I've eaten here twice: one wait at counter for prep, one order ahead for pickup. The way your order gets in their system is CRITICAL! The order of bacon and scrambled eggs on a bagel put in at the counter and waited on netted me a delicious bagel with deliciously soft scrambled eggs and bacon that was unevenly cooked but completely edible. The order done ahead online through Toast got me the same bagel and marginally better cooked bacon, but the scrambled eggs came out of the refrigerator in the form of a pretty firm puck of scrambled egg. The resulting product tasted entirely different from the one I had ordered once I got there, which was about a 15 minute wait, if that. It was so disappointing that I threw half of it in the trash. Order in = 5 star. Order ahead = 1 star. My lesson for today: DO NOT ORDER AHEAD for Baltik's Bagels. You're welcome. P.S. I have added a star to my second review because the response to my complaint received immediate serious attention. The second bagel was still one star. Funny enough, I actually heard about Baltik's Bagels while I was in Spain at Si Si Bagels. The owner told me they had won 3rd place in the "Best International" category at New York BagelFest 2025. I had no idea there was even a BagelFest in NYC, so naturally I looked it up. That's when I discovered that Baltik's Bagels in Richmond had won the People's Choice Award at that same BagelFest. I bookmarked it, forgot all about it, and then completely by coincidence I happened to drive right past it on my way home from DC. The first thing I noticed? This place was PACKED. It was a Saturday, so that's to be expected, but it's always a good sign when a restaurant is that busy. Actually, come to think of it, there wasn't even any parking left. I ended up parking over at the nearby Food Lion. Again, another good sign. I ordered the River City Sunrise with sausage, scrambled eggs, melted cheddar, scallion cream cheese, and normally it's served on their signature Everything SOFTIE™, their softer take on a traditional bagel that's made specifically for breakfast sandwiches. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the SOFTIE bagels when I visited, which honestly made me a little nervous because I've bitten into some hockey puck bagels in my lifetime. I swapped it for a jalapeño cheddar bagel instead and added chipotle mayo for a little razzle dazzle. BABY. When I took that first bite back in my car, that was THEE best bagel breakfast sandwich I've ever had in my life. The bagel had the perfect chew without being tough, the eggs were fluffy, the sausage was flavorful, and that chipotle mayo tied everything together perfectly. Thank God I don't live nearby because I'd be here EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. before work. Another thing I loved was the self serve coffee bar. You can make your own hot or iced coffee exactly how you like it with regular or oat milk and a variety of flavors and sweeteners. It was the perfect pick me up before finishing the second half of my drive from DC back to Hampton Roads. All in all, Baltik's Bagels absolutely lived up to the hype. After eating there, I completely understand why they won the People's Choice Award at the 2025 New York BagelFest. If you're anywhere near Richmond, do yourself a favor and make the stop. I've had Baltik's three times so far, and all were positive experiences. The first two times, we were provided free bagels as part of resident events at my apartment building. Both times I tried the Smokeshow, despite not being a pepper or spice person. It was sooo good each time; very minimal kick at all. More recently, last weekend I roped my boyfriend into visiting (essentially bribed him with bagels if he'd go to a cat event at Furbish with me ha). Despite the icy conditions, the place was still bopping. They were efficient though, with lots of folks behind the counter husting, so it didn't take long to get our bagels. My boyfriend ordered the Smokeshow and deemed it his favorite Richmond bagel. I switched it up and ordered the River City Sunrise, which comes on an everything softie. It was so unbelievably good!! Tried Baltik's Bagel for the first time and overall it was a good experience. I had the Smokeshow without bacon since I'm vegetarian, and it was delicious. The chipotle sauce was amazing and really made the sandwich. We also tried the River City Sunrise with bacon, which was tasty too. The bagels are soft, which I know is the style, but I would have preferred them toasted more for some crunch. The eggs were soft and flavorful, though a little on the undercooked side for me. I just wanted a bit more texture. One downside was that they were out of taters, which was disappointing since that's what we were most excited to try. We ended up with chips instead, but the bag was tiny and didn't feel worth it. On the bright side, the freshly squeezed orange juice was everything...so refreshing and delicious. We went through the drive thru, which is such a convenient option, and there was no line when we arrived. The employee at the window was super friendly and welcoming. It was designed to look like a tomato. There is nothing I love more than cute looking food AND tasty food. This bagel met all the marks. New fav bagel spot! My boyfriend and I love all the delicious bagel spots in RVA and Baltik's is a great new addition and may even be the best one. They have a variety of bagels and even have gluten free and vegan options. I really enjoyed their gluten free bagel with herb vegan cream cheese. It was still one of the best bagels I ever had even with all the dietary restrictions! My boyfriend loved the Smokeshow Bagel. It was made with their specialty Softie bagel which was super soft while still being hearty and crispy. I definitely recommend you try this place out if you're looking for a delicious, laid back brunch or lunch spot. Order online to skip the line but if you order in shop, they will have your order ready quickly. Honestly, the closest to a genuine NY bagel I've had in Richmond. The sandwich (River City Sunrise) was flavorful with crispy bacon and delicious eggs. At the moment it's a little chaotic with the construction but once that's over, they have a great parking lot and a drive thru window. Both bagels were fresh and tasty -- we kept it simple this time since it was our first visit. They also have a drive-thru and the option to order ahead, which is super convenient. Since I discovered this lil gem on Forest Hill Avenue, I've been so very much enjoying stopping by for a delicious lunch! I am all about an Everything bagel, and love me some avocado mash / guac, and look forward to trying any number of their (many) options in the near future!
