Word of wisdom to the franchise owner, put someone up there that wants to be there and represents with a smile. The girl literally told us to use the machine instead of helping us. We stopped in Waco and ordered a spread--salmon bowl, chicken bowl, quesadilla, crossroads taco, and of course, queso. Everything tasted fine, nothing suspicious, but little did we know that lurking inside was a bacterial surprise package waiting to detonate. Within hours, our family of five (plus some brave friends with us) were suddenly becoming connoisseurs of Waco's restroom scene. We didn't plan on patronizing half the city's bathrooms, but thank you for the unintentional "toilet tour of Waco." Our kids were especially confused--one moment enjoying tacos, the next wondering why their tiny bodies betrayed them so dramatically. When they say "damn good tacos," they mean it. Torchy's is a TX staple, so you know I always have to stop by whenever I'm nearby. This particular location can get pretty packed when school is in session - but our most recent visit on a summer afternoon for lunch wasn't busy at all. My husband and I split an order of chips and guac, along with two tacos each. I got my favorite, the Fried Avocado, along with the Jerk Chicken, which was new to me, and quite tasty! The service was great throughout our visit - and the counter service and casual atmosphere makes for a nice, chill lunch. We (two of us) split an order of chips and queso and three tacos which was the perfect amount of food. These are relatively bigger tacos and are pretty filling. The queso has a bit of guacamole in the middle which was a tasty surprise. As for tacos we tried the Trailer Park, Brushfire, and Democrat. Of the three my favorite was definitely the Democrat taco which had a flavorful barbacoa topped with avocado and cotija cheese. We were in Waco about 6 months ago. We love Torchy's so we're excited to see there was one in Waco! We had a not so great experience & posted a review with pictures. Management quickly contacted us & let us know they would try harder. That's all we ask: care about your business & your customers! And I hate writing bad reviews so we removed the review after management acknowledged the issues. Plus it was right after Covid so they were still trying to hire & train new staff. I ordered the democrat and the crossroads with a side of avocado salsa. So good! I definitely prefer the Crossroads but both are still delicious! After reading the reviews, "college-great" is how I would describe Torchy's. We came after hearing so many great things from our friends. It was absolutely packed on a Sunday night with the line out the door. The chips and queso was hands down the best thing on the menu. The chips were so crispy and flavorful! Possibly top 3 tortilla chips I've had. The tacos though...were just average. (We are from San Diego the land of tacos so we are pretty spoiled.) Here is how I would rank them from best to worst: 1) Republican - I would come here again just for this and the chips/queso. So juicy and flavorful! 2) Fried Avocado - pretty unique. 3) Crossroads - Flavor was good but the brisket was pretty dry. Disappointed in this one. 4) Trailer Park - Had high expectations when I saw fried chicken in a taco on the menu, but it just fell flat.
