Although the pizza was very good, the star of the menu was definitely the wings! The place was family friendly which I always appreciate as a mom. The service was slow because they were busy and the drink orders were confused multiple times but they seemed to be college kids trying their best! Very good service from the young, high school aged waiter. Had the calamari for an appetizer, which seemed like it was frozen, not fresh. Not sure what's going on with Nellie's lately, but the service the last 4 times I have been there with my family has been HORRIFIC. The last time I was there, broke the camel's back & won't be coming back. Saw someone had a very similar experience to me and it almost like I wrote it myself. Came in with my 2 kids around 4pm. Hardly any customers there, but there was one table in our section. Was sat in the corner. After we were sat, NO ONE came over to our table. Proceeded to watch one waiter write the specials on the board. Then, the waitress, who was serving the other table, sat down 5 feet away from us, proceeded to write down the specials, never acknowledged us, and walked away. After 15 minutes with no one coming to our table, we got up and left. The younger host said "Have a nice day" as we walked out, without noticing we had just gotten up and left without ever being served. I prefer to support local businesses and have enjoyed the thin crust pizza, Elkin wings, and food at Nellie's for years, but the employees don't seem to care anymore. In the 3 prior visits, the waiters and waitresses made us feel like we were bothering them with our orders and were unfriendly. read more

I came here with a group of friends on a Wednesday night where we discovered a wait time of 20 minutes. We waited it out, and I was glad we did! We started with the appetizer sampler, which was a decent amount for the five of us. We also had the spinach and artichoke dip, which was very creamy and delicious. I had the BBQ Chicken wrap with cheddar, and it was good for the first half. The flavor became too overwhelming when I was eating the second half, so I didn't finish it. My friends got burgers, which were nothing special to look at. The rasher cheddar burger wasn't so pretty to look at, and my friend did not enjoy the taste. Nellie's is famous for their pizza, so I would definitely give that a shot if I were to be back. Parking is ample since they have 3 divided lots, and you just have to park neatly. We've been here a few times and it's hit or miss. Today it was a hit. We were very pleased with the food today - it was very good. The only issue I had was that the waitress made a comment that she was supposed to leave but would take our order to passive-agressively let us know that she's doing us a favor. I didn't feel welcome and felt like I had to really smooze her so that we would get good service. I had just come from the hospital where a family member is very ill. I was exhausted and didn't need this added stress. Clue your wait staff in that customers are there to be served and don't want to hear it. Also, I'm sure you know that you have a knat problem. You may want to hire a company to get rid of those. Annoying. You're restaurant was not our first choice, all others were closed. It was an enjoyable and decent meal on this day. read more

A staple. A family place. The only place all of my out of town friends and family want to re visit. The place my dad wants to stop in first when he comes into town. I feel like this place has been passed down in generations as a favorite. My dad would take me for wings when I was very little. And now my son is obsessed with the wings. I love seeing the familiar staff from when I was a child. It's a comfortable feeling. And being in the hospitality industry, I love seeing that they allow their employees to climb the ladder. I recognize old serve staff as managers now and that's a beautiful thing. I have not ventured into the rest of their menu. I have only had a few apps, wings of course, pizza, and their salad bar. How Nellies can have 3.5 stars is beyond me. As a local I try my best to support local businesses. This is truly a place that for undiscerning and uneducated degenerates. In the heart of the pandemic, June 2020, I placed a pickup order. They didn't include several items I ordered and the person on the phone was rude. That said, the pizza was good! I have ordered several time times since then, and the consistency of food is very poor. Sometimes the pizza is excellent, though the majority of times it is barely edible. The only consistent part of the experience is the rude staff and lack of Covid protocols. Now in August 2021, they are in full swing and jam packed. I ordered 8 pizzas, several apps and sandwiches. Yet again, they did not include all of the food I ordered and paid for. Yet again, the staff was rude. The difference this time was the inedible food. Several of the pizzas were so soggy and undercooked my guests didn't eat them. Also, they didn't even get my order correct. Imagine pizza so poorly prepared that toddlers, teenagers, and adults all would not it after a day of swimming. We actually threw out the food and decided to order from a different local restaurant. Just understand what Nellies Place is: a low-life bar with a management to match. The food and service here is not welcoming. This is simply a dive bar in an expensive town. Overpriced - check. The food here is never good. Sorry,I know it's a popular local place and I want to like it but it's ...just...not....good. Dry chicken every time. No flavor, no seasoning. I got some chicken fajita sandwich and they slapped a few peppers onto a "generic" chicken breast I imagine they use for 5 different sandwiches, melt some cheese over the top and call it a day. Visited 02/21/2020 We love thin crust pizza and this place has really good thin crust pizza. We've been coming here for many years and it's always the same. Well, this time the pie could have been left in the oven for a bit longer. We like the crust crispy... and this time it was a bit soft. That's not going to stop us from coming back though. We came with the family. 2 adults 2 children We got there around 6:45ish and we waited for about 5 minutes. The woman taking the names at the front seemed like she wasn't having the best day but it didn't ruin our time. The room is noisy and there is a bar which was packed in a separate area..with tables as well. We ordered the large pizza and two kids meals. The kids meals were Mac and Cheese (homemade) and Hotdog (which comes with fries and the hotdog was really big). Apple juice doesn't come with meal and if you get them, they are juice boxes. The pizza was really good. Thin crust.The kids liked it too! We finished it. We left not full but satisfied and our bill was under $30 so that was a plus. We will definitely be back! read more

Took my wife and daughter here on a recent Friday night. People were streaming into the place. I soon found out why. Bar pie - spectacular. Worth the 40-minute drive to get there. Crispy. Thin. This is an 8 year and 2 month update to my last review. The food is as great as it was in my last review and just the way it was decades and decades ago. Sometimes in movies, there is an establishment, whether a restaurant or bar, that is authentic where people go and eat, that's been around since they were kids, and is still around and as great as it was back in the "good old days." Well, this place exists in real life, and it's called Nellie's Place. Lots of memories at Nellie's Place, we still see familiar faces, the restuarant has been renovated and modernized throughout the years, but still some of the best pizza and potato skins anywhere. This place easily gives John's of Bleecker a run for its money. But for me, the memories, nostalgia, and the consistency and quality of the food makes it #1 in my book. read more

I really enjoy Nellies Place. A few co-workers of mine introduced me to this restaurant and whenever we are looking for a bite to eat after work, we always seem to gravitate to Nellies. We always tend to order the same thing, but why deviate when the food you order is just that delicious? We usually have the Elkin Wings and a small Greek Salad to start, with a thin crust Pizza to share. All the food is top notch. I love the seasoning for the Elkin Wings, they are just so different compared to your standard buffalo wings. The small Greek Salad is a perfect size to share with a few people, always chopped nicely, and generous with the feta cheese and dressing (which is always important to me). Their thin crust pizza is delicious and I seriously could eat a whole one by myself, but I realize I am sharing with people and have to act like a normal human being. But seriously, I am pretty sure I could eat a whole pizza by myself. Sure, as others pointed out, the restaurant style is a little dated, but I think that's what gives it its charm. I prefer to sit at a high top in the bar area when I come to dine. And speaking of the bar, they have a good assortment of bottled beers if you are up for trying something a little different. Had lunch today, and the one waitress seemed to be working hard to serve the growing crowd which accumulated while we were there. It did take over 10 minutes for her to come over to us the first time but once we placed our order, things moved along at a normal pace. Had the bar pie today. It was good as usual. Wow, I was actually frightened! I came into the bar area and there wasn't anyone at the hostess area. There was a bartender standing behind the bar just looking at me and I eventually said can I just sit? And he said, "I don't care"... He said listen honey you heard what I said, don't get up and not wear a mask again! Well that's when I got mad and I said don't call me honey, how dare you disrespect me like that's, this isn't the 1950s and I'm not your honey! Hadn't been here for a while, we decided to go on New Year's Eve for a casual bite to eat. We were one of three tables that our young waitress had. We placed our drink / appetizer order which consisted of a Kettle & club no ice & 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell & a large pie, extra sauce with meatballs & peppers, well done. Out came my drink-with ice, 1/2 dozen clams & a large pie with hardly any sauce, mushrooms & peppers & NOT well done. For my entree I ordered wings & a side salad, when the wings came out, they were cold. Will not be back. Our waitress was polite, however she was definitely distracted by some sort of argument she was having with the bartender, I know this bc she was cursing & telling her coworker all about the argument at the table behind ours. 3.5 stars... This is a gorgeous Irish pub. During COVID they've been able to set up a giant tent with heaters in the back parking lot but I certainly look forward to the upcoming years where I can eat and drink in their spotless area inside. I've eaten there a few times and can say that their normal pizza is excellent. Really top notch bar pies. They're ultra thin and delicious. Don't try to get fancy with your pizza order though. Their interpretation of a margherita pizza is to just plop down giant slices of tomatoes as a topping. I also made the mistake of asking for basil on the pizza once and they put it on prior to cooking so I ended up with a bunch of crispy leafs that lacked flavor. I'd recommend going with a standard pepperoni or sausage and ask for it with diavolo (where they add just a bit of spice to the pizza to take it up a notch). I also love how their sausage is a combo of crumbly with some slices and not just slices of sausage like most places. As far as their other food goes, I've tried their burger and french dip and was disappointed with both. A lot more bread than needed with quality lower than you'd get a couple blocks down at Amster's Propect Tavern. Stick to classic bar pies and you'll be coming back here for years! read more

Nellie's Place holds a lot of memories for me. When I was younger, my family would come here whenever we were in the mood for their famous thin-crust pizza. Occasionally, we'd indulge in one of their sandwiches or a bowl of their French onion soup as well. We recently returned after several years, and despite our inability to dine in at the time, takeout proved to be sufficient (and in accordance with our social distancing efforts too). My family kept it simple and ordered a few large cheese pizzas. Don't be fooled by its name - a "large" is only 14", meaning it's extremely easy for two people to devour. The crust is light and crispy, and thin enough that it would likely fall apart if someone attempted to add more than a single topping. But honestly, I don't think toppings are necessary with this pizza. It isn't for everyone, but I personally love the thin-crust style, and Nellie's has always been near the top of the list. I really don't think the recipe has changed at all over the years. While indoor dining has resumed, the restaurant has decided to maintain the outdoor seating area for the foreseeable future. And of course, takeout remains an option for those who aren't quite ready to venture out to eat yet. read more

I was really excited to come to Nellie's place for my birthday dinner with my dad, his girlfriend and my daughter. I haven't been here in probably 15 years. I was quickly disappointed. We walked in on the bar side and the man working nicely told us to walk through and then we could take a seat on the restaurant side. We took a seat because there was no one standing at the desk and all of the seats were open. The host then starts yelling at my dad's girlfriend, saying "Excuse me what are you doing!!" She completely flipped out that we sat down. My 2 year old had to go to the bathroom so we went there before sitting down and then I came out and asked for a high chair for my daughter. She got really nasty with me and rudely asked me where I would put it. I said at our table..... and she just continued to give attitude. She made me extremely uncomfortable. The food was good, and everyone else working was kind. However, not worth going back due to being treated like we were nuisances by the host. Came in for oizza and wings for Sat lunch. We arrived at ariund 12:30 and it was pretty busy! We were lucky to get seated and served quickly There seemed to be a private event in the entire backroom going on. The bar area was nicely filled by patrons also. I was suprised to see how busy they were earlier in the day. We ordered a reg cheese pizza. It was good and thin and fresh but I've had better. I would have loved to try other varieties but my som wanted to be simple that day. We also tried the buffalo wings which had a good taste, were warm, inclided blue cheese and celery at a great price but some wings were a bit rough and dry. Overall everything was OK. The service is impersonal only because of the zoo-like atmosphere. If you just want a good thin crust pizza, order as many as you need to pick up and go. We tried Nellie's for the first time this week and was disappointed.We got the Elkin wings that were ok but nothing to really write home about and then we ordered a large pizza.The pizza we ordered was with bacon and onions.The bacon was undercooked and the pizza had little sauce and the sauce that was on the pizza had no flavor.Then as I picked up my 3rd slice of pizza there was a long dark hair stuck to the bottom of it .I put the slice of pizza down and left it on my plate and threw the hair on the ground.Being that it was our fist time at Nellie's we didn't want to make a big deal out of it cause the waiter was a young kid and was so nice..I felt bad.We will consider coming back. read more
