I wanted to really like this place but I think it's a miss for me. I went and dined in last week and ordered a lamb gyro. The pita had good flavor but the lamb tasted more like birria taco meat versus Greek food. The pita was also very soft and didn't hold up well. Fast forward to this evening's attempt. I ordered a chicken gyro, feta fries and a piece of baklava. My fries were literally burnt fries with shredded feta and pretty inedible. The baklava top layer was fine but the bottom layer of the phyllo was burnt, but overall soggy. The most disappointing was the gyro. It was filled with old onions that smelled as soon as I opened the box. I attempted to take them all off and salvage it with tzatziki sauce but after one bite the old onion flavor completely ruined the entire thing. So there went $20. I think this place has some potential and maybe in the future I'll try again, but buying food to literally throw it away was not on the agenda I will say the two stars are due to the two young ladies who assisted me at the restaurant. Made a quick trip to Waco to head to the silos. When we arrived in town from the DFW area, we decided to grab a quick bite to eat. Alpha & Omega Mediterranean Grill and bakery hit the spot ! As you can see from the photos the foodlooked delicious. And, the flavor met expectations. I enjoyed the grilled chicken thighs, which had a nice lemon mustard flavor, some rice, broccoli, and pita bread. I also had some chicken orzo soup, which when it first came out was tepid in temperature. However, the team snapped to action and, reheated it promptly. All in all everyone in my party enjoyed their food. Fortunately, we beat the lunch rush and did not have to wait very long to get our food and seats were ready available. We recently started a healthy eating regimen and wanted Greek. We followed Yelp to Alpha Omega near downtown Waco. We got there shortly after they opened at 11:00 due to advise on Yelp to beat the lunch crowd. There were 3 police cars parked and we assumed they were eating there as well. They were ! The food is all freshly made and delicious. I got the chicken Gyro , hubby got the beef Gyro and we both got Greek salads. Very well seasoned and fresh with great sauce. Ate lunch here yesterday with a friend. Had not been in for a while as I usually bring food in and eat at my workspace. Wow, incredible food! Nice setting also. I had the souvlaki, and we ordered chickpea balls, and calamari to share. My friend had a.gyro sandwich. First of all, without any hesitation, I can say that the calamari was among the best I've ever eaten and I've probably ordered calamari 50 times in the past two years. Amazing! Flash fried with a very tasty topping that was mostly calamari and just a thin layer of breading/coating. The chickpea balls, which my friend recommended, we're also outstanding. Deep-fried on the outside and very firm, but incredibly soft on the inside. Perfect presentation! Souvlaki was a nice size portion, which was accompanied by rice and vegetables. My friend enjoyed her gyro too. One of the best meals I've had in Waco in a long time. Also, not a long wait for the food despite a decent size lunch crowd. Nicely done! read more

I was quite surprised how good this place was. It is a super casual sit down, but the food was solid. You order at the counter and sit down. They call your name when its ready. We had shrimp, chicken and pork gyros (whole family) and everyone loved theirs. The pita is so fluffy and fresh. I wouldn't take it for take out as its too good fresh right there. Alpha Omega is my favorite place to eat when passing through Waco. Their beef gyro is like, $6.50. I add fries to mine. The baba ganoush is amazing but the real star is the pita bread. Homemade, soft, melt in your mouth but thick enough to hold up to it's fillings. Give me a stack of that pita bread, some falafel, baba ganoush and go away! Their desserts may be the best I've had in this town. Idk what you call it but of them has a baklava or kunefe type base with a Bavarian cream filling and whipped cream on top - heavenly. We were going through Waco for a trip and we stopped here for lunch and it was by far the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. My family loved it. I personally enjoyed the look of the restaurant aswell with brick walls and nice decorations. Service was also good. As someone who loves Greek food- Waco missed it with this one. The "on the spit" meat is pork, so a pork gyro was suggested. It was nothing but fat and onion rolled up in a pita. A disappointment. The hummus was the redeeming factor for the meal. I wish I could give more stars but with a limited menu and poor quality.... Review is based on a to go order. Food was solid but customer service was not impressive. I had the simplest order hoping it would be hard to get wrong. The small Greek salad came with balsamic that I didn't use. I also ordered the dip trio with pita, olive dip, humus and tzatziki. I was happy with everything except the olive dip. As someone else mentioned, it tasted like chopped black olives and not much else. I used the tzatziki as my salad dressing and appreciated both the flavor and textured of the pita. I only interacted with staff for maybe 30 seconds. My order was ready when I arrived but I had to initiate everything. Staff waited for me to approach, give my reason for coming to the counter, etc. A simple greeting to break the ice would have been nice. The lack of interest cost them a star. I took off the 2nd star for the lack of utensils and napkins. Maybe there's an area where I was supposed to pick these up but it would have been nice to know. I blame the lack of customer service for the oversight. I was at a hotel so I actually needed a fork. Of course I didn't know until I got all the way back to my room. The food is worth giving them a 2nd chance but if the experience is the same, it will be my last. read more

Hewitt Location: Went for a visit this afternoon. Food was salty with no flavor. Service - horrible. Lots of staff members but service was not existent. AC broke down while we were there, no announcement was made by the staff. They just locked the front door with no instructions where to exit. While we were passing through town, we heard of the most rated Mediterranean restaurant was alpha omega. We went in during peak lunch hours. Although it was busy, our food came out pretty fast, around 6 min. I was recommended by the cashier trying the ribeye gyro. My fiancée had the veggie gyro and the fried chickpea balls. The ribeye gyro was delicious and filling. I was warned that it was going to be heavy but it was so worth it. I love the mushrooms sauce inside the gyro. My fiancée said that her veggie gyro was flavorful but salty. The fried chickpea was also salty as well. However, she really enjoyed the chickpea balls. Overall, the food here is better than your typical Mediterranean food we had tried before. The portion and the price was definitely worth it! read more

The shop has that stucco brick interior Mediterranean ambience look and a long hallway with the dining eating area along side if the wall. I went directly to the register where the countertop display case of baklavas were. Paid my orders and sat down with my family. The triangular sliced layered phyllo dough and walnut fillings are so soaked in the honey syrup so sweet and moist ,I really enjoyed every bite of it. @$4.50 each. The Baklava Tulip Cheesecake looked so appetizing and tempting so I got to try one. This Layers of phyllo dough with walnuts made into a tulip, was filled with cheesecake and topped with white chocolate mousse and glazed slice of strawberry. $4.50 Well biting into this tulip looking cupcake got messy due to the mousse topping so I had to use a fork to cut into bite pieces and shared with my grandkids. They loved all of the sweets and were bouncing off the walls after. We tried the macarons too, blue was coconut flavor and yellow was the mango flavor. Not a fan of the taste. $ 2.50 read more

If you are used to gyros with the beef and lamb combined and sliced from a cone of spit roasted meat, this is not it. I just learned the beef/lamb mix is more Turkish than Greek. This place however is real Greek! Nice place in a revitalized part of Waco not far from Magnolia restaurant. Has chicken, pork, beef or lamb gyros and kabobs. Fresh homemade pita bread was fluffy. Me and my husband had the lamb gyros. He had the feta fries and I had the Greek salad. The salad was good but had a balsamic dressing. I was thinking it would be a lemony dressing a lot of places have but it didn't. It was good just not what I was craving. There were a couple thin slices of tomato, a couple cucumber slices, some red onion and a couple or three green olives. I was a bit disappointed by that, but it's ok. The pita bread was not the texture I have had before. It was just different. It was fresh today and nice. The lamb was probably braised and it WAS juicy and seasoned but not the flavors I would am used to in a gyro. It was shredded as well, very different. My husband doesn't complain much when it comes to meat so if he doesn't like a dish, there is something wrong. Neither of us enjoyed the gyro and did not finish it. Just not what we were craving. I'm sorry about wasting it. I can't vouch for any other dishes they serve and there were plenty of people in the restaurant so people obviously like it. It is in a trendy area too. So my new co-workers have been raving about this place. I got the wife onboard and we went there today. For starters leave your expectations at home! There is a parking, in the downtown area, just for this place. Atmosphere is rustic, modern, and comfortable with good relaxing music. For an old industrial brick and cinderblock, they have decorated well. The wife and I tried the lamb gyro, fries, and the 3 Spread Sampler(Humus, Tzatziki, and Olive spread). We started with the sampler. The veggies we received were cucumber, carrot, and celery. The hummus was basic and yet amazing, the tzatziki felt homemade with fresh ingredients and therefore less sweet than I normally have, and the olive spread was excellent. The Pita was the simply the best pita we have ever had, seemingly hand made on a comal of my home, crispy on the outside and soft, fluffy goodness in the inside. While it was not what I have ever experienced in pita around the world, I, the ever traditionalist, will gladly leave those lesser pita for this yummy goodness. The fries were perfectly cut Greek style fries, perfectly seasoned, enough salt to be tasted, not too much and with a Mediterranean spices drizzled on. When eating a Gyro in most places you get the meat mixture on a vertical doner spit. Here the lamb came like pulled pork style, almost shredded with a sauce. The same tzatziki diced tomato and diced red onion were plentifully slathered in. While I did not mention this before, we got the Baklava Cheesecake. Not very sweet, but perfect balance of flavors. Women's room gets an A. Mens room gets a B+ because the door does not close well and the lock sticks. Bus your own table. Definitely adding into our rotation. read more

I never thought I would make it back to alpha omega. Low and behold, my friends convinced me to return while visiting them in Waco. I will say I am pleasantly surprised. The prices are very good. A beef gyro was around $5. The pita was extremely fresh and soft. The protein portion was very generous in these gyros. We ordered a side of fries which appeared to be fresh cut. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They also sell Greek wines which is a very nice touch. My friend me enjoyed their lamb gyros which are about $10/ea. read more

I can't say Alpha Omega is the best Greek food in Waco because I haven't tried the other places, but I love it so much that I don't need to! It's not the most friendly of places, but it doesn't really need to be. It's good food. It has a cute brick wall interior with paintings for sale hung all over the walls. During the day it's lit by sunlight and it's a wonderful place to grab lunch with friends. You can order takeout online via their website and it's super easy. I always get the chicken gyro here and I am in love with it. It's consistently good. Their Greek salad tastes great and fresh, and their fries are barely-there-crispy on the outside and soft inside. I've also tried the Pesto Chicken, which is amazing. The gyros are very fairly priced at just under $6, making this a great place to grab lunch! I also like their drink machines, I've made a nice raspberry lemonade tea by combining a few things. I haven't tried any of the desserts, but they all look amazing and fresh!
