I don't know if it is the location that is off or if I never thought Nate's was that good. I remember liking the bagels at their first location, but here the bagels are tough and feel old. Also, did they always have an odd no-toast policy? How are they able to toast these pizza bagels, but can't toast a regular bagel? I think the pizza bagel is a good idea, but the one I was given had barely any sauce and cheese so it was too much bread. Everyone who works there is very nice, which is why I'm giving the 2 stars. Seating area is pretty limited too, just two small tables with a max seating of like 6.

Hands down 5 stars! This is one of the best bagel shops in…read morethe area based on shop space, cleanliness, service and food. It fit all the boxes. It is definitely a local favorite, so sometimes seating is a challenge just like parking. It happens to be in the small parking lot in Carytown where there are usually 6-7 cars ( Did you get it?) looking endlessly for a space or just blocking everyone else. You always have the option to just park on Cary Street. It is worth it. On this visit, we had to try the Lox Bagel Sandwich on an Asiago bagel which comes in this cute box that if you detach its corner, it can transform into a plate. You're welcome. Anyways, the fresh dill on it is good. I love how they make it into 2 open-faced bagels with the goods. Feels like you got a 2 for 1 deal. Worth a try. The next one was recommended by the cashier. I always ask for recommendation or what's popular. He said to try the Swiss Melt on an Asiago bagel. Wow! You don't even taste the onions because they're caramelized and paired with fig jam. Chef kiss. It has a sweetness to it, but not overpowering if that makes sense. The coffee is great and they have at least 3 flavors to try. Definitely coming back over and over again.

They have a plethora of flavors with our favorites a simple salted bagel and the rosemary salted bagel. The bagel sandwiches - specifically their breakfast sammies are definitely the way to go here and you can customize with add-ons and choice of cream cheeses. They have a wide selection of cream cheeses and seasonal varieties. The basic bagel and cream cheese combo here I find too heavy on the cream cheese almost off putting but I'm sure that's just my preference and probably could ask for light smear if wanted. Lines can get long on the weekends but service has always been very fast!!

As I entered, I noticed how welcoming the atmosphere was. It was so peaceful and calming and the staff just had such a welcome energy which is honestly hard to come by. She was so patient with my order, such great recommendations, and just such a nice vibe. She definitely needs a raise! I ordered 2 lox and cream, ol Virginia (I think that's the name) and 2 cold brews! These were for my friends minus one of the lox and cream. GOLLY, the lox and cream was so divine. Melts in your mouth, great smoky flavor. Everything was just perfect. Definitely will come back!

The inside of the store was old school setup with booths and a huge full service bar. 15 minutes within opening, the restaurant was full in capacity. The menu had lots of exciting brunch dishes, appetizers, salads, soups and deli section as well. There were plenty of cocktails, beer and wines choices available too. Prices were decent. I picked the Jewish Sailor that was a combo of toast with pastrami and beef sausage with red onion and mustard. When the dish came, it looked so scrumptious. Loved the flavor of the pastrami, the crunchy sausages, crispy toast bread, coleslaw all of it. I also got to try the pierogis that were delicious as well. The service was good overall. Our waitress was attentive, while managing several tables at the same time. The dishes came out quickly despite being busy. Overall the experience lived up to the expectations.

That's when I discovered that Baltik's Bagels in Richmond had won the People's Choice Award at that same BagelFest. I bookmarked it, forgot all about it, and then completely by coincidence I happened to drive right past it on my way home from DC. The first thing I noticed? This place was PACKED. It was a Saturday, so that's to be expected, but it's always a good sign when a restaurant is that busy. Actually, come to think of it, there wasn't even any parking left. I ended up parking over at the nearby Food Lion. Again, another good sign. I ordered the River City Sunrise with sausage, scrambled eggs, melted cheddar, scallion cream cheese, and normally it's served on their signature Everything SOFTIE™, their softer take on a traditional bagel that's made specifically for breakfast sandwiches. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the SOFTIE bagels when I visited, which honestly made me a little nervous because I've bitten into some hockey puck bagels in my lifetime. I swapped it for a jalapeño cheddar bagel instead and added chipotle mayo for a little razzle dazzle. BABY. When I took that first bite back in my car, that was THEE best bagel breakfast sandwich I've ever had in my life. The bagel had the perfect chew without being tough, the eggs were fluffy, the sausage was flavorful, and that chipotle mayo tied everything together perfectly. Thank God I don't live nearby because I'd be here EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. before work. Another thing I loved was the self serve coffee bar. You can make your own hot or iced coffee exactly how you like it with regular or oat milk and a variety of flavors and sweeteners. It was the perfect pick me up before finishing the second half of my drive from DC back to Hampton Roads. All in all, Baltik's Bagels absolutely lived up to the hype. After eating there, I completely understand why they won the People's Choice Award at the 2025 New York BagelFest. If you're anywhere near Richmond, do yourself a favor and make the stop. Just don't expect to find easy parking because that crowd is there for a reason.

Unfortunately, there wasn't even a changing table available. Instead, I was stopped and loudly reprimanded by a large, intimidating male employee in front of a line full of customers because I had apparently "used the wrong door" and "skipped the line." When I explained that I needed to use the restroom before ordering, I was told I should have used the other entrance -- despite the fact that the door I was directed toward had a clearly posted sign saying "Please Use Other Door." The entire interaction was humiliating and completely unnecessary. No customer, especially a mother carrying a baby, should be publicly shamed over something so minor and confusing. To make matters worse, the bathroom itself was filthy. Even if I had attempted to change my daughter on the floor due to the lack of a changing station, it would have felt unsanitary and unsafe. Businesses love to say they support women and families, but too often mothers are treated like an inconvenience the moment they actually need basic accommodation and decency.
