I always receive the best customer service when shopping for myself or my family in Neiman's on Michigan Ave. Recently, I took my mother shopping for a new purse. I had the pleasure of working with Elmira.......she was so good to my mother as she tediously compared bag after bag. Elmira was wonderful with her. Mom finally settled on a great leather Prada bag and I paid for the purchase for her as a gift. She still talks about how much she enjoyed Elmira's expertise and lovely nature. I visited NM within the last few days, (In powerwalking clothes, after a two hour walk, no make-up and in really muggy weather...you get the pic) And was treated so kindly by Sharon in handbags (I had a few specific questions regarding a Judith Leiber bag) She then escorted me to Jennifer and Peter in David Yurman, to discuss a bracelet that needed work..who were equally helpful and sweet. In fact, I told my girlfriend that evening how helpful and nice everyone was that day. I went back the next day to follow up with them, and again...so friendly and helpful...I will go back to she Sharon, Jennifer and Peter!!! Shopped for a dress for my daughter's wedding, I"m not easy to please nor fit, had a firm budget number, and a definite set of 'rules'. Jimmy Korshak treated me with unbelievable kindness and understanding; answering emails and requests immediately, treated me like 'family', never showed me anything beyond my budget. What a great guy with amazing fashion sense. After a few 'not quite there' dresses, today we found the perfect dress; everything I wanted and more. Thank you Jimmy for your patience and caring. Love this store. Although I live downtown Chicago I don't often shop in Gold Coast because, well, I'm not made of money, and I do have an inferiority complex. But I bought a pair of shoes on sale from Neiman Marcus.com, and needed to return them as they didn't fit. So I marched into the store like I was born there and everyone was very nice and helpful. The shoes were taken back and my credit card credited without any problems. Although I couldn't afford to pay an average of $400 for each pair of shows displayed in the shoe department, I want to buy my stuff from Neiman Marcus just because I felt so good when going into the store. I really felt like the were glad I was there (and would happily take my money!), a feeling I don't get too often in big department stores anymore. read more

Amore Pacific, Creed cologne, I'll drive the hour to get them from Linda Ferrone rather than drive 5 minutes to Oak Brook, as Linda is the best!! Horrible, HORRIBLE service. My wife shops here weekly. She had a dress being altered and had me pick it up on the way home. The dress was a sale dress that she had bought at some sale but had just brought in. I asked the girl to get the dress for me and she seemed annoyed. As she was back there trying to find it I decided to take a gander and see if I could be a great husband and bring back something. Not one person was helpful- I think they though that because the dress I came in for was "only" $150 that I was worthless. Very snobby workers. Literally not one friendly person. Terrible customer service. I purchased a $700 handbag in December over a sale offering a gift card amount of $150 if you spent $600, or something like that. I waited until the promotion, purchased the purse, never received the gift card so called. They said it would take up to eight weeks. So I waited. Then I called again and they said my purchase didn't apply because the sale started a day later than when I made the purchase. I actually didn't even get to pick up the purse until after the sales started. After spending a lot of my time on a call with a "supervisor" who was unhelpful and said he would call me back, of course, I never heard back. Also, of course, they would tell me to wait eight weeks because now it is too late to return the purse. My receipt even says promo: GC (gift card). I told the "Supervisor" and said I would send him the receipt which he said he didn't want it. I will never shop at NM again. There are so many better stores, and I can order online. Which is sad because I have a NM credit card and work next door so it is convenient for me. Every person I spoke with was rude. If I were you I would shop elsewhere. read more

Yesterday I watched 3 associates sit in front of the shoe department instead of assisting me. One lady greeted me but didn't offer her assistance. I walked around the shoe department for 15 minutes, and finally one of them noticed and offered to help. Unlike the other 2 associates she was conversing with other guest. This review is for the "Precious Jewels Salon" only, and for one sales associate in particular, 'JOANNA GAMBLE.' She is far and away, the most outstanding salesperson I have ever encountered at any store, of any type, anywhere, PERIOD! Her knowledge is outstanding, but it is how she makes the experience for YOU, that makes her so wonderful! I have purchased several pieces from her so far, and the experience was better than I could have ever imagined it would be! She goes well above and beyond her duty as a salesperson to make sure that the experience is very special, and one that you will always remember. She is the epitome of class, and treats you with the utmost dignity and respect, whether you spend $1,000, or $100,000. The characteristic that I admire most about JoAnna; is she doesn't fall victim to the nonsense that seems to befall the rest of the Neiman Marcus staff. You will never find her engaged in idle chatter about each other, or any of the clients. And what I find most incorrigible about the other's in her department, is their lurid desire to want to 'help' you when JoAnna isn't available. Despicable! I typically like going here to pick up my odds and ends. Yesterday I went here to pickup my last present for my partner. I quickly was greeted by someone from when I worked in retail. It was such a pleasure to see her. I came in specifically looking for Dolce and Gabbana Intenso. Dominique politely walked me over to where I needed to go. I'm giving this review 1 star because of the service after Dominique helped me. I can't remember the older lady's name, but she was a complete, excuse my French, "Witch" I have never dealt with anyone like that in my life. I understand she's probably been there for numerous years. But her service was completely horrible. She went to the back to get the last fragrance for me. It was opened and looked a mess, like it was a return or something. Why would I want to give that as a gift to someone. I think not. I started to purchase it and then I asked her to wrap it for me and she was like it would be $7.50, I'm like okay. But her attitude was very ugly. I was like no you keep it. I walked away because I felt offended, like she was treating me like trash. Neimans please train your staff on customer service. Because there are other businesses willing to cater to there clients needs. read more

This is the most beautiful place to go and spend your money. I had some time to kill and decided to wander in being a"country mouse" from Memphis we do not have such fine shopping establishments. I was wearing a rather casual, comfortable travel outfit and carrying a longchamp camel hair bag - i.e. nothing I wore said "I shop here or have lots of money to shop here", yet it every department I wandered into I was treated with polite service and offeres to show me the goodies for sale, my questions never were answered with contempt or snoot. I was disappointed the bar was closed. Purchases wound up being a few trinkets I found in the gift / houseware area on the 4th floor- Karen was delightful. Chanel was out of stock on earring I was interested in but very nice non the less. I would much rather make a phone call with the lovley staff here than through a nameless, faceless website anytime for future purchases. read more

My experience here couldn't have been better. Beautiful store and very open floor plan. This review is for the fragrance department only, as this is why I came here. I was guided to try Tom Ford's signature line based on what I said I was looking for. As my sales rep, Jennifer, was asking the right questions based on my history and note preferences, she selected 2 fragrances that were exactly what I was looking for. I decided I was going to wear them around for the day to see how they reacted to my skin throughout the day. She was professional and didn't push the fragrance on me. She simply offered her business card and the invited me to text her if I was interested or had any questions. I came back to the store a few days later to buy the fragrance, and Jennifer wasn't there, so I opted to wait. Upon returning back home, I texted her, and the fragrance was shipped to my house the next week. Great experience. I like their approach, listening to the customer, and offering an excellent service, first, above making a sale. read more

There are some excellent salespeople at this store, but what in the world is going on with management and Customer Service? I placed an online order and inadvertently missed the return cutoff (30 days) by a couple of weeks. The woman at CS refused to take my return. Would. not. budge. She was super rude in her tone and demeanor, and staring at me with a smirk from behind her counter. OK, it's never been a problem before, can I speak to the manager? Rolls her eyes at me, sighs, fine. Manager comes out and is nicer but maintains the party line. Nope, we won't accept the return. I point out that I shop here a ton (I'm in their highest "In Circle" level) and it's never been an issue before - their generosity on returns is literally the MAIN reason I shop here, because I'm busy and can't always make it into the store within 30 days. Manager: "Sorry, there is nothing I can do." I point out that we could *try* to process the return and if the system won't accept it, ok, but I'm guessing it will accept it. Manager: "I'm not going to do that." So really, it's not that there is "nothing" you "can do," it's that you're not really interested in even trying anything to help me. Now I'm clear. Anyway, I get back to my office and call the customer service help line and guess what? I can do the return by mail, after all. NBD. So why in the world wouldn't the store associates just have helped me? Or explained that? Or called the number for me to get an override? Because they suck, that's why. Very disappointed in level of service. I went this past weekend with my husband hoping to exchange a Robert Graham shirt he got for Christmas and he needed a different size. When I approached the salesperson to ask where they had Robert Graham or similar shirts he simply muttered they didn't carry Robert Graham at this location. I asked where they carried it...Oakbrook, Old Orchard? He didn't know, didn't bother to find out and didn't have any suggestion for anything else to look at. So simply returned the shirt for Gift Card/Credit. Went home and found the shirt on line in the size we needed. Ordered it leaving an odd amount of $2.82 as a credit...I would have thought the salesperson would have offered to order for me and apply the credit and then just give me the small amount back in cash. Complete lack of service. I will stick to Nordstrom. read more

I have been going to Neiman since I got my first job. I still remember the day I bought my first Chanel bag and becoming a premiere customer at the shoe department. Now....those memories are being replaced by rudeness, stared downs, and unpleastant attitude from employees. Maybe its Chicago or maybe its the entire chain but I feel like costumer service is nonexistent in Chicago. I will never buy makeup again in Neiman, while trying to find a perfect shade, I was told by an associate that I was too dark for their cosmetics!! She didn't go there!!! What kind of bull is that.... While shopping for a new wallet I was ignored for 10 minutes by the sales person at the Chanel section and every time he showed me a new wallet he would point out the price and ask me if I could afford it?!? In my opinion and experience of Neiman Marcus, is that if you are from a different race and ethnicity you are not welcome or treated with respect. read more

This is specific to the Chicago store. I've never had this experience in any of their other stores. Something is seriously wrong with their sales associates. They need to learn to treat every person who walks in the door as a potential customer. Because they'd don't. I've invented a game. It's called "go to Neimans, get ignored- walk across the street to Saks or walk down a couple blocks to Nordstrom and spend money." I'm not kidding. About once a month I get the urge to hit Michigan avenue for retail therapy and the same thing happens every.single.time. Either associates are on their cell phone (Internet, texting, not talking) or they stare through you. It's my first year in Chicago- unfortunately this store has turned me off from shopping in Neimans at all. I'll spend my mine in stores where I'm treated like a valued customer. read more

Let's face it, it has all the best designer brands and we all refer to it, with the term of endearment, Needless Mark-up. We love to shop at this chain, but some stores can have a little bit of a snooty air. This store was the most fun I had had shopping in the past decade. The biggest hit was the fur department where Arhon Letsou schooled us on furs: how to choose them, how to care for them, and just about everything we needed to know about furs. I love furs. Neiman Marcus used to be the store I avoided for years . The service was god awful. I came back in about 4 years ago and all that had turned around. If you are hitting the contemporary dept you must have Jamie or Cassandra help you out. Great taste and super friendly. I would shoo with them anytime. Oh Neimans, all I wanted was a pair of panty hose and you sent me on a goose chase. I recently stopped into Neimans after work (its very close to my office) to get a pair of panty hose. I wandered around for 10 minutes trying to find the correct dept or a sign where department locations are listed. Neither were easily found. I counted 6, yes SIX, people who saw me wandering, looked at me, looked away, and started gabbing with coworkers. I was offered ZERO help. Finally, my journey ended on the top floor, BEHOLD - HOSIERY! As I was browsing through their tiny selection, a woman mumbled to me and asked if I needed help (7th time is a charm). I gave her the size, brands and colors that I regularly buy. Out of the 3 options I asked for, they didn't have ANY in stock. Apparently they don't restock mediums? So, if anyone is looking for hosiery, go to Bloomingdale's (much better selection and staff), I'm going to walk the extra blocks. read more
