On April the 30th, 2022, at around 4:25pm, I walked into this Michigan avenue store looking for a winter coat after a couple of rounds trying to look for something stylish in particular. i sometimes prefer shopping for winter products especially around this time, since they are likely marked down (last call); however, pray you find the right size. Now when it was my turn to enter the store after being in this unnecessary queue, this guy walked right to me asking me "what are you looking for" ok, I briefly responded to him saying if he could show me the mens floor, and I like to browse myself to see if anything catches my eye. ( I prefer shopping that way since I was looking for a specific long winter coat that is preferably stylish). He proceeds to get on the elevator with me to the mens floor, I browse the entire floor, didn't find anything that i liked, although there were some trench coats available, didn't need those. As soon as I get back into the elevator, on my way out of the store, this same employee steps right in the elevator literally following every step of my move, which mad me very uncomfortable and offended art the same time. Now, I asked home why he was following me, and he said " i am your personal consultant, and doing my job, this is what we do here in this store" then I said I didn't ask for a personal consultant, let alone someone following me everywhere like he was doing the entire time on the floor, and now in the elevator. He said " if your intention is not to shop or you are up to something, then you have nothing to worry about". Now this is a guy who was on his phone the entire time while he was following me around, and telling me that he was doing his job. We get to the ground floor, and at this point I was upset. I said your customer service sucks, and you have no business following me around. He said " get out of the store And go to Walmart or Sears, they might have what you need", he didn't even know what I was looking for. I am literally on my way out of the store, then he calls security and asks security to walk me out. Well it was obvious to everyone including the security that I was already walking out of the store while he still was following me. My question to Burberry Michigan avenue management is, are you supposed to follow customers around the store, and especially make it obvious? This is very unprofessional and against the law. I am aware how you choose a certain race of people to follow them around the store without them giving you any reason to. I am also aware how you cater to your favorite customer base. (Asians and Caucasians) because they spend a lot of money and you wouldn't want to jeopardize that relationship, which could potentially result in lhurting the company. My people, please, please, and please again, spend your money where you are respected and treated decently in a professional manner like everyone else. Don't waste your money at places like Burberry and the like who continue to disregard common decency and respect. Situations like these, you don't give them your money for some stupid thrash that you can find cheaper at places like Banana Republic and Zara or better yet, Gucci (excellent customer service and not being followed around like you just gave them the impression that you are about to steal something) I have had the opportunity to work some of the finest retail in the past, and never have I experienced this unprofessional and rude behavior. In the past, Burberry used to be welcoming, professional, and the staff treated everyone with respect. Now, I don't even know what the store is about. It is very terrible, believe me, and they are proud of it. I will never, ever in this life time spend my money there, and I will tell all my friends and people I know. I mean, it's Burberry. They're going to be snobby, expect their customers to spend a lot of money and the clothing is not going to be cheap. I don't normally ignore customer service in my reviews but come on people - some places are going to be high quality product and have all the pomp an circumstance with the permanent 'bitch face' employees who think they're the shit because they work at burberry. Once you get over that, you can realize that every product that comes through that store is the highest quality, great selection - one of the few burberry stores that actually has a runway collection - and the store's architecture is rather beautiful and unique. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would! I am a big Burberry fan and have invested in purchasing a scarf, trenchcoat, and purses but, I can guarantee you I will never again purchase anything from this store. When you shop at Burberry, you pay a premium for quality and customer service. This place has horrible customer service. I bought a trenchcoat about 1 year ago from the Oakbrook Burberry and wanted the sleeves hemmed. I had been pretty indecisive about getting the sleeves hemmed because I wasn't sure if wearing a heavier sweater underneath the coat would move the sleeves up. In the end, I decided to hem it. I brought my coat into the Burberry store and was greeted nicely. However, when the tailor came over to introduce herself she was completely disrespectful. She looked me up and down, barely shook my hand and then looked over at my coat and asked if it was even a burberry jacket. I will admit I was a bit disheveled looking because I had just gotten off of a plane but I had been travelling for work. She then proceeded to check my coat for the authentic Burberry tags and realized it was an authentic coat. She then had a side conversation with the sales woman that I could not hear and then told me she would measure me for the sleeves. I asked her point blank what was wrong and she said nothing. She proceeded to measure me and she said the sleeves weren't too long and they would hike up if I wore a thicker sweater and I said I've tired it for a year but I still think they're too long. After the measurement, the sales woman came up to me and told me they will charge me for hemming the sleeves because it is beyond 6 months since I purchased the coat. I was fine with that. Then she proceeds to tell me that I first need to have my coat dry cleaned before they will do any tailoring work on the coat and that it is a law in Chicago. My coat had no stains on it and was not at all dirty. It was merely wrinkled as I had been travelling and wearing my coat. I don't know if it is the law in Chicago but, I've never had another tailor tell me that. She gave me her card but, I told her I won't not be coming back. I took my coat and left. I will never purchase another Burberry item from this store again. The least employees of the store can do is be respectful to shoppers. read more

Growing tired of my umbrellas turning inside out as soon as I step onto Michigan Ave, I decided to invest (and indulge), in a strong, but cute, Burberry umbrella. Ouch, it's pricey in there but it's been raining all year long, I feel like I live in the Northwest part of the country x10. The umbrella, in my opinion, was overpriced, but every time it rains, I adore pulling that baby out. My transaction was pretty painless on the people that work there. From window shopping, I knew exactly what I wanted, just had to find my prize and pay for the thing. I did have to get someones attention and they acted pretty indifferent that I was in there. I would think in this damn recession, they'd just be happy someone was buying something over $200! So, don't go there expecting great service. I have purchased a watch and trench coat from Burberry and feel at just home when I'm at this store. Recently I had an unfortunate tear in the trench coat a month after purchase. It caused me quite a stir. My dry-cleaner charged me for the repair that ended up making the damage worse. I immediately brought it to Burberry worried, and was told to wait one week by a polite group of staff. They assured me everything would be fixed. After one week, I was called by repairs announce it was finished. When I picked the jacket up, I was treated very well, and most importantly the damage was fully repaired. There's a reason I shop at Burberry often; it's the customer service and promise that the name carries. read more

Well, I didn't actually have any shopping experience with this store. I do shopping from their official website, cause I am lazy. The five stars I gave is for the tailors and their alteration services, which I have used couple times. The tailors there are very professional, and they don't care how much work they need to put to alter your garment. They picked the most complicated solution without you naming it. The only thing they care is to make you look good, and meet their own standards, which is quite high. This is why I like high-end brands. They have standards in almost every aspects, and they deliver it. The service is easy, and if your purchase is in full price, free of charge. I love Burberry and I specifically love this store. I walked in a year and a half ago looking for a nice upscale polo to wear and got helped out by Eric. Despite my young age, Eric took the time to help me find my perfect shirt, answer all my questions, and explained all the different Burberry lines to me. Now, thousands of dollars I don't want to admit later spent on everything form Brit to Porsum, I still buy from Eric each and every single time. I moved away from Chicago 8 months ago and despite having a Burberry store and an outlet 20 minutes away, I still wait until work brings me back to Chicago to visit this store. The size and selection of the Chicago store is amazing, and most importantly, it has Eric. He always has the most spot on recommendations whether it's a briefcase, shoes, clothes for me, or gifts for family during the holidays. I got my mother a scarf for Christmas and her first comment was "Eric picked out my favorite one!". After a few seconds of shock that she gave him the credit for the gift I had bought, I realized she was absolutely right. I never would have known what to get but he nails it each and every single time. If you're looking to treat someone or yourself, you can't go wrong with Burberry and make sure you ask for Eric! What a gorgeous store! I'm told it's one of the largest in the world and the exterior and the lucite staircase are both eye candy for the architecturally inclined. Was here over the Christmas holiday and bought a winter coat. The tailor was impeccable and the salesperson had an eye for both design and for what looks good on who (He actually chose the coat I ended up buying and was attuned both to what would look good on me as well as what I was saying (i.e. No black, which is hard to do at Burberry/with a winter coat in general)). He also had a great sense of humor and made us feel at home (particularly when it became clear we would actually be purchasing something and were not just playing dress up). My only gripe was that the fitting room was a furnace (not cool (pun intended) when you are trying on wool/cashmere coats that are hot to begin with) and that it took some time for our salesperson to get the coats I wanted to see in my size from the basement storeroom). While I understand that 1 coat is probably a "chump change" sale at Burberry, it's still a fairly hefty sum for the average person like myself to drop. read more

I found myself at Burberry over the holidays, and the experience...wasn't great. I went to the store to buy a coat for my husband. I knew what I wanted, but had some concerns about his measurements (he's super tall), so wanted to discuss sizing with an associate. I got to the store, and the security officer on the main level directed me to men's outerwear. (He was the most helpful person I spoke with on my initial visit.) I went upstairs, and despite being the only person on the fifth floor, the associate standing around was too busy messing around on his phone to help me. After I walked over and started pulling coats off the rack, he materialized and offered to assist. I shared with him some of my concerns about size-- predominately, the coat I wanted maxed out at a 48 (the size my husband wears), and I wanted to be sure he'd be able to wear it over other dress clothes. He's also nearly 7 feet tall, and has a 40" sleeve length. The associate told me it would fit fine, no problem, and although I sort felt like he just wanted to make a sale, I decided to give it a go. (I figured I could always return it if it didn't work out.) They didn't have the size I wanted in stock, so he offered to order it online and have it sent to me. Ok. He pulled up the website on his phone, and said-- it's basically just an online order now, so you can do it yourself. And then I proceeded to stand there and tap out my entire order on his tiny phone. Not the end of the world, but when I'm spending that kind of money on a coat...don't make me stand there and do the job myself. I could have stayed home and ordered it online. So the coat comes, and no surprise...it doesn't remotely fit. It looks like a 3/4 sleeve coat on my giant man. So I take it back. The woman who handled our return was super lovely, and she even spent a few minutes trying to find a coat style that might fit better. No luck, but she did go out of her way to try and make it work. And when it didn't, she processed our return efficiently. While we were waiting, we stood and looked at the kids clothes, because they're cute. Another associate smelled blood, and tried to sell me some toddler jeans. I told her they were adorable, but there's no way I'm spending $110 on jeans for a toddler...because they're a toddler. I was friendly about it, but she was clearly aghast. She got snippy, remarked that toddler denim is an "investment," and turned on her heel and walked off. The words "toddler," "denim," and "investment" don't ever belong in the same sentence. And if you are going to take the position that $110 baby denim is anything more than a luxurious extravagance...don't be rude about it. Final tip: This place doesn't do custom outerwear. If you find yourself in the same boat, Zegna is next door, and their customer service is great. read more

I went shopping with my gbff (gay best friend forever), we decided to go in because we both needed wallets. Upon the entrance I was greeted with judgemental eyes. I could feel this lady eye raping my non designer clothes. I kind of ignored it for a while, until she started following us through the entire first floor. As soon as I went to exam some scarves, she felt the need to give me the price...I understand what customer service is, but being rude by telling me something I did not ask is unacceptable. There was a ray of sunshine upstairs. He was a tall man who was incredibly helpful and intelligent, also told us he used to manage the H&M store for 5 years. As far as the merchandise goes, you either love the whole Burberry checkers thing or you don't. I personally love Burberry trench coats, so when I passed by this location on my way to eat some cupcakes with a friend, I decided to drop in real quick and try some on. The interior is gorgeous. Large windows, lucite everything, polished stone everything else. There's a good chance that this is what the Kardashian sisters' closets look like, so take it alllll in. All of the staff here are dressed in suits, which is a really nice touch. I tried on a couple of trench coats; it took our salesperson a while to find a trenchcoat in my size from the storeroom, but she was helpful and apparently they tailor anything you buy afterwards. Since I was sort of on a schedule, I didn't try on very many coats (just enough to have an idea of how they looked), and didn't want to buy anything on an impromptu drop-in, but I'm definitely going to come back and try/buy a double-breasted trench since I only tried on single-breasted and boy those don't look all that good lemme tell ya. My only complaint is that there isn't much on the floor in terms of size variety. I can imagine how frustrating it'd be to have to wait for your salesperson to go to the storeroom every time you want to try something on. read more

But really, it's just a high end store in a cool building with lots of overpriced, but beautiful garments and accessories. Burberry made a strong entrance on the Magnificent Mile with its entirely renovated store. The building is one of Burberry's new standard designs for flagship stores, following the Beijing store which opened in June, 2011. The iconic British luxury brand kicked off the holidays in outstanding style with its glamorous opening party which was a celebration of fine taste. I love elevating myself up the stairs while looking over the bustling streets below through the large windows, although the elevator might be a comfortable option for some. I also love how Burberry's physical world merges with its digital presence on the big screens so that clients with rich imagination like me can choose any dress from their Autumn/Winter 2012 show and bring it to life. Their sales associates are superb. I love their Christmas decoration too. It was number one on the Gold Coast. Oh, and the green rooftop. And the plaid inspired façade... read more

The brand new store is beautiful and has a large selection. The sales person Andreas I worked with was great and extremely helpful. Unfortunately for me, they didn't have my exact size pants, so the ones I purchased would need to be shorten slightly. They have tailoring on-site but for some reason it takes them two weeks to return the item, even for something as quick and basic as hemming a pair of pants. I was leaving for a business trip two days later, so I explained the situation and they said they could do it but would have to charge a rush fee of $40 for the alteration. Andreas talked to a manager but they were unwilling to accommodate getting the pants back to me in a couple days without an up charge. The added cost wasn't really the issue but its just not the kind of service you'd expect to receive form a company like Burberry. I bought a suit at the Hugo Boss store the same day across the street and they took care of all the alterations immediately even though it was outside of their normal process and at no additional cost once they found out I was in a hurry to get the suit back for an upcoming trip. From experience, Nordstrom, Saks, Neimans would have all gone out of their way to accommodate getting my purchase back to me within a reasonable time frame, and all have pretty nice Burberry selections. While I still like the product, The Burberry Store experience just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll be making my next Burberry purchase from one of the companies mentioned above who care about their paying customers and the entire customer experience. read more

We touched a $42,000 coat with our greasy, poor people fingers! Well it wasn't that bad :D Me and my husband decided to do some window shopping on the mag mile and ended up in Burberry's, and we've never felt so poor. The store is breathtakingly beautiful, inside and out, so 1 star for that. We roamed the first floor and were immediately approached by a sales person. You could see it in their eyes when they know you aren't buying anything. 1 star for them faking the funk, cause personally I wouldn't want to deal with it. So we were thumbing though the coats, pulling out the tabs to see the price (I'm not sure if they do that for the whole "if you have to ask you can't afford it" or shock value alone. One coat $2,300, another $6000 which tickled us terribly but Lord the next one killed us, and the sales person looked shock his self. A $42,000 Liberace style coat! Fur, beads, and all! And the sales person looked at us like our hands were covered in barbecue sauce and cheeto dust! Some would be offended, but I don't think I've ever laughed internally that hard in my life! I struggled to keep a straight face and act unfazed while the sales person that gave us a stare that burned through our souls. One of our favorite memories. And we continued on... The same theme continued throughout the store tour. Sales people were dry but nice, hidden tags as far as the eyes could see or couldn't see I guess, and though it was kinda intimidating, it was an ok experience. SUMMARY: Took over a month to complete alterations they said would be done in a week. Poor service. As others stated, sales people were real @$$holes. THE DIRTY DETAILS (longish): In early November I came in to exchange a gift, a nice shirt. Was pretty much ignored by floor staff. Guess I didn't look like "a Burberry Customer". Got an in store credit and set out to find something more my style. Couldn't find anything on the men's floor so set out for the floor with men's dress shirts. Found some shirts I liked and asked the salesman about them. "Oh... those shirts are meant to be worn with ties. You should go downstairs and look at the shirts there." :-o :-o So I picked up a shirt to try on. Wasn't the right color, but I asked to see the ones higher on the shelf that must be reached with a ladder. Again, I was reminded that these were shirts meant to be worn with a suit. Listen here @$$hole.... If I want to wear a nice button down shirt WITHOUT A TIE or sports jacket, THAT'S MY BUSINESS! Eventually, when he saw I had +$300 a store credit, he got me the shirt I'd asked for and led me to the changing room. The shirt would need to be altered and so a tailor was brought in. They took down my email address and phone number saying that I'd be emailed or called once it was ready. Would take about a week. A week goes by and no email or call. I had kinda forgotten about it after two weeks. Before Thanksgiving, I called the store and got an answering machine. Left a message with my phone number and email address asking for an update. NEVER HEARD A SINGLE THING... Called again another day... got patched to the store.... NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE!! Now in December, I called a third time. Got an answering service. Guy with British accent was nice, but I was on hold for 4 minutes while he called the store.... NO ONE ANSWERED HIM EITHER!! He said they were "too busy to talk to me."... TOO BUSY??? This is when I told him, "I'm busy too and I'm having to waste MY time to get a shirt they'd been paid for already. I don't care how busy they are, get someone on the phone.". The guy tried again but when no one answered, he took my message saying he'd send it to the manager of the store. Two days later, I get the following email: ================================ "Hello Mr. Greer, I am writing to confirm that your alteration is complete and ready to be picked up at the Burberry Chicago store. Thank you and have a great evening. Kind Regards, John Achtmann --------------------- Department Manager-Service Burberry 633 N. Michigan Avenue Chicago, IL 60611" =============================== Yeah... that's it. No apology. No 'we value your custom'. Nothing. I wrote back with the following and have heard NOTHING!! "Why did it take so long and why did no one try to contact me to either tell me it was done or apologize for such a long delay? I find this level of service particularly uncharacteristic of a company such as Burberry." Lesson learned.... stick with Nordstrom. read more

So I went in with my boyfriend right at closing which was accidental, they hadn't updated their website with their new hours but the girls that helped me were so nice. It was winter and freezing & my jacket wasn't cutting it. I had found a coat I liked online, they got me that one and probably 4-5 others to try on. My boyfriend wandered upstairs to look for a few minutes while I narrowed it down, even though they were closing they still got us water & were super sweet. I narrowed it down to two coats found him so he could decide. They packed up my jacket & I wore the new one out. I've bought two trenches from them (something you tell yourself you will wear for a lifetime) and have had the lining rip severely in both of them. When I took the latest coat I bought back to the store, I got so much attitude from the clerks. Asked for the manager, she was even worse! I will never buy another Burberry product. I truly question why anyone would be loyal to a brand that has terrible quality and even WORSE customer service. Unless, of course, you are one of those people that simply must wear labels. The sales woman was extremely helpful in finding me the right trench coat. It was a wonderful experience! She even sent a follow-up email later that week. Then, 12 days later a button popped off my brand new Burberry trench coat. I couldn't believe it. Since it was a gift from my husband, he offered to take care of it for me. He went to the store one week later (so I'd owned the coat for not quite three weeks) to have it replaced. They refused and said instead that their tailors would fix it. I picked it up several days later and the button was scratched and you could see the repairs. I asked to speak with a Manager, which was met with a cool (at best) response so I left the store before the entire experience and gesture from my husband was ruined. In addition 5 Burberry coats / jackets, scarfs and several purses, my wife bought an umbrella, the one that folds about 8 inches when folded; most at the Chicago Burberry Store. The umbrella remained in a pocket in the car door. Rarely used about but after the third or fourth use it fell apart. Tried to get it repaired or exchanged today. No repair and for a $150 umbrella we were offered a $49.95 gift card. My wife told the manager whose discretion it was to decide to politely shove his gift card. No more Burberry for her. After telling her no.. she continued to follow us around the first floor and could feel her eyes from behind watching us. After walking towards the stairs to see what else the store had to offer we were approached by her asking where we were going. I told her we were going to look upstairs and she asked why we were going or if there was something in particular we were looking for. I told her we wanted to browse the store and she asked what I was looking for. She basically asked us to leave the store without saying the words. I left immediately after this uncomfortable encounter. Absolutely terrible way to treat consumers in your store. So unbelievably shocked that my mother and I were chased out of a store when we were the only ones in there. I doubt there's anything I could say about Burberry that hasn't already been said. If you like their style you won't be disappointed. I'm leaving this review and removing a star due to the alarmingly high sales tax on Michigan Ave. This appears to be something locals or people who've been to Chicago before are well aware of but it left me quite surprised to see a nearly $100 addition to my already very high bill (I bought a bag.) However, my purchase is everything I had hoped and I'm choosing to view it as a beautiful souvenir from a wonderful vacation so all's well that ends well.
