Nick's Cove is a wonderful spot to bring your dogs and have a good meal outside on the patio. We've been staying at the cottages with our German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois. Most places do not allow our dogs. At the restaurant, the Steak Frites the first night was amazing. Lunch the next day was the Smashburger. Also very good and so are their fries. If you like mezcal, the Touch of Green cocktail is delicious. If you like cherries, try the Queen of Spades is delicious. This is a wonderful spot to bring the whole family. I'm giving them 5 stars because they deserve a much better rating than they have. read more

Fresh seafood was excellent from the start. From the juicy serving of crab from the salad to delicious fish and chips, every part of our meal was delicious! I love how local the ingredients are, and it shows throughout each dish in their menu. Service was very attentive in assisting us with our food. However, when we first got served, I noticed the table wasn't fully set up and we didn't have any napkin or cutlery available. It was just menus stacked on a clipboard. We did have a dog with us and wanted an inside table due to the wind, and it felt like seating us was a bit of a "here damn" table. Regardless, our seating and view was very calming with the small waves. We still had a relaxing time out of the city and even got to see some wildlife out on the dock. The restaurant offers a delightful view of Tomales Bay and is open seven days a week, unlike many of its neighboring restaurants. We happened to wander to the end of the adjoining pier while we waited for our meal, which ended up being a top notch idea. Not only is there a darling, maritime-themed cottage, but we found a selection of board games that were up for grabs and we borrowed Yahtzee! to entertain ourselves during our meal. We weren't especially hungry, so we opted for a selection of sides, plus my friend is a fan of mussels, so we tried their weekly special. While seafood isn't my usual preference, the broth was delicious with a warm heat to it. Next up were the Mushroom à La Grecque, which I found on the sides menu. Simple, but tasty. The Grilled Asparagus could've learned something from the simplicity of the mushroom dish. It's trying to do so much. The crumbled hard-boiled egg and the marcona almonds, which lost most of their crunch. The gremolata wasn't noticeable and the seasonings weren't a garnish as much as a layer atop the vegetables. I ordered asparagus because I actually enjoy it and it was smothered. On the other hand, I love Strauss Dairy's everything. Nick's Cove offers a lavender or blue corn cone for their soft-serve ice cream and a number of other delicious options to get your ice cream on after your main course. I went with the swirl of vanilla and chocolate and was not disappointed! I strongly recommend making the stop. Came here on a Friday night and really enjoyed our dinner! We were promptly seated upon arrival. We ordered the clam chowder, crab Louie salad, and the King salmon entree. We received the clam chowder and crab Louie salad first. The clam chowder was a little salty, but adding the oyster crackers helped soak salt up. The salad was very tasty and had a good amount of crab. The salmon was cooked perfectly and loved the sauce that came with it. The restaurant is located right on the water, with beautiful views and a pier you can walk on! We ordered a Chesapeake chowder, fried seafood mix, some fresh oysters, a dungeons crab salad, and some fries. The chowder was light and vinegary, and it had nice chunks of ham in it. I liked the variety of the fried seafood mix which included fried sage and lemon slices, but the batter was pretty oily. The Crab Louie salad had a decent amount of crab, but was pretty expensive. My favorite dish were the fries which were perfectly crispy and had a lot of lemon zest shaved on top. read more

Ambiance and views are great. There are several tables for two along the pier. I noticed that a dog was at almost every table. Not always a good idea. They should be spaced out. Food was another issue. Very disappointing. My husband ordered the fish and chips. I didn't think it was anything special. Just so so. The clam chowder was good. I liked the crispy bacon in it. The crab Louis was awful. I really should have sent it back. Normally, Louis comes with thousand island dressing. This tasted like a vinaigrette, which made it vinegary and bright, as if it masked the crab. There was no bread served with it and for the hefty price, it simply wasn't worth it. 3/21/26 I thought I had posted this updated review, but I hadn't. We've been coming here for the past few years, specifically for the cioppino. Today, we were in the area and decided to stop by for a bowl of that cioppino. When we walked in, we were greeted and welcomed by a very nice and smiling hostess who seated us immediately at a table by the window overlooking Tomales Bay. After we looked at the menu and were ready to order, it took a few minutes for the server to come and introduce herself. Our server was Raina. We ordered some raw oysters, fries, and a bowl of cioppino to share. The oysters came out first. The oysters were good. Next, the cioppino and fries came out. I was skeptical of the cioppino because the broth had a golden yellow color. If you don't know anything about cioppino, it's usually a mixture of seafood in a tomato flavored broth that is generally simmered until the broth thickens. That is how the cioppino used to be at Nick's. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Seafood was good, but the broth was flavorless and watery. Our experience on this day was not how we've experienced previous visits. We saw our server, Raina, a total of 4 times. Once when she took our food & drink orders, again after our food was brought to our table, but not yet eaten, next when she came over to ask how the food was after we had finished eating, and lastly to bring our check. If she had come back again after we tasted the food, I would have told her that the only item at our table that tasted good was the fries! Let me just say that we won't be back. read more

They offer delicious soft serve ice cream. The chocolate had little flecks of chocolate in it. Really great place we chose for seafood after a visit to Muir Woods and the Reyes National Seashore. A nice lil fish place on the side of the road with a pier jutting way out into the bay. The atmosphere has great views and the old bar seats are just very cool. Views/atmosphere 5. Not fancy. The service was a little slow after seating. Took a lot of minutes. Given other reviews I'd recommend one more server. Service slow start...solid after. 3 Once we got beers it was a very quick service for appetizers. Amazing local oysters. Briny. Tasty. Yummy clam chowder and the Black cod smoked dip was great. Chowder came with a small and hot loaf of bread. The halibut was fresh and really great over a thick romescu sauce, olives, and cauliflower. Nick's Cove has a top-notch bar program and is always worth stopping into when I'm in the area. Whenever I'm able to stop by, I enjoy seeing Jimmy and/or Grant behind the bar. They've both been there quite some time now and are incredibly well-rounded gentlemen who can hold a conversation about practically anything. Their cocktail and spirits knowledge is extremely high, especially if you're looking to go off menu. You can tell there's a lot of passion behind what they do. They make a lot of their own infusions and syrups in-house, and it definitely shows in the quality of the cocktails. Best seats in the house are right in front of those guys at the bar. We came based on a locals rec. We were seated almost immediately, but it seemed as though there was only one server for the entire room we were in. The young man was kind and tried his best, but this meal start to finish took entirely too long and he never even came to check on us. Three other people came and dropped off food and drinks. Started with the fries with eyes. Not great. Deep fried smelt. Pretty fishy tasting and served with just basic tarter. We only had a few each before deciding it was a no. We both had cioppino. The broth was good. There were 7 mussels , 4 clams and 6 crab leg sections, still in shell. The crab made the meal extra messy and we were not given extra napkins and again, no check ins to even ask for some. Dessert was just ok. We tried the ice cream, the s'mores and the chocolate cake. Nothing stood out. The room was chilly. Noticeably different temperature than sitting in the main building by the bar. Overall just an okay meal, so leaving with a $200 tab for two people and one set of drinks was a tough pill to swallow. read more

What a wonderful way to end our trip to Point Reyes. This is a lovely spot was an amazing view, and food that complements that view! I had the steak and fries, excellent, though I ordered medium rare and instead it was rare, but I ate it anyway and it was delicious! Fries crispy and full of flavor. Hubby ordered the Louie Salad with Shrimp, and it was sooo good! He finished the entire thing! (he did share a few bites with me.) As my wife and I were driving up Highway 1 from the Bay Area, headed back to our little cabin rental in Mendocino, we couldn't decide what to do for dinner. We eventually settled at stopping at the next restaurant we came across - and, boy, were we lucky it was Nick's! The service was friendly and prompt, the views were great, and the food was delicious! These were some of the better fish and chips I've ever had, while my wife's lobster roll was a treat! We weren't wild about the house potato chips, but the fries were amazing, as was the baguette that came with our starter of clam chowder (also tasty). For desert, I had a strawberry pound cake, which was very good, and my wife had a very fun, very creative S'Mores tart (it really did taste like an elevated campfire treat!). We would stop here again in a heartbeat. This is a restaurant where the sum is greater than the parts. The view is great - nab a table by the window if you can ( especially before dark). Food was pretty good -- clam chowder was the best thing we got and really good. The oysters were fresh and good ( pricy) . The crab Louie was definitely average and, in my opinion, overpriced - $31. Wasn't tossed well with a lot of Louie dressing at the bottom of the dish making everything soggy. Crab was ok but wasn't that really tasty fresh crab I'm used to. Fries were crispy and good. Salad with apples and goat cheese wasn't my type but my husband liked it. Service was very friendly and nice but not attentive. We never got the refill of water we asked for. I've been to Nick's Cove a few times over the years, usually for oysters on the patio with friends, and always enjoyed it -- so I was excited to bring my son here around his birthday. Unfortunately, this visit was really disappointing and awkward. First, I ordered a cocktail that was basically all ice and very weak. I mentioned to the server that next time I'd love more drink and less ice. Instead of adjusting, he brought me a smaller glass with no ice, which came across as a strange and almost sarcastic response. Then my son's sandwich arrived, and up close it looked like it had little hairs or fuzz on it, almost like it had been pressed against a paper towel. When I pointed it out, the server leaned all over it to inspect (not very sanitary) and decided it must have just been Parmesan cheese shreds. Whether or not it was cheese, the way it was handled was unprofessional. To top it off, when my son ordered a Coke, the glass came out looking like it had leftover foam stuck to it from a root beer float and was floating off on the top of the coke. He didn't notice at first, took a sip, and then showed me completely disgusted. The server again picked it up, looked confused, and asked him if it "tasted okay" instead of just removing it right away. It was replaced but the appetite for it had been lost. Beyond unprofessional. None of these issues were handled gracefully, and nothing was comped from the bill -- which made the whole experience feel even worse. For a place that I've known to be beautiful and enjoyable, this visit really soured my opinion. The setting is still lovely, but the service and food handling this time were not up to par. read more

I've been coming here for years and often bring out-of-town guests. This Mother's Day, we took my 78-year-old mother for lunch. We arrived right at opening - restaurant empty - and were seated in a scenic corner with view of the pier. Unfortunately, it was freezing due to constant door traffic. The hostess repeatedly held the door open, letting in cold wind directly at our table. Despite our polite comments, the staff showed little concern until we finally flagged someone down to move. For a $300+ meal, basic comfort and attentiveness shouldn't be too much to ask. Disappointing, especially given how quiet the restaurant was when we arrived. We couldn't help but wonder--given reviews mentioning similar experiences--if our treatment had anything to do with the fact that we are a family of color. I'll let others decide, but the lack of courtesy left a lasting impression. I will probably never come back here. read more
