I rarely leave reviews, but this was one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences I've had, twice in a row. We had a 7:45pm dinner reservation and arrived on time, only to find no one at the host stand. After waiting about 10 minutes, someone finally came and seated us around 7:55. Water was poured, and then nothing. No server ever came to our table. After sitting there for 30 minutes without anyone taking our order or even checking in, we left at 8:25. Really disappointing, because the food actually looked good. We were staying nearby and decided to give it another shot the next morning for breakfast, which was included with our hotel stay. Unfortunately, it was more of the same. We arrived around 9am, again no one at the host stand. We eventually flagged down a waitress, who rudely told us to just seat ourselves. After sitting down, we waited another 20 minutes and still no one came to take our order. We left again without eating. The front of house operation here is a complete mess. It feels like there is no system at all, no coordination, no accountability, and no awareness of guests. At one point, I overheard staff saying things like "let's just say this one has no milk in it" and "let's just say this one is sunny side up," which made it clear they did not even know where dishes were supposed to go and were just guessing. Even more telling, barely anyone in the restaurant was actually eating, and most people looked as confused and frustrated as we were. Honestly, the owner and staff should be embarrassed by how poorly this place is being run. I have never seen such a complete breakdown in service, especially two days in a row. We've been here for brunch a few times and finally got out there for dinner. The food was as excellent, I might even say some of the best food in Marin in 2026. The service, on the other hand, was as adequate but flavored with a heavy dose of grumpy, broken wait staff. More than one hostess/waitress seemed almost resentful that we were there. Not my idea of a special night out. Just because you can afford to take your sweetheart out to a nice dinner doesn't mean you're a jerk and deserve to be scowled at. This can happen when you try and do really good food in a rural area and the workforce just isn't up to the challenge. Too bad. Sometimes you can train people to be gracious and inviting and to care about their jobs but sometimes people are just too broken and there's nobody else to choose from. read more

Perfection. I had a mid week meal at Mable's that was perfection. It started with sunset viewed from the deck and a fabulous mezcal based cocktail Thru the Wire. They offered to bring out heat lamps to the deck but I opted to move indoors. I wasn't prepared for a menu that had many of my favorite dishes. I opted for the Family meal with burata tomato basil bruschetta, oxtail ragu ( sourced from local Steme Creek), crème brûlée and a glass of house wine. My companion ordered off the menu so we could try more items. With several excellent seafood restaurants in Marshall, we opted to lean towards the beef options, sourced from temple Creek. We loved the winter chicory salad suggested by our server Katherine, with roasted delicata squash, pear, Point Reyes blue cheese, and a balanced pomegranate vinaigrette. The Stemple Creek braised short ribs were tender and in a rich red wine jus and came with za'atar roasted baby carrots. I'd order the carrots as a side if we didn't have it with our ribs. The ragu was robust in flavor. With several excellent seafood restaurants in Marshall, we opted to lean towards the beef options. Our plates were immaculate after we scraped off every morsel. The crème brûlée was not overly sweet and had a perfect carmelized crust. The chocolate pot du crème looked like overkill but was a careful construction of texture, sweet, salt, and crunch without being overwhelming. Weekday diners will help sustain this gem. It is worth the drive whether you are in West or Central Marin. read more

My partner and I were surprised and delighted by the spectacular cuisine, service, and views offered by Mable's. What a treat! The menus for dinner and brunch were innovative, drawing on fresh local food sources, perfectly executed by the talented chef. A new addition to the West Marin dining scene. Hidden away at the top of the Historic Marconi convention center, Mable's if offering creative, small plate cuisine with a global feel. We tried a wide selection of dishes and standouts were the hummus, corn, tomato-burrata and the halibut of the day. There was some confusion over bacon in our dish but in the end it was fine. Better communication with the kitchen would help. New GM is very engaged and interested in integrating with the community. Great food, nice coffee, lovely dining spaces, friendly service. We stoped by for brunch on our way from Napa to Point Reyes on a Sunday morning in late December, without a reservation.. Everyone in our party of 8 enjoyed their meals. The breakfast potatoes were delicious, the hamburger was perfectly medium rare (as requested), and the shakshuka, breakfast sandwich, French toast, focaccia, and griddled banana bread were all tasty and satisfying. read more

Once in the park there were very few signs for the restaurant and so we ended up parking at the Lodge and wandering for awhile before we found someone that worked there and pointed us across the street and up the hill to the restaurant. The outdoor patio/deck looked nice but we were seated inside and some of the decor looked like a nice restaurant, and then aspects of the decor looked like a cafeteria. The menu is pretty small and they were even missing at least one thing we tried to order (the trout dip). The hummus was tasty but came with just a couple little pieces of bread and a few veggies, way less than you'd need for that amount of hummus. The seafood chowder had some nice seafood in it but the broth was a bit bland. The cheese plate that 3 cheeses on it and a few dried fruits and nuts and pieces of bread, but was pretty small and bare for the price. What a pleasant surprise. I read Yelp reviews and didn't know what to expect, Mediterranean, tin fish, What? But one thing I will clarify is the drive to the restaurant is on a hill but it is completely paved & well maintained. They were having a 1 year anniversary and live music as well. And it was an unusual warm fall day and beautiful west Marin was the perfect place to spend it. So off we go on the twisty road to west Marin. Once we arrived the location is part of a state park with a lodge nearby and wonderful trails to hike which we did prior to heading in Mables. The backside of the restaurant didn't impress us but once we walked up the stairs to the patio we were taken aback, the place is woodsy, lots of community tables and private tables, the inside is simple yet well designed. They also have a small wine tasting bar at the entrance. There was a lot to take in, it felt like being in a large tree house. Now the food, so delicious and well executed. I had the chowder it wasn't the typical thick stuff this had a consommé consistency it was delicious, The butter added a creaminess to it. I also ordered an Autumn Chicory Salad, it had endive, escarole, pomegranate, hazelnuts & blue cheese it was divine. The Foccacia Bread was rustic, & had a nice crispiness to it. The Braised Short Rib on a bed of whipped potatoes carrots with pistachio honey was a winner too. And that was just the Happy Hour menu. Well hats off to the Chef, very impressive. Service was attentive. As we drove to Mables we passed by all the seaside restaurants which I've been to many a times but Mables is a must not only for the cuisine but the ability to take a hike in as well. read more

Lovely surprise up in the woods above Tomales Bay. Sweet ambiance and a very nice menu of locally-sourced ingredients prepared with creativity and care. Attentive service. We ate here twice during our stay in Tomales and enjoyed it both times. The short ribs were particularly tasty. read more

The Mrs. and I dined at Mable's tonight. We were staying at the Lodge at Marconi and it was nice to have a dining option in Marshall that didn't shut down at 4. We began our Mable's experience earlier in the day. The Mrs. read that the bar opened at 4 so we trekked up the hill from our room. We actually arrived a before 4 and were greeted by Jessica. We asked if we could sit outside even though the restaurant wasn't opened yet. She let us know that the kitchen didn't open until 4, which was no biggie. We wanted to indulge in an adult beverage. I ordered my usual Maker's Mark Manhattan. The Mrs. Ordered a gin martini. Jessica said they didn't have Bombay Sapphire so she provided an alternative which was very good. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name. Jessica actually made both of our drinks and I have to say that she makes a really, really good Maker's Mark Manhattan. One of the best that I've had. We left Mable's for a few hours then returned shortly before 7 which was our reservation time. Jessica let us pick where we wanted to sit so we parked ourselves at a corner table. We weren't alone in our Mable's experience this evening. Looking at Mable's menu it is clear to see that there is a strong Mediterranean influence. Which, frankly, doesn't fit into the culinary landscape of Marshall, California but I think it will in the very near future. The Mrs. and I decided to go big so we ordered the Mable's experience which is described on the menu as "sit back, relax, and let us cover your table, like a fog, with an array of cold appetizers to start your meal off right". I honestly think describing the Mable's experience as a fog is an understatement. I would say it covers the table like a tidal wave of delectable delight. For $35 per person(full table participation required) you get a meal that is so much more than an array of cold appetizers. Pickled vegetables, canned smoked trout, hummus, and quinoa salad were just a few of the amazing offerings. The two standout offerings were the canned smoked trout and the watermelon Kimchi salad. I'm not a fan of smoked trout but Mable's was incredible. It wasn't overly fishy like the I've had in the past. It was just clean and flavorful. The watermelon Kimchi salad could have easily been made into a cold soup and I'd eat it. Aside from the smoked trout and watermelon Kimchi, there was an array pickled vegetables and salads. One item we added were the grilled Kafta meatballs which were incredible. They were so fragrant and flavorful. The Mrs. and I did a deep dive on the food and presentation while we dined. We definitely agree that the Mable's experience was like a Mezze platter with Asian influence in flavors and the presentation reminded us of the accompaniments you get when you have Korean Bbq. For dessert we ordered the apple crisp(which was incredible) that was personally delivered by Chef who took the time to discuss our meal. The Mrs. and I shared our thoughts and he shared his as well as the philosophy behind the food at Mable's. Sustainability seems to be a big part of the philosophy. It was an incredible discussion that I did not expect to have. I've never been to a restaurant where Chef came out of the kitchen to serve food AND discuss said food with me. Chef further discussed the concept of serving tinned fish. There is a whole section on the menu that address it. I'm personally not a fan of tinned fish but I can understand that concept of serving it. It is kind of like a choose your own adventure scenario. Just because fish is served in a can doesn't mean it's an inferior product. Jessica did an incredible job at taking care of us. Mable's has only been opened a little over a week at this point and to have the level of service that Jessica provides this early on is so good for Mable's image. Hopefully, Mable's will be able to hire more Jessicas. Mable's sits at the top of a hill in the Marconi State Park. I suggest if you're staying at the lodge you drive up the hill to Mable's. The hill is a lot steeper than it looks. Looking at Mable's from the outside you'd think it was built from shipping containers. There is a large deck with tables and chairs. The inside of the restaurant is decorated in what I guess could be called contemporary. My only complaint is I think the lighting could be a bit dimmer. Each table has an electric candle on it so why not dim the lights and make them pop. Also, and probably my most important observation is that I don't recall seeing anything advertising Mable's on Highway 1. Even pulling into the park I don't recall seeing anything. Once inside the park there are a few small signs directing you to the restaurant but they seem to easily get lost amongst the scenery. This spot is unmissable for anyone seeking a fine yet uniquely comfortable dining vibe. We came for brunch on a whim and went for the poached egg asparagus salad with smoked trout and the breakfast sando, zomgosh, both were incredible. The focaccia on the sando was str8^ gang busters. And get the spicy sauce, the Fresno chili stuff, remarkably good too, I ate it all. Also, we ordered the lemon pound cake to pack it all down with a full French press. The manager Caitlin was super friendly and gave us some cool recs on how to spend our afternoon, that proved lovely. It was so good we returned for desserts the next night, but ended up ordering the steak as well. Perfectly cooked, with fresh spring onions and this crazy almond goodness as a spread. Finished with a crisp Pilsner and some lemongrass and candied turmeric ice cream. Get outta town delicious, and our server Mari couldn't have been sweeter. We'll be back. read more

What can I say? EAT AT MABLE'S!! This was a wonderful dining experience. We sat outside on a couch on the deck with our dog, wonderful views, a heat lamp, and the best food & service (thanks Jackie!!) So lovely to have such an excellent restaurant right here at the Marconi Lodge (where we are staying). We shared the their baked sourdough focaccia, a (special) leek dip with a side of organic raw veggies, the kofta meatballs, and the grilled broccoli. I couldn't possibly tell you what I liked the best, because they were ALL delicious! And the red house wine (with a generous pour) complemented all the dishes. We topped it all off with a mouth watering Meyer Lemon cheesecake slice. Definitely coming back here!! read more

Mable's is a much-needed addition to the area--there aren't many dinner options nearby, and this spot really delivers. The food was fresh and flavorful, the service was friendly and efficient, and the setting was peaceful (probably even nicer during the day). We ate here a few weeks ago and it was so good my wife made me post this review when we realized we never did. The food is wonderful, you can tell the ingredients are well sourced and dishes are well thought out. It's tucked away and hard to find, and the view of the water isn't great. They are closed on Monday, we had a 6:30 dinner reservation on Tuesday and they were already out of 2 dishes that we wanted to try, so I can't speak to the burrata or the roasted cauliflower. We had the focaccia and the "Caesar " to start. The focaccia is delicious and served with house-made butter (also delicious). The salad used Bibb lettuces, carmody cheese and crispy garbanzos, so I can't call it a "Caesar ", but it was tasty. The "kofta" were made of beef instead of lamb and were as hard as rocks! Really, you couldn't cut them with a fork and it was a struggle with a knife. Next we had the butter beans which were delicious but they were topped with a garlic scape pesto that completely overpowered those delicious beans. The menu said there was "house made ricotta salata" in the dish but it was just a few sprinkles on top and added nothing to the dish. Except for the focaccia this meal was 100% meh. read more
