I'm gonna say that again, an entire one bedroom apartment worth of furniture on an 8" flatbed truck from Home Depot from TWO different storage locations 20 minutes apart, then another 20 minutes to my new place, all within 2 hours. And they did it with confidence, professionalism, and positivity, without stressing at all. Unbelievable. I booked Gonzalo and Windy City Helpers again for a move this weekend and they completely bailed on me 30 minutes before the move!!! I scheduled the move with Gonzalo a week and a half beforehand, then followed up with text to confirm. Didn't hear anything. Called him the day of the move and he verbally confirmed that the they would be there. I texted him a question, no response, so I called his line again and was told by another colleague that they hadn't actually booked my move, that they didn't have enough movers to staff it, and that they wouldn't be able to help me. I was in shock and left in a horrible position of moving day with no movers. No apology or aknolwedgement from Gonzalo. If you value reliability, good communication, and movers who SHOW UP, do not book with Windy City Helpers. Very disappointed. read more

I used Windy City Helpers to help move my daughter from one apartment to another in Chicago during the the week of Thanksgiving 2020. Be aware that they do not supply the moving truck or vehicle, but do supply the labor to help with the move. I did not realize this until the helpers showed up in a mid sized sedan! Fortunately and luckily I had my 2003 Honda Odyssey mini-van which we used to make the move, although it took several trips back and forth from the old apartment to the new one. The two helpers that showed up were fantastic. They were knowledeable, friendly, and understood great customer service. Very refreshing. They understood the area and were able to adapt, improvise, and overcome any obstacles. I would not hesitate to use them again, knowing now in advance to supply the truck! read more

We had an incredible experience with Windy City Helpers. We had a Ubox from U-Haul, which Windy City Helpers picked up and brought to our condo to fill and take back to U-Haul. They were responsive and communicative, calling to confirm the move date and time, then to confirm when they were on their way to pick up the UBox, then again to let me know when they were around the corner. They arrived promptly and cordially, ready to work. The team was awesome, rolled with all the punches of a move and solved problems before I knew we had them. They worked... I would highly recommend Windy City Helpers for anyone moving in Chicago. I packed up a u-haul u-box container in Michigan and had it shipped to a Chicago u-haul storage facility. I was concerned with logistics of getting it to my apartment and Windy City Helpers came to the rescue! They picked it up for me, unloaded it into my apartment, and returned the u-box container all for a very reasonable price. They communicated ahead of time to confirm date and time and called the day of with an accurate ETA. My crew even put my bed frame and headboard together for me. I called windy city helpers 2 days in advance and schedule a 1pm appointment. The helpers were to come help me move my belongings from my storage unit, to a uhaul. The day before the move the appointment was confirmed, and I told the guy on the other line to please be on time, because I was driving all the way back to California, and wanted to be on the road at a certain time. So this is where the BS begins...1pm I get a call stating the guys would be running 20mins late that they were finishing up an appointment right around the corner from me. I'm like okay no big deal my cousin and I will just move out what we can. 20mins past still no movers...call back guy tells me 30mins more. Now I'm pissed, but I am staying calm... now it's 2:15 and no one is there...damn shame. Another moving company just happens to show up to move someone else belongings into storage, and once they finished they helped me out, and had all my belongings in the truck in no time. read more

I'm a property manager, and some of my tenants in a downtown high-rise used Windy City Helpers to move about 2 weeks ago. According to my tenants, they did a great job, as far as getting the move done quickly and professionally. Unfortunately, the movers damaged one of the hallways during the move (a dent in the drywall and scuffed the paint). It was obviously an accident, and accidents happen to everyone. The damage to the wall was $90 to have repaired, so I brought it to the attention of Gonzalo from Windy City Helpers. Gonzalo bent over backwards to immediately send us a check to cover the $90 in damage, and apologized for the inconvenience. NOTE TO GONZALO: No need to apologize...Accidents happen, and you and your company handled this situation with the utmost professionalism. As a property manager, I have experienced and witnessed many instances of very unprofessional moving companies, so it's always a pleasure to work with a company like yours. Seriously a wonderful experience. I called other companies with great reviews on yelp and they were wishy washy or did not call back when they said they did. A friend told me about them and they were spot on! Great job. I flew in from Marina del Rey, CA to move things into storage. They were on time. Very professional and were not expensive in fact I was impressed with The pricing. The two guys who came packed up the truck didn't waste time and even helped pack things including a large glass table top. It was a wonderful experience. They confirmed the night before and also in the morning which made it clear I was a priority and eased my mind as my flight is due to leave soon. I played phone tag with these guys for over a week. I recommend paying a little extra and getting people who actually respond to messages. On two occasions, I spoke to Gonzalo who asked me to text my name and address to him but they just don't have a system to confirm my appointment. Update to my original review - They came through on the set appointment date and were quick and efficient. The rate includes three guys who were quick to wrap and move my items from my condo to a storage unit. Windy City had both the highest rating and the cheapest price. Gonzalo was fantastic! Very professional and friendly. His team worked quickly, but they didn't just throw my stuff in the UBox. I can't recommend Windy City Helpers enough for their excellent service. I had to hire them on a short notice and they were available in just over an hour, on a Saturday. Charlie, Edgar and one more helper, unloaded a 15 feet Uhaul truck within an hour, brought all the stuff to 4th floor, no elevator, and mind you my queen-size Hastens bed is heavy!!! The crew was on time, very friendly, polite, they were efficient, professional, stacked my boxes neat, kept boxes off freshly painted wall, did their job very clean. Price was reasonable too. I found a sofa being sold online for a needy family I know. It needed to be picked up same day. I was very lucky that Gonzalo agreed to pick it up and move it that evening, this past Sunday. He said 6pm, but when I hadn't heard from him by 6:20, I got into my car to purchase the sofa. He finally responded, asking to push the job to the next morning. I informed him that the seller was not able to wait and Gonzalo very graciously offered his own sofa (not necessary, but certainly appreciated) and I cancelled my other purchase. He messaged me on Monday saying that he could move the sofa that evening and then I never heard from him again. I have sent a few text messages, called and tried to leave a message, but the mailbox is full. Offering his own sofa was very nice, but at this point, any response, even just to move something, would be appreciated. He made a point when cancelling to say that he felt badly for not coming through for me. With all the good reviews here, I really wanted to like this company. I try to support local businesses and they seem like nice people. It's very disappointing that Gonzalo has not been in contact at all and has, seemingly, left me high and dry. Found Gonzalo and his guys listed as loaders on Budget's website. The big moving companies were quoting really high prices and telling me it would take 5 to 10 days for the moving truck to reach our new home. We were moving out of a 4 bedroom in Chicago (6 hours away to Minnesota). Windy City Helpers saved me nearly $2k. They started loading in Chicago 11AM on Monday and I was all moved into my new place by 1PM the next day Tuesday! They were polite, fast and trustworthy. Things to know... - Gonzalo is a busy guy and has a lot of appointments. Even though you text/email your info he might call a few times and ask you for it again. - They were a little bit late but it actually helped us out because we weren't ready. - Meet Gonzaolo at the rental truck company the morning of the move. That way you and the driver can register with the rental company. Then they will drive the truck to your house. - It is good to have LOTS of packing tape and blankets ready on moving day. I'd suggest at least 24 blankets and 15 rolls a tape for a 4 bedroom apartment. - We had a few things left to pack. They were happy to wrap it up and chuck it in a box but, as far as I can tell, their main gig is loading / unloading. Bottom line, have your stuff packed and ready to go when they arrive. If you have something fragile, wrap it and pack it yourself. - We were told there would be 3 guys to load and 3 guys to unload. Instead, there were 4 guys each time (including the two drivers). I had water, Gatorade and snickers in the fridge for the guys. We tipped everybody and we also gave them some $ for lunch. - Finally, for a long drive, don't forget to give them $ for gas. read more

I booked these guys through U-Haul and they are great. I have used them twice now and they got me out of my current 1BR and into my new 1BR 15min away in just under 2 hours total. Both times they have come with an extra guy as well. Never any damage to my furniture and they got my couch out much easier than when the furniture company delivered it. I HIGHLY recommend Gonzalo and Gabe fromo Windy City Helpers. I booked them as an add-on when i rented a u-haul truck. They were very fast, careful, professional, and trustworthy, and best of all, their rates are absolutely reasonable. They even went over their allotted 2-hour timeslot by about 30 minutes, just to make sure the job was done right, and didn't charge extra. I'm not sure that this will always be the case, but they got major extra credit for it in my book. I have never had a move go better/easier than expected before, but honestly this one did, and these guys are a huge reason for that. read more

Tony, Gonzalo and Ben were perfect. They were 10 minutes late but called ahead. Wrapped all furniture in blankets and worked very efficiently to load the entire one bedroom apartment into a UHaul in under an hour. They ensured that everything was packed safely and securely into the truck. After a 13 hour drive, we opened up the truck and everything was intact, right where they had packed it. I don't think we could have found any one more professional or friendly. When we got to Chicago these guys were on time and ready to work! As in any downtown location you have to reserve the elevator for moving in and out. Naturally another person was running behind and impeding on our elevator time. Great experience with Windy City Helpers!! My boyfriend and I moved from a townhouse in Lincoln Park to a 1 bedroom in River North. The townhouse was on the 4th floor with no elevator and narrow steps but Gonzalo and his team had our furniture all packed up quickly and efficiently. We didn't think all of our furniture would fit in the UHaul we rented, but thanks to their expert packing skills there was room to spare. The move itself start to finish lasted under 2 hours. I asked if this was Windy City Movers, he said yes then continued talking to other people not to me on the phone. I said hello again. He said yes?! I said I would like to get an estimate for a local move and he said "Right now, I'm at $80/hr for two professional movers." I asked him to repeat that. He hung up on me! I booked Windy City Helpers via http://movinghelp.com and was pleased that they called immediately after I booked/paid online to confirm and set up a time. They also called the night before to confirm - which ended up concerning me more than anything, since the first question was "What time did we decide on?" The next morning, we had literally just finished packing the final box when they were supposed to arrive, at 9 a.m. By 9:20, no one had showed, so I tried calling the individual who confirmed with me the night before. No answer, straight to voicemail. Luckily I was able to find another number for Ben, who I called and explained the situation, and he called me back once he had spoken to the movers, who said they were on their way..................At 10:05, they arrived, and neither of the movers were the ones who I had confirmed the move with or spoken to on the phone. Lesson learned: Find out who will be your actual movers and get their phone numbers. To be fair, the two gentlemen who helped load and unload were very apologetic and downright embarrassed for being late, and they did an excellent job moving my items quickly and with care through the rain and over some halfway-melted snow and a gravel parking area covered in dog poo. I haven't seen any problems with my furniture or either my old or new places. In addition to being apologetic, they were also good businessmen and did not charge me for the time that it took over the pre-paid two hours (excluding the hour of tardiness). Because of the quality job they did, their friendliness, and the good business sense, I would consider using Windy City Helpers again. read more

I wanted to hug these guys and take them out to dinner after they got us out of our house, into our storage space in 2hours flat! Gonzalo and his crew were on top of everything! From the moment I made the reservation through U-haul the night before the move; to his follow up phone calls the same night (at 9pm. Who DOES that?) and the AM of the move; to getting to our house on time (if not early), they can not be beat-- hands down! We hired them for three hours (just in case) with 2 movers. I was moving out of state on July 16 and contacted Windy City to see if they could help load up everything packed from the apartment to my rental truck. I made the reservation two weeks in advance. I confirmed twice during those two weeks and was assured I was scheduled for 8:00 am on July 16. I lived in a high rise and had four hours to get everything into the truck. On the morning of the move by the time 8:20 rolled around I started to get nervous. I started calling and texting Gonzalo. No answer. No return text. By the time 8:40 rolled around, I started to panic. I'll spare you the rest of the nightmare that endured. I chose Windy City Helpers because of the many positive reviews, but I guess I was way too naïve. I've waited two days and I still haven't been contacted. Nothing. Zilch. Moving is by far one of the most stressful things a person can go through in life and I can't believe that I got stood up. Do yourself a favor and if you are moving, go through a reputable company who can provide you with a guarantee. Do not under any circumstances call this place. read more

Windy City Helpers was an awful moving experience. I would not recommend this service to anyone. I had booked the service for 8:30 am. They even called to confirm 8:30 am the night before. The day of, they were 2 hours late and did not bother to call me back until 10:00 am. I ended up having to move my furniture from my apartment to the truck and, they finally showed up to help unload.
