I want to share my absolutely ridiculous experience buying online with NM Chicago. I purchased a pair of Chopard Happy Heart diamond earrings in June 2022 (about $2800 with taxes) which arrived without a certificate of authenticity. I contacted NM Chicago jewelry department numerous number of times. Their response was: We are very short staffed in out office and getting anything done has been a struggle. I'm sick, will push my manager to order it. And soon and so forth. Finally, after 6 months of waiting I opened a dispute at my bank as the item came without a certificate of authenticity. And can you believe? It was denied twice. It means that NM can legally sale designer diamond jewelry without certificates of authenticity. I contacted Chopard directly to get the certificate, but they said, I would need to contact NM so that that could provide me with the certificate. Stay away from shopping at Neiman Marcus!!!!! read more

First time downtown since COVID began. Didn't wear any of my nice jewelry because of the riots that happened last summer and overall crime issues. So I dressed down. Every where I went in the store people greeted me and I felt they were friendly. There was a gentleman that saw my daughter and I looking at a Disney inspired display at the Estee Lauder area and came over to show us the items. He was such a pleasure to talk with! A+ However, we had a strange interaction with a guy in the jewelry department. Telling me that Tiffany doesn't do Platinum. Lol, what a lie. I wanted to called him out on it, but didn't. Maybe I didn't have a certain look and he thought I wouldn't know, but I personally have platinum jewelry from Tiffany's & Van Cleef & Arpels. Oh well. This place was big and huge. They have easy and free parking lot. You can easily park with no hassle at all. They have lot of different stall inside and have a food court. I went here to buy some groceries. They have a different selection of food. I went first to the produce section; they have full of stock. It's all fresh and looks delicious to cook. I bought lettuce, carrots, apple, grapes, orange, strawberries and blueberries. Next I went to the seafood section. It looks fresh and comes from the aquarium. Its pricey so I only bought 1 kilo of shrimp. Then I went to snacks section and bought a lot of it.The customer service was great and even help me to pack my things. read more

Up to 40% selected designer items going on now for their spring sale! I love Neiman Marcus and made sure to make a quick shop while walking around downtown Chicago during my vacation with my husband. This store seems to be smaller than the one I frequent back home, but still have a great selection of high end designer brands. The handbags can be found on the 1st floor (there is also a Chanel boutique here). The 2 employees whom I encountered were friendly and told me to let them know if I would like them to unlock any of the handbags to try on. Unfortunately I left empty handed because I just don't have enough space to bring back home in my luggage and also the sales tax here in Chicago is higher than back at home. The worst experience I had during my stay in the US was shopping at Neiman Marcus on Michigan Ave. in Chicago. I bought a dress there for my wife for $420, which I paid for in cash. Unfortunately, the dress turned out to be too big for my wife and we went to return it to this store. Unfortunately, the manager did not want to return the money to me without an American driving license. I explained to her for 20 minutes that I'm a tourist from Poland and I can't do them because I'm here as a tourist. I tried to give her a Polish passport and a Polish driving license, but the manager didn't even want to look and demanded only American documents. Unfortunately, the manager's intellectual capacity to understand the whole situation was beyond her and at the end of the conversation she only said that I could sell the dress on eBay. In my opinion, this woman's completely unprofessional approach to the whole situation. At the end, the manager started behaving rudely and just smiled evilly at my anger at the whole situation. Finally, a piece of advice for tourists from outside the US... never pay cash at Neiman Marcus because you will not get your money back if you return the purchased items without a US ID or US driving license . read more

I came here on a biting January day, having already done some damage at Water Tower Place. A friend was visiting from out of town and she needed good leather gloves, stat, after her others had been misplaced in a cab. We decided to venture into NM, in the hopes that she could find a suitable replacement. Even though the glove selection was a miss, the store itself was inspiring and opened up a new vista of shopportunities, especially as I can't recall the last time that I stepped into this, or any other, outpost of NM. This store seemed to be undergoing a remodel, though I do recall a swoon-worthy robin's egg blue Valentino studded tote that is quickly becoming an obsession. The highlight of the stop off here was a trip up to the Zodiac Room, on the 4th floor. We were fortunate to be seated near a window, and found the service to be attentive but not hovering. The hot tea selection is comprehensive and the desserts are definitely above average--our table ended up splitting a creme brulee and a piece of the carrot cake. I preferred the creme brulee to the carrot cake, which is more a reflection of my personal taste than any objective qualities of the desserts. No review of the Zodiac room would be complete without a mention of their signature popovers which, up to now, I had not sampled. The accompanying strawberry spread was excellent, though it seemed like my popover was crumb-ier than the others at the table, as I had a veritable waterfall of crumbs near my place setting. Refills to tea and hot water came frequently and unobtrusively, and we were allowed to linger long after we finished munching. I probably won't make this department store restaurant a regular stop--for that I have the cafe at Bloomingdales, which also happens to sell fro yo--but for a once in a while treat, the Zodiac room is worth it. read more

I love the shoe women's shoe salon and the sales associate there are always helpful. Iv'e been in there with some outlandish requests and even if their not able to meet the demands, they always try. The service here is top notch, I came in needing to repair a strap on my Valentino Rockstuds, which ripped because it was entirely my fault. Instead of repairing it they gave me a whole new pair after they already spent 45 mins trying to locate my receipt, because I lost the original receipt. The bracelet was to be available in store for pickup on FATHER'S DAY. I called to inquire about the cancellation and no one could tell me WHY it was canceled. They offered the lame canned customer service fake empathetic line "I'm sorry for the inconvenience". It's July 14 and I'm still bothered by how they mishandled this transaction. Now I would never usually bother writing a review of, say, Selfridges or Harrods in London. Everyone knows the deal - they sell expensive things which are very very lovely. Sometimes it has sales, which is when I go, or it happens to be the only place that has concealer in stock, or it's payday and they accidentally added a zero and it's like heaven... (oh, damn, that was a dream). You get the picture. Neiman Marcus is the same (except sans elaborate egyptian escalator, FYI if you're ever near Harrods). However, I've never been shopping where the experience is so diminished by the disparate attitudes of the staff. Hence, a review (some might call it a rant): I visited the second floor on my first visit. A fitting room was started with the approximately one bagillion items I felt the need to try on, with no eyebrow raising at the fact it was pretty obvious I wasn't going to be able to buy even half of them. The fitting room was splendidly huge, no-one bugged me to hurry up so I enjoyed my alone time with messieurs Jacobs et al. I did actually buy some stuff but I don't feel like I would've been spat at if I didn't. Downstairs, I feared for my life. The bizarre system whereby a 'sales associate' follows you around while actual helpful friendly people assist you with your makeup choices is stupid. I found what I wanted and went to pay (sorry, was led to the chopping block, more like), then got sidetracked by some obscenely priced eyeshadow... I thought the 'sales associate' was going to stab me for dilly dallying. I even felt the need to apologise for wanting to buy something extra, which is a unique spin on customer service. Her reply to my mumbled sorry was that she was 'here till 6 so she had nothing better to do'. Charming! Then I handed over a Mastercard - she shook her head and wouldn't even touch the thing, perhaps she could see the non-Neiman-marcus germs on it. I didn't know the OTHER bizarre system whereby they only take their own currency, or something. But HA! - my helpful friendly person (Cheryl at Guerlain, thank you for saving me) let her know that I could, in fact, pay on Mastercard by warrant of my being foreign! Hurrah. More dagger stares. She pointed out resentfully that she would have to traverse the - gasp - escalator to process my transaction. This was a shame as I hoped she might have the opportunity to trip up some stairs and display her knickers, or some other humiliating disaster. Alas, no. But I escaped with my purchases and my life, more than a little confused. At least in Harrods they all just ignore you, in that lovely British manner..... (PS. the clothing selection is hot, the cosmetics staff all seem extremely knowledgeable and skilled and thoughtful, and it's a particularly well laid out store.) read more

I wandered into Chanel and while the older male sales associate approached me, he still treated me like a damn peasant! I told him I planned on buying a Chanel bag by the time I'm 30, and at 29, I was ready to throw down for one. Did the dollar signs light up in his eyes? No. He condescendingly told me that I should "wait a few more months until my birthday to save up"......like I was a 5 year old trying to play dress up or some shit. He did pull out two classic bags for me to look at and *gasp* touch, but then he turned around and ignored me for over five minutes. What saved this review from being a 1 is the fabulous Acqua di Parma specialist on the first floor - an older lady from Italy. Whenever I visit top shelf retailers like Neiman, I always have to take a deep breath before I enter because I have no idea whether or not I will be profiled. Or ignored. Or treated like a peasant. Which makes absolutely no sense because I dress better than half of the residents in Chicago. Welp, my first visit to Neiman and I was not greeted, I walked past 5 associates before reaching the Acqua di Parma counter, and none of them interacted with me. Instead, they all hid behind their counters, and pretended not to see me. However, when I finally made my way to AdP, this larger than life, outspoken, Italian queen approached me and immediately began to parade me around her brand. I literally spent 40 minutes with her ; sniffing fragrances and testing candles, etc. Not only could she recommend every perfume/cologne that I would like based on fragrance notes I enjoy, she also knew which ones I would hate. I ended up spending $250 on a new cologne and because we had a great time, she sent me home with 3 complimentary travel size bottles of the other 3 fragrances I liked. THIS is why I love shopping. It sucks that the other associates weren't as amazing as she was. read more

For a high-end department store that treats you like the shit they stepped in if you're not draped in Chanel, they sure have crappy customer service. I felt like I was dealing with Charolette Russe, not a place for snooty rich people. The affluence is usually the type of thing I enjoy, because at least it comes with competence and attention. ....except for this place. I ordered a handbag online to pick up at the store. I had to wait over a week for it to be ready, and when it was finally there, I got very sick and asked them to hold it for me a little bit longer. I was told they can't do that. "Why?" I asked. "Because the executives decided." Um, the executives decided you may not veer off your script for a second and talk to me like one human being to another? Unless you want me to show up and give you my deadly flu while throwing up on the fine china on the fourth floor, I suggest you wait. No such luck, I was told the item would be shipped back and my money would be refunded...all after I waited over a week for it. Naturally, I called again hoping to actually talk to a human. I did, and the man I spoke to agreed to hold the bag, which was the only tolerable part of my experience dealing with this place. When I was finally able to pick up the bag, well, I should have inspected it at the store, but I honestly was not expecting Neiman Marcus of all places to give me a bag with TORN LEATHER on the bottom. Now in order to get a new bag I must make another trip down, hand them the bag, and wait for a whole new shipment. UGH. Never again. Ever feel like you are being stared down while shopping? I'll admit, I rarely dress up when out shopping. Often, you'll find me in comfy shoes, a pair of distressed relaxed jeans, and a simple back t-shirt. Maybe even a bandana or hooded sweater. WELL, I've never felt so out of place. Everytime I shop here I feel obligated to dress up.....even though I don't care enough to attempt the make over. I'll be honest, there is little that I can comfortably afford here. Everyone who works in this store probably eats at 5pm at the Drake. Why? Because they are all somewhat old and really snobby. And if they aren't old, they are still snobby and just as cold. Unless you are also old and draped in ice and fur, they will either not care about you or they will watch with hawk eyes as if you are going to steal something. Frick no they charged me 18 dollars extra for the city tax to exchange the same shoe. If saks would have had the shoes Neiman's would have lost the sale. Last Halloween I wore a complicated outfit that needed equally complicated "foundation garments"...NM to the rescue! The sales girl was so friendly and helped me find something that worked perfectly. I'm not much of a "high-end" shopper and generally tend to stay out of stores where I could easily spend my entire paycheck on one item ;) However, bored on my birthday (which fell on a Monday so everyone but me had to work) and shopping Michigan Ave I stopped in. Having all the time in the world, I let Christina at the Laura Mercier counter do my makeup. Happy with the makeup I decided to buy some. The only problem, I left my amex card at home and they don't take visa :( So I decided to open a NM credit card. I had to go upstairs to the 3rd floor for customer service and answer the most personal of security questions on a phone (they take their security very seriously). Well, the lady at the perfume counter helped me open it, her computer is in a more remote location so I'm not sharing my social with all the shoppers and she was quite nice as well (I didn't get her card and don't recall her name). So for all my time and troubles, they gave me lots of samples :) Wonderful, wonderful stuff that I love! So thanks to amazing customer service I love getting makeup and perfume there. Not once have I gone there and felt pressured to buy stuff I can't afford or felt that they were being snooty. I don't shop much on the other floors, so I can't say much about the rest of the store. Love this location. I needed some makeup and ran into an amazing makeup artist named Pam @ Laura Mercier. Being a #makeupartist myself, I'm a little weary of sales staff and being oversold.
