reyes. This is a lovely spot was an amazing view, and food that complements that view! I had the steak and fries, excellent, though I ordered medium rare and instead it was rare, but I ate it anyway and it was delicious! Fries crispy and full of flavor. Hubby ordered the Louie Salad with Shrimp, and it was sooo good! He finished the entire thing! (he did share a few bites with me.) This is a restaurant where the sum is greater than the parts. The view is great - nab a table by the window if you can ( especially before dark). Food was pretty good -- clam chowder was the best thing we got and really good. The oysters were fresh and good ( pricy) . The crab Louie was definitely average and, in my opinion, overpriced - $31. Wasn't tossed well with a lot of Louie dressing at the bottom of the dish making everything soggy. Crab was ok but wasn't that really tasty fresh crab I'm used to. Fries were crispy and good. Salad with apples and goat cheese wasn't my type but my husband liked it. Service was very friendly and nice but not attentive. We never got the refill of water we asked for. I've been to Nick's Cove a few times over the years, usually for oysters on the patio with friends, and always enjoyed it -- so I was excited to bring my son here around his birthday. Unfortunately, this visit was really disappointing and awkward. First, I ordered a cocktail that was basically all ice and very weak. I mentioned to the server that next time I'd love more drink and less ice. Instead of adjusting, he brought me a smaller glass with no ice, which came across as a strange and almost sarcastic response. Then my son's sandwich arrived, and up close it looked like it had little hairs or fuzz on it, almost like it had been pressed against a paper towel. When I pointed it out, the server leaned all over it to inspect (not very sanitary) and decided it must have just been Parmesan cheese shreds. Whether or not it was cheese, the way it was handled was unprofessional. To top it off, when my son ordered a Coke, the glass came out looking like it had leftover foam stuck to it from a root beer float and was floating off on the top of the coke. He didn't notice at first, took a sip, and then showed me completely disgusted. The server again picked it up, looked confused, and asked him if it "tasted okay" instead of just removing it right away. It was replaced but the appetite for it had been lost. Beyond unprofessional. None of these issues were handled gracefully, and nothing was comped from the bill -- which made the whole experience feel even worse. For a place that I've known to be beautiful and enjoyable, this visit really soured my opinion. The setting is still lovely, but the service and food handling this time were not up to par. read more

Great shrimp tacos, great views of the water, and a great time! This is one of my favorite places to stop on a drive to Pt. Reyes. It's the best on a sunny day to enjoy outside. It can get very chilly during the winter months. We only tried the fish tacos, they were tasty and hit the spot. We only stopped for a light meal, and luckily we made it right before the weekend afternoon rush. Nicks Cove is definitely a must-visit just to enjoy the views! We had dinner along the Tomales Bay this past weekend and the setting was easily 5 stars. A lovely pier stretching over the water, plenty of waterfront seating, including in the boat shack at the end of the pier (by reservation). There's even a piano out there to play or enjoy some live music! And great views of Duck Island and Hog Island in the distance. Just a unique atmosphere with great decor and tons of character. There's plenty of seating inside the restaurant too, as well as at the bar. You pay and order at the front near the entrance, then seat yourself anywhere inside (outdoor seating is either by reservation or there may be a wait time), and they bring your food/drinks to your table. Service was pretty standard, nothing really noteworthy. Apparently they have a new menu, but also a limited menu. Nonetheless, we found a few items to try. Fries With Eyes (smelts), Mussels and Sausage (with yummy aioli), Strawberry Shortcake, and for drinks, the Respite, and Phantom of the Guava. The drinks were pretty good, the food wasn't extraordinary, but still of good quality. I liked the dessert the best, with fresh strawberries and light whipped cream. Point Reyes is great for travelers looking to spend a day outdoors. You'll have a very relaxing time hiking the trails and relaxing on the beaches-even just driving through the parks - is very scenic. Along the way the city of Marshall resides. My partner mentions his colleagues said we should stop at Nick's for lunch. Upon entering, I see a window where patrons are ordering. Walked inside and the lady mentions you'll need to come outside and order and then sit down and pick up your food. Kinda odd why the establishment would have it that way. I've been coming here for years and often bring out-of-town guests. This Mother's Day, we took my 78-year-old mother for lunch. We arrived right at opening - restaurant empty - and were seated in a scenic corner with view of the pier. Unfortunately, it was freezing due to constant door traffic. The hostess repeatedly held the door open, letting in cold wind directly at our table. Despite our polite comments, the staff showed little concern until we finally flagged someone down to move. For a $300+ meal, basic comfort and attentiveness shouldn't be too much to ask. Disappointing, especially given how quiet the restaurant was when we arrived. We couldn't help but wonder--given reviews mentioning similar experiences--if our treatment had anything to do with the fact that we are a family of color. We drove out to Marshall for lunch at Nick's today. Brilliant decision. Lunch was outstanding and the setting is perfect. We had the calamari first, which deserves an extra star. I had fish and chips and my wife had the lobster roll. Everything was perfect and the service was quick and friendly. Confession: we had the Strauss soft serve swirl cone for dessert and it was epic. (This will sound odd, but the cone is made from a blue corn tortilla, then the cone rim is dipped in dark chocolate. This was worth the drive on its own! Eat at Nick's. The standout dish, hands down, was the fish and chips. The best I've ever had and something I'm still talking about three months later. Lightly battered, perfectly cooked, and incredibly fluffy inside. Absolutely worth ordering. The chicken dish was solid and enjoyable. If you're staying at the lodging, be sure to ask about the complimentary oysters or cheese board. A great bonus and a nice way to start the meal. Not everything hit the mark. The ragu was pricey for what it was and, unfortunately, reminded me more of something I could have ordered off of a children's menu. I stayed at the hotel so this review is for that experience only. Angel and Kortney were incredibly polite, Angel was truly a light at the end of a tunnel for us. We were unsure at first, but Angel had such a warm and inviting personality and once she explained the details of the suite we were sold. Staying here was truly a magical experience, its been a long time since I stayed in a place that reminded me of home. We stayed in the suite Bandits Bungalow, and I will be bringing my favorite people here for probably the rest of my life. So please don't change anything Lol Its basically got the theme of older cabin on the lake but everything is very comfortable. Bathroom has the clawfoot and heated floors, down pillows in the bedroom, views of water and the sky in both the bedroom and living room, the sounds of waves permeate through the walls. Cozy and quaint seafood spot right on the water of Tamales Bay, dishing out upscale lunch and dinner options. While the prices are certainly on the high side for what you're getting, I think it's important to remember that Nicks Cove is within a 1.5 hour drive of the Bay Area and they are entitled to charge what their market will support. If you have the money it's worth a visit, but if not you wont miss out on too much taking pics from the nearby boat launch. Service: You are seated by a host upon entering, but after that you will be ordering off of your phone using a table specific QR code. I personally like this style of service, but I've seen some reviews citing this as a criticism. Your food and drinks are served to you in a reasonable amount of time and the servers are friendly and willing to answer questions. Aside from that pretty standard across the board. Food/Drink: I ordered a mid range wine and my wife ordered a cocktail. I honestly dont recall too much about the drinks so nothing was particularly good or bad, though they were certainly overpriced. I had the Fish and Chips which were damn near perfect and very memorable and my wife had a salad (I forget which one). If you do go, give yourself a cheat day and get the Fish and Chips, they're worth it! Ambiance: It's clear that this is what lets them get away with the premium prices they charge and was the main reason we visited. The restaraunt is right on the water and you get a great view of Tomales Bay. There is a small pier that extends into the bay itself which in previous years guests could go out on and enjoy their meals in the boathouse at the end! I wish we had selected the Rockefeller because I love those but I wanted to try something new. I would call this a $24 lesson learned. Everything I've ever had there has been delicious beyond belief so I can't really complain. It's my palate. So since it's me and not them, I'm going to give them 5 stars again because they always knock my socks off every time I go there. I love this place the pieces. When we finally found a table on the pier, they shouted at us that they don't serve at the pier. So we ordered, we picked up our order, we cleaned up and we took the dishes back. - Overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. It may be that our food was stone cold by the time we ate it, but not worth the money, time or effort - Dangerous crossing from the parking lot to the restaurant Overall, most people will not see this review due to lack of cell service in the area. Recently moved to the Sacramento Area from the Central Valley by Merced California. We'd regularly take a quick trip over the Pacheco Pass to Monterey and eat at Vivolo's our favorite Chowder House. Today, we took a road trip to find a new Chowder House closer to home. The mission was a success! We headed towards Point Reyes Station and followed the Coast Line to Nick's Cove. It was a successful experience! We started the meal with a bowl of their New England Clam Chowder and it was perfect. We got the baguette and it stole the show (WOW). Baked that day with a salt/butter topping. My wife had the fish and chips. Normally she leaves a piece for me, but not today. The fries that complimented the dish were excellent. As for the slaw on the side, she doesn't like it so it was handed off to me who loved it. I had the fish sandwich and homemade chips. Another incredible plate. The service was great and ambiance fantastic! It was a great day trip with my wife and a for sure to be a return date in the future! We were in the sleepy coastal town of Marshall and we stopped for dinner at Nick's Cove. We were greeted at the door and ordered there, with the food delivered to whatever table we selected. It was a rustic feel with big windows which looked out onto Tomales Bay. Beautiful! We had root beer and a fab cocktail called Dragon's Blood! It was awesome!! It had rum, blood orange juice, some kind of chai concoction and cardamom bitters. What a trip! We shared a bowl of clam chowder that was fantastic. It had nice chunks of potato and lots of bacon. Very easy on the palate. Then we had their cheese burger and Cajun seared tuna sandwich, both served with a healthy serving of their fries.
