I went in to order a banh mi sandwich. As I was waiting for my meal, the owner and I started chatting when he suddenly asked me if I could help him with something. He then went on for about 15-20 minutes asking me if I could redo and edit his menu for him?? I am not a marketing major btw. I was taken aback by his earnestness and tried to be polite by going along with the conversation, but was getting gradually more and more uncomfortable. He then asked if I could come back to his restaurant the next week so we could work on it together or if I could call him and we could work on it that way?? Uhh no I don't want you to have my number and also what is happening, I just wanted a sandwich... (he also did not offer to pay me for any of this). Anywho, I got my banh mi sandwich and left and it tasted pretty funky. I think the pickled carrots/radish might have been slightly spoiled? I threw it away after eating about half of it. All in all, it was a super weird and unpleasant experience, and I got a shitty sandwich that cost me $15.78. Yes you read that right. $15.78. For one sandwich. Would not recommend this place. The food was amazing I ordered spring rolls as appetizers and the peanut sauce is delicious. Must have. I ordered the seafood pho and for Arizona it is the best I've had so far. Being from the Bay Area, I can find a quality Vietnamese restaurant anywhere, I can pick the nearest one and it's great. But in Tucson to finally find a good Pho spot, with some good ass Vietnamese coffee on top of it. I'm coming back, often. Shout out to Herry for the great service. Visited Pho Saigon and was very happy to find a new owner Harry Dang, a very nice guy and great cook. The menu is much better with a much larger selection of different dishes, soups, appetizers and house specialties. I chose Mongolian beef although the owner recommended another of the house specialties. My choice was very good we were treated with a sample of his recommendation and I now know what to order next time and there will be a next time. Located next to the Hakins movie theater on the Southside. Old name, same place and completely different dishes. Whole new vide and attitude and definitely worth checking out. read more

My husband just happened upon this place. We decided to get the the Mongolian beef, combo appetizer, and pho with beef. We also chose to get Thai tea with boba for our drinks. Everything is so delicious and tastes like it is fresh. They only had one server but he was doing his best to keep up with everyone. My co-worker said she frequented Pho Saigon and that she eats here when she needs a pho fix, so I decided to give it a try (for takeout). I tried the pho with beef slices and it was more than underwhelming. The container had six, thinly sliced pieces of beef, a huge bunch of bean sprouts, some jalapenos, some lime, and cilantro, nothing else. The noodles were also overcooked to the point of being mushy and the broth was very bland. I couldn't find anything redeeming about my experience and am sad that the pho version I received was so lacking. read more

Tried this place out because it was the closest pho place to me, hoping to be my go-to spot. Had ordered the pho dac biet and lemon chicken with rice. Service was good. Our waitress would check in on us pretty often. The place seemed clean and decor was fine. There wars a fair amount of customers at the time. Didn't have Vietnamese music playing when we went, which it would've been nice to set the vibe. I think it was a Christian station. When trying out pho, I like to taste the broth first after adding the herbs and veggies and before adding sriracha, hoisin, and fish sauce to get a better sense of the flavor. The pho broth was still pretty light in flavor and aroma, IMO. The lemon chicken and rice was OK. Not much flavor either and not much excitement to my taste buds. I used to love this place because it was the pho closest to home / work and I've never had bad service here until recently. I've been waiting to eat some pho here since they have a new owner. I was so exited and when they finally re-opened I called at around 6:40 to place an order of pho with spring rolls and was told it would be ready in about 10 minutes. I arrived about 20 minutes later , which my pho should've been ready by then. I then went inside and was told my order was going to be ready in another 5-10 minutes?!? I ended up waiting 15 minutes after I entered so in total 35 minutes after I called for the order and I was told I was going to have to wait another 3 minutes. I ended up wasting my entire work break and left with no pho. Waiting for good food isn't an issue but being told it was going to be ready when it wasn't and having to wait another 15 minutes was really annoying. I completely understand the kitchen being busy but transparency and honesty is also appreciated. So now I have to find a new pho spot :( read more

I love Pho and this is the only place I have found on the Southside. I love the other location, so when I saw that there was another option (slightly) closer to my home I jumped on a To Go order. My average rating was mainly due to the general appearance of the location which is in a newer and large open mall (near the theater) and despite being a recent opening it looks like they just kind of set up shop quickly and have not organized things, cluttered. As far as the food, it was exactly what I ordered and I felt the soup, meat and veggies were fresh. They were ready to check me out when I arrived and had everything in a box (GREAT because I hate bags for soups) (I'd give 4 stars for food only) I will return for to go orders and will try to visit in the restaurant in the next few months to see if they remove the clutter. Pho. I was thinking omg I can't wait. Not that great. Not that bad. Just an average bowl of soup, but not an authentic Pho. Our veggie Pho came out hot enough. It was loaded with (buttered?) noodles. Still, the usual spices that are found in a true Pho soup here are lacking. (And I know they even sell a teabag-like sachet in the Chinese stores to steep in the broth to enhance those flavors.) This was just a salted broth. Tasty enough for soup. The ingredients are fresh. And we ordered Vegetable Pho and it came with Chicken broth. Just not a true Pho. The side plate of fresh add-ins was full of the right items but sparse in there quantity. Most places in Tucson do not serve authentic fresh rolls. This location is no different. Even the menu here describes the ingredients as being lettuce, fresh mint and basil, with sauce. But what they truly consist of is tons of noodles, iceberg finely shredded with 3 1/2 shrimp sections and a few slices of tiny precooked pork. You never find this in a true Vietnamese roll. Also, they were so fat. I've never had one that far! They looked more like a burrito to me than a fresh roll. The flavor was okay just not authentic. The sauce too was just "okay". Quite watery and bland. Luckily there is a chili sauce and a bottle of siracha. Well to wrap up this story, when it's chilly out, this might be a good place to grab a hot bowl of soup. If you know what to order, this is a hidden Asian delight on the far south side of town. I've been here several times now, basically on those rare occasions when I find myself on the south side and Not craving Mexican food. Fresh Spring Rolls (#3) two for $2.75. These are not deep fried (thankfully). Instead they are wrapped in thin, semi-clear, rice paper and have shrimp, pork and sprouts with peanut sauce... good-sized, fresh and delicious! Both the Coconut Green and Coconut Red Curry dishes (choice of protein) at under $10 are very good, spicy, and reasonably large as well. I was, however, disappointed in their Pho. While the soup bowl was large, the contents were modest in quantity... lots of bean sprouts and other inexpensive leafy veggies but sparse on protein and unusually high in grease (the meatballs tasted rubbery as if very high in fat and the soup was also swimming in a film of floating grease). Parking is plentiful at this strip mall. Bathroom is small but adequate. The establishment is narrow/long with about 10 tables total. During lunch hour it's never more than half full so the lone waitress is attentive, even though there is a steady stream of takeout/pick-up orders. read more

Ordered fried tofu rolls but they just gave me regular spring rolls. Also ordered the Asian veggies deluxe with rice and ended up with a soggy melange of cabbage, onions and bean sprouts that had 2 pieces of yellowed broccoli and a couple slices of summer squash. The tofu bun had spoiled elements and the vermicelli was dry and hard in spots! My husband reported his chow fun was completely dull. Would not recommend or go back, even if free. Sad. Us south and southwest side folks get very excited when we get new restaurants in the area. Often, it feels like we are the forgotten Tucson region. This restaurant is located next to a massive Harkins movie theater - ideal location due to the proximity to a very popular area movie theater. The restaurant is shotgun style. Relatively small, and with a seating capacity of probably 40 people. Nice, casual decor. Unpretentious. Very comfortable. But something is awry here. The concern rests entirely with the food. Some of the other reviewers are spot on: the price-to-quantity/quality ratio is terribly skewed here. It's not just that these are small servings -- and, goodness me, they are! It's that you were given the very distinct feeling that you are being robbed. There are a couple of Tucson area Vietnamese restaurants I am quite fond of. Specifically Miss Saigon, Saigon Pho and Pho 88. Well, this is an adorable location with very swift and attentive service - kudos to the staff here! - the food is underwhelming. I enjoy pho, but bun, spring rolls and Vietnamese sandwiches are often my most favorite menu items. For $10 I was expecting a similar experience as some of the other Vietnamese restaurants I have visited in Arizona, California and Washington state. Nope. Spring rolls were very small. Served in a pair, they amounted to the size of one standard size spring roll - but it cost $5. The banh mi, which is also nearly $5, fit neatly in the palm of my hand. Not even joking about the teensy-weensy nature of the servings. Unusually overpriced for what you're getting. I would've preferred to have paid $6 for the entire lot. And where is the flavor?! The spring rolls were slightly dry, and the bread for the sandwich didn't seem fresh at all. It seem like it came prepared to the restaurant, instead of baked on site. Nothing had the nice, rounded flavor you tend to find at Vietnamese restaurants. The sandwich was especially disappointing. No booming flavor from slices of cilantro or jalapeño, shavings of carrots. The flavor was just... so flat. So, no, not yet a fan. But I'll likely give them another try. read more

Hi, I brought my dad and grandmother to eat tonight. I ordered the lemongrass's chicken which comes with steamed rice. I asked to substitute the steam rice for fried. Server said it was going to be a $3 up-charge, which I was ok with it. My food came and sure enough they gave me steam rice . I was hungry, my family all had their meals and the fried rice was nowhere in sight. So I politely asked the server to cancel the fried rice order, and she refused. She stood there, looked me straight in the eye and said that I could not take back my order and that I she would not remove it from the bill. I said I was going to leave a bad review and not only did I have to pay for the fried rice that didn't come with my meal on time, I paid for fried rice that was never given to me at all. I will never be coming here again and I will definitely not recommend this place. I hope it was worth the three dollars they "saved" read more
