After moving my senior parents out of their home of 54 years to another state, the last task was the physical packing and moving of the house hold items. Based on the reviews, we choose Long distance Movers. My parents lived on the 3rd floor of our family building and held years worth of items including a book and album collection as well as some antique furniture items. I worked with the sales team all the way up until the day of the move and made adjustments based on time and necessity. The move time was pushed back several times, which I remained flexible on. The driver (Mike) called me to let me know they were running late, I said no problem. I could tell in that conversation, (Mike) did not sound pleasant at all. When Mike and Alex arrived, it was confirmed, he was not interested in the job at all. The other mover (Alex) was friendlier. I began to show them the items that needed to be packed and I showed them around the property. Mike said we had more than what was listed on the quote. I advised the quote had be revised several times and we decided to not take some of the larger pieces. There was (1) item located on the first floor (that I sent pictures of) and some items in the basement. After showing both movers what needed to be done, I asked if they would rather park their truck in the alley. They agreed and said they would pull around back. THEY NEVER CAME BACK!!! I called Mike several times and did not get an answer...then the calls went to voicemail. I then attempted to call my sales person Matthew and realized the phone number listed does not allow you to enter an extension number. I then tried the representative who called me to confirm the move. I had to leave VM with both and wait for a call back. They were very surprised and apologetic but could not tell me why the drivers left with no notice. I was eventually told they could not "Accommodate" our needs! I completely understand how overwhelming that task may have appeared to someone walking into a large apartment, that wasn't the most organized or tidy, but isn't that what that $4,000+ quote was paying for. What if we had to be out of the property within days? To leave the job and make me wait for 30 minutes in the alley is completely unprofessional. Moving in general is extremely stressful, now imagine being a couple of senior citizens, one of which is a disable veteran battling cancer and being told their movers left without notice! read more

Highly recommended for anyone taking on a move that's beyond renting a truck, finding some buddies, and moving from one Chicago neighborhood to another. I'm too old to be enticing friends to carry my crap up and down stairs with beer and pizza, it was time to grow up. And Long Distance Movers is the company for that grown up move. First they have representatives that will not only quote your move but also check in and stay as your point of contact throughout the entire process. My rep was excellent in following up and responding to all of my questions and requests. He went out of his way to make my requested dates and times work, and that in itself already makes the costs come close to being worth it. But the movers themselves make it a no-brainer. They were courteous, polite, and professional. They also took a lot of time and care into helping prepare my items to go into storage and take the trip across a couple states. I thought I did well packing but they really improved on my work, rearranging and wrapping items that seemed loose or wobbly. I felt everything was super safe and taken care of when they were done. Good people throughout the company and good practices made my move super easy and convenient and the personal interactions make it completely worth the cost. They came on time, beautifully packed my son's household items, even fixed a piece of furniture that was broken prior to the move (!!!!) No better service could be found - honestly. This is the worst moving company I have ever used, and I've moved a lot. I hired them based on Yelp reviews to move me from Chicago to LA. They sent a crew who was on their second move of the day who bitched about how much stuff I have, despite having detailed pictures. They ended up making such a fuss and taking so long I had to leave stuff behind from the bathroom and closets. They kept saying they needed more boxes - found out later that many were packed only half full. They packed heavy cast iron pans on top of china and dishes. They didn't properly cover the stainless steel furniture and dragged it along concrete. They destroyed a bookcase and broke a stainless steel chair in half. Every box arrived dented and bashed in. $12000 of damage, by my estimate, but their insurance company refused to cover most of it. Said I should have filed a notice ahead of time that my furniture was handmade and worth more than 1k per item. Didn't cover the bookcase at all as I took pictures and had the company remove as I didn't want to be stuck with a giant broken bookcase. This, despite repeatedly telling the rep my furniture was expensive and specifically asking if I needed to do anything else to ensure coverage. Ended up getting 2k and being stuck with dented damaged high end furniture. Set your stuff on fire before you hire these people. The absolute worst. I am guessing their reviews were paid for as you couldn't do worse than them. I will look into a BBB complaint. read more

When moving comes i know everyone gets overwhelmed and just want to get things moved and finished with as soon as possible and that when i found these guys. I asked them for help and they were so on time the day of the moving. They helped me unplug all the wires and started from scratch and got everything done in so little time. I was amazed of the fast work they did and so carful with my belongings.I legit appreciate this company for making my moving way easier then i thought because i was hanging thoughts on how I will be able to move my huge sofas down the stairs and also my refrigerator but they made it possible for me easily. So, I get overwhelmed with moving and needed help. A friend recommended me to this moving group I said sure, fine why not. Two dudes show up. My apartment was barely packed up. Thankfully the guys were handy and had a cardboard TV box handy for my 52" flat screen and did a wonderful job wrapping up corners and legs of my giant wood dining room table and chairs. This all took less than 1.5 hours to pack and bring down 3 flights of stairs. Last time I used EZ movers and those half wits scuffed up my leather couch & dropped couple of fragile boxes. I live in Las Vegas and was tasked by family to relocate my mother's belongings from her Chicago apartment to her new residence in an assisted living facility in Connecticut. When reviewing potential moving companies on Yelp i was impressed by the number of comments (and high ratings) for Long Distance Movers on both customer service and friendliness of the moving crew. I decided to give them a shot (along with two other companies I requested a bid from) and would like to add my voice to the reviewers who have already yelped their positive experience. From the very beginning my experience was positive. I was able to arrange for an estimator to view the apartment within two days (more difficult than it sounds since I was coordinating from 1500 miles away), received my estimate within an hour of the estimators inspection and was able to set the date for the "pack" on the same call. On the day of the move the packing team arrived on time and were very pleasant and helpful throughout the process even accommodating some of my last minute requests without fuss. Additionally, for a small additional fee they were able to confirm a specific date and time for delivery to my mother's new residence in Connecticut which was extremely important to me (and my mother). Many moving companies offer a 2-3 day window for delivery, as I learned. From beginning to end the process was as smooth and effortless as a cross country move can be. I was super anxious about my move as I was not only moving from state to state but moving to a high rise condo in downtown Chicago...a new experience for me. Michael was my contact at Long Distance Movers and he was wonderful and put up with my constant questions and requests and changes. I received a quote and after all was said and done that's what I paid...there were no hidden charges or additional add on charges that surprised me. The movers had some car trouble en route to pick up my belongings but despite showing up late they still did the entire pack and move and were very professional about it. On my move in all of my furniture was still in its original condition as they did a fantastic job wrapping everything. We used this company to move from Vermont to Chicago three years ago, but I wanted to wait until we unpacked the items from storage before I left a glowing review. They came to the house in Chicago to see all of the items we were going to pack so the quote was accurate because they did it themselves. It took 2 days for the crew to pack up everything and load it up on the truck. Then they drove across the country to Vermont and we met them at our new apartment. Some items were to go to the apartment and the rest to storage. Everything was so well labeled and we had no trouble with missing items. We've finally moved to our new home and unpacked everything from storage and not a single thing was broken. We have 3 sets of china and not a single piece broke. Everything was so well wrapped you will be drowning in paper and blankets (they do charge for the blankets so we're not throwing those things out)! As for fees it was a jaw dropping price, but that did include packing up everything for us. What I learned is that you can negotiate based on other quotes you receive, so that helped some. The crew was great, careful and friendly, which was nice because we spent a lot of time with them. read more

The team that handled the packing and moving in Chicago was on time and, given the limited window my apartment building gave them, efficient and ultimately ahead of schedule. All electronics, furniture, housewares, etc. were safely and securely boxed, tagged, and moved. The team that transported, delivered and, in some cases, reassembled the furniture and 25+ boxes were equally diligent, professional, and a pleasure to work with. On both legs of the move, LD Movers were proactively contacting me via email and, as the move days approached, via phone. Five stars doesn't do these guys justice. Long Distance Movers is the most professional moving company in the country! They helped me move twice, long distance, to two different cities and every time was amazing. Let me paint a picture of the process - you reach out to the company and someone will reach out to you right away. Then you communicate your moving situation local, long distance, etc. Then the paperwork includes a detailed list of the number of boxes, furniture, luggage, etc. that you will be moving; plus insurance; and a very fair price for all the services. Then the movers come and always come in at least a pair or more people. They are always very polite and thorough. They come prepared with all the moving supplies if you need help to pack up or not. They pack up all the boxes and throughly wrap all furniture, etc. The best part is that they come with stickers with bar codes and place one on everything item that is moved. Then they scan the barcode so that everything is recorded. Then there are documents to sign. They place everything in the trucks and during drop off they drop off everything in your place and unpack anything they wrapped up. When they unpack everything the stickers with numbers and barcode ensure that everything is accounted for. During both of my moves, I did not lose anything and nothing was damaged. The price you pay for their very professional services are very fair. They make it a point to take care of everyone's belongings like family. You are in constant communication with the company from the moment you email them to the moment you unpack. They will make sure you receive everything in pristine condition. Also, the movers are always super friendly, polite, very helpful, and very hardworking. I strongly recommend Long Distance Movers! This is the worst experience I ever had. I spoke with agent Dan, we went through the list of things, asked the location where I would be moving. I gave them both addresses( where I am currently and where I will be moving). I get a contract and am I'm feeling good. I get a call from Dan asking me to sign the contract and supply my credit card so he can lock in the date because he's getting off soon and won't be in until Wednesday of next week. Sure no problem. I don't get a confirmation email so I call back and I speak with Frank. Whom goes on to tell me that there is a problem with my order. The place your moving to is too remote and we will need to charge you $700 more to move you. Are you serious? l just signed a contract and now your telling me your going to add more money for something that I told to you up front?!?!. Franks says Dan is new and should have told me. Frank says he need to talk to his managers and he'll get back to me. The verdict: they still want the extra 700.00 dollars more even though I was told and the contract says something different. So the price went from $2280 to $2980 in just 30 mins. They won't even honor their mistake. I'm at a lost here. I won't be using their services. read more

Are you kidding me???? I have called several places and was quoted around 4-5 K, which is way more on par with the average cost of a long distance move. At the pickup they went above and beyond storing my belongings and communication was very good. They allow you to hold items for 30 days free after pickup if you don't want them delivered right away. Highly professional and the move went through without a glitch right from packing(Adrian was amazing) to the unloading of items.we were on our way back into the town when the delivery arrived. We would be late by 3 hours but the delivery person was v.sweet to wait for us and there were no extra charges for the wait too!
