First off, I stopped in here on a whim and have never been here before I initially really just wanted some quick cookies and a cappuccino which they do not have cappuccinos, but they have hot coffee and tea. The amount of quality bread that they had was so incredible that I ended up buying a high round plane and pumpernickel. let me tell you the bread and desserts. Here are absolutely delicious. I picked up a Philly Fluff from Natales yesterday and I realized that I never posted a review for this amazing bakery. If you never had a Philly Fluff, please get in your car and drive to Summit now. Natale's is a great bakery right off Broad street, just a couple of minutes from downtown Summit. With ample parking on the street or around the block, the only thing stopping you from a sugar-filled paradise is the lines that can crop up during busy periods. The staff inside is great, and with signs stressing that tipping is not permitted, you don't need to feel the pressure of doing extra mental math while stuffing pastries into your cheeks. Inside, there are several cases with pastries, cookies, and cakes. They've also got a good selection of donuts and breads, though I didn't try any of those. The pastries, cookies, and cake were all fantastic. Pastry wise, I got a raspberry horn and elephant ear, both of which had a great sugary crust but with a fluffy, delicate center. The raspberry in the horn was fruity but not oversweetened. On the cookie front, I had chocolate chip, m&m, sugar cookie, linzer tart, and rainbow sprinkle, . My favorite of these was the linzer tart, though it wasn't my favorite linzer tart ever. I prefer a bit less filling in mine, with a crisper shortbread. These have a healthy amount of filling, and the shortbread cookie was a bit on the softer side, though still delicious! The other cookies were pretty standard fare, done well and with no complaints, but by design aren't exactly the reason you'd visit Natale's. A note on the chocolate chip and m&m that they're large and thin, with about a 5 inch diameter - not the thick/raw dough types that have become popular. Last we have the cake, which was for a birthday celebration. We got a yellow cake with fudge, which was pre-made in the case but customized quickly in the back. They did a great job, and it was filled with flavor! The layers were perfect as well. I'm definitely coming back here, and if I have I a say in it, that'll be sooner than later! read more

Amazing bakery that's been a Summit landmark for a long time. I revisited today and it was still the same! They have amazing cakes and pastries and cookies. The prices are still reasonable which is surprising given inflation and the area. I got a birthday cake for my mom - chocolate topped and fudge on the inside, a philly fluff cake, 2 cannolis and a large chocolate pastry all for $75. I had a few additional treats from this place. I was able to try their famous Philly Fluff cake and the checkerboard square cake. The Philly Fluff was a pound cake made with cream cheese. This was very solid. It was very light, and the cream cheese was incorporated so well that it was not even tasted. I enjoyed this more than I thought. The checkerboard square cake was a chocolate and vanilla cake filled with and iced in chocolate fudge. Again, this was light and flavorful. The fudge was the key here as it was sweet, but not too over powerful. The cake portion was tasty too. read more

Haven't been here in awhile. Was in the area and stopped in. The glazed cruller donuts are delicious and reasonably priced, $1.50. However, the Boston cream have been disappointing time and time again, very little filling. I got the pumpkin bars $2.50 each - good but expensive. Ordered a cake for a recent birthday party and had a disappointing experience. The manager took my order over the phone - we talked for 20 minutes as I provided details on what I was looking for, asked questions about cake sizes and prices, and more. Ultimately, we used Natale's instagram account for inspiration and I placed an order for a heart-shaped cake. On day of pickup, the cake was very pretty but it was round, not heart-shaped (quick note - although Natale's has a "no order via email" policy for some reason, I would absolutely ask for a copy of your order to be sent to you in writing - or a picture of the handwritten order slip - to hopefully avoid issues like this in the future). The manager provided decent customer service and gave me a partial credit/refund due to the error. The unfortunate part is, the employee who was working the counter was so incredibly rude and combative to my sister (who picked up the cake for me) that Natale's has now lost a longstanding family of customers. As soon as my sister said "I think it's supposed to be a heart" to the employee at the counter, she got incredibly defensive. She repeated, "I think this is supposed to be a heart" and the employee said "No, that's not what it says" - "it" being the order ticket. She kept repeating this as if my sister could not read and as if it was concrete proof that we were mistaken, when the order was indeed wrong. The employee and my sister went back and forth, and eventually when I asked to speak to the employee directly over the phone (rather than speaking through my sister), she flat out refused. No attempt to solve the issue. She said, "No, there's nothing to discuss." My sister then told her that I would call the store directly to speak to someone to rectify the issue, and the employee said, "Well, no one's gonna answer it!" Her behavior was immature, frustrating, and appalling. We found this bakery a couple years ago and my family and I have enjoyed their products many times. We've never had an issue, but after this experience, we will not be returning and will not be recommending to friends/family. I still find it baffling that my sister was treated that way. There were no attempts to problem-solve, take accountability, or just communicate by this employee. If you can't take accountability or offer solutions, and instead decide to blame the customer and catch an attitude, you should not be interacting with customers. I hope this shows the importance of staff of all levels being able to handle customer service issues properly with respect and grace - the manager was able to do this but definitely not the employee at the counter. We sadly will not be returning thanks to this employee and we do not recommend. read more

One of my favorite bakeries in NJ. The one item that they are most well known for is the Philly Fluff, and it is completely worth the hype! It is soft, moist and fluffy, like a little piece of heaven on your plate. Pro tip: Philly fluffs freeze extremely well, just slice them, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and put them in a freezer ziplock bag. When you are want to eat them, just let them thaw overnight on the fridge or on the counter for a few hours. They are perfect for when you have unexpected guests or when you are just in the mood for cake on a Wednesday night (not that I am speaking from experience or anything)! Aside from the Philly fluff, their other cakes and pastries are also very delicious, moreover, they are very well priced. My personal favorites are the strawberry shortcake and the cannolis. Family and I have been going here since the 1970's. Came back for the first time in 5 years! Love that they always have a wide variety of authentic Italian and American pastries. The customer service is always efficient. My favorite orders are the fresh, sliced bread, their cupcakes and cannolis, their cookies in a box, their cheese danish and their cakes. Would love to try their lobster tails next. Only thing I don't love is that it was super cramped for Thanksgiving orders and their parking always sucks. Also the website is kind of outdated but they're responsive on Instagram. It is my recommendation to go if you happen to love pastries and are in the NJ area! read more

We were in the area for other things, but figured why not stop in; it's on our list and a sweet treat would end the errands and endeavors for the day. We got a choco chip cookie, Linzer tart and raspberry twist. CC cookie got the thimbs up from the kiddo, the linzer was sofy and not crumbly (which I have experienced far too many times) with nice sweet jam, and the twist was crispy/chewy and dense, the jam tasty but soaked into the pastry, and the outside was crusted in sugar, and so it overpowered any crisp buttery texture and flavor. I often stop here after a trip to the Summit farmers market on Sundays. The place is a madhouse on the weekend, but the young servers are friendly, helpful, and patient. I've only tried a fraction of the offerings here, and most are very good. The rye breads are small, but have great taste and texture. If you like white bread, the pullman sandwich loaves are excellent. The croissants are good, only $2 each. Their cakes are probably their strongest offerings. Everyone likes the Philly Fluff, which is basically a sponge cake made with cream cheese. I did not care for the jelly doughnuts. The cinnamon and sugar coating is overpowering, the dough is a little rubbery, and not enough filling. The danish pastries are just OK. The walnut coffee cake rings are better than the cinnamon flavor, but the jelly doughnuts and the coffee rings at the Swiss Pastry Shoppe in Scotch Plains are much better. The sfogliatelle here were also disappointing. The ricotta filling had a funny taste. I like the sfogliatelle at Carmen's Italian Bakery in Union. I still like to coming to Natale's, and am always interesting in trying something new here. read more

I absolutely love Natale's. I buy a lot from here for our special occasions and also to take to peoples houses however every once in a while I will get a rude and hasty response over the phone stating "how busy they are" - it does leave a bad taste in one's mouth. I'm not sure if it's the employee there or the owner but it's pretty rude and abrupt. Once I asked if they had vegan options as I wanted to take some cupcakes for someone and they said if I wanted vegan goods I should go else where...I mean common? Every bakery is so inclusive now and it's okay if you don't wish to accommodate anyone whose vegan but one can be polite and say "we don't carry vegan goods" no need to be so condescending other times I've heard over the phone "oh we are just so busy and we can't take orders right now etc etc" - sucks that you spend your hard earned money, also rave about the products to friends and family only to get an attitude every now and again. Not cool. I've sent so many family and friends over to Natale's but the attitude of one lady over the phone is quite nasty and it has happened a couple of times now. Everyone is busy, everyone is trying to make a living, it's not what you say it's how you say it. I've also given very good reviews to Natale's bakery on Yelp in the past but speaking to your customers politely no matter what should be your priority. There are other bakeries out there who not only make great products, but they're so kind, and compassionate even when it's rush hour and if you ask them a question or 2 they respond very nicely and most importantly politely. Some people make you feel special, others make you feel like it's just business. Taking away 1 star for that reason. I rarely give any negative reviews for any business ever (you can check all my reviews on Google and Yelp and you will see), but I felt like I needed to address this.....I have even gushed about Natale's on several social media platforms/groups because I thought they deserved a mention but slightly disappointed by the customer service they exercise every now and again...people have bad days and I'm all about giving chances but maybe analyze how you are speaking to your customers. I've never been rude, never spoken back, always waited for my turn, and have been polite throughout even when I got this attitude which has been a few times now. I also know someone else who felt the same which is why I wanted to write a review about it. As far as quality goes it's pretty top notch. read more

All products are beyond delicious. Strawberry shortcake very delicate. Especially noteworthy are the brownies. Service is top notch.

The crumb bun and sfogliatelle were pretty good - not the best I've had but still yummy. The yule log was not good. The cake is supposed to be sponge but this one was dense and dry. Really disappointed :( But at least it looks pretty! Overall, will probably go back to try some more pastries but not for cake. read more
