Hit up Nate's Bagels early one morning after a morning bike ride, and it honestly hit the spot; great post-workout meal. They've got a nice little outdoor seating area where you can chill and enjoy your food. Super casual, good vibes. I didn't sit down this time just grabbed my food to go but next time I definitely plan on sitting and soaking in everything. The inside looked nice too, clean and well put together. Parking can be a bit of a hassle, since it's all street parking. And this place gets busy fast. When I rolled up to pick up my food, there were tons of online order bags stacked up and people already waiting as soon as they opened. So if you're not ordering ahead, be ready for a tiny crowd just something to be mindful of if you're in a rush. That said, this is probably one of my favorite bagel spots right now. I'll definitely be back again soon.

Nate's Bagel has everything you need to start the day. It has many breakfast bagel options, coffee, orange juice and more. When you come in, it's not that big, but it serves its purpose. You go straight towards the back to put your order in and wait for your name to be called. The food is picked up on the counter by the door. That's also where all the to-go orders sit. The coffee is self-service and has a few syrups available. On this visit, I had the Banh Mi on a rosemary and salt bagel. It was delish! The pork belly was amazing! Great flavors combined. My husband had what he always had, the Lox with the Works in an everything bagel. It's got the lox, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions and capers. Wow! Both of these do not have eggs, but you can order others that do if that's your jam. There are 2 tables inside and outside and a long counter against the wall to sit. There is also an "All Gender" bathroom in the back. There are napkin dispensers throughout. Watch your step coming in and out. Overall, this place is great. I love coming here and enjoying my breakfast and coffee. There's a mix of customers, but mostly VCU and young people enjoy this little gem. It's walkable too, so you'll see people walking or riding their bike here. I definitely recommend this place. Also, they opened a new place in Scott's Addition. I haven't been there, but heard they sell pizza bagels.

What a great corner bagel shop! Visiting from D.C., it was packed on a Sunday morning in January. The counter had dozens of paper bags for online orders. I ordered a sesame bagel with one egg, country ham, herb aioli, pepper jelly, and American cheese. I LOVED it. The bagels are thick and chewy, just the way I like them. If you love bagels, stop by! Street parking is easy to find right out front.

Nate's Bagels - OMG - Best kept secret & it is NOT a secret!! Bustling & energy all over the place - A constant flow of people picking up bags of amazing bagel sandwiches and did I MENTION the RUGELACH!! SNEAK peek of the vibe! So where did Nate's come from you ask? Nate Mathews, a former engineer turned bagel-maker after experimenting with his own recipes. He started out as a POP UP SHOP - of course - lol. GOING to the source, he perfected his bagel-making traditions by studying the best!! (including New York/New Jersey) and refining a kettle-boiled, stone-baked bagel! All about a bagel with flavor, girth and just amount of crunch top. I LOVED the texture and taste!! Texture is important!!! Then BOOM - 2018 - Well here we are - W. Cary Street & S. Allen Ave in Richmond's Fan District! It's eclectic, energetic & an embodiment of Richmond - a fabulous, layered, complex and ever evolving river city. Bagel and city - robust, flavorful & textured!

I was just as skeptical as you probably are/were about the Breakfast Banh Mi, but coming here just to say it is freaking worth the try. Delicious, unique, and such a cool meld of flavors. So impressed that this somehow worked. See the pic for some eye candy!

First time here and their bagels are more on the bready side. If your like filling, thick bagels this is a good place for you. Not a lot of seating so it's more of a grab and go type of place. I got the lox and the works and it was a little light in the lox

First time at Nate's Bagels and it was worth the wait. It's a tight space inside with a never ending line of customers but the line moves quickly. Here are the highlights: **inclusive menu with options that lend themselves to all types of dietary needs which we enjoyed! **they give you the option to make your own bagel. ** They have tomato jam!!!! And it is GOOD **They have a make your own cold brew bar with milk options, syrup choices and ice!! **The pick up area is a mad house! There are orders galore which seem a little overwhelming, but the staff has it under control. ** They have seating inside but honestly I think shifting some if that seating outside would help with the flow of traffic. **over all I really loved my bagel. I got the Licx with an everything bag and a side of Tomato jam.

A great bagel restaurant near downtown Richmond! I went there two times during my two day visit to Richmond. Their bagels were huge (about 5-5.5 oz each), freshly baked and chewy. Their deli sandwich was delicious and very affordable, and they allow customers to DIY their sandwiches. Highly recommended to t

Order online. It becomes very cramped inside with everyone waiting in line or waiting for their food so you will likely not find a place to sit. If you order online, you can avoid the long wait in the small space. The bagels are good, ingredients fresh. A little on the expensive side. The breakfast bahn mi was tasty, I think I'll ask for less mayo next time because it did get a little messy.

Really good bagel. Super thick and really had to chow down but worth it. One of the top bagels I've had in Richmond. Had it 2 hours after picking it up and still great so that shows a lot. Only thing- I went back a couple days later and was confused by the chaos inside and wonder if you can order in store or only online.

Great freshly made bagels - they don't toast them here so just know that when you order.

Love how many options there are to choose from here! Don't be intimidated by the large number of pickup orders waiting on the counter when you first walk in - this place will get you in and out in under 10 mins! For my NJ natives, give their pork roll a try! Best bet you'll find around here!

This place seems to be a well oiled machine.. they appeared to have what I can only assume was 50 take out bags on the counter, and our orders still took less than 10 minutes. Got some just bagels with cream cheese and one egg and cheese. The bagels were solid and the cream cheese was delicious. DIY coffee situation which I can appreciate.. and their cold brew was pretty wonderful. I will note that the scooped bagel with cream cheese seemed to throw off the bread to spread ratio. Not the best bagels we've had but still a very strong bagel..would recommend!

    What is the Nate bagel?

Hi Anne B. It is the same ingredients of regular bagels only with egg added to mixture. Thanks for inquiring!

How does one order a bagel online and get it sliced only once with double the cream cheese? (Sorry, yelp only lets us ask 1 question so I had to delete the other after you answered)

I settled on the pistachio cream filled pecan pastry, the almond twist, and strawberry shortcake. The beverage menu was extensive: matcha, flavored teas, cocoa, espresso/coffee, and more. We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist. All were fresh. All in all, a great place to stop by for a morning pastry treat and tea/coffee while in the area,

It is fast casual - you order at the kiosk and grab a place to eat, listening for your number and/or text to alert you the food is ready. We arrived about 6pm on a Saturday night. It was busy and I grabbed one of the last two tables. It got very busy shortly after we placed our orders. The dining area is pretty big with plenty of bar seating around the windows. While we all ordered one after the other, our food didn't come out that way. Most of the food came out in about 25-30 minutes. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy! Two people got tenders and three of us got sandwiches. The OG sandwich was very good, just messy! I ended up using a fork and knife bc it got too messy. The Mac and cheese was made with pimento cheese and was very good. My friend who got the fried green tomatoes said they were delicious and filling. Lots of goodies on top. Two friends enjoyed the collards. The only person who was underwhelmed was the person who got the Asian sandwich. We walked in to find the staff bustling, cooking, and prepping orders, and the smell of some delicious fried chicken in the air. I saw the kiosks and was not too thrilled with the Wawa experience, but we gave it a shot anyway, since fried chicken is one of our favorites. The process was simple and allowed us to add or remove anything we could want, so that was nice. While walking to find a seat, we saw a person panhandling in the dining area, but the staff promptly removed him from the premises. I ordered us the Pimento Cheese Balls for an appetizer, and I chose the Fried Chicken and French Toast as my entree because I always try the "chicken and waffles" at every establishment that offers it. My partner ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich without tomato, and it came with crinkle-cut fries. It was about $40. The chef proclaimed our order was ready in quick succession, maybe three orders behind the guests before us. We waited about ten minutes, maybe fifteen at most. We picked up the orders from the counter, and there was a mix-up on the syrup, but the chef promptly rectified the situation. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy; straight to the point. He seemed firm, yet kind. It was clear the day had been a busy one; he even told us as much, which was great to hear (busy = fantastic food). The French toast squares looked like rye or pumpernickel, and they emitted a sweet aroma, a delightful hit of cinnamon and brown sugar. I drizzled the caramel syrup on my chicken and toast, sliced a piece, and paired a bite of chicken with the toast. I closed my eyes to savor the flavors: the toast was crunchy and almost gooey (yet, not overly so), the chicken was crunchy, the sweet cinnamon-y flavors from the toast, the caramel from the syrup, and the tender, moist chicken were a match made in culinary art. I cannot sufficiently describe the French toast in a way that would do it justice; it was crunchy and semi-gooey, and all scrumptious. I can only say it was the single best French toast that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Next, I tried the fried pimento cheese balls. Oh my. If you like mozzarella sticks, try these. I adored them: elevated fried cheese, for real. My partner enjoyed her sandwich as well; she ate everything except some of her fries. I saved half of my chicken and toast for today because I am like a treasure golem when it comes to delicious leftovers. I am going to air-fry the chicken and skillet-heat the toast back to its original goodness. I told the cooks that that was the best French toast that I have ever had, and I mean it. Do yourself a favor and try it if you're into French toast. This one is the GOAT. Side note: I spoke with the head chef outside, and he is from another branch (possibly Henrico?) to whip this location back into shape. Two words: "Nailed it."

As anyone can see by my other reviews, I give a lot of 4 and 5-star ones, and am generally not a complainer. When I rate something low, there's really a reason. There was nothing for me to like about this place. First, there was no signage to speak of. It wasn't real easy to find. I didn't even know I had found the right place until I saw the name of the place on the bags of coffee. When I came in, it was a cold feeling, not a friendly one. Every person I dealt with behind the counter wasn't warm or inviting. I got the feeling that they felt I "should have known" where to order, and "should have known" where to wait, or to pick up my coffee. I got a takeout hot coffee but had to interrupt and kindly ask for a lid. And when I did I got a vibe like I was an irritation or something. I went out to the car with my coffee and told my husband I hoped it was really outstanding coffee with what I had to go through to get it. And you know what, it wasn't all that great. It's not worth going back for. I don't get why people like or recommend this place.
