I have been coming here for 25 years. People come for the pizza which is delicious. I recommend the bacon pizza but you really can't go wrong. Everything on the menu I have had is consistently good. I just found out about the Elkin wings a few years ago and have been ordering them ever since. Its a great place to take the kids or go to after a ball game. We were in the area and in need of a place for takeout so we popped over to Nellie's. The menu they had for takeout was a lot bigger than many of the other takeout options in the area. This is my favorite restaurant to go to. I highly recommend their pizza, wings, and potato skins. I visited this restaurant yesterday at around 4pm. When we entered there were about three tables of costumers so not busy at all and we saw a few workers just walking around and talking to each other. I have never been to this restaurant and wanted to give it a try. We sat down for about 10 minutes and workers just didn't even acknowledge us. Didn't even say sorry we will be with you shortly or even say hello, didn't even take a drink order. After 10 minutes passed we just got up to left. The employees who were just talking to each other just watched us leave and didn't even say anything. Such a strange experience, it wasn't even busy so you can't even blame that. Just extremely poor costumer service. It's almost like they wanted us to leave so they didn't have to work or serve us. Not really sure what kind of business idea that is. This was a special occasion. We were hungry. Everybody ordered pizza except me. Never tried the liver and onions. Mom used to make it for us regularly and we loved it. Stick to the pizza, which is great. I stopped for dinner with my grandchildren. I got a burger, which was raw, flipped over for a second and then served. Ok, I didn't like to complain. The kids got max and cheese, and spaghetti with meatballs, both very good. I took them to the bathroom and when we came back the food had been cleared and thrown away! In 5 minutes! Everyone leaves with their leftovers but this kid just threw it all out. Our server apologized but really they should have comped the whole meal or replaced the thrown out food. I couldn't believe it. Guard your food, friends! If the food was bad I wouldn't be so mad but there was 90% of the kid's dinners to take home for the next day. LOVE Nellies! I have been coming here for years having grown up in Waldwick. They've recently redone their place and its a lot more open in the back room compared to what it used to be, and now there's a salad bar and outdoor seating in the back. Their pizza is thin crust and so delicious. I've had their Chicken Panani sandwich, burgers, most their apps and yet still the best thing to me is their signature Elkin Wings. I'd recommend this to anyone if they like a nice spiced herb rub. They usually provide you with a lemon to squeeze over it and if they don't I highly suggest it. Price is fair. Backroom is all dining, front is more of the Bar/High-top dining. Loud on football Sunday's but fun if you're into it. read more

I've lived in the area for virtually all my life, and as far back as I can remember, Nellie's has always had the best pizza around bar none. It's good to see that nothing has changed. This place can be a little crowded on a busy weekend night, and they dont deliver their world class pizza, but that's the only negatives I can say about the place. Stopped by today to watch the Europa league final with my fiancée and his colleague. The space itself is great and the Elkin wings are absolutely the best I've ever had. I ordered the Shepherds Pie which is huge, filling and OK, as a good British man my fiancée ordered the Fish and Chips, which came in a big portion but he was disappointed the chips were not your traditional chips (fries) but more like crisps. Lastly, our friend ordered a grilled cheese which looked good as well. Overall I would give the food 4 stars because the wings were THAT good! What really let me down was the service and overall poor and unfriendly manners of the staff. It seems like only known costumers get friendly treatment here. We asked to move to the bar ( to watch the game) and the very dull bartender insinuated we were trying to move without closing the tab? Ummm by moving across from a table to the bar? It made me uncomfortable, we were asked to close our $70 tab and ordered a coffee and dessert at the bar, when the $10 bill was brought to us, we were told it was $15 minimum... so we HAD to order bottled water to fulfill the minimum after already spending $70. The restaurant was virtually empty! And it took about 20 mins until our order was taken. Staff was really awkward to be honest, nobody seemed very interested. Advice to management: Please train your staff adequately in regards to costumer service. I will give it another try but if the service doesn't improve i might just have to miss on the best wings forever. read more

I've been to Nellie's at least 30 times. The pizza has always been consistently great. Love the atmosphere. We always stick the basics: Bar pie and fried raviolis. But, the past two times the pizza is different, not nearly as good. We mentioned it the same waitress that has served us well so many times. She said the cheese is different, due to supply issues? I like this place a lot. It's a nice cozy bar. Never trouble. People bring kids. Family kid friendly. Can sit out side when it warms up. Food is fun and awesome and hot. Nellies is a great spot to come grab a meal with your family/friends, or even just to sit at the bar and have a drink. On nice days, I love sitting outside on their patio for a meal. As many other people have mentioned, you've got to try their Elkin wings. They are absolutely delicious. I'm not usually much of a wing eater, but I could eat an entire plate of Elkin wings by myself if they were put in front of me. Their thin crust pizzas are always a huge hit, too. This place seriously needs to retrain their staff or hire new people. Service is atrocious. Always rude. Things are tough during the pandemic so you have to take this into consideration, but while other restaurants are going out of their way to keep or gain your business, this one is set on keeping you away. Went to lunch this past weekend, it took over 20 minutes for someone to approach us, she wasn't even our waitress so she rushed us through it. Clearly not interested in writing it down, and walked away before we ended. The waitress finally came to bring out our drinks and rolled her eyes when we told her we were not given an opportunity to give our full order. She then takes the menu and walks away, we had to stop her since she didn't bother to ask us what we wanted to eat. We clearly explained that we were ordering appetizers and would be ordering more, and again she took the menus. She came back and dumped our food in the middle, not bothering to give the right plate to the right person. Never bothered to give us napkins or silverware but oddly enough a big stack of plates. We had to get things ourselves, after eyeing their service cart and catch them refilling. On 2 occasions the waitress went to take a smoke break immediately after we asked for something. We could even smell the smoke from the cigarettes. Its well know this place is not great for its service, and it even worse among the older employees. Very good thin crust pizza. Personal favorites include the Hawaiian, meat lovers, and meatball/bacon. Also have a good drinks and beer selection. Fat Tire on tap which is always a plus. Wow. Just drove to nellies and waited in line for 40 minutes to pick up a pizza -- only to be told by the lady ringing me up that there is a 20% tip automatically included in the charge. She said i could change it...if I'd like. I feel like this is so shady!! I'm sorry, you guys are not hurting for business or doing anything extra during Covid that warrants this type of additional charge. We are longtime customers but will be taking our business to Sicilian sun from now on until this practice is discontinued. I visited this venue in 2010. I posted a picture of me and a California and traditional pie. The size of the pie at the time was absolutely enormous. Probably one of the best pies I've ever had. I never wrote a review at that time but I'm writing one now because I came back today for the first time in 8 years. I was visiting a friend that I hadn't seen in almost 40 years so we had a lot to catch up on. The first waitress came to us immediately and took our drink orders. It took about 20 minutes to get a beer and a glass of wine. Then after we got her drinks and took her another 15 minutes to realize that we never got menus but because we were so caught up in talking we really didn't care and Let It Go. When we finally ordered the pizza came very quickly but I was kind of disappointed in the size of the pie because the last time I had been there in 2010 the thing was gargantuan. I asked her if this was the biggest pie she had and she said yes that maybe they had changed their size on the menu since the last time I was there. A large pie isn't much bigger than a personalized pie so you end up ordering two. Then this waitress who we didn't see the first 20 minutes of our visit shows up every 30 seconds to make sure everything's okay while you have a full mouth of food. Lol anyway I guess it was her time to leave and the new waitress came in. Enter nurse ratchet. OMG. SO we've been paying customers for now about an hour and nurse ratchet comes up and says are you done? And my friends and I look at each other like why are you asking us this... And we say no we're not my friend still has a half a glass of wine and we're still sitting here enjoying ourselves is that okay? We also then asked if she was expecting a large group and if she needed us to move because she was expecting to put tables together and she said no. Anyway fast-forward 20 minutes later she's still going back and forth between our tables and policing the area as if we're up to no good. We decided to stay and ignore her. So the total bill was $42 for two very small pizzas, one beer on tap, two glasses of Chardonnay, one iced tea and one Arnold Palmer and lots of aggravation from nurse ratchet. I think that's a lot of money for barely any food. Not sure if you are still reading but if you are just make sure that when you go in that you choose the largest table there and sit there as long as you can because it seems to me that they don't bother people that are single and sitting all by themselves and a really big table but they will bother two people in a single table. We blew it off and made fun of it and will probably laugh about it for the next 30 years of our friendship but nonetheless nurse ratchet annoyed the s*** out of me and made a 5-star into a one-star. read more

Uh, No Thanks Food Was Bland Place Is Ratty I had a New York Strip Steak dinner here, that was probably a mistake as the reviews all talk about pizza. The steak was frozen, overcooked, gray in color and unseasoned, the entire plate was a disaster. Not a fan of salad bars and this one is no exception, just kinda gross. I was coerced in to eating here by my wife (former resident of Waldwick) who assured me the menu was on the up & up but the second we walked through the door I felt like the life was sucked out of me, man this place is depressing with its dated dark smelly decor. We sat in the bar / lounge area, the bar stools were occupied by drunk solo locals looking like their dogs just died. -- Northern NJ Pizza Tour: Stop 2 -- Relatively newer, Nellie's Place has only been around since 1989 after taking over what formerly was Stasny's. They too, have a reputation for "bar pies", so we decided to check out their offerings as well. A priori, I would not have expected much difference between their bar pie and those at Kinchley's Tavern just up the road. Comparing plain pizzas, there is seemingly little to vary given that the very thin crusts are mostly taken out of the equation. Nonetheless, Nellie's came up lacking considerably in a head to head comparison. To be fair, we tried both extremes at Nellie's: a plain pie and a humongous pie which included all of their topping ingredients. I found both pies to be disappointing. The very thin crust was not crispy like I was expecting, more chewy really. The sauce was unremarkable in the plain, and almost impossible to detect in the humongous. As such, the plain pizza overall was about as boring as pizzas come. The humongous was considerably more interesting with its rather diverse selection of toppings, but that does not mean that it was good. The weight of the ingredients far outstripped the weight of the crust making for a top-heavy pizza ideal for fork use which is something I do not associate with thin crust pizza. The toppings were mostly uncooked vegetables with a strange inclusion of broccoli. Ugh. The meatball was surprisingly flavorless and an affront to meatballs everywhere, but the black olives were good. In fact, that was the only thing I actually enjoyed. The restaurant had plenty of seating space, and a nice bar. I would be fine with having a drink here, but I would probably pass on the pizza. 2.25 stars read more

I was talked into going to this place for pizza and wings. And it was horrible where the hell do these people get these reviews from? It quite obvious that the reviews come from friends from the establishment We ordered wings and they were freezer burned! The pizza was terrible!!! Tried the nellies special it was mostly broccoli awful awful pizza. The plastic cups they gave us had cracks in it the waitress sat in the corner drinking a corona out of a bottle and kept burping while we were eating!!! My recommendation. Do not go here!!! Nellies. Went in for an early dinner with my son. We always sit at high tops when we dine. We sat at a high top in the bar- which by the way, were all completely empty. I went to up to the bartender who Ignored me until I finally said "excuse me, can I have menus for us to eat". With an attitude he said that I need to go to the entrance around the corner and see a hostess to be seated. Even though we are already there and they are all empty? Yes! He said. As I was about to go do that he then barked at me that we can't sit there because my son isn't big enough. I did a double take and looked confused and he then said "it's an insurance policy". Like I've said I've dined out many times with my son even when he was smaller and have always sat at high tops- if it was too high for him to eat I wouldn't of sat there. In addition I was in the restaurant business for over 20 years and have never heard of such an "insurance policy". I decided to leave, not because of the policy but because of the attitude . It's not the first time I've seen this guy act this way towards guests in that restaurant. I love their pizza, but I'm not going to go there anymore. I go out to eat to enjoy myself, not to walk on egg shells because the bartender is miserable and only feels like taking care of certain guests not others. Awesome knockoff of the Kinchley's thin crust pie, just not quite as fabulous. Good salad bar, really nice Italian/ American menu. I can't recall ever having a bad meal here! You can tell that everything is made fresh to order. Okay service. Since you can go in through the front or side doors, it's a bit awkward to get a table sometimes. Also,they get quite busy and you sometimes have to wait... with no area to do so. If you're looking for a pizza style place, that's the back section of the restaurant. The bar section of the restaurant is slightly nicer and definitely more sit-down style. read more

Seems like a typical American bar and restaurant. We just picked up some pizza for the kids but it seemed fairly packed / popular. The salad bar is a nice touch and the atmosphere seemed good. I'll definitely stop in again if we're on the area. As for the pizza, it was very thin crust (which I think they are known for). They didn't have by-the-slice or kids pizza's so we got a "bar pie". Kinchley's was packed on a Monday night at 6 so we headed over to Nellie's for our pizza instead. 3 stars for two reasons- one, there were two hostesses when we walked in. One older, one younger. They continued talking to each other for a minute before looking our way to seat us. Even then, it was my husband who said two please. I heard the hostesses great other patrons with a "how are you tonight?" after we arrived. We did not receive that friendly greeting. The second reason for the 3 stars is the wait for a waiter to come over. We were sitting for ten minutes before our drink order was taken. It didn't bother me, but my husband was put off. After that though, our waiter was attentive and on point. As for the food, the bacon pie was delicious. Just the right crispiness (a word???!?) without being too crunchy. My husband loved the salad bar, but was not impressed with the cheesesteak sandwich. We will be back for the pizza! read more
