This place has good pho and banh minh too. The food is delicious and there is a nice variety of flavors as well as boba tea to choose from. The selection is good and the amount there is makes the experience more fun when eating here. The service overall is good as well as they ring up the orders right and bring the food to you when its ready. As for the ambiance, it is also really good too due to all the nice decorations and interior. Only criticisms are minor criticisms such as some of the pho not having enough flavor. Or the pricing being a bit overpriced but that is expected in life. If you're a current student or you live near here, this is a good spot to hang out and get something to eat. And of course get a Boba tea or Thai tea on a day when its really hot out. Check it out whenever you can as it's worth it. Ok I'm torn between 3 and a 4. Wish we could give half stars. Going to give them the benefit of the doubt because the service was sweet and helpful. The new iteration of Saigon Pho is disappointing. The $10 bánh mi sandwich doesn't even use bánh mi bread! No patê nor Vietnamese meats. Just generic sweet ginger barbecue pork (not char siu) with cilantro and unpickled carrots in a generic French roll. read more

I will start this review off by saying I have eaten at Saigon Pho numerous time prior to the pandemic. This was one of my favorite places to eat pho. I will start off with the positives then work my way to the negatives which are the reasons I will not be returning to this place. Walking in you quickly see that they have done some remodeling. The menu is no longer on the wall, they have printed menus. Service was great, cashier was very friendly. There is usually never a long wait which is nice you can get food quickly. Now to the negative: As mentioned they have new menus with post pandemic prices so you quickly see the price has double. However, when you go to order the register set for a higher rate. Cashier mentioned that the price had an increased. Also I wanted to order a few items from the menu and she shared that they no longer offer some of the items. We ended up ordering the vegetable pho and the pho tai nam. The broth to both of these soups was absolutely bland, so much flavor was lacking compared to previous times I've tried it. The noodles in both was thicker and gummy texture, it made the soup taste worse. The pho tai nam was missing part of the meats, brisket was not included. OUR GO TO for eating in the university area when we come for plays or events. We love this small place. Newbies may have to adjust to appreciate due to small size, very casual counter ordering and maybe appearance. The place is not elegant, but it is very friendly and has many options for Vietnamese food. I have also had take out from here as well. They are located behind the main strip of shops on university and are not on the main beaten path so it is quieter. They have Pho and Bahn Mi sandwiches with Boba. I have never had a bad meal and often we are filled so we have to get a to go bowl. It may take you a few visits to adjust to the charm of this location and the offerings. We were guarded a long time ago, but never had a bad experience. We do see that it could be cleaner and the condiments could be wiped more often at the tables. I also ordered the rare beef and it came already cooked in the broth. Mind you with hardly any beef, this literally looks like something my 13-year-old son could've cooked. The onions were cut super big and the broth hardly had any flavor other than oil ...I would not call this authentic by any means. On a Pho kick this trip, the Pho here is very good, excellent broth! They'll happily give you extra limes, cilantro etc. The portion was perfect, walking away pleasantly full without feeling like I had eaten all of the food in the Long Bien Market. Their little pot of chili oil on the table is perfect, used sparingly it adds perfect flavor and leaves you with a little fire when you finish. I forgot how great this place is!!! I use to go here all the time during my undergrad and haven't been back in like 3-4 years. Recently had lunch with my coworkers and I was so surprise that they took over what use to be the wine tasting room right next to it to expand their seating. It was AMZING to see that they have expanded and THRIVING. I also didn't realize they had Thai tea with BOBBA! I didn't get it but I will for sure go back and get a Thai tea next time. Ever since this place got bought out by the sports bar (The Blind Pig) last May, the quality, atmosphere and service has been nothing short of miserable. As you can tell by the sharp decline in positive reviews, the food quality is incredibly poor and expensive. Everything is disposable, the atmosphere is dark with blaring music and the employees are fewer. This place used to be a comforting and authentic Vietnamese restaurant that has now been ruined by the greedy bar reputation next door. I do not recommend neither the spring rolls for their price nor the beef pho. The meat was unfortunately disturbingly chewy and I could tell that the bean sprouts had been sitting out. A quaint little outlet on the back row of University Blvd. Nice Vietnamese deco. On the wall there is a picture of Obama and Anthony Bourdain having a meal in Vietnam. It shows that even Americans love Vietnamese food. Also on the same wall, are accolades of Being the Best Restaurant in Tucson from 2016, 2017 &. 2018. The pho is one size and spring rolls are simple. There are other dishes too. Serving size and price are just right to cater to the university crowd. I tried this place two different times and it was night and day. The first time was amazing. I got the vegan vegetable soup to go. I was very excited to see all the vegan options! The small restaurant was small but stuffed with oriental kitschiness. There was no line and my food came out fairly quickly. The soup was delicious. The vegetables were fresh and still a bit crunchy. The noodles were soft but not over cooked. I did have an issue with the little packets of hoisin sauce being under the noodles. I don't know where those packets have come from or who touched them. Gross. The broth was super flavorful and again, delicious. My first experience was 4 stars! My second experience wasn't close to 4 stars. Honestly if this was my first time I'd have a hard time going back. I placed my order over the phone easy-peasy. When I arrived the floors and and a few tables were littered with trash. There was food on the floor and tables, straw wrappers, chopsticks and other bits of trash. I paid for my food and left. This time I decided to try the hot and spicy soup with imitation beef. No veggies, just noodles, "beef", and tofu. I also got a side order of fried tofu. The imitation beef was horrendous. It was bland, chewy and inedible honestly. The rice noodles were overcooked and fell apart into tiny pieces as I tried to move them into the soup. The fried tofu side while crisp, was also very bland and came with those annoying packets. The only saving grace was the broth was delicious. I'll give this place another try eventually but I advise everyone avoid the fake meat. Go for the veggies and keep it simple. read more

Tucked away just northwest of the Park and University intersection is Saigon Pho, a lovely locally-owned restaurant. It seems to cater quite strictly to the UA crowd, though I believe this is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Tucson. Granted, this place is all about the pho. Yes, Saigon Pho sells delicious spring rolls, baguettes, rice and also rice noodle dishes, but it's all about the pho. But, seriously, try the bun at least once! Saigon Pho can get quite popular during the lunch hour. Depending on your arrival time, you might find yourself changing your order to go, or sitting outside in the strange little gravel area right in front of the parking lot. I know, I know -- this isn't the spot to take a new date if you are looking for some romance. But it is the place to take a date -- or a few friends -- if you want some casual good eats. In fact, it is quite common to see groups of folks eating here. And because the orientation of the space is somewhat weird -- the building cuts in, consuming much needed seating -- it is community style in some areas. Two large tables sit smack in the middle of the establishment, and strangers are not shy about sharing the table, which is just wonderful to see. I often get my order to go, but I do love the ambiance. As for the food, I tend to get the oxtail and rare beef pho or the bun with BBQ pork and vermicelli. I love, LOVE the oxtails here! They somehow manage to cut every single little piece of fat off the meat, cooking it until it yields its rich, earthy flavor. And the broth is so light and lovely with a tinge of sweetness from the fish sauce. And I appreciate that on those many days when I opt not to order the noodles or rice, the staff is quite accommodating offering cuts of vegetables instead. I also love that no seasoning is ever required. OK -- maybe some Sriracha on my fiery days. But the seasoning is on point! I don't even understand why salt and fish sauce or even hoisin are placed on the table. Other things to try: the lemongrass tofu baguette -- so refreshing and filling and perfect for Tucson's summer days; the curry fish -- don't be thrown off by the shape of the fish. However, if given the choice, I'd rather go out of my way to go to Miss Saigon (for those who are new to Tucson: there's a location on Campbell, just south of Speedway), because the food and boba is generally better. Also, Saigon Pho might be difficult for parking throughout the week if you're not a student with a parking pass. Especially during lunch or dinner hours, there's very limited parking spaces (parking meters) on University. I mainly gave this place three stars because it's just a-ok. Ordered vegi tofu pho and thai tea for delivery. Definitely the most depressing pho experience I've ever had. Pho #22 comes with fried tofu, broccoli, carrots, and Napa cabbage and rice noodles with Vietnamese greens. I got noodles and a fistful of bitter shredded carrots that tasted like the clearance section at frys, and wilted cabbage. No tofu, no broccoli. The greens consisted of brown lime, brown basil, soggy cilantro and some bean sprouts. The broth had about 5 small slices of green onion in it. The hoisin sauce packet was rock hard. My Thai tea had black stuff in it. Yuck. I called to check that I got the right order and explained the situation. The young woman on the phone said yes you got what you ordered, and maybe they just ran out of broccoli. No mention of the fried tofu. To me, that's kind of like ordering chicken parmesean and not getting any chicken. The young woman on the phone never apologized, but did say they would remake it if I came in. I'm sick at home, which is the whole reason I splurged for a delivery, so I just said no thank you and had it refunded through the delivery service. I'll never cheat on miss saigon again. read more

This place is the definition of authentic Vietnamese food! They definitely don't try to Americanize their options, but there is still something for everyone. Their menu has such a wide variety, all with their Vietnamese names (and English translation). The food of course was delicious and a good price for the size! The thing I love most about this place is the condiments and utensils they set out on the table (chopsticks, spoons, napkins, forks, salt and pepper, Siracusa, soy sauce, chili sauce and hoisin sauce) all for your convenience so you don't need to go up and ask! (Extra points from an introvert). Their boba is alright too, a lot of unique flavors that I've never seen elsewhere! Recently they extended their seating area to accommodate larger parties, which I think was a wise choice! And the decor looks great!
