The food was excellent as always but there was no AC inside. The heat index was over 115F and everything was sticky and you would sweat eating inside. They had some industrial fans outside but it was just pushing the hot air around. Food came out pretty quickly so the service was good. read more

When in Texas I have to come to Torchy's for at least one lunch. I did give another Torchy's a 5 star. This one didn't get a 5-star because of the slow and not attentive service (would give a 4 1/2 if we could give 1/2 stars). My favorite thing is the green chili queso. I could eat it by the trough. I will always order it and am glad there isn't a torchy's near me or I would want it every day. The variety of pescatarian tacos is impressive. This is one of the few places that have so many options for me that it is hard to pick when I go here. In my pics, you will see which ones we Mr. Pink Taco (tuna taco) and the special taco of the day Mr. Miyagi. Our other two were the fried avocado taco and Mr. Orange Taco (salmon taco). read more

Torchy's Tacos - Grande Burrito with shrimp and salmon - Tex-Mex Near Me - Waco, Texas

Pretty good food, the brisket was so bad though. Like literally dry dog food. My husband liked it though. He said it tasted like pulled pork. But I literally took one bite and didn't finish the taco. BUT- The queso was amazing!! And I really don't like all the demonic decor. Won't be back just for that reason alone. read more

The food was delicious and very reasonable. My friend and I will definitely be back and I want to try different things because the menu was filled with good creative options . The place was upbeat and clean with outdoor eating as well in the shade and under umbrellas and after you ordered at the counter they gave you a pager and delivered your food within just a few minutes. No wonder Torchys is a popular Baylor Hang out - Close to campus and the 35 interstate. read more

I ordered a patron margarita and watched a woman make it with well tequila. When I questioned her about it, she shrugged and said, "this is what my manager tells me to do." I said, "you know that is wrong, right?" She didn't care. She said I'll just give you a shot of patron on top. She didn't offer to remake it. This is fraud. I've not been back and don't plan to ever return. read more

Was visiting the Waco area and saw the reviews for Torchy's and decided to give it a try. Unbelievably flavorful food and very helpful and attentive staff. The cook came out to make sure everything we had was done right and that we were satisfied, also she told us her family had 5 generations invested in the business. I highly recommend the Baja shrimp tacos, and they beef fajita taco was excellent as well! If you're in Waco or visiting Baylor, DEFINITELY stop at Torchy's! read more

If nobody has told you to try Torchy's Tacos, I'm telling you now! My significant other had eaten at the one in Houston before, so we figured we'd give this one a shot! We stared with chips and queso. The cheesy dip was served hot with a bit of spice and a ton of flavor!.. so good we brought the left overs with us! She ordered the chicken fajita taco, which came fully loaded and packed with flavor. I ordered the Baja Shrimp and Democrat taco. Both had so much flavor, and such fresh ingredients. I have a feeling I'll be making a stop anytime I'm in the area for more awesome tacos! read more

The burrito I had was so big I only ate half of it. The queso dip was amazing and my husband had two different types of tacos and said they were some of the best he ever had. Highly recommend this fun little place in Waco read more

Fast food, yet not too fast. On our way from Dallas to Austin. Ordered the chicken quesadillas, independent (portabella tacos), mr orange (blackened salmon), brushfire (jerk chicken), chicken fajita, Tipsy chicken. Imbibed: Corona, lone star canned beer and a Mexican mineral water. My FIL thought his mr orange was so tasty and that my elote corn was good as well. The elote tasted too overwhelming with spicy and seasoning that it was hard to tell I was eating corn at all. My independent portabella was admittedly too breaded for my liking. My husband devoured and inhaled his quesadilla and his 3 chicken tacos. Everyone enjoyed their foods loads except for me, was not impressed or elated with my meal. The bathroom needs some regular TLC, it was a hot mess. read more

The tacos were excellent. We split a fried avo and a fried chicken. BUT to wait 45 mins for 2 tacos is insanity. They said it was due to catering coming out of the kitchen, but I believe that the in house customers should come before catering. I think they kinda got away with the long wait for customers who ordered queso, because that came right out and the long (LONG) wait wasn't quite as obvious...Maybe they should have comped queso for the rest of us??? read more

Restaurant: worn out and in need of a cleaning facelift. Inside and Outside in poor condition. Comfort: hard wooden benches and chairs- maintenance needed. Food: Two bean and cheese Tacos were cold and disproportionate one skimpy and one normal. Ranch hand and Migas tasted great but again small in quantity of ingredients. Compared to Fort Worth and Katy. Salsa : was lucky to get a teaspoon in a plastic cup. Service: pleasant - staff did stand around behind bar eating to hand to mouth and not washing hands and constantly lowering mask. No plans to return as this location is in dire need of attention. read more

Updating my review because Torchy's customer service really knows how to reach out to customers and turn a bad experience around!

Torchy's Tacos - Trailer Park Trashy Taco - Tex-Mex Near Me - Waco, Texas

It's ok but food is expensive for sizes. I visit there for change in taste and my family members like to eat there.

We were driving through Waco and decided to stop for lunch and to tour the Magnolia Silos. It was crowded and there was construction everywhere and since we were hauling a trailer it was hard to get around the narrow streets. We spotted Torchy's and since the parking lot was large, we decided to stop there. I'm so glad we did! They have some unique specialty tacos and they are DELICIOUS! I had the green chili pork and the barbacoa. My daughter had the street corn and the mexican rice as sides. The chips and queso was very good. I had a delicious margarita to wash it down...lol. We sat outside on their picnic tables. I love the vibe of their outdoor eating area. Although it was crowded, service was quick and the food came out hot. I will stop by again next time I pass through Waco. There are so many unique tacos to choose from and I'd like to try a few more. read more

We go to Torchy's everytime we're in Austin and saw one and stopped. This is by far the worst tasting food. My burrito tastes like a dirty dish rag. read more

I was so excited to love Torchy's but came away with such a mixed experience! Pros 1. The Mr. Orange taco had delicious salmon that was cooked perfectly and the filet was surprisingly large for the price and perfectly moist. 2. The Chipotle sauce, cilantro ranch, and salsas were delicious and a great addition to the tacos. Cons 1. There was a horrible smell as you walk into the restaurant coming from the trash area that almost made me turn around. 2. There was no one helping to enforce social distancing for the order line and it was in a crowded and confined space. 3. The table we chose was marked that it had been cleaned and was ready to be seated but there were food remains and liquid on it and the employee who was standing by the cleaning supplies was talking on her phone and didn't seem to care that I was trying to clean the table before sitting down and made no effort to help. All in all a pretty mixed experience, I'm not in a rush to go back any time soon! read more

They say torchy's tacos is great place for tacos and they are not wrong! The tacos are a good size and the flavors and spices are on point. Their green Chile queso packs the right amount of heat! We indulged ourselves in the Baja shrimp tacos, green Chile pork, trailer park, and fajita chicken and steak. I was a bit disappointed in the steak fajita taco, I thought the steak was a bit over cooked and dry but the flavors from the rest of the taco were great. While at the bar I also had the Sucker Punch cocktail. If you like a sweeter cocktail this would be perfect for you. Overall excellent visit! Next time we will have to order from the counter so we can scan our rewards app. We weren't able to do that from the bar. I can't wait to return! read more

Torchy's has become one of my go-to lunch spots in Waco. It's super efficient, super clean, and of course the food is damn good! There's a pretty good size menu of tacos to select from, from veggie to meat lovers and all ranges of spice level. They've got a monthly rotation of specials, too. I didn't get a chance to try the spicy August menu, but looking forward to see what September has in store! Don't miss the queso when you go!! Their. Queso. Is. So. Amazing. And you get a scoop of guac thrown on top for an added bonus. PLUS a solid margarita list if you're feeling it. Love Torchy's so much, can't wait to go back. read more

Almost like a fast food setup but with a bar. Walk in, order at the counter and take a number so they can bring the food out to you. Have to say it seems lime a very efficient setup. I know this is a growing trend in some restaurants now when you order and pay at the counter as they have you sign the check it also has a line for a tip. I added a tip of 20%, but felt later that I should put zero until the server earns the tip. These are the four tacos we ordered and how we liked them in order: 1 Green Chili 2 Democrat barbacoa meat 3 Baja Shrimp 4 Trailer Park battered chicken Also ordered the guacamole and chips, not sure how freshly made the guacamole is, but it is not old. The chips are super salty. Was expecting a little more authentic taco restaurant, not a glorified Taco Bell. read more

The staff was friendly and our food came out pretty fast. However, my friend was missing 2 tacos and those took awhile to come out. We also had a bigger group that split two tables and they got tangled in our orders but did eventually get it figured out. Small building for a lunch rush, but would come back again. read more

Great Atmosphere with even better food, the barbacoa tasted authentic on a fresh corn tortilla and the unlimited chips and queso were to die for! Customer service was awfully near perfect which is hard to find in a little college restaurant hotspot. Only critique I had was the breading on the shrimp was way too much compared to the tiny shrimps being used. Will definitely be coming back and excited to try everything else. read more

I'm a longtime fan of Torchy's and I'm glad that the outlet here in Waco is on par with the ones in Austin. Stopped in today on the way to the Dr Pepper museum and was glad I did. Service was fast and friendly, and the only flaw was that one of the tacos (which tasted roughly the same as in Austin) was too watery. Well, I guess that would be egg-y. Some people like the eggs in their tacos runny. I'm OK with that but it can't be so gosh-darned close to raw that I feel like I'm dicing with the salmonella gods! Definitely worth a visit if you're passing through. This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either. read more

Torchy's Tacos - On the right, the 'Tipsy Chick'. On the left, the Jack of Clubs - though this one had a VERY runny egg inside! - Tex-Mex Near Me - Waco, Texas

We dropped by this Torchy Tacos location after a visit at Magnolia Market. It was a walking distance from Magnolia Market. We made a beeline to the counter as soon as we walked I to the restaurant. Here is what I ordered -- brushfire which was a jerk chicken taco and a pork taco. The two tacos costed about $10. They tasted ok when I added additional orange sauce. That kicked the spice level up a bit. I'd still say they still needed more flavor. Plus, they were too small. Final verdict is a 3-star rating. I wish their tacos are a little bigger with a bit more seasoning. If I were hungry and happen to be close to a Torchy Tacos location, I would consider Torchy Tacos a dining optiion. It was definitely just 'A-OK.' read more

I used to work at this location & you can tell it's gone more downhill than when I worked there. First time coming for food since I quit & we received not only our queso & chips that were stale & didn't taste like what it used to, but a dead fly in our Togo bag. I worked expo by myself & never had any dead bugs in my orders. They weren't busy at all either, I'd be more understanding with mistakes under pressure being in that position, but this was sloppy. It's not hard to see a dead fly in your bag before serving it to customers. read more

This place came highly recommended by fellow Baylor parents, so I decided to try it. Coming from CA we have some seriously great mexican food and taquerias, so I was a bit skeptical. I ordered the green chili pork taco. It came with a generous amount of shredded pork(not the crispy, fried carnitas style pork I'm used to) on two corn tortillas, with green chilis, onion and a tiny bit of cheese. The pork was flavorful, but a bit salty. The green salsa that came with it was great. I did see many people enjoying the queso, which looked really good. I would say this place is "college good". Large portions for a reasonable price and decent tasting food. I could see my college son enjoying this place this fall when he is living here, but I doubt I would come back. read more
