I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with no tomato or cheese. Got a 6" or do sandwich with a few scraps of chicken, a paper-thin slice of bacon and a small piece of lettuce. The filling did not even cover the bread as I had to lift the top bread to see any of the filling. I asked for more lettuce and got two more pieces that were also paper-thin and so flat, we joked that they had been ironed. Others in my group got the Cajun poboy and the Mac and cheese, both were declared mediocre. The bags of chips are the thin Lays potato chips and the flavored varieties that other sandwich shops sell. Recently went gluten free and this was the first cauliflower crust I have tried. After reading another review that said this was the best they ever had, I'm afraid I will be disappointed everywhere else. It was fantastic!! And the bbq chicken toppings were excellent. For a deli kind of place, I always enjoy the staff's courtesy. I tend to forget to mention I like my salads dry (no dressing) and they never throw a fuss nor their expressions change. Very professional and welcoming. (: VEGETERIAN CLUB - Flame-grilled portabella mushroom steaks, red and yellow bell peppers, creamy goat cheese with basil and garlic pesto sauce. Omg. Tuna salad great. Clean, busy, friendly staff, great selections for a great price. They do sell beer, so after a long travel day for work this spot is perfect for a great, cheap bite in a quiet place. They also have a raspberry unsweet tea that I will recommend. We tried this place for the first time today. The staff was friendly and the food was good. However, this restaurant is filthy dirty. The restaurant has about 20 tables and booths. With about only three tables in use we could not find any table that was clean. We had to wipe down the crumbs off the table and seat just to sit down. The restrooms weren't any cleaner. Toilet paper all over and hand sink dirty. The price is reasonable, a sandwich with side about 7-10 bucks and a salad $7-12. I was not expecting this kind of experience. read more

Newk's is a nice soup and sandwich spot, but food can be hit or miss! Yesterday, I went there to burn some time because of the heavy traffic on I-10! I ordered the Grill chicken sandwich with fruit, and a side order of lobster bisque with half bread! I was initially disappointed, because when you think grill chicken, you think either whole or sliced. It was deli sliced grill chicken, it was cool, but missing that juicy bite regular slice grill chicken gives. Nevertheless, the sandwich was actually pretty good!(3.5/5) It came with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard! I wanted tomato basil soup with the sandwich but they actually rotate different soups from day to day, so tomato basil wasn't on the menu. Instead, I went with the lobster bisque(first time trying it) and it was actually pretty good as well! I think I would have to try lobster bisque from a few different places to gauge how good Newk's version is, but I was satisfied with it! Today, with all this rain, I was in the mood for soup and a sandwich again! Found out that Newk's offer online ordering, commence to ordering something before I went on lunch break. I went with the steak sandwich and tomato basil soup! Now the online system told me my order would be ready at 1:30pm, I got there at 1:35pm my order wasn't ready. Some people throw fits about that but I was like cool, whatever I'll wait.(received order at 1:43pm) Got back to work, and pulled my sandwich out, I was immediately disappointed! The steak looked dry as f**k! Again, it was deli sliced type but seem like it was semi-cooked. The sides and ends where dry looking and the supposedly grilled onions that come on there was cooked a few weeks ago, weeks ago! Lol I ate as much as I could, but that sandwich was easily 1/5 stars. This is a great addition to the neighborhood. It's healthy food in good portions, sold at very reasonable prices in a bright, friendly environment. It will be a good lunch place and casual dinner place to keep in the rotation. It's clear that they are taking aim at cafe express market share. The set-up is pretty similar and shares the same little breadstick and pickle station. Newks menu is salad, soups, pizza and something else that escapes me at the moment (update: it's sandwiches). I'm looking at the container which is the same circumference of a 8oz only twice as tall and I'm like this is literally the same amount of soup I get when I buy an 8oz. I had a really bad experience at this location, food and service was not the best. At the counter the boy who took the order did not even tell us about the limited time sandwiches, when I asked about the steak sandwich he answered down to the right in the menu. Did not even want to explain what it consisted of and the sandwich was not where he said on the menu. I felt I had to order in a hurry even thought restaurant was empty and had no one behind us. If I had taken a better look I would have ordered the tuna limited time sandwich but did not know about or was told there were new items in the menu. My husband got a steak and chimichurri sandwich, he asked to add lettuce and onions and neither of them were added but we realized this when we were home. The meat had too much sauce, which made it to over seasoned. I got a mediterranean sandwich, had no gouda cheese in it and barely had any spinach. Again couldn't complain there since realized this when was out of there. The soda fountain machine was watery, and all the bottles of cholula were finished when we asked if they had any more they brought it, but did not even open it gave it to us sealed. I've been wanting to try this place so since it's my birthday month I received a coupon for a free meal with a drink. I ordered the deluxe pizza and I really enjoyed it. The restaurant setup reminds me of Cafe Express. The staff was kind and gave suggestions on food. I was eyeing the rice krispy treats and the cashier said that if I checked in on Facebook that I would get it free then she said you know what it's your birthday you can have it. What upsets me the most - THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME I HAVE BEEN SERVED COLD SOUP AT THIS LOCATION. The sandwich is dry and not that special. The ambiance is not pristine for just opening 15 mins ago. But I'm so disappointed in the meal... Nothing seems to matter. My soup was returned HOT. No manager came around to check on it. When I approached (which I was hesitant - the person in charge of the kitchen (?) basically QUESTIONED my interpretation of the temp. She actually wanted to take the temp. LADY - some parts are chilly albeit frozen - while others are warm-ish. I see the smoke, but trust me. ITS NOT HOT. I usually think of this place after SoulCycle. Whenever we got there, the first thing you see to your left is the menu in big bright colors and the font is huge so if you're as blind as me you will have no problem reading it. The concept originated from McCalisters Deli, because the founder of Newk's is also an original founder of McCalisters. While the concept is relatively the same, Newk's throws in bolder, more appealing options and really caters to the "on-the-go" crowd. I love their app: place your order on line, run in, pick up your order, out -- 5 minutes! The variety is wonderful, too. They have soups, many different types of salads, sandwiches. They, also, serve beer and wine. You order at the counter, take your number, and they table serve you. The acoustics are pretty good, so even with a lunch crowd, it was easy to hear your companions talk, notwithstanding the background music. I had a Cobb salad, and honestly, it was a two-person salad. My companion had Southern salad, which was also very good. There is the beverage bar with plenty of lemon slices, water, drink containers, straws, lids, all well-stocked so you can grab and go. I was really disappointed in Newk's. I was hoping for a little more. My first disappointment came when we had a hard time finding a booth to sit in. There were very few customers yet so many of the tables were dirty. Next, it was apparent that the staff was ready to go home. It was 8:15 and 45 minutes before closing but the employees were all talking about "getting out" of there, and they were packing up their food. Third, it would be nice if they had an employee visit customers asking how their meal was and if they needed anything. Perhaps, they could even refill glasses because the drink station isn't very close to the main seating area. I know that some Luby's, Chickfila and Boston Markets provides this type of service. I also wish they offered entrees such as a chicken breast or tuna. Salads, pizzas and sandwiches are great, but sometimes we want a real "entree" for dinner. I will probably return once more to give them another chance, and I do like their grab and go selections. read more

Love this restaurant and this particular location. It is clean and the staff is very friendly and efficient. I love there salads which are fresh and ginormous in size. The condiment bar is pretty awesome too with breadsticks, extra parmesan, olives, croutons, etc. I had the Italian sandwich $7.89 with a side of fresh fruit and the bread was very good. With exception to the steak sandwich, which was dry and overcooked, everything else has been fresh and tasty. The lobster & crab bisque and the baked potato soup are great! They also have a quick grab-n-go cooler that is really convenient when you're in a hurry.
