I was so excited when I jumped onto Yelp to find a place for dinner that there was a Velvet Taco walkable from my hotel. I've been to Velvet Tacos in Fort Worth, and it's been a while since I've had it. The service was helpful and kind. They allowed me to remove what I didn't like on a taco. The tacos were delicious. The margarita is no joke- be ready to feel it halfway through it. If you don't, then ask for the extra shot. The restaurant was a good cool temperature, and the decor is fun! Just go! read more

Velvet Taco - Closed - So good! - Tacos Near Me - Waco, Texas

Generic Velvet Taco This isn't a real VT, no signature tots, no avocado crema sauce, and when you order the Quesabirria you only get one, unlike at real VTs where you get two. If you're used to real VTs don't bother stopping at this generic version, but if you're from Waco and you don't know any better...you're getting ripped off! read more

I Like the ambiance & great prices and clean! More later in my review... Update:..... Sooo Oh My Gosh! I'm blown away how great this place is! The employees are helpful, knowledgeable & kind! The food was excellent! I had a rotisserie chicken taco and half of a Kobe smash burger taco! We had the chips and guacamole classic! Sooo delicious! My hubby had the fish & chips and the Cuban tacos! He devoured them quickly! Everything was fresh and delicious! We will definitely be back! read more

Velvet Taco is always a 5-Star (sometimes just 4) review for me. A few months go they inflicted the "Bowl-Replaces-Weekly Taco Feature" fiasco on us adoring fans, but thankfully brought the WTF back, and I returned as a faithful customer... But yesterday during my weekly visit, my wife and I were very disappointed to discover the menu has been entirely revamped! Gone are our favorite tacos! No Birria, no Korean pork, no Fish'n'Chips, no Salmon... Half the dips for the chips are gone as well. I'll probably still come for the WTF each week, but extra visits for my faves will likely stop as my faves are gone. There are only 10 taco choices left on the menu now. Sad. I guess Mod Pizza next door will go back into my lunch rotation and start getting regular visits from me again (It was a weekly stop for me until Velvet Taco thrilled me with their exciting form of taco). Hopefully, like the WTF, the other tacos on the menu will return if enough VT fans complain and plead again. read more

As we travel we face challenges in finding decent food at an affordable price. Velvet Taco has a a go-to when we're in Texas as the quality is great and service is dependable. This location in Waco appears to be newer and we will stop in again on our next trip. read more

I'm a big fan of fusion, so I will eat here again the next time I'm passing through Waco. In fact, we're now planning to stop here again tomorrow on our way back to the Austin area from Dallas. Two highlights: 1) We're not vegetarians, but the Mediterranean Mushroom taco was really amazing. It was one of four tacos the two of us tried. We both thought it was the best of the bunch. And we will both order this on our return trip. 2) Their ranch water (cocktail) was outstanding. I had the grapefruit version. They added a fresh slice of grapefruit, which was a nice touch, and served it with a grapefruit flavor Jarritos instead of Topo Chico . It was honestly better than some of the ranch water cocktails I've had in high-end steakhouses. We tried three other tacos. Spicy Tikka Chicken, Korean Fried Rice, and a Fish 'n Chips. Those were 3 1/2 to 4 star tacos but could have been five star with some adjustments. The first one was not spicy (as labeled). The second was not remotely Korean, nor was it Mexican (pineapple on a taco?). And regarding the third, who puts honey mustard on fish 'n chips? And the "chips" (french fries) were julienned potatoes that were not crisped up in the least. They looked steamed. To be fair, though, they were pretty good tacos. We enjoyed them, though they certainly have room to continue adjusting their recipes in order to blend Tex-Mex with specific international flavors in a manner that doesn't introduce additional, competing flavors that don't belong in the mix. But look -- it's a big menu. You'll have no problem finding something that you've never had before that you really like. And that makes this a great culinary experience. They may not have a wait staff (you order at the counter) and you may not love the ambiance (you can see their open storage area in the back corner). But it's still a food destination. If you find yourself in Waco, you should swing by and give it a try. read more

Ordered Velvet Taco and was so excited to finally try it! I ordered the Quesa Birria duo with Elote and chips, and a red velvet slice for dessert. My first, second, and third bites were all tortilla, so I opened up the tacos to find that there was barely any filling in the tacos. These were also the most flavorless birria tacos I've ever had in my life. The consomé tasted like week old broth, and the elote was just absolutely disgusting and cold. The only thing that was worth the entire meal was the red velvet cake. Holy cow that slice was amazing! 100/10! The caramel sauce was sooo heavenly! That is the only reason they're receiving two stars instead of one. This place prides themselves on bold and vibrant flavors, but you'd find a similar flavor profile on the Taco Bell menu. read more

Cute decor, a wide variety of taco choices. I will say this is not Mexican food. Not at all. More like "small plates" & the flour tortilla is the plate. The tikki masala chicken, Mexi-Cali shrimp are great. Try the menu items with the heart first. Favorites ! Would like to try more. It's usually pretty busy. I will say the taco prices are reasonable for the vast array of tastes! Everything was fresh & sauces well chosen. One thing, please add plates or little paper boats. The tables are not cleaned between customers. The roll of paper towels isn't a good thing. Some attention is needed here, even for health reasons. read more

Trend alert! If you are looking for a hip place to eat, this is it. Very trendy, vibing, and youthful. The food is tasty, but I have to admit, it just a lot of randomly tasty food placed on a tortilla. What I mean by that is , a delicious kobe beef or tiki masala, and instead of having it over rice or with a potato, it's just with a tortilla instead. Some people find that cool. Very vegetarian and vegan friendly. Velvet taco might have better tacos than torchy's according to some, but if you actually looking for Mexican tacos, go elsewhere. Also, kind of pricey in comparison with Tex-Mexican food. They ask you to tip, but there is no table service of any kind. read more

LARS at the Velvet Taco Waco Texas location was very courteous, professional and friendly. The establishment was clean. The employees are customer service oriented. This was my first time trying. I've been wanting to for months. They have a drive thru which was convenient. The only reason I took a star was there was no line and I still had to wait 20ish minutes for my order. BUT... the tacos were excellent. Like amazing flavor profile. I got the tikka chicken and the brisket with the crispy cheese tortilla. The brisket slightly wins just because I don't feel the tortillas are homemade. So crisping it really added more flavor. But truly very tasty. I also tried the regular queso. Also really good. I'll be back to dine in and try the Thai queso, and maybe a couple other tacos. But they put a lot of care into the packaging and prep and it shows. read more

Fantastic tasting food with a flare for the unique! You won't regret making this a regular stop for lunch or dinner.

Great tacos. Very flavorful. Not your typical tacos. Very willing to customize order. Enjoyable and I will return

I was excited for this location to open after trying Velvet Taco at a different location. My wife and I were very impressed with the quality service and the food was great! The atmosphere is very welcoming and the patio is a nice plus. One tip to the owners and managers, please keep up with the maintenance and don't let it get run down like many other restaurants in Waco. We used to enjoy Torchy's Tacos but it is so dirty and run down that we will never go there again now that we have Velvet Taco! read more

The food is amazing so just know that's not the reason for the low stars. For the size of the tacos they're a little on the pricey side. Also if you're ordering pickup or from the drive-thru the wait is way too long. It feels like your waiting for food at a sit down restaurant. Good food but not the best intangibles in my opinion. Velvet Taco - Closed - Ordered the #17 Mexicali shrimp and the #2 Rotisserie Chicken they were both so good!! The sangrita swirl was stout! - Tacos Near Me - Waco, Texas

First time at this location... sad I came. Customer service was blah, we waited in the drive thru and no one came to the window. Went inside to place a to-go order and no one was in the store (expect for 2 worker w/computers). What was the wait for? Ordered 4 tacos that took forever to make. Glad the food wasn't trash. I'll drive to Austin before I visit this location again. read more

The customer service I received today was stellar. I let one of the leads know the Dr Pepper was out and need to be replaced. Her response was to give me an ice cold can of Dr Pepper while I waited. That was quick, immediate, and natural and I thought so highly of this establishment immediately. Go to Velvet Taco by Baylor! read more

First time at a Velvet Taco restaurant. I ordered at the drive thru. Staff was courteous and my brisket taco (minus the aeole sauce) arrived in short order. I arrived back at work to enjoy my lunch. The taco was very salty to the point it was not enjoyable. I had a friend taste it to check against my taste, it was very salty to him as well. I hope this was an exception in the quality of their food because I went there on a recommendation. read more

The fillings for tacos were so good. We had the WTF (Mango Jerk-churri), fried paneer, sweet chile shrimp, and grilled flank steak. Yes, I said the fillings were good, that's because the tortillas could stand to be heated. They were cold and tough. We also had red curry queso and chips. The queso was salty. You could order from tableside but oddly the app didn't allow ordering the fountain drinks at all. You only had choice of soda cans or bottled water. So we had to get up and order at the counter. read more

Tacos were excellent! Everything is great! Interesting mix of flavors. Service was friendly and attentive.

They have a surprising amount of variety for a fast-food taco restaurant. Also, they will customize your order (accurately) without qualms. Most importantly, however: 1. The queso is excellent. 2. They have a lot of vegetarian options. Not the take-meat-off-a-regular dish vegetarian options, but pre-designed vegetarian. The cauliflower tacos were my favorite. read more

Very strange combinations. A rep brought us this for lunch. It's too weird for my palate. The pulled pork one was decent. The chips were good. I would not go here on purpose. If you are an adventurous eater and like odd combinations this place is for you. It's worth a try once. read more

Queso was good, taco's pretty good. But there is an employee problem of hogging the men and women's restrooms. The whole time we were there at 6:15 thru 6:55 on Friday evening only one customer got to use the restroom. And it was couple w a child sharing the men's. The whole time it was employees and no one else had a chance. So outlaw the phones in restroom for employees!!! Then they won't take as long. read more

Creative taco menu with lots to explore. Tikka Masala tacos are really good. Fresh ingredients. Good queso and awesome red velvet cake.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. The food that we were given was cold. I've been here twice and thought maybe the second time it would be better but it honestly wasn't. We also ordered our chips and queso first before ordering tacos and still ended up getting it after our tacos were ready. Just to receive cold food after sitting for over 30 minutes. I would not recommend eating here especially for an over priced taco. read more

If I could give a zero star I would. We ordered and then sat for 30 minutes along with 3 others waiting for our food! Then when we finally got it we got soggy and cold food. PLUS they messed up our order. They have good potential and a pretty building but it was terrible dealing with the wait time and the readiness of the food! read more
