So, after a lot of looking around and calling different companies my family decided to use Move Assist. It was SUCH a good choice! We looked and called a lot of movers, some of which wanted a list of every piece of furniture and the dimensions of all the rooms!! I called up Move Assist, Mark the owner answered the phone, I gave him the general amount of furniture and other stuff we wanted to move the date and they have quotes on their website so you can get an idea of the prices. Plus you can provide the truck or they can. They arrived, surveyed the apartment and got to work, how they managed to fit everything into that truck I will never know but they did! And really fast too! They made sure to wrap up out delicate furniture and make sure our glass doors were safe. Brought our stuff up to the 2nd floor (at no extra charge!) and put it just where we wanted it. They were a third of the cost of a large moving company!! And very funny and polite, really really great guys! I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a great moving service at a great price. Thanks guys!!! read more

We hired Move Assist based on some reviews from another website, because we didn't want the expense and hassle of a big moving company. Their idea is a good one: you rent the truck, they do the work. The move cost us less than half what it would have cost through a large co. Granted we had done a lot of the prep work and all the packing etc, but they came and moved all the boxes and furniture from our old home and storage to our new house. It was well worth it. Mark is the owner, he is responsive and courteous. He brought an assistant who was equally pleasant. They arrived exactly on time and, all in all, it was a great moving experience. They're still in startup mode, but Mark and his guys have years of experience moving. We will recommend them to people for sure. read more

I had a negative experience with Move Assist and am sharing so that others don't make the same mistake I did by hiring them. I too saw the Living Social deal during December, and booked two of Mark's movers for Sat Jan 4. The rate was reasonable and Mark was responsive. Fast forward to Jan 4 - my stepmom passed away out of state unexpectedly three days before the move, so on the morning of Jan 4, I called Mark to tell him that my husband would be supervising the move. Mark let me know that his movers were running an hour late, which was understandable. They took longer than the expected time, which put my husband into Ohio too late to unload, and he had to reschedule the unloaders on THAT end. Again, I understand that the time quote is just that, an estimate. Here is my issue. I assumed that the movers work for Move Assist, but everyone should know, they do NOT; and Mark is NOT responsible for their damage. My husband said the movers were very nice, but they cracked my bedroom wall literally right in front of him, and said they were sorry. No big deal right, the wall can be fixed. Then when my dresser mirror was unwrapped in Ohio (our new home), a chunk of the wood was missing. When my husband called to report the two items damaged, Mark did not respond. I then called Mark, and he asked for pictures. Two days went by with no response, and when I texted (Mark prefers texting, not phone calls by the way), he informed me that his business hours ended at 7pm and not to text him. Ok - then be professional and pick up your phone during business hours. The next day, he texted to say that he'd 'spent hours investigating my claims' and that he could not find his movers responsible. I understand the broken dresser mirror (they definitely broke it - but hey, how do I prove that) - but the wall?! They literally cracked it IN FRONT of my husband, apologized right then, then denied it a few days later. WOW. I fixed the wall myself and it wasn't detrimental, but it's frustrating to hire professionals and have them damage things. Mark said if they were responsible, the money would come right out of their paycheck...ummm duh, when I mess up at work, I'm held accountable, so why shouldn't they? But here's what I want everyone to know: - Mark said I could take up my claims for damage directly with the movers, and that he is "just a 3rd party that would charge them accordingly and remit the payment" to me. MOVE ASSIST IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE- he sent this to me directly in text. He then refused to give me their phone numbers, and instead gave me two addresses on the South Side of Chicago. It's 2014, not 1984 - without an email address or phone number, what am I supposed to do? - What I was EXTREMELY upset about is that Mark claims I called him from out of state on Jan 4, AFTER the move, TO IMMEDIATELY ABSOLVE HIS MOVERS OF RESPONSIBILITY. WTF?! I was at the funeral and there was NO call made that afternoon.The fact that he would blatantly LIE about me calling him from a visitation/funeral is so disgusting and unprofessional. He said someone called from my phone to say the damage was forgiven and that "maybe it was your sister." Unbelievable. My husband's sister did call him from Chicago (from a different phone, NOT mine) after the move to say that her cell phone was stolen during the move. She did NOT call him to say hey, totally fine that your movers cracked a wall and furniture. P.s. that the phone never turned up and we don't know who stole it. Mark said the damage is 'he said she said' (via text) and that I can take the movers to small claims court. I'm just a young professional in Chicago that wants him to fix what was broken. Lesson learned - don't hire movers with coupons, and don't hire a company that will not be responsible for their movers when they cause damage. Was the damage awful? No. Were the rates too high? No. But to have a death in the family, followed by the movers making up a story about absolving them of the damage - sickening and ill-timed. Now, here's where Mark will reply and deny his unprofessionalism, deny the damage, and his lie about the phone call on the day of the funeral to forgive the damage. ~ Kelly read more

After getting quotes from several moving companies, we came across Move Assist which caught our eye due to its relatively low hourly rate. We rented a UHaul truck for the move. We had planned for an early afternoon move and received an email from Mark (the owner) that the start time would be delayed 2 hours. When the guys finally showed up, they were apologetic and started right to work. I have to say that they were exceedingly courteous and hard working and did a fantastic job of packing the truck -that is the reason for the 2-star rating rather than 1-star. So here's the reason why I was disappointed. I moved from a 900-sq ft condo without additional storage and had done some serious purging prior to the move. The night before the move with MoveAssist, my friend and I moved about a quarter of our stuff to the new place in 2 hours -new place was only 5 minutes away. I expected that the move would take 4 or even 5 hours for the rest of the stuff (also, from online research, this seems to be the average estimate for a 2-BR condo). I was horrified when it actually took 7 hours. And, for 4 out of these 7 hours, my other friend and I were literally carrying boxes alongside the movers just to bring the move to an end. FYI, I had taken care of all the packing. When I voiced my concern to Mark that the move had taken longer than (what I considered to be) a reasonable time frame, he stated that moving times are hard to predict and that if I did not want to pay as much, I should have dismissed the movers earlier. Can't argue with that. When I asked for an adjustment of our invoice in view of the 2-hour delayed start that made it so that we could not sleep in our house that night, he said that this is how things go in the moving industry. I certainly hope this is not universally true. I was finally offered a 5-dollar credit given the fact a dolly was not provided for the move as advertised. Our total bill (including UHaul truck rental) ended up matching a competitor's quote that we had presumed to be a higher priced alternative. In conclusion, the guys were great, positive, hardworking, and they got the unwieldy furniture moved in. However, this turned out to be 7 hours of stress and hard work. I am not sure that I even saved money doing things this way. Finally, a reasonable concession on the bill (especially in view of the late start) would have gone a long way. Fo me, it would have demonstrated a commitment to quality of service and customer satisfaction and perhaps would have had me recommending the service to friends. I am happy for those who have had a positive experience with MoveAssist. I wish I could count myself among them. read more

Hired Move Assist through a Living Social deal. $100 for two hours. They sent Edward and Andrew to help us on our move day. Edward was a natural leader,suggesting better ways to pack our truck and orchestrating a "train" that moved our stuff into our new apartment quickly and with minimal walking for all of us. In our follow-up conversation with the owner, Mark, he even found an added fee that wasn't necessary, and returned the appropriate funds. He went above and beyond to take care of us. I won't hesitate to book Move Assist again, the next time I have a big move coming up. read more

I recently moved from indiana to illinois and realized after packing that I would not be able to take all this stuff up three flights of stairs. I talked to mark on very short knotice and fairly late, and was willing to help. They helped me out so much and my furniture wasnt easy. The stamina and strength on a hot day in a hot stairwell on short knotice and the professional fast service is unbelievable. I canot praise these guys and company enough. Will definatly recomend them to everyone. 10 stars!! read more

Uhm... yeah.... these guys did not get the job done. Literally. I booked a few weeks in advance, but the day before the move - even though I had requested movers and a truck, I was told that there would be no truck. THE DAY BEFORE. I was told I would have to get my own truck and they would load/unload it but would not drive it. To some people this may not seem like a huge deal, as Uhauls are easy enough to book on short notice, but I am terrified of the idea of driving a huge van full of my belongings through the city. It is one of the main reasons why I hire movers in the first place. I don't have a car, so I very rarely drive in the first place. I asked if I provided a van, if someone could drive, and the guy on the phone said he "wasn't sure about that" but he "didn't think so". Yeah, well I'm not sure that I want to support your business practices anymore either. HORRIBLE If you don't have a truck, then don't tell me that I can book movers AND a truck because it will just end poorly for everyone. thankfully I did find another moving company on short notice that did the job for almost 100 less than the estimate that this company gave me. read more

I had a very positive experience with Move Assist. Called them up, got a quote, and set up a move date. Day before, I received a confirmation phone call. Next day, 2 movers showed up on time, with all the required equipment. They were extremely polite and professional at all times. They moved our furniture and boxes - including up 2 flights of stairs - quickly and carefully. Price was exactly as quoted. I picked this company because they had good reviews and good rates, but when they showed up they were late, unprofessional, didn't have a contract, and when it was all done they tried to charge me almost $200 more than what they quoted me as a worst case scenario. They took there dear sweet time, to the point that I was getting annoyed by how long it was taking and finally started moving items myself to help speed it up. The owner was on the phone 95% of the time as well. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I would not recommend using this company. You get what you pay for and I learned my lesson the hard way. read more

First and foremost the 2 gentlemen who Mark sent to help me load a 800 sqft pod were extremely efficient, polite, helpful, knowledgeable about how to "tetris-ize" a small space with LOTS of stuff!! They were so helpful I have booked them again for the final truck loading. Secondarily, I have read through a few of the posts and a little disappointed at some of the expectations... If you haven't hired movers before or not moved often enough to remember the pain of the last move... you really don't know what to expect so make sure you ask questions, take notes, do as much as you can to stage & mark your stuff PRIOR to the movers arriving! You can't be putting things in boxes the day the movers arrive! It's true, loading takes longer than expected but that's because they are the professionals and take the time & care to pack/load truck properly and efficiently for transport, there are always additional costs such as tape, pads, that sticky shrink wrap stuff, etc... that you didn't plan for likely cuz you didn't know that that stuff even existed but again, they are the pros and know how to do this. Lastly, if you haven't had the movers come onsite to eyeball/analyze your place to provide a time/size estimate then they really have nothing to go on until they get there. Bottom line if you want to pay the price of family to move your stuff... then hire family! If you want the job done right, especially loading a truck that's going across town or across country then I recommend these guys since they know how to load efficiently to get all your stuff into the space as well as load balance the truck for transport!! These guys are great! Hardworking, friendly and they won't let you down. We had a local move but it was complicated: picked up in one town, two drops offs in different towns, lots of big heavy furniture. They never complained and they got the job done. I'll definitely hire them again! read more
