I'm not much of a "high-end" shopper and generally tend to stay out of stores where I could easily spend my entire paycheck on one item ;) However, bored on my birthday (which fell on a Monday so everyone but me had to work) and shopping Michigan Ave I stopped in. Having all the time in the world, I let Christina at the Laura Mercier counter do my makeup. Happy with the makeup I decided to buy some. The only problem, I left my amex card at home and they don't take visa :( So I decided to open a NM credit card. I had to go upstairs to the 3rd floor for customer service and answer the most personal of security questions on a phone (they take their security very seriously). Well, the lady at the perfume counter helped me open it, her computer is in a more remote location so I'm not sharing my social with all the shoppers and she was quite nice as well (I didn't get her card and don't recall her name). So for all my time and troubles, they gave me lots of samples :) Wonderful, wonderful stuff that I love! So thanks to amazing customer service I love getting makeup and perfume there. Not once have I gone there and felt pressured to buy stuff I can't afford or felt that they were being snooty. I don't shop much on the other floors, so I can't say much about the rest of the store. Customer service at this location has been consistently horrible for more than a handful of years. Anytime you need help it's hit (but mostly miss) in terms of accomplishing anything without a fight. Whoever "manages" this location should get looked into...these poorly trained and rude staff are reflective of a larger culture. read more

The land of Neiman's! Where designer handbags are aplenty, and you have the best selection of couture designer and ready-to-wear. Best shoe selection - ask for Henry. In spite of it all, I still find it hard to shop there as the associates are not the most helpful and alittle on the curt side, like walking two steps might ruin their Manolo's! Oh well, since there is a friendly war between NM & Saks to snag the frivolous customer, I enjoy crossing the street to see what Saks has to offer and find the sales associates happy to escort me around all departments and carry my selections! You can't beat that. NM needs to step up their customer service game and update the visuals in the store. read more

The best thing about this store is they allow you to bring your dog along while you shop! The sales people are really friendly when you have a dog and are quick to give your dog a treat. They allow dogs of all sizes. I shopped with an 80 pound dog and no one had a problem. This store is expensive, but they have good sales from time to time. read more

Love this location. I needed some makeup and ran into an amazing makeup artist named Pam @ Laura Mercier. Being a #makeupartist myself, I'm a little weary of sales staff and being oversold. Still my wonderland ... I could spend days and days at Neimans, finding millions of wonderful treasures; but money is an object. Unfortunately, these days all I can splurge is one treasure a visit. I must admit, this Neiman's could use a little face-lift. The fixtures are a bit worn. And signage a bit tattered, not what you'd expect from Neimans. However, I can overlook worn out and tattered decor to find glorious goodies as long as they provide exceptional customer service and that they do. Mary Jo (shoe salon) is wonderful! I spoke with her on the phone prior to my visit to ensure they had the item I was looking for. She was professional and courtesy on the phone and just the same in person. In a busy shoe salon with more customers than sales associates it may be tempting for them to throw the shoes in your lap and move on the the next customer. We all know they work on commission. She didn't do that, she acknowledged the other customers, but kept her focus and attention on the customer she was dealing with until she had a satisfied shopper. Then on to the next. Although, the decor and fixtures may be a bit worn the customer service is still superior! Can't wait for my next visit. read more

NM (or, as one of my friends' boyfriends called it, Mark Newman) is really a mixed bag. It is such a service-oriented store, and yet their sales associates really run the gamut. While I was roaming the third floor, the first two sales associates that approached me looked like they were models who worked part-time on the weekends... like this wasn't their real job but they would deign to answer a question if they had to. And then the third associate I ran into was so cute and adorable I couldn't NOT buy from her. Even though I was only trying on a few items, she dropped by every few minutes to check on me. (Also, points for the awesome blazer she had on.) But then all the warm fuzzies from that experience came crashing down with the shoe department, when I tried five times to flag down an associate. I then had to wait forever to purchase even though she had no issues cooing over shoes with another customer who was trying on Louboutins. Again, I understand that she gets a smaller commission from my purchase, but pfff. Since I work in retail, I'm shocked by how old some of the fixtures/lighting in the store are. I would have thought NM would have updated this every few years, since, you know, most of their upcharge goes to the shopping experience. read more

After an exhausting search in three different states I finally found my mother of the groom dress. The ladies in the gown department were so helpful, every detail was tended to. They made me feel valued, beautiful and taken care of relieving me of the stress of the perfect dress for this very special occasion. Kathy my sales lady was so attentive to each detail as well as the department manager and her assistant. They called the alterations lady and she was amazing too. Always phenomenal. I've been looking for a new cocktail dress for wedding season and wanted something trendy that would stand the test of time. Also, I wanted something that would be appropriate to wear to a downtown wedding and also out to dinner. Neiman's always blows me away with their selection. I could spend hours walking around just gawking at the different boutiques. Granted, its total fantasy shopping (because who can afford $2,400 Chloe over the knee boots), but I have to say, its a great place for inspiration. I had set a budget of $300 and I'm happy to say, I stayed on budget. I spent most of my time combing through the dress shop on the third floor with Kelly, the sales associate. She pulled several great finds that I would have never tried on my own, and she gave honest feedback on what looked best (especially helpful since I was there alone, and sometimes you just need another set of eyes). I ended up selecting a one-shoulder water colored Ali Ro cocktail dress. Alterations were gratis and done overnight. When I arrived to pick up the dress, it had already been steamed, bagged and tagged with my name. If you want Neiman's style with a little less cost, I've also had great experiences at Cusp, which is a Neimans concept aimed at a younger demographic. I don't know if they have them in the Midwest but they have a great website, and even decent sales! Even if you don't leave with anything...go for inspiration. They really are the best of the best. read more

Stepping through the fur protestors' picket line in front of the store on Michigan Avenue is a singular experience. Just watch out for the red paint if you're actually wearing fur. You have to love a place that elicits picketers! The selection of menswear is pretty minimal, but they only sell the top names. The shoe selection is exceptional and is a great place to find some of the best Italian designs anywhere and it's nice to have them all grouped together in a department store setting. Browse their groovy cufflinks and ties. I'm also a fan of their home accessories and stationery. Look for exclusives throughout the store, items that are sold only at Neiman Marcus. The staff can be a bit staid, but if you open up to them they'll come around, especially if you're a regular. read more

OMG only I would say I'm never going somewhere and then go again. What a dumbo. Anyways, I saw the man I referred to in my first review. I dodged him and thankfully another sales rep offered to help. Then, in an unfortunate twist of fate, he handed me off to the guy in my first review because he was too busy!! ahhhhhhh He was ok this time...maybe TOLERABLE is a better word. Maybe he just has a big personality. I don't know. All I know is that I feel like this stuff only happens to ME, but then again, it's my own fault. I had a lovely experience at Saks before I decided to go into NM. On another note, the increased star is a result of the good experience I had down in jewelry where I bought myself a little present. Nice store with quality brands...I went specifically to pick up some Jo Malone products for the Missus and her Mother. Service was excellent and the gentleman staffer expertly guided me through all the options...even though I knew what I wanted, I appreciate someone who knows 'their business or product' so followed along. The lovely lady who checked me out threw in an extra tote (you rec'd a free tote for spending $100 +, a breeze at a place like this) but couldn't oblige when i asked her to throw in an extra candle too; the candles were $65, so it's understandable, but had to give it a shot either way. Downside, NM doesn't accept Visa or Master Card which is primarily a "status" move on their part, but let's be honest, they're only turning away business and basically cutting off their nose to spite their face, metaphorically speaking. read more

A little disappointed with this Neiman Marcus =/ As I stepped in I felt that it was very very outdated compared to the Neiman Marcus' in California. They still carry luxury goods but there is definitely less to choose from (however their Chanel section is very good). They also lack a Neiman Marcus cafe which was very surprising. Their service overall was slow and we had to get the employees' attentions from 3 different departments with the exception of the ladies shoe department where they were very attentive. read more

Definitely one of the better Neiman's I have ever been to. I hit this one at the beginning of December during First Cuts and there was a ton of selection. Waaaay more than my usual SF or Palo Alto branches. And the clothes were organized neatly on the racks in size order! What more can you ask for? And yes, even though the prices can be astronomical, when it's sale time, you can actually find some pretty good deals. read more

Went in to do some shopping today and was quite disappointed with employees and service provided. I entered from Michigan Ave side and made my way to the escalators. On my way there a old lady with a bunch of cologne bottles was nagging that I try the product, I politely said "no thank you" but she kept nagging so i let her spray some on my forearm. Next my mother wanted some shoes she had previously spotted so we headed to the women's shoe department. We took the shoe she wanted and asked a sales rep to gave us the appropriate size, she took the shoe and left. About 10minutes later another sales rep asked us if we need anything, we told him that the other sales rep was getting the shoes but was taking a long time, he said there might be looking for a size. 5 min after the original sales representative come up and said that she will bring the shoes from a different side. We waited 10more minutes and left. On our way to the escalators we see the same representative assisting other people with their purchase, she even had the nerve to yell "Thanks for coming". I definitely expect better service than this, as we waited over 20min for shoes that never came. The sales reps on the men's site were pretty good and accommodating. Much better than the ones on the women's side. read more

I thought it might have been just that day, but I got the same treatment the last four times I visited as well. I don't even want to give a star for the 3rd floor, a sales person. First of all, the sales person supposed to help/care of the customer. Period. If you don't want to assist anything for the customer, quit your job!! I am a regular customer there, I always shop at Neiman. I bought a suit last week and needed to get hem my pants up. I have measured it myself at home, because I have a specific shoes I want to wear with that suit. I have explained everything to the sales person but she didn't care of me, nothing. I was the first customer there, but she started to taking care of other customers. wtf? I have spoke to a manager at 3rd floor and explained everything. She totally understood what I needed, what I wanted. She is just a dumb sales person that cannot deal with a customer who needs alterations. Came here to get a big bottle of the Agraria Lemon Verbana shampoo. After experiencing this at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC, I absolutely loved the smell of this shampoo. It kind of has a nicer smell of Fruit Loops. Anyways, I had called ahead of time to make sure they had some and they told me yes. However, when I got there that same day, they only had the travel size bottles. They told me that they actually do not carry the bigger size bottles of this shampoo. Was not very happy except that the girl helped me find a nice smelling bottle of shampoo. Not as good as the Agraria but still pretty good. read more

What used to be a worthy store is now just one big scam. They are discriminatory and overpriced for the headache you get when you purchase things here. I have had plenty of wonderful experiences here and spent thousands of dollars in the process....but now all the sudden I am not a good enough customer and I have been put on a list of everything I purchase being a "final sale". With the economy many stores are doing this to save money, but at the expense of a lot of impending lawsuits and angry customers. It is downright discriminatory. Do not shop here if you have any inclination to purchase something and change your mind...even when you bring it back unworn, tags attached, with receipt, Amex in hand...you will get the run-around and walk out feeling like crap. Do not buy a Goyard bag at this store. I ordered the bag over the phone and gave my shipping address and bag I wanted to the store employee. He sent the bag to the wrong address and I had to spend extra money on shipping to have the bag delivered to the correct address. I told the person who took my order that it was a gift. HE NEVER INFORMED ME THEY HAVE A 14 DAY RETURN POLICY. I took the wrapped gift to my daughter only to find out he sent me the wrong bag. When we returned it to the store on Michigan Ave the store clerk informed me we couldn't return it because it was over 14 days. They shipped the wrong bag to the wrong address, and then told me they wouldn't take it back! After I threw a major fit, they agreed to return it. I would recommend spending your money on a higher quality bag that offers good customer service read more

They were running a promotion that for every $500 spent in store, you received a $100 gift card. I spent $1990, so obviously I would spend at least another $10 to make it to $2000, thus earning another $100 gift card. Their associate confirmed that a purchase of a beauty product (which well exceeded the minimum $10 I needed) would qualify. Turns out, it didn't qualify per the "rules", and I was shorted $100. I called InCircle (their credit card company) who told me to go in-store to receive the missing $100 so I wouldn't have to wait for it to be mailed out. Their customer service department couldn't correct the error right then and there as I was informed on the phone. Instead they had to put in a claim with InCircle which then strung me along for 3 weeks. The manager than "upped" the claim to readdress it since she recognized their error (but bizarrely couldn't end the issue right then and there by issuing me a gift card. The new claim took at least another 3 weeks (no one has called me since then to update me). After being misled by two employees and committing 6+ weeks, several phone calls, and a store trip, I decided to contact the general customer support team via e-mail. My complaint was received (as evidenced by an e-mail telling me so), however, no one ever got back to me (this was a couple weeks ago). Considering how many other department stores are in their immediate vicinity, I'm shocked at this level of customer service. From now on, I'll just shop at Saks. I suggest you do the same. read more

I am a bargain shopper and I really don't get into the whole designer brand thing...although, I do like quality. At any rate, there are two things I believe you should spend your money on...good shoes and good purses. Leather goods are not something you should scrimp on. So, I have a client whose office is in the same bldg. I've been here a year, but I always go AROUND the store (to the side/office entrance) when I am working. Why? After all of the reviews, re: snotty sales clerks, I assumed they'd take one look at me in my J Crew suit, SW practical pumps and pharmaceutical rep briefcase (code word...huge!) and call security. But, the last month (or so) I have said to heck with walking thru sub zero temps and I have strutted my plump, little bum straight thru the store. A few times, I've stopped to look at things like the Prada Anniversary Bag (sigh) and drool. So, it was a total surprise when the sales clerks started talking to me!? Complimenting my Thomas Pink shirt...or the lovely scarf my daughter knitted. It was a complete and total surprise when one of them asked for my card. Said she'd call me when the Prada Anniversary bag went on sale!? Note: She called!! Held the purse for three days until I returned from a trip...it was HALF price!? Or, when the sales associate who admired my Burberry scarf -- asked if I'd seen the awesome sale at the Burberry store?! Certainly, the one who "played" with my dad - while he waited for me to work - had to be an anomoly. Of course, it paid off for her! He bought two ties, cologne and had made it to the women's purse section to buy this crazy Zac Posen something (he hated the Prada) when I caught him and put a stop to it!! LOL Hmmm. Both times I've been in here, I just get a weird feeling here. ALL of the women employees I saw were heavily scented and heavily made up. Oddly there are a lot of older employees (which is fine with me) but they all seem to be stuck up like Neiman Marcus is the best store out there and you should be thankful you were let through the door. Yesterday I watched 3 associates sit in front of the shoe department instead of assisting me. One lady greeted me but didn't offer her assistance. I walked around the shoe department for 15 minutes, and finally one of them noticed and offered to help. Unlike the other 2 associates she was conversing with other guest. I explained to her I have the same experience every time I come to this location. Another lady walked in and was assisted right away. Not sure why I don't receive the same service. read more

When will this GM train her sales staff that not everyone that shops their store is in Chicago Social pages. Perhaps she is an heiress visiting from LA, or a software mogul from San Fran., or a multimillionaires from Houston,Texas. I love the Zodiac room for lunch, oh the pop overs all are such a delight or is it the strawberry butter I love so. However,the minute I start to shop, I get that "you are invisible treatment." Mink coat, Chanel bag, and Chanel boots armed with a smile. My good mood gets reduced to a "is anyone going to wait on me aggravation. For a commission based store it is amazing the poor sales attitude. Not a "Hello or a Hi, on 3 different floors is amazing. However this has been going on for years here. Out the door I went across the store I went, Saks Fifth Avenue where I was greeted, smiled at and helped. Out I walked with a new St John suit, thank you Elizabeth, 4 pairs of Manolo Blahnik shoes, Chanel Makeover and 350.00 worth of makeup thanks to Karen.
