Wow! I went to Nerone on our first night of Rome, and we do not regret it whatsoever! We walk in, and the service is phenomenal. They also had two restaurant cats, named Guillermo and Luisa! Our appetizer was extremely delicious. I ordered the carbonara, which was really good. Our dessert was also incredible. The place is also really nice with a cool fountain. I did not realize this was listed as a pizza restaurant. Our meal was fantastic!!! This is definitely the best and most amazing place to eat in Rome. OMG, everything was great. The freshness and purity taste were unmatched. One person in our party ordered 2 meals. This is how great it was. Unfortunately, we found this place the very last day of the trip. Glad we did! The atmosphere was great. The waiter was comical, friendly and help with suggesting wines, food menu item and other. We even struck up a conversation with the table next to us. They were from the states as well. Fortunately for them, they had discovered this place days prior and it was their 3rd time dining. If I could give it 10 stars, I would. Total tourist trap. If you're looking for authentic Italian cuisine, this isn't it. The food tasted like something you'd find at an Olive Garden in the U.S.--definitely not the Italian experience we were hoping for. To their credit, the staff was friendly and tried hard to make up for it. They even brought us complimentary drinks and desserts, which was a nice gesture. What really threw us off, though, was being asked for a tip. It's not a common practice in this country, and it felt out of place--especially after a lackluster dining experience. The ambiance didn't help either; it felt like they were trying too hard to look "Italian," but it all came off as staged and uninspired. At the end of the day, effort only goes so far if the food doesn't deliver. If you're after a real taste of Italy, you might want to skip this one. read more

I heard about this restaurant from a blog and put it on my itinerary since it was 6 min walk from the hotel. The first night we didn't get in because it was fully booked. I've tried to call few times to make reservations, but didn't get through. On our last night in Rome, we thought we would try one more time and we got a table! It was meant to be! Food was excellent! The antipasto (appetizer) was a perfect mix of cheese and cured meat. It was so fresh and tasty. The main course did not disappoint either. I had the chicken escalope and the creamy sauce was so flavorful. The grilled vegetables balanced the dish well. We even finished the whole bottle of wine! We walked over from our hotel last night and enjoyed our meal. The service was phenomenal and everyone was incredibly friendly. We enjoyed a limencello spritz with dinner and our waiter even brought us limencello and pistachio creame drinks. Our first meal in Rome at Nerone was so memorable that every meal afterwards was a comparison to the delicious feast we had at Nerone. Nothing we tried beat the service and taste so our family had to come back to Nerone as our last meal in Rome. My family and I each had a dish that was recommended by our server, Kim. We were not disappointed! Their truffle cream sauce is to die for and it's been on my mind constantly since returning home. Kim and all the staff were so welcoming, attentive, and delightful. The food is probably great for most tourists, but I'm picky- the red sauce tastes like Chef Boyardee and I'm not mad! - and the cacio e pepe was good although not my favorite in Rome. Our server Kim (male) ended up being multitalented as he later pulled out a guitar and they all sang happy birthday to another patron. We started with a cheese appetizer plate, which was delicious. We followed that with a lobster/seafood ravioli, which we had plated for two. (Delicious). Next was a garlic spaghetti dish and a homemade sausage linguine cream sauce. These were outstanding, both. We had a nice bottle of their montepulciano wine, followed by dessert which kept showing up - complete with three after dinner drinks; a pistachio drink, a lemoncello type drink, and a meloni type drink, which were all superb. not a single thing to distract from an outstanding experience. I had their highly rated carbonara, which I thought was o-kay -- I enjoyed the one at Roscioli much more. The fettuccini with porcini mushroom also tasted a bit strange, and the bread was hard and stale. Decided to get dessert since so many people raved about those, and we went with the mixed pistachio and classic tiramisu, and the panna cotta in three flavors (caramel, chocolate, and cherry).
