I tend to read reviews prior to checking out a place, but I have had the pleasure of eating here 3x. My first experience was when my best friend door dashed me an order on my birthday when I was sick. Let me tell you the Phô hits the spot when you're not feeling well. I have stopped in two other times and both have been great experiences. The large Phô was more than enough to fill me up. (6'3", 250), added with a boba tea made my experience that much more enjoyable. Now, for those who are concerned about MSG, take the time to do a little research. It's about as rare as celiac disease.... Everyone claims to have it. Can it be an intolerance, sure as with anything, but our body uses sodium physiologically and the other part is an amino acid that naturally occurs as well. That amino acid is derived from vegetables. So I call BS, but whatever. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and sodium chloride (NaCl, table salt) differ primarily in their chemical structure and sodium concentration. MSG is a salt of sodium and glutamic acid (an amino acid) containing ~12-14% sodium, while NaCl is a compound of sodium and chloride containing ~39-40% sodium. MSG provides umami taste, whereas NaCl provides saltiness.  Key Chemical Differences: Chemical Formula and Structure: NaCl: A simple ionic compound, with a cubic crystal structure. MSG: A salt of glutamic acid. (monosodium glutamate hydrate), which contains a sodium ion and a glutamate molecule. Sodium Content: MSG has roughly two-thirds less sodium by weight compared to table salt. Production/Source:NaCl: Obtained through mining or evaporation of seawater.MSG: Produced through the fermentation of starches, sugar beets, or sugarcane. Flavor Profile: NaCl provides a purely salty taste. MSG triggers the umami (savory) taste receptor, enhancing flavor without high sodium levels. Appearance: Both are white, crystalline, but MSG crystals are often longer/prismatic (like "mini snowflakes") while table salt is often granular or cubic.  Impact in Cooking:While both enhance flavor, they function differently. We tried this place knowing it wasn't rated well. We had the bbq pork fresh rolls, rare steak pho, and chicken teriyaki. The bbq fresh rolls weren't bbq'd. The meat barely had any flavor. The peanut sauce was great however. The rare steak was good but the broth wasn't very flavorful. The chicken teriyaki was a disaster. The plate came with warm chopped cabbage and a few vegetables. I've never had warm cabbage served with a rice dish and it wasn't tasty. The teriyaki was over salted and all I tasted was the soy sauce. The chicken itself was tender. The service was good. This is the closest pho restaurant to where we live and we are definitely grateful to have it in the area. We've dined in, but have done take out more often and both have worked well, although the packaging for takeout hasn't been super reliable. Sometimes it's wrapped up perfectly and other times we've experienced some sloppy packing and gotten spills. We love the pho. I like the chicken and my husband likes the meatball. Just so yummy! Really hits the spot. We always have leftovers and our daughter loves it too. I will say it does seem a bit pricy, but considering there isn't much competition in the area, I guess that's to be expected. The interior is definitely unique. Kind of a science theme? Not sure. We are spending the weekend at an Airbnb about a mile from Newton Pho. We found it on Door Dash and ordered 2 fresh shrimp rolls, chicken pho, cashew chicken and shrimp/chicken pad thai. Because of its close distance it arrived fairly quickly and nice and hot. Immediately I noticed that they only packed 1 order of shrimp rolls. I called and they didn't apologize or provide a resolution. She said whomever was on shift before her packed it incorrectly. I asked if they could refund it or if I could pick up the lost order and she said NO, not really. The other two entrees were really good and packed with protein. The pho was underwhelming, flavorless and with dry chicken. I gave it a 3 but if I could, I'd give the two entrees a 4, the pho and customer service a 1. read more

we order quite often through Door Dash and there has been issues with consistency of the noodles. today we went in and unfortunately im having the same issue with the noodles. this hardly happens but when it does it's devastating. they taste hard like not cooked enough. Horrible service. We sat for over 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. There was one other table sat when we arrived. So it wasn't because they were super busy. A busser finally brought us a menu but was unable to take our order. Ten minutes after, a server finally came to our table. When we finally ordered, the food came out quickly but they forgot to bring our boba tea. We completed our whole meal and not once did the server come back to check on us. We had to stop the server and ask for our check. When we informed her that we never received the boba tea her response was "Yeah I was too busy to make it." No apology, no offer to make it now, just a dismissive attitude. We then had to ask for it to be removed from the check. I was very disappointed in our experience here because the food is good. I've been eating here fairly regularly the past year. The food is excellent and I highly recommend their spicy pho. It is rich for pho and extremely delicious. Their milk teas are very good as well although a little expensive. Only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is this place regularly doesn't include utensils and napkins for takeout orders which is extremely frustrating. TLDR: Skip it if you want to have food on time or any level of good service. Newton Pho owners if you are reading this - fix your systems now, please. You should not seat people you can't serve. Period. We have always given this place a pass for their straight up horrible service. We have gone here for years and as my previous reviews can attest the food is acceptable to good most of the time. But that's when you can get food. Today we show up and it's busier than normal. But also as always they are understaffed and inefficient. It's gone too far. We usually wait for some time regardless. But given that pho is a fast meal you aren't waiting too long to eat. Today - 20 minutes later we still haven't gotten water. They never brought menus. We had to get them ourselves. They didn't even acknowledge that they were going to come to get our order. It's like we didn't exist. I understand it was busy but honestly they should change their systems. We hear them say they aren't serving boba. This has been like this since their opening. The member of their team which has been there for a couple years must be family because he hasn't left yet. He's always flustered because they are way under staffed and their systems are wrong. Look at the other reviews and you always notice a pattern. Until recently I could forgive the terrible service but that ends. No more forgiveness. They need to fix things and I'm warning people if service sucks just leave before you order. Today after waiting 20 minutes we had to leave as our kids were going to lose their minds. The best Pho spot on the Northwest side! My husband and I love eating here at least twice a month. We love ordering the chicken pho, egg rolls, and spring rolls. Staff is very friendly and restaurant is very clean. There is a ton of seating inside! It doesn't look very big from the outside but it's huge inside. They have TV's and music playing. Now that the weather is cooler we decided to check out Newton Pho! I loved the open concept of the restaurant and the decor, the floors looked tie dyed! We ordered an appetizer of the crispy fried rolls. These weren't very memorable, not a ton of flavor. I had the small Pho Ga (chicken) which was delicious and a generous portion size. My partner had an extra large Pho #46 and loved it. The broth was delicious and the service was efficient. We will definitely be back. read more

Newton Pho has become out go-to place for Vietnamese food. The only negative I've observed is the dishes can come out staggered if you have more than 2 people in your party. I guess they just have a limited size kitchen/staff. I can recommend pretty much anything on the menu. The Bun's and Pho of course are excellent, and in our last visit one of our party had the Kung Pao chicken which was judged excellent. Generous main dish portion sizes and a cute physics themed restaurant...but likely won't be back. The serving staff were friendly, but didn't seem fully knowledgeable about their menu. I don't blame them--from pictures posted 6-10 months ago, it looks like the menu has doubled in size. The waitstaff recorded orders per dish number, not dish name, which meant they also couldn't repeat the order back for a large group. There were also a few times where we had to bother them (not getting enough utensils, plates for our appetizers) that felt a little like they were overwhelmed despite the dining room being less than half full. Service aside, the food was...not great. The fried spring rolls were tasty and came with crisp lettuce and a small handful of pickled carrots, but weren't better than you would find in a frozen aisle of a grocery store. The banh mi on their menu came deconstructed, and the filling (a mix of egg, cheese wedge, round steak, and meatballs in a ketchup gravy?) was salty and the ketchup flavor overwhelmed any other nuance. The bread was good, but it was thick slices like Texas toast rather than the traditional baguette. For myself, I ordered a bun bo hue. The soup was very salty, and there was no heat or brightness to the soup either, so it ended up tasting like something out of a packet. There was beef tenderloin slices and ham hock, which I expected, but also a meatball-ish things and some slices of tripe that made me wonder if something else had gotten mixed up in the order. Besides these unexpected additions, there were also unexpected subtractions-- little to no sliced cabbage or any of the other toppings listed in their menu. The rice noodles were cooked well, but there wasn't a single one that was longer than my pinky. Overall, I found it hard to justify the $18 they charged for it. TLDR; I'm not sure if the owner or chef has changed since this place was recommended to me, but without a doubt: I'd skip Newton Pho. It would be one thing if this was a fusion place where these were fun spins on authentic dishes, but that's not the case here--the food is expensive, salty, and unexciting. read more

So strip mall Vietnamese place on the northwest side of town. They should do well as a lot of folks are moving out that way. The restaurant is nice and open, but the theme is a little odd, Issac Newton and Vietnamese food. I wouldn't put the two things together. The service wasn't well executed/efficient, but the staff was polite. The food is pretty good overall. The spring rolls had too much vermicelli. The chicken wings were excellent. I'm torn about this because we like Pho Newton. Never had an issue with poor service or bad food. Restaurant is clean and air conditioned so eating soup isn't a problem in the hot weather. That being said- today was a big disappointment. There is a posted sign in the restaurant informing guests that a flat $3 charge is added to any purchase paid with a credit card. That is $3. Not 3%. So if you order $15 or $150 worth of food and pay by credit card, you get charged an extra $3. We couldn't believe this and double checked with the restaurant- and confirmed. This is similar to a regressive tax and disproportionately affects those with a smaller bill. Strange new policy will piss off customers and they will lose business during these summer months when business is slow. The other disappointing change was the chili oil. It was all oil and no chili flake goodies. I even swapped with another table and ended up with just oil and a few flakes. Sad If you're a boomer with cash and don't care about chili oil - this is a good place. Will think twice before returning here. Hope better decisions will be made before it's too late. read more

I visited Newton Pho with my father-in-law, as it's close to his house and we've been meaning to try it. Our waiter was really nice, even cracking some jokes with us, and we had great service from him. The food was tasty, though not spectacular--it's not the best pho in the area, but it was fine. However, we had a bizarre experience with a different server who brought our food. I asked if the bun bo hue was supposed to come with a ham hock, and he acted like I had really offended him. It was very awkward. He told me it was extra, which was fine, but his reaction left us feeling uncomfortable.. I decided to not ask for it or any more questions. Also after taking another look at the menu it's not too clear if it is extra.. just that it is optional. So I feel like my question was just valid. Given the strange interaction, I don't think we'll be back. While the food and our primary waiter were good, the overall experience was just off-putting. read more

A very relaxing restaurant with excellent service. The food was served quickly with all the necessary sides. The small pho would actually be ample for two people. Well, we've been here quite a number of times and today was the worse, it wasn't that busy in the restaurant but we had to wave the waiter, person down to take our order (that took 10 minutes) then we waited over 1/2 an hour for just pho and shrimp wraps!!! Then she came to our table and said they were just making it, now 40 minutes later!!! That was the last draw, we left!!! It's definitely gone down hill in the last few years!!! Everything was excellent with one exception. Their $3 credit card surcharge which they include in all bill, even if you planned to pay cash. This is anew place in the NW Today I had lunch after getting my haircut next door. Third time in as many months. Last two visits were for dinner and I had ordered large Pho Bowls - way too generous. I remember making my own soup at home with the leftovers. Today, I enjoyed a small Pho Bowl and am still taking home broth! It was great, BTW!!! The restaurant is not fancy but is well decorated. I like the bright colors of the swirl design on the concrete floor. The staff is very polite and attentive. Others referred to the restaurant as typical fast food. While Pho never takes long this IS NOT FAST FOID! While you do get to choose your own table, the waitress hand dilivers a laminated menus with water in a stainless steel tumbler. I ordered chicken teriyaki and the crispy egg rolls. The teriyaki was so salty and had no teriyaki flavor. What's with the orange rice? The vegetables were soggy and they used canned mushrooms not fresh. In previous orders, the rolls were handmade in rice paper. I love Pho so I like try out different places/versions. I was intrigued by #39 Pho with short ribs. This was a nice change of pace. The flavor was good but not outstanding. Also got #5 Crispy Fried Rolls. These were pretty good. They were nice and hot and crispy. The service was very good. The staff met me as I walked in and quickly took my drink order, iced green tea. I was surprised when he was bringing a mug thinking he brought hot tea. No it was a good sized mug of iced green tea. Very nice. The decor is very fast food. Only tables and chairs, no booths. The ambiance in this place is really nice. A super spacious dining area with hints of physics nods throughout (a chalkboard with physics equations etc). Great music choice with it mostly being chill vibes. The service was great! Prompt, attentive and food came out fast. The food itself was also just what I needed. I was feeling a bit under the weather and some hot and hydrating pho sounded amazing. The beef flank was nice and tender. The noodles were plentiful and it came with a side of bean sprouts, lime, jalapeños, and mint leaf I believe. I do wish the broth was a little more beef flavored but I tend to prefer a strong beef flavor in general. The broth has both chicken and beef broth though and did the job well. I had to add some extra sauce into it to get the broth to my liking, but the size and flavor ended up being perfect. Taro slushie Boba was tasty. Dumplings and spring rolls were good. This stylish pho restaurant is located with easy access to I-10 and has good eats that keep guests of all ages satisfied. On a recent afternoon visit, everyone from families with small children to adults on workday break were enjoying their meals. A minor improvement would be having more of a lunch menu, featuring smaller portions and a few more veg options. That said, the food is great, and the portions are plentiful (so they're a good value, just a larger portion that I need at noon).
