I don't get it... what's the draw? Really? The parking lot is eh- but whatever... ambiance is lively but chaotic. To all Nellie Newbies: There are two entrances! If you're not a regular- townie, the initiation haze is to go to the front door and then stand around and be ignored while waiting for 10 mins to learn you need to go to the hostess that is located in the back. During that 10 mins at least 5 servers looked me right in the eye, smiled and didn't mention a word about going to the back. I walked to the back.... And walked right out the door. Updated review: I went back and I tried the thin crusted pizza, and as I was told it was delicious! I would definitely give it a 5 star thin crusted pizza rating. The rest of the food was alright. I got the Chicken Milanese special, but asked for it over penne pasta instead because I figured I'd just enjoy the salad bar. It came out on a plate by itself with pasta in a side bowl and it wasn't penne it was linguine. Also, we ordered 3 bowls of pasta fagioli and 2 of them had like 2-3 pieces of pasta while one was loaded with it. Overall, great pizza but average everywhere else. read more

This place is extremely overrated. The food is well below average and the prices are high for such poor quality food. The bar pies were slightly better than a frozen pizza. The restaurant itself is dated ugly and needs a makeover. I had the very very over seasoned wings and I wasn't impressed at all. I decided to give Nellies another try after getting food poisoning there a few years ago. The food wasn't good but at least I didn't have to go to the ER after eating there this time. A bit disappointed in the food, and very slow service. I'd heard the pizza was comparable to Kinchley's - but it wasn't even close. Decent, but no crisp and tasted like a frozen pizza. The app sampler was on the same level. Mediocre fried food, but the buffalo sauce that came on the side with the chicken had a watery consistency and was underwhelming. Neighborhood gem! Heard a lot about Nellies and Kinchleys.. we had to see what it's all about.. Thin crust pizza packed with flavor. Crispy crust and mozzarella that you can taste! Delicious! Wings were also recommended.. crispy fried wings in a unique dry rub you have never had but will leave you wanting more.. didn't need any ranch or blue cheese.. was recommended to have a squeeze of lemon (random but was amazing) Definitely better seating then Kinchleys. The place to be after a game or really any event. A true "family friendly" restaurant that has too many selections to even begin to list. Great pizza and entrees. My family has been going here for years and for some reason I've never reviewed it. Nellie's has the best thin crust you're gonna find around here. Kinchley's tavern is very similar but I think Nellie's is a bit better. Crispy crust, gooey cheese, and delicious sauce. I can devour at least one large pie by myself no problem. Also, GET THE ELKIN WINGS. You won't regret it, they have the best seasoning ever and I don't usually like wings. These are the only ones I'll eat. They also remodeled the inside semi-recently and it's a great space to go enjoy a meal with friends/watch sports/celebrate. I especially like sitting in the back outside during the summer. read more

Normally, I like Nellies. Their thin crust bar pies are very good, portion sizes are generous (I usually get appetizers), and the Elkin Wings are unique and flavorful. But the other night, around 12:30am, my friends and I were hungry, so we used Yelp to see what was still open. Yelp said Nellie's was open until 2am, so we called to make sure. A woman answered answered the phone and told us that the kitchen closes at 1:00am. I asked if we would still be served as long as we ordered before 1:00am and she said yes. We made the 5 minute drive and got to Nellie's about a quarter to 1:00am. The woman on the phone was at the bar when I walked in and told me that the kitchen was closed. I look at my cellphone, confirm that it's 12:46am, and I say "I just called and asked if the kitchen was closed, and you said 1:00am" Her response? She points at the clock above the bar and says "The kitchen closes 1:00am by our clock, and it's 1:05am." Surely, she must have changed that clock above the bar as I was driving in. And even if she didn't, she could have told me the kitchen was closed when I called if she had no intentions of serving us. read more

Second time here. Popular place. Both times we had to wait for a table and both times the food took a reeeeaaallly long time to come out. Pizza. Really long. The Elkin wings are good, a little salty. The pizza is good, inexpensive, very thin crust . But 45 minutes? Come on, this place has been here for a long time, get yourself together. Thin crust pie in a thick crust world. This place has many things going for it. Great pizza, I am a traditionalist and also go for the meatball, awesome wings, go for the elkin and a liquor license, which is great in NJ. Other nice features include a killer french onion soup, a traditional salad bar, and attentive servers. The only thing that does not get it the perfect 5 star review? We ordered 2 pies and the elkin wings, and I honestly don't know what the hype is about... The regular pepperoni pie was great, but the fra Diablo and pepperoni pie was super salty, and the Elkin wings tasted like they marinated it in soy sauce for a month before cooking. Nellies has good thin crust pizza and very tasty wings ( Elkin style and buffalo). I think for the size of the thin crust pizza, Nellies overcharges. They charge quite a bit for toppings on pizza also and if you split a pie between two people it probably won't fill you up. I picked up from here last week and I was actually quite disappointed. They told me to come in 15-20 minutes which I did and they still made me wait 15 minutes while I was there. I thought to myself the food must be very fresh and the pizza is going to be nice and hot but boy was I wrong. The pizza was warm at best and the Cajun waffle fries came out pretty terribly because the Cajun seasoning was overwhelming and way too much and it was almost uneatable. I would recommend dining in and not taking out. Responding back to owners response: "unfortunate you felt, we missed the mark" I mean wouldn't you think after waiting 15 extra minutes for your pizza to come out, it be fresh and hot but it came out warm out at best is missing the mark? I also live legit a 2 minute drive away from nellies so it definitely didn't get cool on the drive home. read more

Our recent visits at Nellies have been less than stellar. The pizzas have always been the best but lately they have been off (a bit doughy with a different flavor sauce). The service has always been hit or miss, but again, lately it has been poor with more miss than hit. I came here over the summer with two of my guy friends for what I was told was going to be the best pizza I ever had. It was good, but not the best pizza I ever had. Apparently they are known for their thin crust pizza and ill say it was very good but everything else was sub-par. We got the muscles with red sauce (nothing special). The staff was very nice and attentive, i always had a full glass of water and soda. The pizza i chose was a bacon pizza and there was bacon all over it which I was pleased to see. Went here Friday night with some friends for drinks & food. We arrived before the bar crowd started to come in so we were able to get a high rise table near the bar. The bar itself is large & there are plenty of high rise tables surrounding it to go along with the ample amounts of bar seats as well. Above the bar are 4 televisions that have different sporting events on them (on this particular night the Mets game & college football. The entire bar area is also very well lit. When my friends & I were seated we were greeted right away by our waiter. The staff on hand that night was very friendly & they checked in sporadically throughout the night to check to see how our food was or if we needed any drinks. For food, I ordered the French onion soup for an appetizer & an order of wings, Elkin style, for the main course. The French onion was perfectly done as it had both plenty of onions within the soup & a ton of melted cheese on top. Once the wings came out, I was blown away by the flavor that was Elkin style. I had never had them before, but the wings itself were very crispy & they had a great tangy spice to it. These wings may be the best non-hot red sauce wings that I have ever had (and I eat a lot of chicken wings!). I put down a dozen of them in a blink of an eye. Overall, my friends & I had a great experience at this bar/restaurant. Whenever I am in the area I'll be sure to make a stop there for some Elkin Style wings! read more
