Beautiful 3 story Burberry store at the mag mile area in Chicago. Popped in to get perfume for my daughter. They did have a unique gift box available. Employee helping us was kind and made sure her gift was wrapped special for the holidays. Service is slow and not the place to go in a rush. We did get some side eye from one of the other employees which is unfortunate. We clearly aren't uber rich however we were legit purchasing something. Burberry Chicago is a flagship store, meaning they have the latest and more exclusive merchandise than other regular locations. I was told this is the 3rd largest Burberry store. To fit in with the beautiful Chicago architecture and to stand out amongst the shops on Magnificent Mile, this Burberry store building is a work of art in itself. It looks like a beautiful purse... One I would definitely buy. Burberry is my guilty pleasure of choice and I have been eyeing this Dark Birch Brown Check Tote for a few months. I have managed to resist because the location near me at South Coast Plaza cannot do the personalization in store, and then the online purchase would make me wait for a long time to get my purse. Thankfully for me, Ashley helped me with my shopping for the day and she informed me that the flagship location is able to get me my custom personalization ON THE SAME DAY. Wow. That temptation. So Ashley was kindly and patiently showing us around the store. There was so much inventory in this 5 story building (with 4 floors being retail). My local Burberry feels like half of their first floor. There were so many things to look at and add to my never-ending Burberry bucket list. Ultimately I gave into my temptation and got the purse! Ashley was so fun and informative, but she was never pushy on the sales. I got the space I needed to come to the decision on my own. Ashley confirmed the initials I wanted etched onto the tag: VD and sent me a text confirmation. She kept me updated the whole time so I was able to continue shopping on Magnificent Mile and come back when the purse was ready. The ETA was about an hour. It only took 15 minutes, but that's still nice not to wait around. When I got back to the Burberry store, Ashley was helping another customer so Christopher, the store Director, kindly stepped in to help me pick up my bag. He opened it so I could see my beautiful purse and even set up my bag for me to take my quick photo. The 5-star service continues. Christopher said they have something else for me and Ashley wraps up with her other customer so I was able to see her real fast. They gave me a stuninnnnggggg bouquet of red flowers. I felt so loved and valued as a customer. I will always look back at this purse and think of the amazing time I had with my friends in Chicago and Ashley and Christopher really helped contribute to my happy memories. I'm a huge fan of the Burberry brand so of course when visiting Chicago it is a definite stop. When walking in we were greeted right away by a lovely lady. She asked what we were looking for and when we told her she immediately went to what we requested. She was extremely thorough when explaining the different bags. One thing I would recommend for improvement is to give your customers a little space to talk amongst themselves. It feels very stalkerish but I get it, but there needs to somehow be a little more balance. I did purchase something and the process was very quick and overall a great experience. read more

I went into this store in January looking like a total freak show, with winter cycling gear and shoes, and a generally shabby look. No eyebrow was raised, and I was greeted very professionally. I talked to Kim about repairs on my ~40 year old jacket, and she was efficient and friendly as she sent it on to the favored corporate repair facilities. Bad experience: Christmas 2024 I have been a loyal Burberry shopper for over twenty years. Scarves, coats, shirts and bags. So when I wanted to buy my wife a new Christmas gift this year, my first stop was Burberry's Michigan Av, Illinois retail store on December 20th. Spotting nothing immediately, a clerk soon approached and led me to your "cape," collection. I liked the new look but knew nothing about how they fit, sizing, etc. My wife is petite, I said The clerk, Marcus, assured me they were one size fit all. "How do I know it fits my wife," I said. Don't worry, I will bring a petite sales person down to model it. She does, I continue to express hesitation as to thr fit, as my wife is 5'2" and 100lbs. But It looks nice, like a cape should as far as I know, so I spend $3800 and buy it. Importantly, Marcus makes no mention of having my wife to come in after holiday and ensure proper fit. He does not mention return policy requiring all tags. Maybe a simple, "have her come in and we can go over it's fit and style with her," as I mentioned we live right down the block. Or, if she is not sure she likes it, keep on all tags" and come back in to store. NOTHING is said. Every other high end shopping experience of mine, for my wife, bas included this type of service and offering of guidance and help. Christmas Day arrives and my wife tries it on. She loves it but has no experience with capes. She removed- but saves - the tags. Busy with holiday and an out of town departure the next day, she puts it aside. On our return she inspects and sees it sized "large." It's too big and falling off at her shoulders. I would never have bought my wife a large (or medium for that matter) of anything. Your sales clerk led me astray to get a commission and move the inventory they had on floor - it was the only one on the rack of that style. Today my wife went to Burberry to exchange it - no smalls in stock. She find a new item priced $2500 +tax. Exchanged but no return credit for the remaining $1,000. Gift card only! SHE HaS the tags! My wife feels "like an idiot," for removing tag. In the holiday rush she felt it fit okay and removed but saved the tag. But it did not. I return to the store to all to the "manager." He refused to do anything. We don't want a $1000 gift card. I don't want my wife feeling bad - I spent $3800 on what turns out to be a miserable gift! I am very disappointed to be treated this way by your store, Marcus and Burberry. She is not exchanging for a small item, but a sizeable item. Your store "manager" inability to correct his error has cost your Brand a loyal, high dollar, enthusiast and shopper. There was a discrepancy in their system, in terms of my coat repair. Kristy fixed everything, all with professionalism, great humility and apologies. At this point, it really doesn't matter how the other associates are (the males are mainly the snobby ones)--if you have the manager behind you, everyone else is background noise. When you go in, I recommend you ask for Svitlana, she is a great associate. If you have to deal with a manager, Kristy Kearns is a breath of fresh air. My faith in this local branch is restored - I feel like my patronage matters. read more

Worst experience ever. Horrible return policy and will have to seek litigation over exchange policy. Purchased a trench for $2400+tax on December 24th. Wife opened the gift on the 26th. Called on the 26th to find the proper size. Oakbrook location set it aside. Went out on the 27th for exchange. (I live 2 hours from the store) and Oakbrook accuses me of wearing it and trying to exchange. Also tells me there is an "aroma". Such a nasty condescending experience. Bring it to Chicago store to exchange after being advised by customer service.. Chicago (Alecia) says.. " no attached tag.. no exchange. Period" have a nice day. Dang. I wish I could buy stuff here. I am saving up for the 'little crush' bag. I was so surprised at how non-snobby and accommodating the staff was to my group of four girls, who obviously could not afford to actually buy anything major. They let us bring in our coffee and even offered up glasses of water. Burberry water? Yes, please! (I know it was just tap water, but still...) We had such a great time looking at the five floors of gorgeous bags and sunglasses and scarves and jackets and clothes.........they even let us try things on and touch whatever we wanted, including the $115,000 gold alligator jacket. We had a lovely conversation with a couple of the sales people about working there and the fabulous they see every day, as well as their lives. The staff were all really great. They explained items to us, even though they knew we would not be purchasing. They told us about their services and how you can 'build your own' trench coat online. The store itself is quite beautiful, the outside of the building is almost as fabulous as the items inside. It was clean and organized inside despite undergoing renovations making the stairs unacceptable; good thing there was also an elevator. I really am not sure where the negative reviews come from - perhaps those people went in with an attitude and hence received attitude back...? While I've always been a fan of Burberry trench coats, I have a feeling that I'm going to be spending a lot more time in this store soon because their baby clothes are beyond adorable. On my most recent trip to Burberry I skipped the baby clothes to look at their diaper bags instead. Unfortunately, they didn't have any diaper bags in stock (sad), but a lovely sales associate by the name of Alexandra (dressed in an adorable Burberry blazer) took the time to walk us thru a few options online. And they have some pretty nice options. They are a bit pricey, but not quite as expensive as the Gucci diaper bags I was looking at it...and they are larger as well so I'll be able to throw in some extra toys, diapers and whatever else babies need. Even though we didn't actually get to see a bag in the store we left satisfied with their top notch service. We were greeted promptly upon entering and directed to the appropriate floor when I mentioned what I was looking for. Upon reaching the floor, Lana was very helpful, asking questions to find out what would be most suitable and then pulling some options for me to try on. From a strictly shopping experience, it was great. I didn't have to do any work or paw through the racks searching for an item. It was almost everything a luxury experience should be. 4 stars out of 5 because we weren't offered any refreshments. It was a chilly, rainy evening in Chicago and some espresso or coffee would have been nice. I've been to lower tier shops and also randomly browsed similarly situated shops where anything from bottled water to champagne is offered. After my first visit here, actually purchasing items, I can attest that this store is what shopping dreams are made of. The customer service is second to none (Vanessa, who helped me, is awesome) and the selection is displayed very enticingly--it is easy to get hooked into buying one of everything. I was primarily looking for accessories on this visit. I found what I came for, and then some. Vanessa was super helpful when it came to helping me pick out shoes for a dress that I had already bought from Reiss, in London. The coup of the shopping visit was when I tried on one of the Christopher Bailey-designed trenches. It is not your run-of-the mill black or tan belted coat and it looked like perfection right off the rack. I knew I would be kicking myself if I didn't buy it and I was told it can even do double duty as a dress. Rarely do I enthuse so much over a utilitarian clothing item, but I am truly looking forward to stepping out in this for the fall--it will elevate even my stalwart basics, and make my skinny jeans and ts appear more deliberate in their styling. On 30 April 2022 at around 4:25pm, I walked into this Michigan Avenue store looking for a winter coat after a couple of rounds on Michigan avenue and State street trying to look for something stylish in particular, all to no avail. I sometimes prefer shopping for winter products especially around this time since they are most likely marked down, you know what I mean, like last call; however pray you find the right size. Now, it was my turn to enter the store after being in this unnecessary queue. This guy walks right to me asking me "what are you looking for ?", normally with regular customer service you present yourself "my name is this .....how can I help you ?" , Make you feel welcome and not pressured. None of that, and he just walked right to me what are you looking for insisting that he walks me around the store. OK now I briefly respond to him saying if he could show me the men's floor since I like to browse myself to see if anything catches my eye. I prefer shopping that way since I was looking for a specific long winter coat that is preferably stylish. He proceeds to get on the elevator with me to the main floor. On the floor I browse entire floor didn't find anything that I like although there were some trench coats, which I didn't need. As soon as I get back into the elevator on my way out of the store, the same employee steps into the elevator literally following every step of my move, which made me very uncomfortable and offended at the same time. I asked him why he was following me, and he said I'm your personal consultant and doing my job, that's what we do here in the store. Then I said I didn't ask for a personal consultant, let alone someone following me everywhere like he was doing the entire time on the floor and now in the elevator. He said if your intentions is not to shop or you are up to something, then you have nothing to worry about. Now this a guy who was on the phone the entire time while he was following me and watching me at the same time, and now telling me that he was doing his job. So we get to the ground, at this point I was done looking everywhere and I was on my way home, very upset. I said to him, your customer service sucks and you have no business following me around. He said get out of the store now and go to Walmart or Sears, they might have what you need and he didn't even know what I was looking for in the first place. I'm literally on my way out of the store, then he called security and asked security to walk me off the store. Now, it's pretty obvious to everyone including the security that I was already walking out of the store while he was following me. My question to Burberry Michigan Avenue management is that are you supposed to follow customers around the store and especially make it obvious. This is very unprofessional and against the law. By the way I am aware how you choose a certain race of people to follow them around the store without them giving you any reason to. I'm also aware how you cater to your favorite customer base, asians and Caucasians because they spend a lot of money and you wouldn't want to jeopardize your relationship which could potentially result in the company loosing a lot of money. My people please please please again spend your money where you are respected and treated decently and in a professional manner like everyone else, don't waste your money at places like Burberry and the likes who continue to disregard common decency and respect. In situations like these you don't give them your money for some trash that you can find cheaper at places like banana republic and Zara or better yet Gucci. These stores provide excellent customer service and trust me they will not follow you around and make you feel very uncomfortable and give you the impression that you about to steal something I have worked with some of the finest retail in the past and never ever experienced this unprofessional and rude behavior. In the past, Burberry used to be welcoming and professional and the staff treated everyone with respect. Now I don't even know what the store is about. It's very terrible, believe me, and they are proud of it. I will never ever in this life time spend money there and I will tell all my friends and people I know. Burberry is the maker of the original trenchcoat, so if that is the style you like guys--check this place out. Classic styles with some modern fashion lines, too. Bring your high-limit credit card, however. Clothing of this quality is NOT cheap. A classic trenchcoat runs around $1,600 and they are never on sale. After you pay that amount, they will alter it for you for free, however. Tina Marie was fantastic and she knew the Burberry history by memory. The in-house tailor there was also great. I have a number of awesome Burberry items that I get killer compliments on. I also bought these items at crazy discounted prices (thank you Nordstrom and Saks). Anyways, I thought I might treat myself to something that was a little more in the now and not from a season or two ago. I also figured it was about time I visited the mothership. I walked in one weekend and there was a line of staff waiting to greet everyone who entered. As people walked in, they were matched with the first person waiting in the staff line. A personal shopper? Score! Well, when my friend and I walked in, the next two staff in line looked us up and down and ignored us. What, really? She's a pharmacist and I do pretty well myself. We were dressed nicely and I was even wearing makeup for a change, but guess that wasn't enough. Pretty much soured us on shopping there. If I decide to give this place another shot, I'll pin my W-2 to my sleeve. read more

We went in to tailor a Burberry coat, and the service received by one of the sales employees was unbelievably disgusting. My husband and I got the pleasure (sarcasm inserted) of dealing with Zachary, and what an experience that was! He went from ignoring us in the beginning, to charging us double for the alteration service, only to be corrected by the seamstress (they almost argued) telling him that those prices were way off and should be corrected. He made a big deal about it, but finally corrected it. The tailor even mentioned that he didn't understand why he was acting this way. Then, he made a big deal about when we would get it back... Also, he made rude, commanding requests to my husband to sit (more than once) while waiting. Why? Control freak! Hubby paid no mind to him, and told him respectfully, that he was fine and did not sit down. It was a disaster, Zachary was on a power trip, that's all. Note to management: I'm sure you don't want someone who treats paying customers representing your store this way. The tailor/seamstress was very professional and friendly, this review has nothing to do with him. We love the store and their products, too. But stay away from Zachary... He's the poster child for the rude sales rep at high end stores, that treats customers like he's above the creme de la creme, and who I'm sure can't afford the product he's selling! A few months ago, I purchased a handbag from the Burberry store. Of course everyone there is snobby--that is part of what they sell. I was more concerned by the lack of service I received upon returning last month to discuss a manufacturing flaw in the bag that I had carried only a handful of times. Before going into the store, I contacted Burberry customer service via email to see what advice they had to offer. I explained the issue to them (air pockets/bubbles forming under the outer canvas layer of the bag) and they agreed that it was most certainly a manufacturing flaw. They instructed me to go to the store where I purchased it, with or without receipt, and they would be able to replace it or send it out for repairs should they not have the same bag available. So I went to the store, receipt and printed email from Customer Service in hand, and was told that there was absolutely nothing that they could do for me. When I asked if other customers had experienced the same issue, I was told that they had never seen these bubbles form on a handbag until that very moment. Clearly I had mistreated the bag. I explained that I wasn't looking for a refund--either a replacement or an option for repair (though I didn't think that this is really repairable). I was told by three different people at the store that I would have to contact Burberry Customer Service for repair options, but that it would probably cost me a fortune. I showed each of them the email stating that the store would be able to help me, and all I got were shrugged shoulders. Interestingly enough, after the debacle at the Burberry store, I went to Bloomingdale's for something else and decided to swing by their Burberry counter. There, I was told by the manager that they'd had at least ten returns recently for that same manufacturing defect, and that Bloomingdale's was offering replacements or a full refund with receipt, as long as the bag was purchased within the past six months. Interesting that a branded store will not stand by their product, but a department store that just happens to carry that particular brand will. If I ever purchase another Burberry item again (which is highly unlikely), it will certainly be from Bloomingdale's. read more

I'm teetering between a 1 star and a 5 star for the somewhat original, but incredibly rude, insults they doled out to my shopping partner (e.g. "You could try H&M."). What is this? Mean Girls? So I'll give this Burberry store a 2. I have to say, though, insulting your customers, no matter how arrogant, is not a good sales tactic. At all. You work here. We spend here. Your job is to get us to spend more. Very simple. The only time the staff has been accommodating was when I came with my parents. This particular store won't respect you until you look at least 30. Below mediocre experience here. I already forgot the lady's name who helped me, but she did not seem knowledgeable on where things were located and how to do things. Albeit, she was nice about everything. She greeted me and I told her I was looking for a bag and showed her a picture. She directed me to the bag and I told her I was interested in seeing another style to compare the two. She did not know where the bag was located so I dismissed looking at the other bag. When I decided to purchase, she took quite a while to package my bag and when I walked out the door, the security alarm went off. They inspected the bag again and she apologized saying she wasn't sure what the issue was. I asked if the alarm would go off at other stores, and the sales staff said yes but didn't do anything about it. When I got home, I inspected the bag and it turns out they left a security tag in the side pockets. It was easy to remove, but the lack of detail she possessed and the fact that she didn't do anything to alleviate the situation (just sent me on my way) was very unprofessional. For a supposedly high-tier product and company, their service leaves a lot to be desired. However, my wife's experience with the store could have simpy been due to an employee having an off-day or maybe just not being a particularly great employee. I really don't know. Still, we were very disappointed at her experience at the Chicago Burberry and sent the following email to their corporate office over two weeks ago. We received a generic reply promising a response. And then, nothing. So in addition to our disappointment with Burberry resulting from the experience at the Chicago location, it now appears that this may simply be an extension of corporate culture that starts at the top. Duly noted. ------------------------ Good afternoon, On 3/14/2016 I purchased an "Effotless Blendable Kohl" from the Burberry location in downtown Chicago (store number 4003). When I returned home, I observed that the associate had given me a different product. She had, intsead, sold me an "Effortless Kohl Eyeliner". I was forced to make a return trip to downtown Chicago. This is an inconvenience for me, but I understood that mistakes do happen, and in any case, I was participating in a nursing research sympsium downtown. When I went to the store, the associate was unable to assist me. She was trying very hard to be helpful, but she was not assigned to makeup and was therefore unfamiliar with the products. At the end, I realized I would need to make yet another trip to Burberry in order to complete the exchange. I was also late for my symposium as a result. I returned today, 3/27/2016 and found the original associate. She was apologetic, but instead of acknowledging her mistake, she insisted that I had, in fact, wanted the eyeliner. This was not the case -- in fact, we had never even tried that product (or in fact, any eyeliner at all) when I was in the store with her originally. On top of that, I was charged an additional (admittedly marginal) amount for the exchange. While at not time did anybody behave unpleasantly towards me, I was disappointed at my experience with what I have always believed to be a superior company and product. Thank you.
