I came in two days in a row to see if things would improve. Well, yes and no. Today I requested No Tomatoes. And there were no tomatoes. Yay! But upon arrival, something very strange happened. There was a customer who was asking about WIFI. The young girl asked what appeared to be a manager (she wasn't wearing a "NEWK's Shirt"). She replied, "We don't have WIFI..." and then turned to another coworker while the customer could hear her "we don't have WIFI - never have." So I approach to order, and the girl just stares at me. I finally say hello after awkward eye contact, and she comes to and asks me what I would like to order. The complimentary bar is only half full. It's missing a couple of condiments. (?) They are frantically cleaning like they are closing and it's only 7pm. I adore blue cheese dressing. But it decided to drown my entire salad and make it a soggy mess. VERY good! Tho my husband & I couldn't spend $30 every day for salad for lunch! That's really the only reason for 4 stars. This was our 2nd visit here when passing thru. First was in June. Table with serve yourself O&V, shredded parm, breadsticks, banana peppers, & more. Only issue is the bowl size for the half salad. It's TOO SMALL! But the salad is not! Got the 1/2 Caesar. The food was moderately good the staff was polite but what I look for in a food establishment next to quality food is cleanliness! The bathroom was slippery and water all over the counters, there was water all over the dining area floors with just wet floor signs up, but no one attended to the issue, the booth benches needed to be clean and the silverware was awful. I was here before noon and at the time it wasn't even busy. AND it was very unpleasant to step around bird feces as you walk in and out of the restaurant! read more

First off, again Yelp guided me to good food. Secondly, why aren't there any Newk's in California? The sandwiches and soups are very good. The table full of serve-yourself pickles, onions, breadsticks, grated cheese and croutons is a great thing to have in a restaurant like this. New management apparently needed. They were out of cups (no big deal as they had red solos and drinks were free). But, they were also out breadsticks and the croutons were all stale! Wow. I have had better sandwiches at a gas station. The pasta salad had zero flavor. Threw it away. Tried the roast beef sandwich, do yourself a favor and skip that one. The bread just tasted like nothing. The corn and crab soup resembles an onion soup. The red velvet cake was dry. Really dry. 40 dollars for this? How are you staying in business? Went to Newk's Eatery for lunch while on business. As others have noted, this is very much a replica of McAlister's. In fact I think that it was created by the same guy that created the McAlister's. When I arrived, line was long, but they immediately brought more help to the front to move to the line along. I ordered the Newk's Favorite salad minus the artichoke hearts. The salad was good and the dressing was good. Just enough toppings and gorgonzola cheese to go great with the chicken and greens. This place is aight' lol! I walked in and it was kinda confusing. The menu is on the side of the wall. I was a looking at a catering menu for 15 minutes trying to figure out what I wanted. I was wondering why there were very few items in the menu. It was only when the line died down that I was able to see the wall with the menu, so it's not high up, look for the wall on the right next to the bathrooms? Lol! Anyways, prices are kinda high. It's a high price sandwich and salads kinda place. The kind of place to take a semi casual date when you don't want to spend too much money on but not look to cheap lol! Let's keep it real guys, and girls lol! Anyway, had the Cesar chicken salad. The full size serving was quite a lot. I finished the whole thing, partly cause I like to talk and eat...wow I must look pretty horrible doing that haha! Anyways, salad was good, sweet tea was okay, cleanliness of the place was mediocre. The restaurant is nice, the food is good, but the service is TERRIBLE. My friends and I went one night and although the restaurant was basically desolate, the service was a hot mess. I understand that not every night is perfect so this is something I can get over, but what I can't get over is being berated by the staff. An older woman was straight up rude to my friends and I after we had experienced many complications with our food. I enjoyed this experience so much that I can't wait to go back and try a new menu item! I love that the giant menu board on the wall as you enter not only lists the items offered but also the ingredients in each item. They have a very good selection of sandwiches, salads, soups, pizzas, and dessert. I also love that they offer tea sweetened with Splenda (which I ordered and loved!). I explained to the young man at the counter that this was my first visit and he was very knowledgable about the menu items and making suggestions. He also explained the process of getting your drink, the freebie condiment table that was loaded with sauces, crackers, croutons, and lots of other goodies to compliment your selection, and how my order would be delivered to my table. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on wheat with a side of fresh fruit. THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH I'VE EVER HAD!! Soooooo good! This was my second time here and it's a great place to come. I had the tomato basil soup & it was GREAT!! I'm not a big tomato soup fan, but this one is SOOO tasty; highly recommended!! I also got the Cesar salad & it was good. I like that they have it set up to where you can get your own croutons, pickles, banana peppers, cheese & spices. The croutons are tasty too, I wonder if they make their own? They have three options for tea; unsweetened tea, sweet tea & tea sweetened by Splenda (I think this is a great option). The place is clean, but the food is not good, had the grilled steak sandwich, the meat was very dry & had a strange taste to it, & the roll was toasted too much, my husband got the Margherita pizza, it was rubbery & gummy & it had 3 specks of basil on it, sent that back & he got the chicken salad sandwich, the chicken was dry & had no flavor, there was no sliced grapes or pecans pieces in it. I hate to write a negative review, but I have to on this one... The food was decent, but the service was not my favorite, only because I was kind of lied to. My very first visit to this place ended in me sending my chicken salad sandwich back because I found a hair in it... There were a few girls working right by the food & they didn't have hair nets on. My mom had commented on that, but the supervisor just said that that's because they don't make the food, they just deliver it... But a hair still managed to get in my food. The manager offered to refund me, but I'd paid with debit card, so he said he'd get my ticket & refund me, but it may not process for a day or two. I looked at my account a week later & I'd never been refunded. Honestly, its not the fact that I didn't get refunded that bugged me (It was only $8 or so.). It was mainly that they told me they would refund me & they didn't. I think that is poor management & of course, he could have forgotten, but still... You shouldn't say you're going to do something & then not do it. After all of this, I may go back if a friend suggests it, but on my own, I won't go back. I'll stick with Panera Bread for my sandwiches, soups & salads. read more

Great food, but that bathroom! It smells like straight up sewage. Has since the day it opened. Owners clearly don't give a $&#+. You can even see the sewage seep out of the foundation along the sidewalk out front. They should be ashamed. Pepperoni pizza is good. I was not too happy with the five cheese pizza. It was swimming in pesto sauce. Not great tasting. I think next time I will try it without the pesto sauce. The crab and potato soup is good too. read more

I usually like Newk's, and it used to be my favorite place to eat with friends. I went today to order a Caesar salad and, I know it's a weird request, but a plain turkey sandwich with nothing but turkey and lettuce. When I got my meal, it was on wheat bread and had cheese on it, which wasn't a super big deal but I was peer pressured to return it. Our server was super nice, and returned my sandwich. When I got it back, I looked at it and took a small bite. I heard a little laughter from the kitchen. I don't think these two things were related, but I had a small feeling. I checked my sandwich and saw a huge avacado buried underneath the lettuce. I'm very allergic to avacodos, so I'm glad I caught this before I ate it. I've usually liked Newk's but I think their service may be suffering currently. So sorry for this poor review. read more

It's sad but true that though the food is decently good, the carry out service is baaaaad. Our office (for some reason) consistently orders in lunch from this place and they regularly leave off entire entrees. This has happened three times. I know, I know...You'd think we'd catch on and double check the order before we leave. It's just that I don't think I should have to sort through eight to ten orders and double check every single one, when I just spent almost $100 on lunch. It's a decent sandwich place. It's comparable to a McAlister's as far as the format and menu choices. They do have these breadsticks that are pretty tasty. The price is a bit high for the Waco area. It's more in line with what I'd expect to pay in bigger metropolitan areas. It's certainly not prohibitively expensive. read more
