I stopped by yesterday to put in a to go order before visiting my father in the hospital. I order a vermicelli salad with shrimp/ a spring roll and beef pho, both of which cost extra for the protein selection. They both tasted great but the portion sizes were extremely disappointing. The salad was in a standard 3-section take out container, barely filling the main section and only contained two very tiny shrimp. The spring roll was also extremely small. The pho also was very skimpy on the protein only having about 5 tiny slices of beef. The dish prices were pretty reasonable compared to many other places, but defeats the purpose of a good price when you don't get a full portion. read more

Been here twice for bahn mi and they didn't disappoint. My only complaint is the bread is more doughy than crispy.

Stopped in for lunch today and tried a few different menu items. Their steamed dumplings came with a delicious gyoza sauce, they had plenty of filling, and a wonderful texture! The spring rolls were very ok. I love spring rolls, but the shrimp taste in their rolls was really overpowering and there was a really strong herbal flavor. The Bun Bo Hue was spectacular! The broth was flavorful and not overly spicy. There was tons of sliced beef and they bring you a plate of herbs and bean sprouts to add. Our server was very attentive and helpful. She came back to our table several times to see if we were doing ok. The food came out really quickly as well. The restaurant itself is quiet and vibrantly decorated with pictures of menu items in the wall. We will come back again for sure! read more

Great service and very friendly! I've been to Dao's several times and they are consistently good. My favorite is the Pho soups but we've tried the rice and noodle dishes and everything is fresh, delicious, and well prepared. The portions are adequate to price not overly generous but still filling. I do wish they served lunch specials but that's not a deal breaker. It's a clean cute restaurant for a quick lunch or dinner. I came here with my spouse during lunch thinking they might have a lunch menu but they don't. I thought the prices were a little high with most things around $17 an entrée. Maybe that's just the norm now. The place was starting to get busy which usually indicates it is a popular and good place to eat. Once we sat down, we were asked what we wanted to drink. After our drinks arrived we were ready to order. The menu was a little hard to read as it is basically a 8.5x11 laminated sheet which combined the Thai on one side and the Chinese and Vietnamese on the other side. We ordered the Vermicelli noodles with lemongrass, usually a favorite I get at Vietnamese restaurants. My spouse ordered the Thai red curry. It took a bit long for our food to arrive but it didn't arrive at the same time either which felt unusual. Portion size for the lemongrass chicken seemed fine. For the red curry it seemed a little small for the expensive price. My noodles were served cold as if from sitting in the fridge. Chicken was lukewarm which made for an awful lunch experience. My spouse's red curry had way too much coconut milk in it. It just wasn't enjoyable. I had the spicy symbol next to mine entree on the menu, but there wasn't any spice to it at all. My spouse said their dish tasted too fatty. Meanwhile the waitress never came back to check on us. There were two waitresses there but none checked on us after dropping off the food at our table. I decided I would do better going home and heating up my lunch so I can eat it hot. We had to start starring at the waitresses until we finally got their attention which they seemed surprised. I will give you this, the waitresses are kind and polite which is nice, but they just weren't attentive and the quality of food was subpar. Due to the miserable lunch experience I won't be coming back nor will I recommend this place. I will give them credit for having a nice ambiance which included hand painted walls with Asian scenery. They also have some outside seating so you can bring your pet to the table. Finally, I noticed they do a drive thru togo service which is kind of nice. You don't have to leave your car. (TL;DR Full Price for Half as Nice) Having eaten at both locations and trying multiple dishes between them (Phó, Claypot Chicken, Seafood Curry, Spring Rolls, and Pork Stuffed Chicken Wing) i post a 1 star review not because the food/service/venue is particularly revolting, but solely on the principle that its at the end of the day, a scam. A place can be mediocre enough that a harsh review feels necessary, to steer others away in the hopes that they try better. Because we certainly have better restaurants for each of their dishes and cuisine. The distinction between each asian culinary is almost sacred, so places that claim to do multiple usually and almost always, fails to capture the essence and quality of one let alone multiple (with rare exceptions, including fusions). The quality and quantity of ingredients were lacking in every dish. The most watery peanut sauce ive ever seen/tasted. The weakest Phó broth. Inconsistent temperatures in the same dish. The protein was a bit skimpy for the extra large bowl. For example, the meatballs were sliced into 1/8 but there was at maximum one whole meatball. The food was delivered so I am unable to review service or ambience. I can only review food and packaging. Our full order included crab puffs, egg rolls, dumplings, Vegeable Lo Mein, Sweet and Sour Shrimp, General Tsao's Shrimp and Seafood Pineapple Cashew. To get the bad out of the way, I have to say that no one liked the egg rolls. I got a vegetable one and to me it tasted like no thought had gone in to making it have flavor. One of the persons dining said about the other type of egg roll that the contents contained a mystery that they did not care to solve, basically. Then, why 4 stars? The packaging was pretty basic, but the contents of each styrofoam box had been clearly labeled in lovely handwriting. That's a thoughtful touch and I really appreciated it. It would not have been enough to save them from a scathing review if the rest of their food followed the quality of the egg rolls: but, it did not. Everything else turned out be fine, except the Lo Mein. I realized that this restaurant seems to be trending toward healthier fare, so there is not the over-reliance on sugar and salt to make it more exciting. Once I got used to that idea, I paid more attention and realized that, yes, i acutally do like it. It's different but if one is not expecting to be overburdened by sauces, salt, oil and sugar, it's quite tasty. Subtle, but tasty. Except, the egg rolls that need help! The Lo Mein? So much better than fine! This turned out to be my favorite part of the entire meal. No substituted in spaghetti noodles as some restaurants go for! Healthy ingredients. Great flavor. The Seafood Pineapple Cashew, by the way, is described as varied ingredients in pineapple. I thought that meant there would be chunks of pineapple and/or a pineapple sauce and, again, I had been expecting the usual dessert-like sauce that orange and lemon chicken often have. That's not the meaning of "in pineapple." It, literally, came inside a fairly hollowed out pineapple half. I've seen such things in movies but never encountered it in real life until yesterday. I am delighted! The portions of food are generous, but not overwhelming. This lil spot is located right Accross the street from my sons place here in Tucson AZ. So as we are here doing some last second planning for his deployment he's telling me a story about this lil kid that comes in to his barber shop with an ENTOURAGE of friends with him, and who turns out to be the son of a couple who own the lil Vietnamese place Accross the street! Well I HAFTA try them!! Haha! Upon entering, its pretty busy for a Sunday (and btw THANK YOU for being open on a Sunday!!!) early afternoon. The decor is cute w it's landscape murals in the walls and plants everywhere; nice floor to ceiling windows along one side that were just calling our names on this beautiful day! First star - The lil lady who served us was on POINT. I didn't catch her name but apparently she doesn't normally work at this location; I later found out that they have two locations (???) I'm sure glad she was there this day tho as she made our day - with her light hearted banter and just Happy demeanor. She made the experience that much MORE Second star - they have Three of my Fave Asian cuisines all in one place - Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese. Add Japanese and they would have All my bases covered! Third Star - they serve Bahn Mi!!! My all time Fave sandwich (which I WILL return another day to partake!) Fourth star - they KNOW HOW TO FRY WHOLE FISH. OMG ya'll cannot KNOW how many places I've been to that don't know how to Hard fry a whole fish!! And they do us one better and Chunk the filets on either side of the fish and deep fry THOSE to a golden crisp along with the rest of the body so that the ENTIRE FISH is crispy like chips!! My son and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this experience!! Oh!!! And the prik nam pla..... She made us some FRESH and it was PERFECT W THE FISH Fifth star - BOBA!!! They have BOBA!!! Seriously in the mood for pad Thai, I had several recommendations; but my food had to be delivered and I couldn't find any Thai eateries that delivered or worked with a delivery service. Dao's claims to have Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese, and I had enjoyed their pho some years ago. So I ordered through Grubhub and eagerly anticipated my meal. I chose the chicken pad Thai. In the spot for special instructions, I asked for it to be prepared spicy and asked for extra sauce on the side. Noodles tend to soak up all their sauce, leaving a dry dish, so this was a problem-solving request. My food arrived piping hot and on time (good job, Grubhub!), and it smelled great. But my requests were ignored. The dish wasn't very spicy and there was no extra sauce, so the noodles were less succulent than would have been ideal. The styrofoam container was full, but mostly noodles and very few pieces of chicken. Some carrots and bean sprouts accompanied the pad Thai, but I would suggest adding the veggies to the actual dish so it didn't look like only a big pile of beige noodles. Peanuts really add to this dish, but only a tiny container of finely minced nuts were provided. The flavors were good but the meal missed a few steps. I wouldn't mind paying more for a decent amount of chicken, more peanuts that are chunky or even whole (peanuts are inexpensive!), and the extra sauce I had requested. read more

Not my favorite spot, I would say it was average. My family got several dishes to share, and the only one I would order again is the chicken with lemongrass. It was really tangy and delicious. This location seems to be a bit better than their other location on 1st Ave. Veggie broth pho soup may sometimes taste like water broth, no flavor. Service is inconsistent as far as quality. Sometimes we get great service, other times, poor. Prices are fair. Tofu Spring rolls are delicious as is lettuce tofu wraps. Ginger and onions make these lettuce cups! These are a bit overpriced. Fried rice lacks big time, I'd avoid at this restaurant. Bobas are good but they add non dairy creamer that includes dairy on ingredient list. Funny. Ask for no creamer added if you want dairy free. They close at 8:00pm but if you arrive after 7:25, they will practically kick you out because they like to leave and lock up right at closing time....Never liked that. read more

It was not flavorful, and the chicken was mushy. I ordered the pad thai with shrimps. For starters they use the Chinese noodle for Lo Main for the pad thai noodles. We ended up not eating anything and paying for the food. not authentic nor tasty. We explain the problem to waitress and she did not seem care. if you would like to spend your money there for a tasteless meal, please do so. My rating is based solely on the number twelve, a well portioned bowl of pho with thin sliced beef. It is the best that I've had so far in Tucson. Photos show what you get when ordering to go, as well as my prepared-at-home finished bowl of delicious noodle soup. Vegetables were all fresh and clean. Beef was sliced perfectly thin. Broth was flavorful and balanced just right. Truly a five star pho. I also tried the crab puffs, but those left much to be desired. Very little filling that didn't reflect any notes of crab, squished flat into extra crispy wrappers. I prefer a lighter fry and puffier wrapper with a hint of crab and a hint of sweetness. This was the worst Thai food experience we have ever had. The Thai Tea was good. The egg rolls were bland. The Pad Thai was inedible--way, way too sour. We complained and were told that the chef said they use Tamarind and no vinegar, as if that mattered in terms of how sour it was. We were charged full price for something we did not eat. It was pretty much $35 for two teas and two egg rolls. We will never return. That was the angriest I've ever been about a restaurant. read more

I usually get the beef pho here but I wanted to try other non soupy noodles, so I had a flight: rice vermicelli with grilled pork, seafood chow mein Vietnamese style, and chicken pad Thai. The vermicelli is light and cooling, with lots of fresh herbs and vegetables along with tasty grilled pork. The chow mein is fried crunchy noodles with a thick sauce. The pad Thai has a tangy flavor. All 3 are different and totally tasty. I called ahead and pickup the order in the drive thru window... In my shorts and flip flops. No need to get out of the car and that's perfect for those hot summer months. read more
