My wife and I stopped here while walking through Carytown. We had been trying bagel places around Richmond and really hadn't found anything considered 'good' to this point. We got their sourdough blueberry, sourdough Asiago, and rosemary and salt with vegan cream cheese. It was delicious. Bagels were light, yet had that perfect dense, chewiness you expect from a bagel. Vegan spread was so good, you couldn't tell it wasn't a rich, creamy cream cheese. Yes, it is a little pricey for a bagel, but you're in Carytown....they live in a different reality when it comes to food prices. Hands down 5 stars! This is one of the best bagel shops in the area based on shop space, cleanliness, service and food. It fit all the boxes. It is definitely a local favorite, so sometimes seating is a challenge just like parking. It happens to be in the small parking lot in Carytown where there are usually 6-7 cars ( Did you get it?) looking endlessly for a space or just blocking everyone else. You always have the option to just park on Cary Street. It is worth it. On this visit, we had to try the Lox Bagel Sandwich on an Asiago bagel which comes in this cute box that if you detach its corner, it can transform into a plate. You're welcome. Anyways, the fresh dill on it is good. I love how they make it into 2 open-faced bagels with the goods. Feels like you got a 2 for 1 deal. Worth a try. The next one was recommended by the cashier. I always ask for recommendation or what's popular. He said to try the Swiss Melt on an Asiago bagel. Wow! You don't even taste the onions because they're caramelized and paired with fig jam. One of my favorite bagel spots in RVA! Always tastes fresh with the perfect outer crust and chewy/soft interior. They have a plethora of flavors with our favorites a simple salted bagel and the rosemary salted bagel. The bagel sandwiches - specifically their breakfast sammies are definitely the way to go here and you can customize with add-ons and choice of cream cheeses. They have a wide selection of cream cheeses and seasonal varieties. The basic bagel and cream cheese combo here I find too heavy on the cream cheese almost off putting but I'm sure that's just my preference and probably could ask for light smear if wanted. I live around the corner so it's one of those neighborhood things you do, stopping by and get a bagel in the morning. And it's growing on me. I grew up eating NY bagels and it's still the one thing I do when I go back. Bagels outside of NY never seemed to do the job. So the idea of sourdough bagel was not what I expected. I visited Chuy's for my first time and was not disappointed. I went on a Sunday morning. It was packed! The line was to the door. I observed you're able to place an order at the register or do a mobile online pick up, the latter being the route I may take next time. As for this visit I was ready to order by the time I made it to the register. The lady who cashed me out was friendly. You're provided with a ticket that has your number and you just wait for it to be called. There were maybe 5-6 tables inside and a couple bistro tables outside, but I got my order to go as it was so busy. The bagel itself was phenomenal. I ordered the sea salt and rosemary bagel with scallion cream cheese. It was packed to the brim with cream cheese. My was around $5 dollars, but it so well worth it. You can tell the bread was fresh. I went on a Saturday around noon and there was a short line and wait. All the seating areas were filled. They sold out of maybe half the bagel options. They do have an online order option if you don't want to wait and/or risk your preference being sold out. I really liked the rosemary sea salt bagel with scallion cream cheese. I don't use rosemary often so it made me reminiscent of Thanksgiving. It was too chewy though until I toasted it. I didn't enjoy the breakfast sammie as much. It was extremely greasy and in the photo you can see the outer bagel is soaked in grease. Overall I will continue the search for a bagel to satisfy my NY craving but I also wouldn't be opposed to coming back. read more

The park is available on the street. Striking out on finding a brunch spot on a Sunday, we joined the line at Chewy's Bagels inside an Art Deco strip mall. After waiting 15 minutes, we ordered. Grabbing a small table inside, our bagels were ready within 10 minutes. Not bad for a busy morning! Their bagels are sourdough and very chewy. I've been wanting to try Chewy's for a long time now. All my friends love it and I've read/heard nothing but great reviews. Perhaps my expectations were too high? You can do this on their website. There is a good amount of seating inside and two tables outside. I enjoyed my first Chewy's experience outside. I ordered a poppy seed bagel with vegan cream cheese. As someone who is in denial about being lactose intolerant, I decided to be kind to my body and opt for a dairy free option. I highly recommend not getting the vegan cream cheese if you have problems with texture. I'm not one to be bothered by textures, but something about this vegan cheese really threw me off. It was a bit waxy and reminded me of a darker colored vaseline. It didn't sit well with me. I scrapped a lot of it off. And my bagel was a bit tough to eat. Since everyone I love is obsessed with Chewy's, I wanted to give them more than one chance. The next time I ordered takeout with their everything bagel and did their breakfast sammie with added bacon jam. This was so much better and I enjoyed it a lot more. I was concerned the bacon jam would be too sweet, but it was just right for me, especially since it was mixed with other things like cheese, egg, and the bagel. I think as a whole the breakfast sammie worked well. I'm happy to have finally tried this spot. It's in a great location for me. I love having places I can bike to.
