We had Straccetti alla Roma (strips of beef with arugula, Parmesan, and cherry tomatoes--this was on the specials/alternative menu), Tonnarelli Amatriciana (my absolute favorite of the four Roman pasta sauces), Caprese salad, grilled vegetables, and a calzone with mozzarella, mushrooms, and sausage. Service was great, the ambiance was cozy and warm. Although it was steps away from very busy and touristy areas, I really felt this was not a tourist trap by any means. Classic outdoor café setup with plenty of seating and that perfect Rome street vibe. Prices were super reasonable, the Aperol Spritz was fantastic, and the meat, cheese, and bread board hit the spot. Love this place. Ate here two years ago it was great and still is. We had the Eggplant parmigiana and the tonnarello Cacio Pepe. Complimentary melon chello. 50 Eurs including drinks and tip. The place was pretty crowded for the early hour we ate here. But it got packed by the time we left. Staff are all great and help each other to keep things moving. We deliberately went to find and eat at this place since a friend had highly recommended it. Out of all the meals, this place was one of the most memorable pasta of the trip. Carbonara- 5/5 stars. Had a great meal here at Mastrociccia. We were originally going to some pinsa place, but there was an hour and a half wait. I'm so glad I found this place, albeit it was a little difficult for the taxi to get to since it's a little walk. I think this place normally has long waits, but thankfully my friends and I stopped by on Friday mid-afternoon. We could have walked here, but for some reason my GPS was doing some wonky stuff so I just let the taxi take us. Anyhow, it was definitely a feast that me and my two friends enjoyed. The ravioli is probably the only item I'd say is not on my radar. Everything else you should definitely give it a try! Personally, I liked the gnocchi and the focaccia. The carbonara was a little on the salty side, but I think that's how they are in Italy surprisingly (confirming this as another restaurant nearby who was known for this also was just as salty). My guess is all the cheese that they use. Of course, it was still delicious, and I'm glad I got to try the traditional carbonara. The owner was also very kind. He brought us some limoncello at the end, too on the house knowing we were going out later that evening. THAT WAS STRONG! lol... Mastro was everything I expected. Although this is a touristy spot the food was very good. All of the wait staff were very pleasant and accommodating. One of the waitresses didn't speak English, but we managed through pointing and vague signing. We got mozzarella balls (meh okay), tuna salad (meh okay), spicy salami pizza (amazing!). What a gem! I found this place through recommendations on the web, and it did not disappoint. It was a short walk away from our Airbnb near Piazza Navona. We came back multiple times. The staff was pleasant and they remembered us; it was like visiting family. The prices were decent. The portions are large and shareable. Our favorite dish was the pork shank. We had plans to go to Cantina e Cucina which is across Mastro Ciccia. There was a line to check-in. I consulted Mastro Ciccia's rating here on Yelp and took a risk on a 4 start (instead of 4.5 or 5). Our family is so grateful that we did not wait for that line across the street. We had the BEST meal we've had so far here in Roma. We ordered zucchini flowers for appetizers, two types of pizzas, Carbonara and 4 cheese gnocchi. The pizza was super thin and crispy. Flavor of all the dishes were on point! See pictures attached. After reading a Yelp review I'm so glad we got out of standing in line across the street and gave this place a try. The service was top notch, so attentive with great recommendations. We opted for the Pasta special which included bread, bruschetta, and a pasta dish. We let your waiter choose our dishes. For me it was Fettuccine with mushrooms and my wife had Pasta with salmon. This is a great place for breakfast with the largest coffee menu I have ever seen. Food menu includes sandwiches, eggs with veggies or meats, assorted bread or a full English breakfast. Everyone was pleased with their dishes. I had fried eggs with bacon which came with a side green salad and tomatoes. Fresh and excellent! We shared the mixed bread which was a nice side dish. Prices are reasonable considering the touristy area. Coffee sizes are smaller than in other parts of Europe or US but tasty. Service is good and the ambiance was casual but cool. The food is fine, but it's really not very good. Left being very disappointed. Considering you are in Rome, you can do MUCH better. The Fritto Misto for example, I could not even tell what half of the pieces were underneath the thick fried dough, and the arancini ball included was still frozen on the inside. Didn't expect such kind service and great food. The waiter Andrea and the wine expert Gabriel, both super friendly and warm to us non-Italian speakers. They recommended good wine and a great steak dish. We each had a pasta dish (cacio e pepe & ravioli) to start and shared the tagliatelle steak. Perfectly al dente pasta, lightly seasoned, and nice portions. The homemade tiramisu was the highlight of the night. A definite must! Went here for dinner after searching for the restaurant in a Rome travel book. I believe the name had changed but it didn't matter because we had a fabulous time. We were seated inside since there wasn't space outside and moved to a different table when water was dripping. The restaurant was very accommodating and had no problem with us moving. The host was so gracious and gave us plenty of time to decide what we wanted. We all ordered different things. My friend got the four cheese gnocchi and I the fettuccini bolognese. I also got the caprese salad to try since I wanted something fresh. The past came out first and was delicious!! The fettuccine was perfectly cooked, just a little al dente and the bolognese sauce was super flavorful. I got the chance to try the gnocchi and it was heaven. The sauce was rich and delicious. The gnocchi, some of the best I've had. They forgot about the caprese salad but brought it out after I mentioned it. As an apology, she gifted our table with two rounds of limoncello. The meal was amazing. They do charge for bread if you order it but you most likely won't have room. On our last night in Rome we went back for an earlier dinner and I got the shrimp pasta. It was overly salted for my liking and they brought out bread without asking if we wanted any. I had them take it off since we didn't eat it and the male server we had was not as great as the woman. Overall though, both experiences were fun and it's not far from the Campo de fiori so you can easily walk there after. Definitely recommend going here at least once and trying a few dishes. read more

What a wonderful meal on our first night in Rome. We were scrambling to find a place for dinner that could accommodate our group. Not only were they accommodating, the service was wonderful. We had a couple of tired kids from a day of travel and Andrea, our server cheered them up and entertained them all night. Pizza salami picante with a perfect amount of a kick, the dough was amazing quality- thin and crispy, never soggy. Great house white wine, eggplant caprese good but I had a better mozzarella. This was my first trip to Rome, and after a long day of being on a tour my uncle and I decided to wonder around town and eat somewhere that didn't feel too touristy. We found this quaint little restaurant Ciccia Bomba down a narrow road. It had outside seating and was across from another nice little spot. The outside tables are right on the road so as cars and vespas pass they almost literally knock your glass of wine off your table. Don't take that as a negative - it was pretty awesome and really gave this place an amazing atmosphere. The owner came out and recommended a nice bottle of wine to us. I wish I remembered what it was because it was fantastic, and local. Between my broken Italian and his broken English we communicated enough to get some good suggestions for dinner. He told us that in Italy sauce is used sparingly on pasta and it's the noodles that are supposed to be the hero of the dish. Not the over sauced stuff we get here in America. I don't remember what they called the appetizer, but it was homemade bread toasted with mozzarella and prosciutto. The dish was huge and incredibly delicious. For dinner we ordered pasta (again, sorry I don't remember the name of the dish) that was very simple. Olive oil, pancetta, Parmesan, and black pepper. It was a simple dish, but was possibly the best dish I have ever eaten. The pasta was fresh and perfectly Al dente. It was so tasty, and so simple. We enjoined our meal and watched the locals talk down the street. It was exactly how I pictured it to be if I lived there. If you're in Roma - this is somewhere you must go. I've been severely disappointed by Italy in terms of food. Here's the latest disappointment: Mastro Ciccia sat about 5 steps away from my AirBnb. First morning in Rome, I decided to grab breakfast here. 8 euros for an eggs Benedict. It came on thin slices of burnt toast instead of an English muffin. The eggs had a bad texture, as if they weren't poached well. Importantly (and worst of all) it came WITHOUT HOLLANDAISE SAUCE. What is this!? So bad that I decided to head straight to the supermarket 10 steps from my house and prepare my own breakfast the rest of the trip. read more
