I've been coming to Syd Jerome's for 20 years. This store makes you feel special and important. From the owner on down, you are greeted with a handshake and smile. The quality and selection has always been a step above most men's clothing stores in Chicago. But what really sets them apart is the service. Willie has been my guy for years, but everyone will help. He gets to know you and your style. Which helps a lot. We can joke and generally have a good time. I never feel rushed, even when the store is crowded. Recently I ran a 100 mile Ultra-Marathon and brought my buckle into the store. Sid took a look at it and immediately started calling around for a belt company. He found one in Louisiana, and even though I was a little worried about it getting lost....Sid assured me it would be ok. He shipped my buckle out with insurance and I received it back a few weeks later and couldn't be more pleased. I really can't justify buying clothes anywhere else...this store is an experience well worth having. read more

I've been in this store and yes, from the window, everyone looks really great BUT when I went in to look for a blazer as a gift - I realized something - there are NO price tags on anything! Saw a pair of plain black socks with a price tag and eagerly grabbed it up - A PAIR OF SOCKS was $65. Please tell me - what sale could possible make a pair of socks worth more than $20+? Those socks better be waterproof and should last me a lifetime if I'm going to spend that much. so, unless you're ready to drop a couple bills, skip Syd Jerome even if there are sale signs in the window. read more

I had an excellent experience buying a suit here. I came in because it is just next to my office and I needed a suit; they were having a 1/2 sale, which was exactly what I needed. I got a suit that I love for a very reasonable price. I was helped by an employee named Willie and he was so helpful, attentive, and made my experience wonderful. Because of a "packing malfunction", I accidentally forgot a dress shirt on a recent busy work day. I paniced, by though to call Sid Jerome: "I forgot a shirt this morning and I need to be in a pressed-white dress shirt within the next 20 minutes." I showed up in a cab, and Mario already had 4 options laid out for me. I picked a nice Italian slim cut button down, tried it on (sort of) and gave it back to Mario. He had his tailors press it and I donned the shirt while he rang me up...From the ring of the door chime to signing of the receipt was exactly 22 minutes. I appreciate the speed and service that the store (especially Mario) delivered. I will be back to peruse the seemingly great selection of sport jackets and dress shirts when I have more than 20 minutes to spare. Great service! read more

I stopped in to look for a jacket while visiting Chicago on a work trip and ended up purchasing a Peter Millar vest. Within one use, the zipper at the bottom broke, making it essentially useless. I reached out to Peter Millar customer service and they suggested talking to Syd Jerome first (and to reach back out if they're unhelpful) and provided me their customer service email. Syd Jerome did not resolve the matter - in fact, they didn't even respond to my emails (except for the note forwarded from Peter Millar customer service). They ignored my request for a shipping label and my follow up email to that. After one month of silence from Syd Jerome, I informed Peter Millar customer service that no resolution was reached - thankfully, the representative at Peter Millar was responsive, friendly and ultimately willing to step in to make matters right since Syd Jerome would not do so. I used to live in Chicago and work in the loop for years - I would walk past this store daily but never stopped inside. Needless to say, I will not be returning or recommending this store to anyone. On a recent business trip to Chicago, I finally ventured into Syd Jerome's Men's Wear. I've passed the store a hundred times and their finely dress mannequins always catch my eye. I felt very uncomfortable at this store. The employees followed me around like I was a thief. Perhaps, it was due to the Detroit Tiger's track jacket and jeans I was donning that day for comfort purposes while travelling. Regardless, I felt they judged me as soon as I walked in the door. Syd Jerome is where you go if you want to feel like a boss. Gary Palay in particular treats me like a great friend when I shop there. They always have trendy and classic men's wear. Gary listens carefully to what I am looking for, and has gotten to know my personality / style. He always comes out with plenty of options to choose from, and never pressures me into anything. I know I can be candid with Gary. I live in NYC now, but I always make it a point to return to Syd when I am back in town. They are true class acts there. read more

I don't trust these guys, 1st they tried to force me into a 46L because they didn't have a 46R. They neglected to even tell me what they were trying to do. They just said their tailor will make it right. Shortening a jacket is never a desirable thing to do. Then he wanted to put cuffs on a tuxedo pants! Its apparently the Syd Jerome marketing stamp. I lost my scarf, my favorite scarf :( I got it two years ago as Christmas present. I searched everywhere for days!! I don't know how I lost it? How could I been so careless? Why? Where are you? I treated my scarf like that kid with his blanket 24/7 from Charlie Brown. I was soooooo bummed out. C'mon, everyone in downtown cover themselves head to toe especially during the winter; this is very fashionable place I have ever been to. Got to have a scarf around your neck right? I mean these things do really work. Once you start wearing it, you miss it so much when its gone especially during windy days we been having here lately. ------------------------------ Trust me on this one! I'm picky, I think of buying scarf like buying a tie. You have to really take your time matching your tie with your shirt. Don't expect to get compliments wearing bad looking tie with nice looking shirt. But if you are wearing a killer looking tie on a really bad wrinkled shirt? You can still pull this off and get away with it. Good looking tie can make or break your first impression so make sure you pick out a good one that match your shirt. Learned this from reading playboy when I was 16. I'm kidding... haha --------------------------------- I've walked by here many times, always looking at displayed mannequins see what's new and what kind of styles are out there. I try to pay attention when I'm shopping for clothes, even though I may not be buying now or at this particular store. I can always take some ideas back with me. I have to give these guys high remarks on displays. Seriously, they know what they are doing when it comes to men's style. I can't seem to find many stores geared towards Men's clothing around here so this one is pretty good. I have to be honest, I was bombarded by least 5-6 sales people who were eager to help and somewhat intimidating. But it was very pleasant experience, I got to try on 5-6 different colors and designs. I did pick out one that I liked but will keep an eye out for another color in case I lose this one. I didn't shop here for suits or blazers but they seem to have many selections so definitely do stop by here if you are looking for trendy menswear. Like I said, even if you are not buying, you can always take some ideas, go elsewhere to mix and match for better price. read more

I would have given this place 2 stars on the account of rogue representative 'Mario' (balding jerk) alone, but in all fairness I do feel this is a good suit store with alot of helpful, friendly salesmen (Billy, Patrick etc. not including baldy). They carry very good merchandise and their tailors are definitely some of the best. My current suit wardrobe consists mainly of Tom Ford's and Prada's (8 tailored suits from each designer), but I'm also quickly building up my Zegna collection (currently have 3). While I'll definitely venture to Syd Jerome again to get my next Zegna (they've got dirt cheap prices on Zegna's in my opinion), I'll make sure to schedule my next visit when Mario (aka rude prick) is not in! If you prefer working with one of the younger staff- ask for Billy/Juan. Billy also has much nicer hair than the cocky mid-life crisis 'Mario' and Billy's mannerism & professionalism is A++++ (he's also ALOT easier on the eyes than 'Mario' who resembles a sociopath- according to my g/f)....word! I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I enter Syd Jerome. Next to George Greene, It is easily my favorite men's clothing store in Chicago. The staff is very knowledgeable and really helped me find some great pieces to incorporate into my wardrobe., ("Tell me what you have and I'll tell you what you need" said the salesman.) Also, I cannot say enough about the exceptional tailors; and the selection is wonderful, although a bit inconsistent at times. I'm usually dressed well as I work in a boutique law firm in the Loop, however, I was there on my day off to wrap things up before going on vacation. Dressed in a tee shirt, gym shoes & sweat pants, I walked in Syd Jerome's to buy something nice to wear for a wedding & b/c I saw a huge 50% sale sign in their window. As soon as I waked in I get the stink eye from a a salesman who sizes me up solely on what I was wearing. He says "Can I help u with something?" in an irritating tone & look that immediately says you don't belong in here. I told him I was just browsing. 2 mins later he said "Is there something you're looking for?" Again, I said just browsing & he's walking uncomfortably close with me thru every section on the store. As I pick up shirts or ties to feel the fabric & place them back the way I found them, he picks them back up & rearranges it again as if I messed it up. As I browse sport coats with him literally on my tail. He again follows to perfectly space the hanging jackets I had just looked through. After a couple more mins of looking, I was approached by another salesman who said, "What are you looking for specifically?" I felt very uncomfortable at that point & just left. I found a very nice suit & shoes at Macy's & was not intimidated there like I was at Syd Jerome's. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this place as salesman are very intimidating. I would give it a half star or less if it was possible. read more

Had been looking around for a good coat for the winter late in the season and decided to go with a Canada Goose. Sold out everywhere except at Syd Jerome. I emailed the store and Juan emailed me back telling me they had the size and color I wanted. Wasn't sure if I would make it in time before close but when I went in the next day (Saturday) was greeted at the door asked for Jose and he instantly asked if I was Jose and here for the coat. Took me to the back section with the mirror. The coat was on hold with my name on it. He suggested I try on a size smaller than my normal size and as first I was hesitant because it was a bit tight. he went on about how the coat is made, the quality, the materials, ways to care and clean it. He let me try on the actual size I wanted and looked big on me and boxy. Told me going a size down looked slimmer and slicker. Also advised the goose feathers would mold to my body and will fit better as I wear it. also advised how coat should be snug on body to keep body heat in. The reason we get cold was the bigger the coat the more cold air will circulate. Juan was awesome and knowledgeable. Love the coat and very happy with the service. read more

Mario at Syd's is awesome. I have been buying clothing from him for a long time, he even presses the I buy so I can put them directly in my closet (and one in the office in case of spills!). The pricing is what you'd expect for a high end mens clothing store with designer brands, but the service is what sets them apart.
