Berna Moving & Storage is the very definition of unprofessional, unreliable, unreasonable and disrespectful. After providing detailed specifics of my move (including an itemized spreadsheet with the sizes of my 20 items to be moved and specifics of the 4 fragile items that required special care) and a two discussions with Tom Berna (the owner), we agreed to the job and he set me a signed and dated agreement. His quote was higher than others, but as I told him, I had heard good things about his company and I wanted to hire someone that was reputable whom I could trust to do the job. The day before my scheduled move, I contacted him via email to confirm, and his office girl called me back. Based on what she told me I had questions about the rate (which was different from my signed contract) and she said Tom Berna would call me back to clarify. When he called me back I wasn't upset, nor was I complaining, but I shared with him that I wanted to make sure that I understood the terms of our agreement (which is totally normal). Based on previous experience with less reputable movers, it was my intent to not have any surprises the day of the move (which is why I hired Berna Moving in the first place). Almost immediately he became belligerent and disrespectful to me as we reviewed the itemized charges in the contract because as he put it, he "forgot to add those charges to the contract". He was starting to get angry and was spinning at this point (and I was having a very difficult time trying to make sense of what was going on), but I stayed calm and collected because it was 24 hours before my move and I still needed his services. I couldn't get a word in edge-wise and he flat out started raising his voice at me and blasting into the phone over and over again "You can forget it, I am not doing the job!" Needless to say, I was in total shock. This guy was being completely unreasonable and unprofessional and because of the extremely short notice and my desperation, I immediately went into recon mode by asking what it was going to cost to get the job done and then he accused me of "doing anything now that I wanted him to do the delivery." REALLY? I hadn't done anything wrong and here he was punishing me for his mistake. OF COURSE I wanted him to do the delivery, that is why I hired him in the first place! I would understand his hostility if I was being disrespectful to him or if I was being unreasonable (and who would blame me given the circumstances?), but that simply was not the case. I was keeping my emotions in check as that I was trying to make it work for both of us. My coworkers who overheard the entire conversation were completely shocked as well at what this guy did (and said to me), so I know that I am not the unreasonable one in this situation. So while Tom Berna drew up an agreement to do the job, signed and dated it, he pulled out at last minute, even though I was willing to work with him (and I think he was irritate over something like a $100 charge!). EPIC fail on the behalf of Berna Moving & Storage Inc. and Tom Berna. It's unfortunate, but you simply cannot trust this guy or his company! What kind of business reneges on a signed agreement at the last minute anyhow?!? Completely ridiculous and sad that I even have to write this review. read more
