Found the place on Yelp and wanted to try it on our trip back from Houston. I loved the concept and was excited to try it. They are located in an old Sonic drive thru. You walk up to the window and order. The man was very helpful in answering our questions. We both selected the smoked chicken with sweet chili sauce. Drove from Denver to have YAKI again! We tried it a couple months ago when we were in town and had took a detour to Waco for a second helping. The Nug Chicken is wonderful. The teriyaki rice + fried chicken nuggets + crunchy slaw served in Chinese food takeout boxes is tasty, refreshing and fun. Brisket is also excellent as are the crispy waffle fries. Servings are generous, enough for 2 meals. Service was friendly, helpful and quick. The colorful quirky drive up adds to the upbeat vibe. Don't miss it! read more

I ordered their Nugg box and it was a good amount a food with very nice taste combinations between the coleslaw, rice and the nuggets. I also ordered an extra helping of the chili sauce, which was very nice however didn't taste any teriyaki to speak of. That's a bit mystifying as the name of the restaurant is Texas teriyaki overall decent amount of food for an average amount of money that you'd spend and quite nice. There's some other options on the menu. I might try at a later date. read more

Hate to say this but I'm knocking off a start. Service and atmosphere has, sadly, gone downhill. When they first opened, and were in the truck, the service was on point. The owner was friendly and engaging. The last few times my family has been here, we weren't greeted. If anything, it felt like we were disturbing them. Just left after a late lunch. They missed the first thing we ordered and, when we kindly asked about it, we were told that they didn't hear it, even though he confirmed after I ordered it. No apology when we asked about it, and no apology when it was brought out. Again, it felt like we were disturbing or inconveniencing them. Service needs some improvement, for sure. Don't love that they charge for sauces. Not bad at fifty cents, but it's a tiny serving that isn't enough for a teriyaki box. Think at least one sauce should be included with the price of a teriyaki box. Especially at the price point. The space to eat feels dirty. There is garbage on the ground and weeds growing through the rocks. Just not a good vibe. Only knocking off a star because the food is still on point and delicious, and I really want them to do well. The branding still makes me smile. And Yaki is still worth the visit if you don't mind the not so great service and are going to do take out or don't mind the lacking atmosphere. Want them to do well. The food is fantastic, we love the branding, and Waco really needs a spot like this; they're one of the few places serving up unique and tasty Asian food that would give any great spot in a bigger city a run for their money. The food had no flavor, I did not taste the teriyaki at all. I asked for extra teriyaki sauce and they gave me the teriyaki sauce that you cook with and not the sauce that you use to top off. That wasn't even my biggest issue. My biggest issue was the young white male who took our order. He was very condescending and rude to us. His tap machine wasn't working. I moved my phone around different ways and tried to tap it upside down and he even made the comment to let me know that he's never seen anybody try to tap their phone that way he continued to have issues with their tapping machine that I was trying to tell him about a software he could download trying to be helpful and he was very condescending towards me. He kept making rude comments under his breath. He kept rolling his eyes when we were ask him questions about the food, mind you we are not from Waco. We were just driving through. When he brought us our food, he was very cold towards us. I saw other white patrons come and they were very kind to them where we got the feeling that we were annoying them. As I looked for my post race meal, Yaki popped up, and after reading the other reviews I knew this was the place to go. Everything was DELICIOUS. First, everything is gluten free which is great for those with a gluten allergy and still great enough for those who do not have a gluten allergy. The rice was cooked perfectly. Definitely not a day old, perfectly soft but not mushy, and a great vessel for the rest of the meal. I get nervous about teriyaki sauce, even when gluten free, because it can be far too sweet and ruin the dish. The teriyaki here was great and perfectly balanced by the rest of the box. Smoked chicken had tons of flavor. Perfectly smoked and still very tender. Paired with their simple slaw, sesame seeds and a perfect amount of rice, this was a delicious bite. I added the spicy mayo sauce, and that kick was great. I loved the spicy green sauce; it had a swift kick to the tastebuds, and it was worth the heat! We got the brisket and pickles box as well, and I was pleasantly surprised how good the combo was and how much I enjoyed the chopped brisket; it wasn't super fatty or heavy, and it was a perfect amount of food for the price. Kiddo got the kids smoked chicken rice box, and he ate every bite plus some of our boxes! We paid maybe $33 before tip for all 3 boxes which was a steal to be honest. They opened during lockdown, and they're still going which is testament to how good their food is. Add a trendy, brightly colored building, clean, drive up and picnic tables if you want to eat outside the car, and some great tunes, and you'll be all set for lunch or dinner. Absolutely incredible meal at Yaki! I ordered the Nug Box, and wow -- it was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. The balance of crispy, juicy chicken with the rice, slaw, and sauces was spot on. The spicy mayo and sweet chili sauce were especially outstanding -- I could eat those on everything! Our kids also got the nugs and fries, and both of them declared it was better than Chick-fil-A -- which says a lot! They even finished their entire meal, which doesn't always happen. Huge win for family dinner. We don't live in Waco, but Yaki has quickly become our must-stop spot anytime we're visiting or even just passing through. The food is consistently amazing, and it's the perfect place for a quick, casual, and incredibly satisfying meal. This was delicious, but definitely not what we expected. It was like BBQ meets rice bowl. I had the chicken bowl. It was very flavorful smoked chicken (like from a BBQ restaurant without bBQ sauce) served over a toasted sesame rice & topped with slaw. Absolutely amazing!! High quality and affordable fusion food (Texas smoked meat meets pan-asian). My husband said it's one of the best meals he has had in Texas! The smoked meat is very flavorful, tender, and savory which perfectly complements and balances the fresh slaw and veggies. They have a variety of sauces to choose from. Place be looking like a food truck that planted its roots because its food is mid at best. You're greeted with a box full mostly bland warm coleslaw with mid rice. No flavor. The meat which seems to make up only 15% of each dish is the only good thing. Needs a HUGE revamp. Or shut it down read more

We really enjoyed dinner here. We got a pork box, a poke box, a kids box with chicken and vegetables, and a combo. We all loved our food. The kids box had broccoli and mushrooms and each ingredient was in it's own corner of the box, which is perfect for small children who might not want different foods to touch. For drinks we got cans of soda and Topo chico. Order at the window and they bring out the food. There are nice picnic tables to sit at. I've been a customer since they started outside of One Day, then continued to be a very consistent customer at their truck outside of pinewood. If my review was based solely on my experience at the truck it would be 5 stars, great flavor great portions and quick service basically everytime. Every sauce is also delicious although the honey mustard and sweet chili stand out for me. Even with no extra sauces it's great, moist chicken with good flavor perfectly cooked rice and the slaw gives just enough freshness. Here's where things get complicated, there is a drastic discrepancy in portion size between what I was getting at the truck and what they're serving at the brick and mortar on Valley Mills. I have also experienced something similar to someone else who left another review in that they seem to be forcing you to use either the QR code at the drive in stalls or their website to order. Just this evening I drove up and ordered at their walk up window where they didn't exactly seem thrilled to be having to interact with a customer who wants to order his food from a human being. I can't possibly KNOW if this is the case, but my assumption is that exclusively online ordering is meant to cut down on cost, but that doesn't seem to line up with the decreased portion size I've seen at the brick and mortar. Sad to see this happen but it's enough to keep me from coming back. read more

Lots of mayo!! Unless you love mayo, do not get the slaw. I got the chicken box with light slaw and rice; it was served with a layer of rice, then grilled chicken, then slaw and sesame seeds. The slaw was not light. I also got extra chicken and the portion was fair for the uncharge. The grilled chicken was good and the rice was fine, basic brown rice. However, the slaw is basic mayonnaise cabbage slaw with sesame seeds. The only real flavours are the mayo and the smoky flavour of the grilled chicken. The portion is huge so the price is fair; however, due to the mayo on the slaw, it cannot be safely reheated so I would recommend sharing or getting no slaw. There is not option on the site link to ask for the slaw on the side. This would be a great addition to the site link. It also says it comes with sauce but again, the only sauce present was mayo. read more
