I can only speak to my experiences with Ken and his crew. I have done local moves with them and three long distance moves and they all were great experiences. Moving is stressful and has lots of moving parts. Sometimes things happen that are out of anyone's control, but Ken and crew work really hard to do a great job and get your things safely from point A to B. Couple thoughts: Yes.. Ken and his load up crew are from the Chicago area and are great. They are efficient, polite, hard workers and care about your things. The driver is one of this Chicago crew and was also top-notch. He was eager to drop off and return home so he did want to have us ready to meet him the morning after he arrived down here. Once down here, they local guys. And it's true that this end of things is less consistent. However, with both my move and my moms move the guys worked hard. Both times the local guys were not on time and we had to wait an hour or so for them to get here. They also were not as careful as the guys up north. But that is much more typical of your typical mover/ laborer. I will say, both times they did do a nice job of unpacking and it was important to have someone at the Florida end that was directing where to put things and keep time accountability. My husband coordinated the florida end of our move and a lot of boxes ended up in my garage. If I had been here that wouldn't have happened. But that is why it's important to label boxes with the room name and them expect the drop off team to take to that room. In terms of payment, local moves, they pay when finished usually based on hours of work and travel time. For long distance moves, I would have thought that it would be "pay when last items is dropped off" but Ken did ask for payment when loaded up. I had already packed my checkbook so I told him I would have a cashiers check down in florida. I'm sure some deposit is needed. In terms of change in price, they do figure in a 10% flex amount. It's based on weight and distance. You would need to negotiate that. I supposed one part of all of this is reasonable expectations. I have moved cross country 5 times (dallas-chicago-tampa-Phoenix-chicago-Sarasota) and BY FAR this move with Ken was the least stress, damage, and cost. Will there be little issues? Sure... but overall they were the best I have ever used. read more

Long story, but seems some companies still try to take advantage of some people, like my cousin was many years ago, arranging for her senior-citizen mother. It is good for all of us to know states regulate movers. Moving companies can lose their state number, and this company almost did by cousin (not online) contacting the Illinois Commerce Commission. A Mills was fax'd all details. They showed up with an extra mover than what was agreed. They tried to obtain full payment before leaving with furniture. They then tried to get more money from family members before leaving final destination. After my cousin complained to ICC, they immediately contacted A Mills. Then A Mills insisted my cousin accept some money in retribution. Good to know all states have some kind of regulation for not only moving companies but many businesses....maybe all. Damaged my stuff, wouldn't use mattress bags I purchased, didn't shrink wrap anything, stuffed my drawers with paper and some of my person items went missing from the drawers, dumped dirt all over the carpet, put heavy boxes on light boxes crushing things, broke glasses, made jokes about throwing my Christmas stuff away in a dumpster, didn't re-tape boxes that needed extra tape and stuff fell out the bottom, chunks of my furniture is missing and dining chair pads are damaged, too. Instead of packing beverages in my frig they drank items without asking. It was a bad move. Very stressful. A lot broken/missing. read more

We used A Mills Van Lines to move our 1st floor furniture move. We got wood floors installed and needed the furniture moved to the garage. The guys did a great job. Laid cardboard down in the garage. Protected the furniture with blankets. When we were ready for them to move the furniture back in, they were just as careful and courteous. The guys wiped some of the dust that accumulated on the furniture. They added felt pieces to the bottom of the furniture and put the pieces exactly were I wanted them. I paid for the move out with my credit card and move back in with a check. Price matched what was quoted for both visits. Very satisfied customer!!! read more

This is the third time that we used Roland and A Mills Van Lines. We used them in 2009, and then again this January (2014) to take a dining room set to a furniture restoration place. We just used them today to bring it back to our house. This time, just like before, they did an outstanding job. Roland supervises carefully to make sure that everything is handled just right. I have seen and experienced other movers who are just muscle and don't think about or plan the job before they do it. Roland prepared and took every caution. He even brought his own felt footies to put on the bottom of the table and china cabinet for me before putting them on my bamboo floor. How thoughtful is that? Well where do I start!!!! Ken was kind and professional in Streamwood. That's were we were moving from. The guys there were very professional and friendly! Did a great job packing and loading everything. The problem started with the truck being too small for a 5 bedroom house. By the end of the day they were putting my extra things in an suv. We moved to Florida. They stored our things for 2 weeks. What happened with in that time; I can't imagine!!! When they arrived in Florida. The movers were all local. Not professionals. By any means!!! All my boxes were smashed, some furniture was damaged!! He said they moved all my things in another truck!! While it was in storage!! They didn't lay anything on my new floors, put nothing in the door ways!! Barely put anything back together again!! It was a nightmare!! So disgusting!!! He dropped the truck off the night before at our house then tried to leave it 2 more nights after the move!!! We told him to move it or it would be towed!!! It's like it was 2 different moving companies!!! Ken just wanted the money!! He was not prepared for such a big move!!! read more

Ken Mills and crew handled 2 large moves, one from 2 storage units and another a 2 bedroom apartment; the crew was efficient with getting my furniture and miscellanous items in and out within a reasonable timeframe. I will use them in the future for any moving needs (Ken offered to return to move furniture if I needed assistance or changed my mind). They are worse than the worst. I hired them to move only heavy items.but they grabed everything They destroyed my roll top desk,broke many items, lost the pins to my shelving, did not bring all the heavy items, did not take my file cabinets to my new basement office, locked the file drawers, lost my computer, dumped items on the floor, lied to me and then to add insult to injury, charged my credit card after I paid by check. I WOULD NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY EVER. THEY ARE LIERS AND TREAT YOUR STUFF LIKE GARBAGE. I was referred to Roland by family member who used them. Everything sounded good on the phone when we first spoke. Roland quoted a price of $150.00 an hour for 4 guys and he would come with and come with for free. The pricing compared to other places seemed a bit high but a good referral is worth paying a little more. I had received several calls form Benda and another gentleman going over our dates to move and how much we had. Brenda thought we had a 4 bedroom house and wanted to move on a Saturday, we had a 3 bedroom apartment and wanted to move on Sunday. The other gentleman that called tried to tell me they were sending extra guys and I told him I was quoted for 4 guys at $150.00 an hour. The 3 people that answer the calls (husband and wife team) need to learn to communicate with each other. They look like a bunch of morons when you get 3 different calls from the same company and different pricing. The day of the move the guys showed up at 7:30 on the dot just as I was told. A total of 6 guys which included Roland. Well that would make sense since a few days before they tried to bump up my move date to Saturday and they would "give me an extra guy for free." I told them I couldn't do that. So 6 guys all are going, moving all my stuff. The guys were very nice and hard working. I couldn't figure out why they strapped my dresser with everything still in it to move. I was told by Roland to leave all the dresser drawers full that the guys would take out the drawers and load them in the truck after the dresser? Because they chose to do it like that they broke a foot off my dresser that is only 3 months old. It was delivered and set up in my apartment buy the company we purchased it from and has never been moved since. About 40 min into the move Roland wants to go over the cost of the day....Here is where the price goes from $150 an hour to $180 and hour because he brought an extra guy. I asked him if he remembers talking to me and I told him we only have a 3 bedroom apartment and I had moved almost all my boxes the previous week that we didn't need an extra guy and he had quoted me $150. His response was oh yea I forgot....I'm not an Idiot he was just trying to raise the price. The price I was told was from the time of arrival to my apartment at 7:30 to the last item off the truck plus one hour is what I pay. I had no problem with that. I do have a problem with the price trying to change after the job is started. There were no contracts or emails sent from the company to confirm the move or pricing. They may want ot start doing that so there are no discrepancies. The best part of my move is when it's all over and done with to see that my bedroom set that was only a few months old is damaged in several places. Not just the leg of the dresser like I had mentioned earlier. Gouges taken out of the foot board that never had a scratch on it, the top of my dresser had 3 big gouges in the wood that need filler to even look normal, there was a chunk of wood taken out on the side of my bed where a drawer goes, The top of one of the night stands big scratch on the top, and a few more scratches and dings. Now I know that no one is perfect but they didn't do more that put a blanket on a few pieces to move them. I told Roland the bedroom furniture was very new please take care of it he said" no problem were professionals." I placed a call into Roland and he called me back the next day to say we wanted to get the job done as fast as we could. I told him about the damage and he got mad and told me he made no money moving me because he had an extra guy there and began to swear at me for even telling him about the damage. He said he told his guys to "grip it and rip it" so they can get this move done as fast as they could. I can tell you that they were the nicest people on the phone, the lack of communication i can look past, even before I told Roland about the damage he was very nice on the phone until I told him his guys trashed my furniture. I was told that my furniture was severely damaged before the move and how dare I even ask him to look at it. I did have damage on one of the night stands prior to moving and mike had pointed that out to me and I did tell him I knew about it. If any piece had a scratch on it or damage they told me about it before they moved it. Not one of the other pieces they moved did they ever tell me it had prior damage. After my phone call from Roland I am shocked at how he handled my concern. Never once did I raise my voice not once did I ever swear at him and this is what I got in return. It's pretty sad since the move seemed to go very smooth, if my furniture wasn't damaged I could look past him trying to raise the price on me and pay what I was quoted. The fact is my new furniture is damaged and I feel something should be done. read more

This is the worst mover I have ever used. The started loading and then I was told they needed the deposit in cash. Big red flag. The the deposit he wanted was about 90% of the estimate. I told him i would give him half. When they were almost done unloading at the new house, they stopped with some large pieces of furniture and said I had to pay the remainder, which was about 50% more than the estimate. I called the movers office and he gave me a song and dance about why it costs more, which was total BS. At this point I had no choice but to pay the new amount to get the rest of my furniture. read more

So you understand if I went into my move with A Mills from Chicago to Minneapolis with some hesitation. These guys blew me out of the water. They were absolutely fantastic. They were well priced, on time, efficient, charismatic, careful, and after all is said and done, I can happily say that they were trustworthy. Well, it's taken some time to get to this. I am a city girl, born and raised in Chicago. My husband and I purchased a condo in Willowbrook and prepared for the move of our furniture and clothes. We contacted this company for a price quote, spoke to Roland. The price we were quote was a little higher but we were promised they would handle everything and we could move on a Sunday...yes Sunday. I am so impressed with this company and how Roland operates. They arrived at my place with a 6 man team, 2 inside, 2 outside and 2 in the truck. Every piece of my furniture was taken apart, wrapped in blankets, cardboard and shrink wrapped. Our clothes were hung in wardrobe boxes. The unloading at the new place went much faster, we now had 4 men unloading. They put all my furniture together. Moved the furniture where I wanted it, moved it again because I decided I didn't like it there. Felt pads were placed on the bottom of all my furniture to prevent scratching. My clothes were hung in the closet nice and neat. Roland delivered much more than promised. If you are looking for movers please consider them. We had such a wonderful experience. We found A Mills Van Lines through the better business bureau, based on their good standing we choose to use them for our move. We expected good service and what we got was great service!! The crew showed up on time and worked hard. Everyone was so polite and eager to go the extra mile to make our move easy. We have moved a few times and usually ask our friends to help. This time we couldn't ask them again one year later, even though the movers was an extra expense, we feel it was money well spent. We all know moving is hectic, plus we are trusting all we own in the world to our movers. I moved on May 18, 2019. I received several calls makn sure we had the right time and date before the move. They were on time, and started working quickly. I did have more then they expected, so it took longer, but they worked very hard and never took a break. I had a lot more things they needed to pack then originally planed and they handled it all with no complaints. All the guys were so friendly and cheerful. This group made my move as pleasant as possible. Of course the total was more then the quote, but I have moved before and its very difficult to estimate so I wasn't shocked. I had lots of glass cabinets, glass table tops and shelving with glass, large mirrored wall unit, and all arrived in perfect condition. They even waited and moved things to a different spot until I was happy with where it fit best. Only one item was damaged, a crack in my dresser mirror. I called about it and received many apologies and Roland told me to get it fixed and send him the bill. When I called the office Brenda said just give her my address, hey didn't need the bill. They are wonderful people and all the guys that moved us did a fabulous job, they worked very hard. I had used them 24 years ago and they still are as good as they were then. I had recommend them to my sister, and she was happy with them too. There are so many movers to choose from and its very scary trying to find someone you can trust. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency and care of this moving company. In January I hired 4 men and was concerned because I have alot of fragile furniture. However they took great care wrapping everything w/ multiple blankets and wraps. I have alot of glass tabletops and not one was even scratched and they used great care in wrapping them up. The crew was really a well oiled machine and quickly moved all my things out of my Chicago place and into my west suburban home. The price was very reasonable for the skill and speed at which they moved me. I had called around and although some movers were a tad cheaper...i just really got a bad vibe from them/others over the phone like they were hard selling me/low balling. Roland came over for a bit and even made sure that everything was taken care of. But really the guys there seemed to know what they were doing. I was so impressed I ordered some carryout for the guys to take with them . I am surprised at some of the negative comments on this site...as seems like they couldn't have hired the same company as I did.I will definitely refer others to them. read more
