DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Rick Tobin, the Agent for National Van Lines came referred to us by our realtor, who will never refer them to anyone after she heard what happened to us. We were promised our full truck would arrive on the date we planned to be at our new house. We had no communication from Mr. Tobin, but were notified by the driver on the last day of packing at our house, that once our truck was loaded, it was going to a holding area in the next county to wait to drive to central California to pick up a very small shipment to go on the back of our truck. From Central California, our truck went to Durango, Colorado to drop off the secondary very small shipment. Our truck arrived 3 days late to our home, and we needed our belongings to set up our home and get our daughter to school the next day. Additionally, a small file box with important paperwork that we required to be with us, was loaded into the truck and was inaccessible to remove. I notified Rick Tobin, and he never returned my text. Furniture arrived scratched and with missing wood pieces and irreplaceable Antiques were broken. Boxes were crushed from the way they stacked and loaded the truck. We also found 2 of our boxes that had crayon drawings on them - which had to be done by a child. How did this happen? When was a child in our truck and possibly climbing and jumping around on our boxes? We were told to stay out of the truck for our safety. Don't give your money to these people who make promises about delivery schedules, and then change the plan and don't communicate any changes to you. They used us to make a little extra money to load a very small shipment on the back of our truck which was predominantly full. We paid the price through a delayed delivery, which was a hardship, and damaged and broken possessions. My dog's food was on the truck and the heat from Central California and high altitude side-trip through the Rockies damaged the packaging and contents. Find a different moving company. This is a horrible company that moved our stuff in two separate shipments. This was not planned and we were assured it was normal and our things would arrive together. The first truck arrived on-time but with many items broken but the driver demanded we pay upfront for the shipment and file claims. The claims were ignored and we were left with a broken bed frame, busted dresser, and several other items we just had to dispose of. The second shipment was more than a month late and contained everything from our kitchen. We had nothing to cook or clean with for a month. Instead, the driver demanded payment in full when he arrived on a Saturday during a holiday weekend. We had to cancel our personal plans and watch more of our broken property be delivered. Also, the workers unloading the truck got high during a break and then proceeded to unload our things high on drugs. They were all very rude and complained the entire time. I cannot say enough how terrible this experience was/is. NVL management is even worse. All our claims are being ignored and we are just left with broken property and with little to no recourse. read more

I was going to use them to help me move so in the morning i requested a quote and thought maybe someone would reach out later. went to go get something to eat downstairs in my house came back up and Within 10 minutes, i received 3 calls two texts and emails. it has been nonstop for 2 weeks. Can't give zero stars, so I guess I'll give one. They missed the three day contracted delivery window and broke almost everything in the truck. We had paid for the extra insurance, so we submitted a substantially justified claim for $8k worth of damaged goods and they reimbursed $800. Absolutely miserable customer experience. On behalf of my entire family, thank you so, so much NVL for providing us with an honest move. This was our first experience moving interstate and we didn't go half way across the nation but all the way to the other opposite end. West coast to East coast. This process for us started with a text message from NVL stating, "Evening, Denaja! If anyone asks for a deposit or for money upfront towards your move, regardless of how far in the future it is, do not work with them. You cannot reserve non-peak pricing. Payment isn't due until your possessions are delivered to NC. " It was sent at 9:48pm right after I got off the phone with a company to help me move that I had already scheduled to do our move and pay an initial fee of over $1k up front. I thought I did my research, but being that this was my 1st time and the timing of that text message I started to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th guess myself and started doing more research on the company I booked with. So many things they said seemed too good to be true and after reading so many bad reviews, endless horrifying reviews and finding them out to be a broker company with no fleet, I called them up the next day and cancelled all reservations and hurried up and called NVL to find out more info and get the process started. What the rep told me, which reassured me I was making the right choice was that they are a family company that partners up with another family company that will come out the next day to do an in-person consultation and pricing that would be final. We were pressed for time since we had to be out of the apartment soon, so I went ahead and booked it. It was a pleasure speaking with that rep as well. She was friendly and well-informed. I even called her 1 or 2 more times after everything for more questions and she didn't mind answering them. So, the next day A2B moving coming into our home for a consultation by Ryan Peltier. He was very professional and patient with our questions while walking around our apartment back in WA state. He was clear on the paperwork and what to expect with the next steps in the moving process would be. Later on that day he gave us a price, near what he estimated it would be and we finalized the amount through all the paperwork. A couple of times the price was adjusted and was cheaper which was a pleasant surprise. Then two men who came to pack all of our things, Travis and Brandon, (please forgive me if I forgot names), were so awesome. Travis was professional and quite while handling the paperwork with the most care and concern. Brandon was more outspoken and professional and very warm while cracking jokes with us all. He definitely helped my Mother, who was feeling so uneasiness about the move and the packing, feel more at ease and secure. He also gave us some advice on packing things up and let us know what else we could quickly put away to be shipped to our new apartment instead of leaving it behind. After all of that he gave us a hug each and I really appreciate his warm friendly spirit. He also is SUPER informative on how things are packed away and how we get our drivers, how long the journey might take for us to receive our items, and much more. It was a pleasure speaking to both of them and a pleasure having both of them pack up our items. Fast forward to arriving in NC, it took about a week for our items to arrive. The day before they arrived the driver Sean called to let me know he was moving out from VA and will be there at 8am sharp to unload. The payment process was really easy to do online as well. So Sean surely kept his word. I got a knock at the door and there was Sean and the movers at 8am and we gave them the ok to move on in. They were so fast in unloading. Faster than what I expected. 1 item of mines was a little busted, but that was to be expected, it is flimsy lol But Sean carries and extra small toolkit just in case and he banged it back together and I am still using it like before. He didn't have to do that but he was so thoughtful. I appreciate it so much. While the two men were uploading Sean had a lovely convo with my Mother and my sister and myself. It is nice to have a talkative person with a nice personality like that come in contact with us. After everything, I must say, if we ever move again NVL is where I am going to 1st. They made me wish I encountered them right from the jump right along side A2B Moving. It was such a bless to encounter each person through each step of the process and if I had to do it again, I would with each person. This sort of 1st time experience was nerve rattling. We moved from Illinois to California, and everything went really well. We were nervous about our first cross-country move and researched many different moving companies. We settled on National Van Lines based on the reviews we could find and their reasonable quote. Aaron Bacon handled our move very well from the beginning, answering dozens of questions we had about logistics and pricing. The moving crews on both sides were careful and efficient. The driver, Kevin, was excellent-- friendly, patient, and informative. He told us he would be our driver the whole way and that our stuff should arrive in six days, and he followed through on that. We had only two small issues: On the move-in day, they initially were unable to to get a shuttle truck so there was an hour delay, but they made up for it by waiting for the elevator to be available again and quickly finishing the move. We were glad they had recommended scheduling our flights for the next day as it may have been stressful if we were leaving that night. All of our stuff arrived in the same condition as we had it in Chicago, except for a dent in the drawer of our filing cabinet. That's pretty good for more than 50 items, including ones with glass doors. Small issues like these are to be expected, and we were overall very happy with their customer service and efficiency. Let me start by saying I NEVER write reviews. I'm writing one this time in the hope of helping someone avoid the terrible issues I've had with this company. I've hired National Vanlines for 3 cross country moves. I know you're thinking, "well, they can't be that bad if you hired them 3 times.". You'd be wrong, the first move was fine and was honestly so long ago I can't remember if there were issues. The second move came in more than TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS more than they estimated due to the packers using way more boxes than needed (another scam of theirs). Of course I had to pay the difference because they wouldn't release my furniture. I went with them a third time thinking I could avoid an inflated estimate by packing some myself and then watching them very closely pack the rest of my things. Now that you know how I got here, I'll start with their sales agent, Aaron Bacon. If you call and get Aaron, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. He's an amazing sales person, and the BEST scam artist. He sent me "proof" of how other companies were scammers and being stressed and crunched for time, I cancelled a competitor and went with them. Aaron would answer emails immediately, then after I signed the contract I literally never heard from him again. Literally to this day I haven't heard from him. Next it's the actual move - National van lines called saying a truck would be here Oct 25th to load me and 28th delivery. The day before, the truck driver (not national van lines) called to lmk the truck broke down. I understand, this happens. They found me another truck and THAT ONE BROKE DOWN TOO! That resulted in my stuff being delayed a week after they said, but of course they give you a stupid long window so you're contractually obligated to deal with their BS. The last straw, when I finally got my delivery, my favorite (and expensive) lamp was broken. It's not worth paying the $500 deductible and frankly I just don't ever want to deal with them again. Saver yourself the headache. Just load your own car and drive across multiple states lines if you have to. Just never ever ever go with them. UPDATE: The response below is canned and not sincere. It was quickly apparent that National was the way to go, especially with Speedwell Transportation and Lee Paxson out of Lancaster, CA. From start to finish, National was superb! The original agent that set us up for the move, Michael Barrios, was a terrific communicator and was very responsive to our inquiries. He was clear and extremely helpful. Michael was the only one of three estimators from moving companies that did an actual virtual tour of our house. So, he knew specifically what we had to move and made his estimate accordingly. He's great. The driver, Dennis Snyder, was also superb. He was very professional, organized, detailed, and also an excellent communicator. And, he was extremely personable. The helpers that he hired to assist in loading and unloading were careful with our belongings and efficient. After hearing and reading about the horror stories that customers have experienced with movers, it was such a relief to have National do exactly what they promised and with accuracy and efficiency. Worst experience ever. Let me recap. Driver is in charge of everything from loading to unloading. If you get a bad driver, you're hosed. Had company pack for us; kitchen was well done but the rest of the house was horrible. Heavy pieces put on top of art pieces, etc. Driver was late to arrive because he was heading to the wrong city! When he arrived late, he insisted on continuing to load until well after midnight. We of course weren't there and our neighbors were livid. The delivery date passed because the van broke down and we weren't notified until a day later. When driver did show up he had 3 men to unload. One had his 10 year old son with him who was trying to help! Our thresh hold was badly damaged because this kid kept dropping things on it. They dropped our piano (trashed). It looks like they dragged our formal dining room table on the ground (unrepairable). They snapped the top of an Ethan Allen night stand in half (also unrepairable). The driver tried to fix everything with gorilla glue and black magic marker! He told us that piano legs were taped because they do that to prevent the wheels from coming off. It was only after I insisted they remove the tape that I saw the piano legs were splintered and the crack was running up both legs. I am a senior and have moved many times in my life, but I have never experienced this! PLEASE take out extra insurance it is well worth it. I must say that the claim process has been pretty seamless. We are getting reimbursed for our piano and the majority of other things. Just make sure to take pictures of your stuff before the move and dig out any receipts you have. read more

For the most part National was ok. My local mover turned out to be an agent for NVL. My local mover, Joe Bonnie Moving in Delray Beach FL, was highly recommended. Joe Bonnie was great with the arrangements and pickup and storage. I purchased Full Replacement Coverage at $0 deductible up to $125,000. I had small delivery issues that included a stereo/media entertainment unit, danish style. It was beyond repair, requiring replacement. I had my receipt from 1992 with a purchase price of $849. I thought replacement coverage would reimburse me to replace the item. NO, I was offered $850 toward replacement. The claim rep, Monique, claimed it could be replaced for $850, yet offered no where that could be found in 2022. I know I couldn't find anywhere. After protesting the first offer, she made me wait another 4+ weeks for her "reevaluation" which was no different. Of course I had the option to arbitration. The replacement coverage for my coverage limit cost me $950. What a scam! read more

Don't use this company for your move. We recently used them for an interstate move. Lazy drivers wouldn't put our furniture back together after they delivered it. They had no tools, both the crew that picked/up and the crew that delivered. Broke items and will not replace or pay for them. Charged for mattress boxes that were not used. I could go on and on. DON'T USE!! Moved from KS to OK. National was contracted thru Professional Moving Storage in KS. Showed up late. complained about having to move a treadmill. Broke and damage the treadmill along with damage to our property when they moved it out. 4 weeks later still trying to waiting on their adjusters to determine if there is damage or not!! Because no damage was reported at the time of pickup/delivery. Like an employee is going to report that!! See for yourself. A few pictures of the treadmill that was a year old. Everything about my move was 5-stars with one glaring exception that I can't overlook to give them the 5-stars I wish I could. * The price was great and significantly lower than competing offers. * The sales person, DANIELLE PERRI, I worked with and who did my video pre-inspection to come up with the estimate was super helpful and accommodating throughout the entire process. She answered lots of questions and worked with me on the price. * The College Muscle movers who picked up my household goods were super. Four young people who seemed to know enough to be able to do the job well. They got everything packed up safely and securely in a reasonable amount of time. They navigated the challenge of an 8th floor apartment and having to manage an elevator and a truck at the end of a long long parking ramp. * The customer service/operations/scheduling folks who dealt with "the issue" communicated extremely well once they recognized the problem and went the extra mile to mitigate it. * The movers who picked up my stuff and delivered it were extremely top notch. ALL my goods were delivered in good condition. I've moved many times (14+), and this is one of the best teams If not the best teams I ever worked with. They delivered on a Sunday to get me my stuff soonest. Now we come to "the issue." After they specified a 14 day window for delivery after pick-up, they still missed the end date by 10 days. I don't know for certain, but I'm pretty sure they made no arrangements to delivery my goods until I called to check on where my delivery was on day 10 of the delivery window after not hearing anything from them. I signed my contract and the move was booked 12 May. They new everything they needed at that point, but two months later they were scrambling to figure out how they were going to actually move and deliver my goods. Despite how exceptionally good every other part of the process was, this is a big miss. They rightly offered me a significant discount based on the lateness and they took the amount off before I paid. They did not insist on payment before delivery (I think this may have been by accident since the movers that delivered my goods got them to me in record time given the date they picked up my goods.). They contacted me with the updated amount and I paid them promptly. I was inconvenienced by the lateness of the delivery, but I also feel like I was treated fairly and with care once the mistake was recognized. I want to emphasize how great every other part of the move was and want to especially recognize the team that worked with me to schedule my move after I called to check and also the movers that delivered my goods. In thinking about it, I would still use National Van Lines again, I just might start nagging them sooner on the delivery date, and hope they understand. We have never moved long distance before selling our vacation home in Arizona, so we were totally at a loss on how and where to begin the process. The kicker was our things were in storage in AZ and we were in ND, so that complicated the situation. I have moved many times before and it has NEVER been a good experience!! This time I did my homework and checked the BBB (better business bureau) website for reputable movers. I called and spoke to Aaron Bacon, which was very professional and answered all of my questions. He even explained to me how to search any moving company online to know if they are brokers or moving company and how many drivers and trucks they own! Super valuable information as I have been burned in the past with moving brokers! I obtained a binding estimate and it was exactly that price upon delivery of my move! They arrived at the date and time as agreed upon, thoroughly wrapped all of my furniture with blankets and took very good care of my property. David, my mover was excellent as well. This was my first interstate move from Fl to TN and I had everything within 48 hours of pick up! Although they are not cheap, but peace of mind and reputation is worth it! I had a move cross country and when the mover showed up he had nothing to wrap my furniture including new white couch and I was promised that once he got them to the truck he was wrapping them thoroughly there. Once my things arrived at my storage unit they still had not been wrapped and many items were ruined! I haven't moved for over ten years so I really didn't have any expectations for movers so I did what most people probably do, went to an internet site that eventually had a bunch of movers bid for my move. The team showed up late, not to the point where I was getting ready to call, but to the point I was questioning if I should. Most of my items were already packed, but some of the furniture needed to be wrapped and/or protected. I had to leave during the moving process and the team did a terrible job taking reasonable care to protect my belongings. I had an Elite Plasma TV that they were going to box and protect. All of these were packed by National and not myself, so it should be a fairly good reflection of their services. 1 Leather coach - dragged across ground and leather scuffed and damaged 1 Plasma TV - broken due to their packaging 1 Picture frame - damaged due to mispackaging 1 bookcase press board - Dented on it's side 1 solid wood bookcase - glass shelf missing and back pushed out 2 Dining room chairs broken - both head of table chairs had arms broken 1 half moon solid wood desk - Scuffed and dented all over 2 MB Quart Speakers - Scratched and dented all over Yamaha receiver - Leg broken off To give you an idea of how much stuff I moved the only items that are not damaged were the things I packed, two end tables, a coffee table, and the love seat. Ever other thing that they touched was broken in some way. Stay away from this sham of a service. The delivery was also five days late which resulted in them allowing me to stay in a hotel and t0 pay for half my food costs. This cost me approximately $1000 hat I have had to float since January because their checks have writing on them stating that I release and discharge the company from any and all claims. Update 2/20 received a random check in the mail for claimed damages, no explanation or payment breakdown. Sent an email on 2/15 as a follow up to a voicemail that I left the same day. No contact or follow up whatsoever by National. Even with the note on yelp, they clearly do not care about their customers. Update 2/22 - Spoke with Theresa Brown in the claims department as a response to this yelp review. No apologies for Patti not calling me back and the explanation on the settlement was non existent. Promises to review and call me back. We'll see if this is the case or just hollow promises and additional appeasement tactics. Update 2/24 - Theresa at least has kept her word, something that seems difficult for this company to do and is reviewing the claim. She at least is responsive to customer inquiries over the other individuals that I have dealt with with National. I am however still unable to cash any checks as don't have resolution and the it's been over a month where I have had to float the hotel money, Update 3/5 - I still do not have resolution and checks so pushing two months of me floating the funds with no resolution. I couldn't ask for a more difficult customer experience. read more

If you are capable, just get a U-Haul and drive your stuff yourself. This company will have you waiting weeks upon weeks for your items to arrive with no communication in the meantime. They will also throw random charges on you at the last minute when you can no longer back out. Not worth it. read more

Not sure why anyone gave this company less than 5 stars; I'd give them more, if I could! It's really tricky finding a moving company that's honest, reliable, reasonably priced, professional and FRIENDLY. At a certain point, after getting referrals, talking with different companies and doing your due diligence, you have to roll the dice; and I am certainly glad I did. All the traits above National met in spades; they were incredibly efficient, professional, time sensitive, and wanted above all to please ME, the customer, and to get the job done. Yes, they contract a third party to handle your stuff, but guess what folks, ALL the moving companies do. I made the move from L.A. to PDX, and they're based in IL, so, of course they're going to do this. But the actually movers were great, efficient, professional, and showed up when they said they would . And the price? Less than HALF of what the others wanted. ALL my stuff (all 2 tons of it!) arrived safe, sound, with no "casualties." From here on out, I'll use National every time. Thanks for everything! read more

National Van Lines suggested the damage they did to my furniture and mattress valued at nearly $18K. I had to schedule and have this done and of course, the grease did not come out and the damaged fabric did not clean itself into repair. Now, National Van Lines is requesting that I get documentation from the cleaning company, which should be their job. I sent them photos of my items after cleaning. These people do not care about your items. ALL of this damage is because they did not protect my items even though I paid them for a full service move. The entire process from packing to unloading was an absolute cluster. DO NOT HIRE NATIONAL VAN LINES. I have a full replacement cost insurance policy on this $20K move and I am fighting to get them to honor their responsibility. I have so much time and money invested in simply trying to get National Van Lines to take responsibility for their actions that even if they do, I will still be out $hundreds in extra time, hotels, labor, etc. read more

They were honest and came on time. Loaded quickly and delivered on time! When loading and unloading they were careful to protect furniture and unloaded the 2 CA King Foam mattresses without damage! Nothing arrived damaged and all items arrived. I would use them again. read more

After a sudden life change, I found myself needing to move from Georgia to central Texas within a week to start a new job. Obviously, the move was way too sudden to attempt to try and move myself (I drive a Prius, so not a lot could go with me and Uhaul said it'd take several days to order a hitch for my car and then a day to install it, and I just didn't have that amount of time). I thought about having a family member drive or fly down to drive a uhaul truck with my stuff, but after figuring in his costs for transportation and a hotel (the drive would've been 14+ hours depending on traffic), it just didn't seem worth it. I read several reviews online, and many were bad (as most reviews for anything are usually critical), and I was a little hesitant. But after National Van Lines quoted me a price that was relatively close (app. $600 more) to what it'd take to move myself, those several hundred dollars seemed worth it. Since it's a national company, the salesperson coordinates with local moving companies to arrange your move. While this may result in requiring a little flexibility (my movers came a couple of days earlier than what the salesperson had originally thought they'd be able to arrive), I felt it was much better for them to be early rather than late. Also, they arrived within the time frame quoted on the contract. I'm just a procrastinator so I didn't prepare for them to be able to come for the first day quoted, even though I had known it to be a slim possibility. The arrival day to the final destination was on time and the movers were able to unload my stuff rather quickly. The guys put large furniture and boxes in the locations I requested and worked efficiently. They unloaded app. 4,700 lbs. in a little under two hours! Unloading it myself would've taken much longer. Since any national moving company will require coordinating among different companies (especially due to moving across several states), I was impressed that my stuff made it to the end location on exactly the day I was quoted. Additionally, even though I had almost twice as much stuff as what my initial estimate was (through no fault of the company, I just underestimated the amount of boxes I would have), I was pleasantly surprised with the final bill. In fact, another popular national moving company had quoted me $2000 more than National Van Lines, so I can only imagine how outrageous the final bill for that company would've been! Overall, I am VERY pleased with my experience with National Van Lines. They made my move so much easier than what it would have been had I tried to move myself or tried to coordinate with several loading/unloading companies in two different states on my own. Additionally, I called them on very short notice, yet they were able to pick up my stuff within the week and have my belongings to me just a few days after I moved to Texas! read more
