Love it! Good location and aesthetics are nice. They have sandwiches, pizza, salads, soups and dessert and they're all good and they're reasonably priced. They're right next to Panera and they're still always busy. When I'm shopping near there I will always choose Newk's over Panera. The service is good and they're really friendly. Service good - order taker polite and patient as this was my first visit Table clean... didn't visit bathrooms While I was eating, a few tables nearby emptied near by, but no one came to clean them... still uncleared when I left so maybe close to 30 min... Ambiance? it was just a place to eat... nothing remarkable about the restaurant itself... Had the lobster bisque...an oddity in central TX so was happy to see that option.. not sure if it ever "met" a lobster as there was no lobster flavor.. I grew up in New England so know what it should taste like ideally and what might be acceptable... this wasn't it...I'm guessing that this soup, and possibly the others, are pre-made and trucked in... the French Dip sandwich was quite yummy... I ordered it like it was on menu and I was happy with the onions and condiments.... Unfortunately, later that evening, something didn't agree with me... I had the most awesomest sandwich today. I ordered the Farmer's Market Sandwich, which was stuffed with fresh vegetables and a tasty mayo. It was good and warm. I couldn't even finish the whole sandwich (it came cut in two), I had to save the rest for later. I used the app to order, then drove around to the back to pick up curbside. A young man quickly brought my food out. My order was a pretty good deal considering the size of the sandwich and it came with a side. I chose Tippah County Caviar - cooked black eyed peas with yellow, green, and red peppers from what I could tell. It was a little spicy for me, but different from the usual side. I am a big fan of the sandwich though. I'll definitely be ordering curbside again soon! read more

Ahhh, go to Newks! I go here with my parents for lunch during the week and it is always crazy busy but so worth the effort! They have fresh salads, amazing sandwiches full of meat/vegetables/cheese (etc). They don't skimp out on the ingredients. Even on the pizza! The pizza is stocked full of vegetables and meat. You can even get extra croutons, pickles, breadsticks, and peppers at the bar. The salads have plenty of dressing so if you're worried about calories definitely ask for it on the side. You have to try the Mac and cheese with bacon. It's basically heaven in a dish. You'll love it. If you don't love bacon you'll have a problem though. It's amazing! Definitely a go to lunch spot for quick meals! read more

Good food and pretty decent price. Three stars because of two reasons. First, the place seriously needs a good cleaning inside and out. Crumbs everywhere on the floor and seats. Restrooms where filthy and stunk and there where no paper towels. Outside smelt like sewage walking up and they allow birds to nest in their awnings so there is bird poop and feathers everywhere. The second reason is that when I ordered the shrimp po boy, good sandwich, the cup of cocktail sauce wasn't even half full. So I asked for extra and the new cup they brought me had even less. If your going to offer a sauce with a meal then actually provide enough to taste. read more

First timers. My daughter is new to Waco and I am visiting. We wanted something simple and different for a night in. We went to Newk's for take out. Best decision ever. Place is nice, clean and young lady who took our order was excellent. I had black and blue salad and it was great. The beef was good! Dressing delicious! I enjoy Newk's enough, because there has to be somewhere to get a good salad in Waco somewhere that can appeal to those of us who do not regularly eat salad. Pizza? Got it. Sandwiches? Got it. My salad had gratuitous amounts of meat and bleu cheese, and was great. As for all of the pizza and food and trash on the floor on the tables nearby? Not so great. We were one of maybe 5 groups of people in the store when I went last, and the employees looked like they were having a pretty hard time standing around (obviously not cleaning the mess children left all over the floor). I haven't tried their pizza yet, but it seems a little too pricey for a small size pizza, for my opinion. Came in, apparently close to closing time. My food came to the table and took a sip of my soda which was flat. I went to the worker who was dumping out the tea and closing the soda fountain & asked of i can dump out my flat drink and get anything else. She said that i couldn't; her manager asked jer to close down the beverages. She said they close @ nine and that we really shouldn't be in here. This was at 9:05pm. There are 3 other tables and we weren't informed when they asked "here or to go" that we wouldn't be able to enjoy the beverage refills or in my case one since our sprite was flat. read more

I was very happy to see a Newk's in Waco. They have a lot of different food options. From sandwiches to salads to soups and pastas. The service is usually pretty good at Newks, and Waco is no exception. They were very friendly here. The food is very fresh and they have a lot of healthy options and unhealthy ones too. They also have good kids meals as well. I had the shrimp po boy and the crab and lobster bisque. Both were very tasty. The lady at the counter, wished I got her name because she was very helpful and friendly. I would make this a regular place while I'm in Waco. read more

We ate at Newk's last night for dinner, and I've been to several Newk's before. This one was very below standards on cleanliness and food quality. My husband's turkey sandwich was fine, but I ordered the BBQ pizza and it had way too much sauce (and I usually love sauce) and the majority of the chicken was over cooked and very, very dry. The whole restaurant seemed like it needed a deep cleaning, and I observed several little fruit flies/gnats around the salad bar. The drink area was full of trash and the counter was wet. Customer service was decent though and the two ladies that served us were polite. However, I probably won't go back anytime soon. read more

I had the club sandwich and spinach parmesan soup today. Along with the tea sweetened with Splenda (which was a pleasant surprise) as I've never had that option before anywhere around here. The wait was only about 6 minutes to have my food brought to my table and I love the condiment bar with croutons, pickles, olives, peppers, cheese, etc. for free! The food was top notch, and fresh. This is a great place to eat, when you're in Waco! Great variety, fast service, and fine staff. It's sort of cafeteria style and fast food combo, but doesn't taste fast food. I'm giving one star because the pizza is delicious and I'd actually recommend it. However, the associates, with the exception of the young lady who brought our food to us, were abysmally disrespectful to my family. The staff who fixated on the millimeters between my mask and my nose, neglected to clean the table before we requested them to do so, at which point they directed my son to clean it himself with a Lysol wipe they provided. The girl who took my order -- clearly younger than my youngest child -- spoke to me in a snappy tone, while her coworker literally tossed our table number onto the counter & refused to answer a question. Mask policy is no excuse to treat patrons like enemies. We're not obligated to provide medical proof of our exemption. Furthermore, if the policy is so strict, my bank card should also be viewed as hazardous having come from my hand. Anyone who'll receive my bank card, should likewise treat my family with dignity and respect. While other patrons were welcomed with a cheerful greeting, we received glares and discrimination. These employees are getting paid to do a job. Masks are temporary, but the ill training and disrespect of these rude employees have a lasting effect. It's evident that they require more education about covid and the so-called protocol, including exceptions. read more

I had never heard of Newk's until I visited Waco one weekend with my boyfriend and his family. I would compare it to something like McAlister's or Jason's Deli... but with even fresher products. I had the half turkey sandwich and salad, and it was really wonderful. The bread was chewy and crusty, the salad was crisp and fresh... and the vibe of the place was very relaxed. They also have pizzas if you aren't in the mood for a sandwich, soup, or salad. The staff were very helpful, seeing that I took a few minutes to peruse the menu (I had no idea what was on it), and they answered all of the questions that I had with a positive and friendly demeanor. At first glance, Newk's looks like a good kid's place but don't let the logo fool you. This is a great casual dining place that does sandwiches, salads and soups very well. I've been several times and the service at the register is always friendly and willing to help. They are slow to serve, although it might be because they are new and busy. The only negatives to Newk's is the price. I think it's a little high for the amount of food you get, for example an 8oz bowl of Crab Bisque and a drink cost me over $10, which is a tad on the high side for a bowl of soup and tea. Driving from Austin to Fort Worth is a long enough drive and worthy of a food stop. There are millions it fast food places, fried chicken, burgers, you name it.. But we fancied something healthy.. After searching yelp we came across this place but outside Waco. It doesn't look great inside, and it's very basic, but they have a great selection of dishes, from pizzas, sandwiches, pasta & salads, all fresh and made there & then. The margarita pizza was ok, the salads were HUGE!! Super fresh meat and shrimp.. I even had to take some of my salad away. There was a customer who was asking about WIFI. The young girl asked what appeared to be a manager (she wasn't wearing a "NEWK's Shirt"). She replied, "We don't have WIFI..." and then turned to another coworker while the customer could hear her "we don't have WIFI - never have." So I approach to order, and the girl just stares at me. I finally say hello after awkward eye contact, and she comes to and asks me what I would like to order. The complimentary bar is only half full. It's missing a couple of condiments. (?) They are frantically cleaning like they are closing and it's only 7pm. I adore blue cheese dressing. But it decided to drown my entire salad and make it a soggy mess. As another reviewer mentioned, this place is very much like McAlister's Deli: order at a counter, you are given a number, and then the food comes to your table. The selection looked good with many sandwiches, soups, and personal pizzas. The soda fountain included Dr. Pepper (a must in Waco) and Coke products. I'm always happy to find Coke Zero and Cherry Coke at restaurant and was please at Newk's. When the food arrived, however, I was not as excited. It look great and tasted very good but there was not as much food as I expected. My boyfriend and I bought 2 sodas and two sandwiches. The total was around $20. This would have been fine but we were both still hungry after we finished our meals. In a nut shell, if you have a small appetite this is a great place. If you are a bit hungrier, check out Jason's Deli or McAlister's. If you are super hungry then you shouldn't be looking at delis. read more
