I eat there a lot, the food is usually really good. I ordered the Chicken Bacon Club and the Chicken Tortilla Soup. The sandwich was really bad, the bacon looked undercooked and the chicken was overcooked. I ate the bread off half of the sandwich, but I threw out the rest. The soup was fantastic. We got there and ordered our food at the counter, which was quick and easy. We were able to customize orders which was nice. We got our drinks and then went to look for a table. There were probably 30ish tables total, for the tables not already taken, there were no clean tables, at least 8 that we counted and checked. Cobb salad is not a cob salad. Tortilla soup was super thick with tomatos, no beans, corn or cilantro. There was something sweet in my French dip sandwich. I couldn't put my finger on it. It had very little roast beef and that was dry and looked old. I xant recommend this place. read more

I was very disappointed in the salad I received. It said it had grilled chicken and it was lunchmeat chicken. The person with me got a Caesar salad and had so much dressing on it. My sandwich was 4.5 stars. The service was 2.5 stars, at first. The menu on the wall states each sandwich comes with one of 4 sides, you pick. I picked the Italian, cause I love Italian sandwiches. She went to charge me and I said I need to pick my side. She said if I get the side, I only get a half sandwich. It's a whole sandwich, or half and a side. WHAT? I picked the whole sandwich, paid, and she walked away. I went to another employee who said yes, ALL whole sandwiches come with a side. I got my whole sandwich and side, not from her, and left. The Italian was Delicious, but kind of small for what I paid. The breads crispy crust and soft inside was wonderful! I'd comment on the food if I ever received my order, but I never did. I had an hour and a half for lunch for a training in Waco. Guess how long I waited for my food? About that long. I gave up and asked for a refund. Normally, it's whatever. I don't mind waiting for food. Except all I got was a salad. Service was friendly. Ambiance clean and comfortable. My only complaint is the French dip sandwich. I got the soup and sandwich combo. Tomato basil soup was really good! Then the French dip sandwich. It was terrible. I've never had a French dip with mayonnaise, horse radish sauce and mustard. You could not taste the meat because the sauces were so overwhelmingly nasty. Please just put cheese, onions and let the au jus complement the beef. I asked to get another sandwich without mayonnaise which they did and were super sweet about it but they left the other sauces on it. I couldn't eat it but the soup was satisfying so I was happy. If they don't change the French dip sandwich I would advise against ordering it but overall everything else my daughter and I had was terrific! read more

The ladies taking the orders were nice but a little distracted. I paid a fortune for an absolutely atrocious bowl lobster and crab bisque. Since I ordered the half sandwich half salad I would suggest a cup of soup instead. The chicken salad 1/2 sandwich was good. The avocado and shrimp spinach salad was good except for the excess of onions. The ambience was fair - a little noisy - but was the lunch hour. Overall not really a great first impression. The food was, and always is, D-E-L-I-S-H!! I usually get the Greek / Half Greek Salad, but wanted to break out of my norm. I chose the 5-Cheese Mac & Cheese. It was worth the risk. I'm disabled, and when we were ready to leave, my husband went a few parking lots across the way to pull closer. While i was waiting, several of the staff checked on me to make sure I was ok and asked if i needed anything. A couple of customers asked as well. I came here three weeks ago on a business trip. I ordered a Newk's Favorite salad and it was great. While driving through today, I stopped again for the same order. Today there was more lettuce than I remember (as opposed to field greens) and the chicken is in huge slices. Kinda hard to cut with a plastic knife in a salad bowl. Lettuce was overdressed so the dressing overpowered the other ingredients. The salad was still yummy but I'd expect the same experience from location to location in a chain and especially from visit to visit at the same location. One place that we can go with our kids and everyone is happy. No complaints because we know what to expect here. Sundays at noon there is a bit of a wait (when church gets out and this is probably true everywhere). We order the same thing every time. Cheese pizza for LO, and myself a vegetable pizza with no cheese. Always tastes good. Predictable. I personally prefer this place over any other pizza place in town because they will make me a pizza without cheese. I have yet to find that accommodation at any other restaurant. Served on our 11-grain wheat bread The bread is awesome along with the sandwich itself, the pasta salad was just okay. Order at counter, get number and then they bring it out to you. I've been to all-round cleaner, better service experiences at Newk's in Houston and Louisiana. If this was my first experience, I'd think "meh...I'll stick with Panera." However, I know Newk's can be very good. I don't know if we came in after a holiday shopping rush or the staff was just burned out. I was literally asked if the server could just take a slice of cake from the cold-to-go case instead of cutting us a fresh slice. I guessssss. My mother's Newk's Favorite Salad, while abundant, had all the chicken at the bottom of the bowl -- and I thought the chicken looked a little slimy. My Margherita pizza tasted very good, but the center 1/3 was soggy. So next time I am in Waco, I might try a local joint instead of this chain/franchise for lunch. read more

So we have received Newk's 3 times as a catering lunch by someone from an outside company. I hope we never get it again. First 2 times were different salads only. They looked thrown together, definitely some wilted, less than appetizing looking romaine lettuce, and for some reason, the chicken has absolutely NO TASTE. This last time there were about 8 sandwiches of different varieties and salads. I thought I was lucky to get a sandwich but the lettuce once again was greeny brown and tomatoes were orange and hard so I removed both. Newk's you need to do better. I always like to try something new when I travel. This place was recommended to me by an associate where I work. I went with a group of coworkers, for lunch. This place is not in California, so it was a change. The food was OK, but tasted a little commercially. It was hot, and the service was not above normal. The worst thing I had was the rice crispy chocolate peanut butter treat. It had a really odd, stale, hard taste. I was a little disappointed.
