Our Group makes an evening dinner trip of approximately 60 minutes 2 to 3 times a year. This is NOT Fast Food, they have a vast menu of Good Old Comfort food. The portions are usually large for by every other restaurant's standards. Every time we have been there, the owner has sat down with us. He feels that every person show be satisfied with their food. That the quality is the most importance , a family atmosphere is the 2nd , which includes his employees as well as patrons and the profit is lower on his list. Finally we checked out Ned's in Saint Augustine south. Wow! So to be clear, this is a diner style restaurant that is absolutely family and kid friendly. Quick take is great value, portion sizes are enormous, fresh made, fresh ingredients , kid friendly, allergy friendly! Now the long take. We ordered two adult dinners , two kids dinners, drinks, a local beer, and two full size apps and with tip it was less than $100. Good luck doing that at most places. Michelle was our server and she was so friendly and nice even though it was packed. We seated with five other tables all at once and she still killed it. Very organized and on top of that, the servers were helping each other which is a great sign. To top that off, the owner , yet the actual owner was coming around checking on tables and bussing tables and filling drinks. Like seriously, what? I'm not kidding. So it was busy but no wait. It's a smaller establishment with two dining sections, a short bar, and outdoor patio overlooking us 1. Some friendly felines out back if you want to gives some kitty head scratches. We ordered the nachos that are loaded to the brim with toppings . Chips were standard tortillas but the pulled pork was nice. You get a choice of four meats or without. Salsa was good too. We got the pot stickers with fruit salsa and plum sauce, just to try and we ate them so fast I forgot to take a pic. For dinner for the kids, they have literally everything. We have picky eaters and struggle to find options a local joints especially downtown. Neds has by far the best kids menu we have found. Check their website for their menu and the even keep their specials up to date on there! The girls loved, I mean loved the spaghetti. The chicken tenders are real, made in house chicken tenders. They are very thin and lightly breaded. They loved them. They have pretty good fries or other sides. Next time they want to try the Mac me cheese. My wife got the fried pork chops with a French onion style topping and vegetable tables with mashed pot. Very flavorful and well cooked. No greasy or over breaded. Very good flavor and two giant bone in chops. I ordered the country fried chicken and it was amazing. Breaded in house and fried perfectly. Gravy was tasty, no too salty! I love being able to add salt vs dealing with over salted food. I saw other folks getting burgers, Italians sausage bake, baked ziti, salads bigger than a tray, fried shrimp. I told Michelle when we got them menu that it was like going to Cheesecake Factory . They literally have every genre and impossible to choose from. They had prime rib specials , pot roast , Tex Mex, literally they have everything. We are now life long Neds fans. Great diner feel, perfect for us with kids, they even made sure to take caution with the peanut and tree nut allergy for my kid. Very good experience and we are glad to have this as a dining option. I've got to tell you something... this place is an original in a town where it's hard to stand out. And, Ned's does it with such care and quality that you're going to know right away, two steps inside, that you chose wisely. I take my Mom out to lunch regularly and she likes good eats. On our visit to Ned's she got the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, Sweet Potato Fries, and a Salad. It was lovely and she was over the moon. Still talks about it. I'm a simpleton and had already eaten, I played tennis that morning so I had a snack afterwards, but I didn't want to "be that guy" so I ordered with my Mom. Yeah, I got a Hot Dog and Fries. Queue the comments on grown men ordering like children. But, I added a chilled slice of Key Lime Pie that came as requested (with my dog).. So good and a great conversation with my Mom. The staff, the care that was taken with us as customers, was absolutely top notch! The menu would satisfy a wide range of diners so don't "key" on my hotdog take (it was unapologetically great though and just what I needed). If you're looking for some down home, and better than home-cook in', then this place is your venue. We're coming back and that's a hard promise. 5-Stars!!!! read more

Ned's Southside Kitchen does not disappoint. My last visit was before the Pandemic shutdown. Ned's restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes. It's like they have multiple identities -- menu, with Mexican, Greek, Italian and southern food. Their eclectic offerings will satisfy any food craving. Their entrée, sides mixed vegetables were not from a can and warmed up -- they were fresh. Collard Greens are my absolute veggie and they make it fresh everyday. I asked for hot pepper vinegar and they had it! I decided to splurge and ordered the small fried shrimp platter. The shrimp looked under done but one bite told me they were hot , fresh and plump. A definite do again, but I will not wait another two years to visit. read more

My husband and I visited Ned's for lunch while waiting for our car to be serviced just down the street. This was our first visit and we were both pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty! Our server was very attentive! The restaurant had a very homey feel with local artist's work in the walls for sale. We arrived just before noon and by 12:30 the majority of the tables were full! It was on a ten minute wait, but that time went by fast because there was a loving cat outside (in the photo, sorry for the bad quality, I couldn't get the camera down any further). Once we got inside and were seated, I got the baked ziti and it was amazing! I also shared fries with some of my family that were great, especially with the ranch. They have a lot on their menu! My wife and I had a great lunch there a year ago, and decided to try dinner on a recent trip to Saint Augustine. I had the flounder Hemingway which came with pasta and veggies, and sun dried tomato basil butter. Fish and sides were good, but the amount of butter was huge. I guess I had imagined a drizzle of butter, but this was overpowering. I wouldn't eat that much butter in a week. Word to the wise; more is not always better! read more

1st timer at Ned's Southside Kitchen! I absolutely LOVE the food! The menu selection is large but not overwhelming. I ordered the Goat Cheese Salad, from a variety of really amazing sounding salads. I also started with a cup of Black Bean soup and never had such great soup. (I should have had a bowl!). The salad, topped with grilled vegetables was so extra large I could not eat the entire thing! My husband had chicken which came with mashed potatoes, bread and a vegetable. It was a huge helping and I did bug him that it was a lot to eat for lunch! He ate it all as he agreed with me that it was a huge helping! Service was okay and the staff is kept busy so ours was all "down to business" which is greatly appreciated at lunch hour! With a large family, we are not looking for ambiance and frills, but good food and not over priced. A restaurant well loved by locals is for real! The food is always good and they are busy everyday except Sunday. Hours are nine to eleven.They are eclectic in their offerings. Three of us stopped for lunch and I ordered the nova salmon platter... delicious! My wife had the flounder and enjoyed it. Our friend ordered turkey and stuffing with the cranberry salad was excellent! I also ordered black bean soup and with hot sauce it was outstanding! Oh Ned my intention of this review is much like your cooking, I came here craving something special off your very diverse menu - after mulling over it while enjoying a wonderful glass of Iced Tea I was torn in so many directions just as you seem to struggle to please all the cultures of the world. I commend you on the effort it's a daunting task you have attempted and I'm sure your have as many successes as you have failures, and I applaud you on so many levels but today I can't applaud everything you've dished up although that's would be my wish. I can say without hesitation the service we received today was exceptional, our server was friendly and enthusiastic and she provided accurate and honest information. After comparing the menu board at the entrance to the triangular card set on the table to the pages of menus in the booklet I was not only overwhelmed and confused I was quite frustrated - choosing a lunchtime meal shouldn't be this difficult and the odds are the longer you search the chance of picking bad increases I've proven this theory many times. Today I chose the pot roast which I was told was really oven prepared lean tender brisket with brown gravy drizzled over it served with mashed potatoes which I substituted with your delicious sweet potatoes fries and green bean and carrots which I requested only the green beans and Ned let me tell you the beans were good and as ridiculously as the portion was I managed to eat more than half - I chose good and my meal was pretty good as I designed it, it was a combination of healthy and savory but in my opinion the little end cut tough bread is cute but not required. Oh but Ned my girl's experience was quite different - different as in did this food really come out of the same kitchen I'm glad to see you attempted to tear down some culture barriers but that's really not your responsibility, I'm not sure if there is a Cuba / Mexican connection or if that's even possible but I must say your attempt failed miserably - chicken enchiladas in a crock hmmmm somewhat creative but in a crock isn't working for me, the amount of cheeses made me think of a enchilada lasagna nah I don't think Mexican / Italian works either. The black beans and rice with tomato's, oh and you decided to premixed them for her I'd say and hope you can agree this is risky to say the least and soggy and deteriorates even more as it cools off. I couldn't identify the little dish of bean salad - bean marinate - bean medley - mysterious bean stuff please enough with the beans. I do think there is talent in the kitchen but it's too much. I didn't see anywhere that you're serving up the kitchen sink but I could have missed it on one of the many menus distributed throughout this cute little restaurant I think a breakfast menu would work well here also... read more

Stopped here for lunch - it was very busy but we were seated immediately. I ordered the Mussels in a red sauce and my wife ordered shrimp off the Gluten Free menu (a nice touch). The mussels were most likely pre-cooked and were OK but not great - I would not order it again. My wife loved the GF Shrimp dish - it was a very generous meal with veggies and mashed potatoes. The service was very friendly. I would come back but not for the mussels. Prices are very reasonable and as this is locally owned, I would recommend Ned's over any chain trash. read more

Stopped in to try Ned's on Saturday for lunch. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Once seated we ordered the conch fritters and the 8 piece shrimp basket. Both were very good. Instead of the slaw I upgraded for $1 to a side salad. Pretty decent size side salad. The only complaint I would have is that I had to keep asking for water refills. read more
